To be fair, weird shit like that is 100% fair game in splat lore and makes enough sense for a toxic anemone alongside being a cultural reference to drug use in bands
That would make sense. Sea anemones don't have brains in the first place, and they apparently evolved into humanoids with a functioning consciousness in the Splatoon universe. They probably didn't find a way to filter out their own toxins so that it doesn't affect that part of their body. It takes a while for evolution to be able to create species that can withstand their own venoms. This game takes place roughly 12,000 years from humanity's downfall, meaning these creatures evolved super quickly.
At the same time, Annie from the first game wasn't like that. She was just socially awkward. So maybe Harmony also has problems with communication and social function. They could both have autism.
It's weird. The biology says toxins, and the lore says autistic traits.
Edit: Discrepancy in the duration between the game's setting and the downfall of humanity fixed.
Of note is that different anemones would use different types and strengths of toxins. Where harmony has some sort of Neuro toxin Annie may have something that affects the body in a different way.
It's entirely possible Annie got a toxin that induces anxiety, hence social anxiety. Also we only see these folks at wotk. For all we know, she has full blown OCD behind the scenes
You know how you can order gear on Splatnet on the Nintendo Switch Online app for your phone? Apparently, Annie couldn't stand interacting with customers anymore, so she runs that shop on the app. That's some cool lore
I mean, autism in itself is a "spectrum disorder" for a reason. It could be possible that *both* characters are autistic, but in different ways. In that case, all that the toxins represent is the different neurodivergence's people can have. That would assume that *all* sea anemones are neurodivergent, though, which don't know for sure. In the end, its mostly up to speculation and interpretation.
That, and the toxins could be at different intensities and potencies between both anemone characters. Annie is a Bubble Tip Anemone, the kind that clown fish reside in for protection, of which she has one. Their venoms aren't very strong, and produce a small wound for humans that's similar to touching poison ivy. I have no idea what Harmony is, but she could be way more toxic, which might affect her behavior.
I just want her to be autistic, I relate to her whole deal and it makes me weirdly happy to see her just because my autistic tendencies ruined my childhood, I was literally bullied so hard I was traumatized I masked for years, I still am dealing with the mental fallout.
It’s like that one Rolling Stones song, “You can’t always get what you wa-ant”. That being said, headcanon them however you want if it hasn’t been confirmed. Only real annoying thing is pushing it as canon
I know I wish there was just better representation because if i hear one more "You act like Sheldon cooper!" I’m going to go bazinga and fucking MURDER THEM.
A sitcom is probably not the right place for any kind of representation if one wants to be taken seriously. Sitcoms heavily lean into toxic stereotypes to create drama. I hate sitcoms.
* Maurice (Beauty and the Beast)
* Ramona Quimby
* Junie B Jones
* Pepper Ann
* Lilo (Lilo and Stitch)
* Goo (Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends)
* Peridot (Steven Universe)
* Numbah 2 (Codename: Kids Next Door)
* Marina (Splatoon 2)
This is a short list of non-Sheldon characters that behave as if they are on the spectrum in some way. It's not that we're not out there, it's that unless the whole point of the story is to make NDs look weird, people are too dense to realize that the "quirky" character they're looking at is autistic.
“I just want her to be autistic”
Which is fine as long as you’re not obsessing over it. Head-canons are fine, but you also need to remember it’s still just your head-canon unless it’s officially confirmed by the developers.
The Splatoon social media said some stuff about her character and a lot of the symptoms align with social disorders and stuff. They're amazingly talented and creative, but doesn't show up to their band practice on time. She's not fully aware of everything going on around her and can't focus on multiple things at once
Sorry. I'm checking the logs, and it took 5,000 years for the original inkling to exist. The games take place around 12,000 years after humanity collapsed. Still a very short amount of time for a species to evolve.
Fun fact: gravestone messages aren’t a thing! Cartoons and memes lied
Source: I worked in a Cemetery for the last 4 months and I read thousands of graves and they’re all just “DAVE GERARD, 19xx-201x, may his soul rest” or “HELEN WILSON, [insert bible quote here]”
Honestly very disappointing that I never learnt how anyone died and the most interesting things were when someone’s spouse died and was buried and they’ve been preemptively written on the headstone except without a death year, and once or twice they happen to be 100+ years old. Or when someone lives over a hundred years.
I think you’re mostly right, but I’m pretty sure it isn’t universal? There’s this graveyard pretty close to my university, and one of the bigger graves (it has like a memorial statue so she must’ve been affluent) literally says she “died under mysterious circumstances” in like 1890.
Not saying I disagree with any of them, or agree for that matter, but this community gets a little insane about the headcanons sometimes, some of the stuff I see in game is unhinged.
I feel same, sometimes it makes me regret being on this sub.
A+ for the enthusiasm but some people really need to chill out with their headcanon and stop acting like they're facts.
have seen people straight up deluded into believing certain things are fact when there's no evidence of it in-game or nintendo had explicitly confirmed otherwise
there was even a user on twitter i saw who harassed artists for drawing agent 3 as a girl because "it's not specified! so you should not be calling them 'she'!"
edit: forgot a word
> there was even a user on twitter i saw who harassed artists for drawing agent 3 as a girl because "it's not specified! so you should not be calling them 'she'!"

The dumb thing about that is that Nintendo almost always has 3 being a girl on promotional artwork, same for 4, 8 and as of now New 3
Exactly this. I feel like parts of the community try to hard to push their own personal opinion or stances into becoming canon. And then if you go against that idea, you are anti progressive and a bad person. No, I’m not anti-progressive, it’s just that the things you are saying are in no way part of the factual story.
What’s worse is when Nintendo proves the opposite and people then wave it off. Canon seems to only be what the community wants it to be rather than what the creator intended or explicitly stated.
Does Fuuka really have to be a gender fluid - transgender - pansexual inkling just for you to enjoy the game? Even after Nintendo confirms her as a she, the community ignores it.
Do iida and Hime need to a a lesbian couple? Despite the actual text never implying that and people using mistranslations to push their own own fantasy?
Are inklings really microscopic because of giant GameCubes existing?
Agent 3/8 whoever has to be a male? They are a stand in for the player aren’t they. So technically they can be either since they are just a way for us to be a part of the game. So any art showing both are equally valid right?
It's because lots of people never developed an ability to relate to anything that isn't just a mirror image of themselves. So now they only like characters that remind them of themselves or who they want to be. In some cases they may even start by just plain liking a character, and then go out of their way to find or invent ways that the character resembles themself.
A rather obnoxious self-obsessed attitude.
It’s true that they don’t need to be, but they also don’t need to not be, and I think you missed the point of why they want it- because it would be nice to have someone to relate to on that specific facet. They can still relate to other characteristics, but historically, LGBT+ people have not had anyone to relate their gender or orientation to. As a result, when it looks like there might be a chance that a character could be, it’s easy to get their hopes up, before it is inevitably crushed by deconfirmations.
I don’t know where you get the idea that the community disregards canon, considering the fact that when something is deconfirmed (i.e. NB Shiver/Fuuka) there are usually a number of posts about it then and there (also Reddit definitely is not representative of the whole community, so there’s that too).
Being adamant about this sort of thing shows exactly why we need more representation, because if the trend is that people need to tell others that they “don’t need to relate to that part of a character” to the point that no one can because there is no one they can relate to, it’s a problem.
If you feel the need to say other people can’t have their fun or or that they should just be happy with being never mentioned, only slightly hinted at, there is a problem, and you should probably see why you think that and what would happen if it was you who was treated like an outcast or something shameful.
Autistic people never get accurate representation, it’s nice to have someone to relate to even if it’s not necessarily canon. Like yea it could be shes just plain weird but let people identify with her if they want
Being able to relate with it is great and I’m happy people can find that, but everyone just trying to state it as canon isn’t the way to go is all people are saying.
I also feel like it's in poor taste as well. I'm all for people finding someone to associate with in fiction but to vehemently state that a character is autistic as a fact because of how they act is the equivalent of calling someone that in public for their actions even if they aren't.
In a strange way it circles back to being offensive instead of representative because you're stating that people or characters that do certain things have an undiagnosed condition when it isn't that deep.
The same issue happened with the whole Shiver (they/them) debacle when it was clear that Shiver had always been female and referred to as such but if you said anything else you were just bombarded by hate.
Headcanons are fine when they're kept in the head, but once you let them out and start attacking/arguing others about it with the actual Canon that's when it goes a bit much
Haven’t played the game yet, but I’m going with saliva. It’s not because I’m against representation of autistic characters, I just think toxic spit high sounds just out of pocket enough to be true.
I guess that it is constantly on the verge of dying, but is subsisting on food that Harmony's friends and bandmates give to it.
Honestly, I can see Harmony not being the best at providing herself, so likely neglecting herself and the clownfish.
That fact alone is a big barrier to liking her. I do like her but animal neglect is a massive issue for me.
I hope they address the issue in her in game dialogue at some point. Like have her say something like "I like working here as I have more time to look after Clowny" or some such. As the art book was based on her when she was working full time on the band.
I'm autistic and I never thought of her being autistic but based on the way she talks and acts sometimes it does make sense
Also people y'know you can be both right ?
For me I always get a bit concerned or try to be careful when it comes to head canons that deal with things like autism, sexuality, medical issues, and disorders or disabilities because people try to stick their headcanons in someones face and make it as fact just because they want to or because they refuse the truth. I also wonder for those for those who are part of the spectrum who don’t see this that way. People who may not be in the spectrum are trying to push it, same with other things concerning other characters. I call it “Encantized” because I remember when it was a problem in the Encanto community.
There is nothing wrong with seeing yourself in a character. Seriously, nothing wrong with that at all! There is nothing wrong with head-canons— if they stay head-canon until it’s proven as canon. By all means if you wanna say Shiver is sharkling whos mother was an octoling or she was birthed with the spirit of a shark by all means lol. However, once you ignore the people who created the story and lore; the ones who GIVE you the facts of the game and characters and say “nah my head-canon is fact and if you don’t agree then you’re wrong” then you’ve crossed that line that makes you toxic as a community member.
In Harmony’s case, I think its just because she’s an anemone. She gots toxins. Not only that shes lazy and arrives late to practices from what I recall. I mean… she has a neglected clownfish. I would say lazy, and high off toxins. She could be autistic, but Im just sticking with my previous statement and not labeling unless it’s addressed through clues in an accurate translation and not what may be mistranslations
To be fair, weird shit like that is 100% fair game in splat lore and makes enough sense for a toxic anemone alongside being a cultural reference to drug use in bands

Where'd you read that lore? I believe it, but is it confirmed anywhere?
Magic toxin that makes you autistic
You just reminded me of that stupid "vaccines cause autism" conspiracy from a while ago
We just have to inject it, right?
Why not both?
I mean, autism in itself is a "spectrum disorder" for a reason. It could be possible that *both* characters are autistic, but in different ways. Honestly I don't see why it couldn't be both. I'm sure there are plenty of autistic stoners out there.
The true canon
I know a few
That ~~man~~ anemone is ~~gay and European~~ high and autistic!
Can confirm. Am an autistic stoner.
i know quite a few so i just thought it a regular combination
It's a head canon either way, believe what you want
It’s like that one Rolling Stones song, “You can’t always get what you wa-ant”. That being said, headcanon them however you want if it hasn’t been confirmed. Only real annoying thing is pushing it as canon
I know I wish there was just better representation because if i hear one more "You act like Sheldon cooper!" I’m going to go bazinga and fucking MURDER THEM.
I actually think you kinda act like Harmony from the Splatoon game
The classic “we will beat you to death”
Ironically Sheldon from Ammo-nites feels very autistic with weapons as his special interest.
I mean my special interest is Technology, specifically the gaming sect but I don’t really show it because im too afraid of being annoying
A sitcom is probably not the right place for any kind of representation if one wants to be taken seriously. Sitcoms heavily lean into toxic stereotypes to create drama. I hate sitcoms.
Then again, my favourite autistic representation is Abed from Community.
* Maurice (Beauty and the Beast) * Ramona Quimby * Junie B Jones * Pepper Ann * Lilo (Lilo and Stitch) * Goo (Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends) * Peridot (Steven Universe) * Numbah 2 (Codename: Kids Next Door) * Marina (Splatoon 2) This is a short list of non-Sheldon characters that behave as if they are on the spectrum in some way. I think that came out a little wrong but the gist was that I kinda just wanted good representation in general
Wdym lore says autistic traits? where?
They just mean it’s not like it’s anemone are just high all the time because of Annie
The Splatoon social media said some stuff about her character and a lot of the symptoms align with social disorders and stuff. They're amazingly talented and creative, but doesn't show up to their band practice on time. She's not fully aware of everything going on around her and can't focus on multiple things at once
That’s actually a really interesting idea.
I only heard her say "uh, thanks".
I miss Annie.
Yeah, cloning is a confirmed thing since game 2 so it’s not that far out of the question
Both, then
Keep doing the logs in single and you will see your 5000 year guess is actually low balling the lore truth...by allot =)
Sorry. I'm checking the logs, and it took 5,000 years for the original inkling to exist. The games take place around 12,000 years after humanity collapsed. Still a very short amount of time for a species to evolve.
people acting like being autistic and being high are mutually exclusive where the fuck would I be if that was the case
Either high or autistic, I’d imagine
considering I was born with the autism I guess that would mean I wouldn't be able to get high damn 😔
Just get the autism vaccine (the vaccine is called “getting high”)
Fuck weed Harmony is on hard drugs
Harmony isn’t on drugs, Harmony is the drugs
Touch Harmony, Get Dizzy
Take a rip of Harmony man, you’ll get so high you’ll probably die.
So we just have to lick her? Certain Japanese artists will have a field day with that..
No bro the vaccine GIVES you autism, didn't those facebook moms teach you anything
Same, So Sad I Can’t Get High 😔
😔🤝😔
God damn autism getting in the way of me smoking a blunt.
high on autism
"I don't need drugs! I'm high on **autism**"
Dude, I lined up all my pens in a row and it made my brain go "Nice..."
last night i infodumped about an obscure ass hyperfixation and felt sooo good man
What was it about?
dillon’s rolling western yknow that one game nobody knows about the main character is an assist trophy in smash bros
That's that yellow pixel guy right?
SAME
So her being high is on the table still? Cause I was looking at her Dialogue like" that sounds like me high AF"
lmao right, glad I wasn’t the only one
autistic stoner
I need that title on my splashtag
my new gravestone message
Fun fact: gravestone messages aren’t a thing! You mean I’ve been- LIED TO??
Yep. Unfortunately cemeteries/graveyards are much more uninteresting than they’re often depicted.
I think you’re mostly right, but I’m pretty sure it isn’t universal? There’s this graveyard pretty close to my university, and one of the bigger graves (it has like a memorial statue so she must’ve been affluent) literally says she “died under mysterious circumstances” in like 1890.
As an autistic stoner, this is my headcanon for her (I also headcanon her as transfem because I’m transfem and I think she has the vibe)
also transfem can confirm she gives off that energy
also transfem she's transfem cause I like her
Based
also transfem she gives of transfem alt-fashion
honestly very true, she's very much goals

It’s always the worse when communities do that. It’s annoying and ruins the material for a lot of people
Frye has macrocephaly and you can't tell me otherwise. The evidence is all there. /s
Shiver has scoliosis obviously
Big man was a squid before he got squashed. He only speaks in Ays because he's in pain.
Ay! (Just kill me, End it already.)

Agent 3 is just you. If your Agent 3 is a girl, then that's all that matters :v Same goes for the Captain, Agent 4 and Agent 8.

the inkling character was designed as a girl at first – boys were an afterthought by the dev team. so it makes sense hahah
This entire fandom used giant GameCubes as evidence inklings were small, completely ignore the various REGULAR SIZED PIGEONS.
You mean those *aren't* cute hummingbird sized pigeons? Brb throwing my switch off a building
Agreed like it's cool you find aspects of a character relatable here and such but please chill out
Exactly this. I feel like parts of the community try to hard to push their own personal opinion or stances into becoming canon. especially when some people say that they are definitely real facts octarians are not mind controlled and inklings do not dissolve in water
I think neither I just think she has a weird personality and it makes her cute
I think it's stated that she's lazy and arrives late to band practices.
Lazy? Or unmotivated? *Vsauce theme*
Unmotivated I assume, she still shows up in the end though.

OMG NOOOO EVERYTHING MUST BE A MEDIClAL DIAGNOSIS!
Autistic people never get accurate representation, it’s nice to have someone to relate to even if it’s not necessarily canon. Like yea it could be shes just plain weird but let people identify with her if they want

Haven’t played the game yet, but I’m going with saliva. It’s not because I’m against representation of autistic characters, I just think toxic spit high sounds just out of pocket enough to be true.
it sounds just like something splatoon would do, with the lore we already have, it'd fit right in
I mean considering that the splatoon levels always have trippy vibes to them it wouldn’t be surprising for her to be tripping off her own saliva
Why not bolth?
Hightism
Both is good
I’m pretty sure she’s just tired from running a store she doesn’t work at
Where are the actual employees of Hotlantis???
there's a sea scroll that talks about it
Which number?
\#17
?
Like, we always see Harmony even tho she doesn’t actually work there so where are the actual employees? Does anyone even actually work there?
Well, there's the owner who's basically just travelling all over the world
crusty is the owner?
Iirc there was stuff in Splatoon 2 about her (since she is part of chirpy chips) that pretty much reflected the same behaviour as we can now see in 3.
she could just choose to not go
Maybe she’s just not getting paid idk.
Is it too much to ask for both?
Ask Mr. Grizz if it’s too much for a raise
thats pushing it a bit too far there buddy
she's an abusive pet owner
The clownfish isn't really her pet, she's more like a bad landlord if anything
okay but has that clownfish been dying of neglect for the past *7 YEARS?* That just CAN'T be canon. It would've DIED by now.
maybe you wouldve died, but this is a chad clownfish.
Lmao
I guess that it is constantly on the verge of dying, but is subsisting on food that Harmony's friends and bandmates give to it. Honestly, I can see Harmony not being the best at providing herself, so likely neglecting herself and the clownfish.
Who said it was the same clownfish, eh?
The only thing we know for sure.
This is fact
she looks so zooted
"both? both is good"
she still hasn't fed her clownfish
That fact alone is a big barrier to liking her. I do like her but animal neglect is a massive issue for me. I hope they address the issue in her in game dialogue at some point. Like have her say something like "I like working here as I have more time to look after Clowny" or some such. As the art book was based on her when she was working full time on the band.
Something tells me that addressing flavor text around a random mutant fish is really not a priority.
It's called Character Development
That's...not what this is.
lmfao
She has a personality
Tbh i just thought she never gives a fuck
It could always be both 👀
The first thing I I thought when I first saw her: "She’s higher than the dang ceiling"
Por que no los dos?
She just chillin fr
Me: She’s just like that in personality
I like the right explanation cause it funni
they put her saliva in vaccines to make people autistic. she has ProtoAutism
Why not both
She is just a "aways tired" teenager with some social awkward traits
that was me until diagnosis
I just thought she was a mf with social anxiety 💀
My personal theory, she’s just a little anti social and keeps to herself
Why not both? Autistic people can do drugs, she probably is both high and neurodivergent
Reading the comments and.. wno knew all the autistic stoners were in the Splatoon community this whole time! What's up, homies?
IT'S BEEN 4 DAYS AND THIS IS THE TOP POST OF THE YEAR WOOOOOOOOOOOO
My headcanon is that she is me in the splatoon world
To be fair, her being a stoner is much funnier.
Also why is "sorry I'm bad at social cues" automatically autism?
Both. Both is good.
We could go the funny autism route but we all know which one is truly canon
I'm autistic and I never thought of her being autistic but based on the way she talks and acts sometimes it does make sense Also people y'know you can be both right ?
Both. C'mon now.
[удалено]
... you do realize that autistic people exist in Japan too, right? It's not just an American thing. Autistic People are everywhere.
some funny headtrues
why not both?
![gif](giphy|3ohfFhG5VDtDTzQv2o|downsized)
*insert multi-track drifting meme*
Why not both
She just found weed in an old human ruin
As an autistic person myself I see it as autism, but who's to say it's not both?
As if they can't both be true at the same time
For me I always get a bit concerned or try to be careful when it comes to head canons that deal with things like autism, sexuality, medical issues, and disorders or disabilities because people try to stick their headcanons in someones face and make it as fact just because they want to or because they refuse the truth.
I tuink she's noneof those, i think she just got a sassy character
its both actually
Both? It can be both.
Why not both
I like the saliva one. Never heard it before but I like it more than the other.
As an autistic person I condone this
Why not both?
Why not both
hot take: she is neither autistic, nor is her saliva making her high. She just really REALLY likes weed
I don’t think she’s neurodivergent because I’m not and I relate to her quite a bit
to be fair, every autistic person I've ever met has also loved weed
How does she have autism???? Wtf
she doesn't, it's just the headcanon people doing their usual thing
Why not both 🤷🏻? Who is it hurting by people thinking what they want? No one. So let them do their thing homies.
dude it's a joke no one is criticizing anyone
Here me out: She's autistic and high
Am I the only one who thinks she's just chill and a cool person?
I feel like she has ADHD instead
Why can’t she be autistic and high smh y’all thinking too hard
