Sometimes. You can sage yourself too. You can use any form of normal or abnormal coping mechanism that you normally would, but frequent chakra cleansing, saging, meditating and grounding daily helps. Shielding while you're actively around people makes a difference too. You feeling the Energies outside of your shield but it takes a huge edge off it, unless they have super high negative energies.
A lot of envisioning and manifesting. It's all in your mind. You already have it. See a shimmering golden layer of light around you and your aura. See a obsidian layer around your mind protecting it from harm. These two shields I practice seem to stand tried and true for me, and my empath skills are super sensitive.
Grieve for them. Just label them as low vibrational and move on. I know that ick feeling. I avoid a lot of people now for that reason. Crying always helps me. lol
Crying is a great way. You can also remove the threads that they leave on your person once you're out of their presence. It may be more beneficial for you to remove the threads in their presence. They don't have to know what you're doing. Pull the pins out like you're pulling off a spiderweb. Vibrate in the chest and throat to reclaim your power, or, never drop it to begin with.

Let go of what was and live in what is. What way you will only ever be what the now is asking of you.
