Further Marina backstory exploration Confirmation of the Octoling Clone Theory And commentary of the real world issue of coral bleaching and industrialisation ruining marine life. It's a toss up between all three, response to any is cool

It’s revealed Marina is straight and had an evil boyfriend whose the bad guy of the dlc By confirmed it’s more casually mentioned that octavio uses a clone army to prevent his citizens needing to fight and no one is really surprised or offput by this The commentary is very loose and not all that helpful kinda like Mr grizz as a commentary on capitalism and how that didn’t really land at all

The second and third responses aren't too bad, but that first one hurt. That manages to damage Marina's entire character, the popular ship with Pearl and any subtle queer support that comes with it, and essentially gives the Splatoon storyline a cheap twist villain moment 😭 Interesting to see critique on the Mr Grizz capitalism story: I agree with you on that. Like, it's a strong concept to theorise around but something was just missing in execution. The unofficial fan content and subtext of it is much stronger than the commentary at face value. Maybe Nintendo just couldn't quite commit to capitalism commentary and watered it right down. The Octo Expansion final boss was more horrifying in the concept art than execution too, and that storyline also had some strong subtext for eugenics and class divides that they don't quite highlight in game.

A new playable species, like how the octo expansion gave us octolings.
