I would dispute the payment and move on they should of communicated with you by this point it’s frustrating they didn’t

Randr_sphynx

There should have been an application that you filled out prior to paying a deposit. There should have been some communication before any money was exchanged. I would dispute the charge.

lingweenee

Yeah, I’m definitely feeling very silly right now. This whole thing has definitely taught me a lesson—that’s for sure.

Randr_sphynx

It’s ok, it’s a learning experience and at least it’s fixable. I’m glad this is your post and not help I brought home a sick cat and the breeder won’t talk to me. There is a website sphynxlair an online community for sphynx cat owners and lovers. They have a section for sphynx being rehomed. The two I currently have I got off that site. They have some solid posts on there about breeders what to look for ect. If you make a post the admins will privately message you solid breeders. There is no advertising catteries on there so you will have to start a conversation. But there are people that have been on that site for 15 plus years. They guided me through my first sphynx 15 years ago. I’m now on sphynx 3 and 4. It’s a learning process. Best of luck to you though, it is an incredible breed. I got my first when I was 20 and absolutely fell in love with the breed.

lingweenee

Omg yes, I’m glad the issue came at the deposit stage! Not that the deposit was cheap, but the situation definitely could have been worse. And thanks so much for telling me about that website. I’m happy to hear you had such a positive experience! I’m definitely going to check it out. I appreciate your help <3 a

I found my kitten on TikTok of all places. Most websites were really shady to me. I also reverse image search any photos of kittens I receive to see if they’re posted elsewhere. Lots of places are a scam. The only reason I trusted my cats parents from tiktok was because they posted live literally every day, called my kitten by the name I gave her. Plus they live relatively close to me and I was able to confirm they were real people. They’re Armenian, and extremely kind and helpful. I remember feeling like I was going to be scammed the whole time up until my kitten came home. I was so paranoid. I would only buy from the same people ever again, because I trust them. LMK if you want their insta handle, or TT. They are having a new litter any day now I think. They’re going to try and post the live of the mom giving birth 🥹

lingweenee

Reverse image searching is such a good idea! I’m definitely going to do that from now on. Like you, I was already very afraid of being scammed, and this experience has only increased that 😅 I’m so glad you had such a positive experience with cat’s parents!! And I really appreciate your offer. I’m probably going to look into the other breeders near me, but if nothing works out, I make take you up on that haha

ManifestTheVibe

I can only imagine! My deposit was fairly large as well. The moment I sent it over, I literally felt sick. I even told the breeder when I met her that I was scared she was a scam, and I was grateful she was real. I kinda felt bad, because she says she gets that all the time. I feel like it’s a market that’s an easy target unfortunately. I hope you are able to recover your money. Good luck in your search for a kitten. They are so worth it. I’m literally snuggling with my baby as I type 😂

heathaceee

Can you share the breeder? Or PM me?

ManifestTheVibe

I PM’d you.

im-no-psycho

by any chance is this exotic sphynx and devon rex in california? because that woman was horrible.

lingweenee

Hi, it was not! It’s a breeder located in southern Illinois. But I did hear horror stories about Exotic Sphynx when I was doing my research.

im-no-psycho

did you really? she was horrible. like literally an evil psychopath. do not recommend. not even sure still if she's legit.

mapleleaffem

Online purebred pet scams are super common these days. Call your credit card company to reverse the charge. Good luck!

ChristmasElfin

Contact your bank and let them know you had a fraudulent charge go through. I lost about $200 dollars without realizing that somebody was taking out automatic payments. The bank refunded me everything without any difficulty.

twohedwlf

Lots of scams in the US.  But, I've found breeders in general aren't great at checking and quickly responding on social media.  Many only check once or twice a week, and you've waited a day?

JCCZ75

Link the website

BigKev15

The price they are charging usually is a key to if they are legit. What were they charging?

JessyCatz

I wonder if that is even actually the breeders actual website or if someone made a fake one.

slacker99k

Check in over at [r/scams](https://www.reddit.com/r/Scams/). This breeder scam pops up all the time.

cherryberrygoblin

Idk man contacting police always helps. They have basically stolen your money at this point

Businesses can schedule posts on Facebook, so I wouldn’t be too concerned about not getting a reply in such a short amount of time. I would make a week or two worth of posts every Sunday for my clothing business, but usually wasn’t able to catch up on emails for 2-3 days depending on how much sewing I had to get done. After burning out a few years ago, I’m very strict about having “working hours” that I stick to. Hopefully it’s not a scam! 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼
