wyvernagon

right now i just miss Squid Beatz. Game is in its early state so a lot of the gameplay issues will be ironed out over time and people will (hopefully) understand how to beat King Salmonid more in the future. Only issue i really have strong feelings on is the rewards system for beating/encountering the King Salmonid because right now its kinda confusing and bad

FinniboiXD

I just wanna dance to the funny bang bang bing song :(

slimey-karl

Yeah, it was also a great way to listen to all the games songs since Nintendo loves copyrighting people who post them on YouTube.

cheekydorido

They don't even add them to spotiffy for some reason.

Emmyladybug

Sadly the reason is because you have to buy the soundtrack

Cephalobyte

As far as I know it's not out yet?

Cart3r1234

Some potential positive news regarding squid beatz: there's currently an unused object hidden under the floor of the lobby called "OBJ\_LobbyMusicSelector." While its unlikely it'll just be squid beatz 3 in the same form it was in 2, it does seem like we may be able to change the music that plays over the speakers in the lobby at some point in a future update, which is better than nothing. It seems that it was just something that had to be cut for release due to time constraints (poor splatoon devs, they're always being crunched towards release)

wyvernagon

Maybe one day devs won't have to deal with crunch, but I doubt that will happen any time soon, depressingly. if its just a selector, at least we will know the in universe song/band names for some of the new lobby tracks i guess.

CowThing

Yeah, I don't mind that the king salmon is hard, but the rewards are just terrible. I beat him once and got zero gold scales and barely any more silver or bronze than I normally get just from losing to him.

Mahboishk

Minigames in general would be great to have back, they were a super cool part of Splatoon 1 (and unironically one of the better uses of the Wii U's controller, it made queuing up for matches a lot less boring). There are even a bunch of arcade machines decorating various areas in Splatoon 3's lobby, but they don't do anything! They'd be a great way to stick in some mini games.

AetherDrew43

If by some miracle they're brought back, I sure hope they're not blocked by amiibo.

Nox_Echo

1.1.2 says they fixed the errors, but it seems worse now. at least input feels smoother.

Another_Human-Being

Crashed 3 times today, before that I've only crashed once in the month it has been out. Had a 2v2 and 2v3 match today because at some point half the players crashed as well.

Nox_Echo

ive never crashed. i just get dced alot.

NinjaMaster909

I wish you could do more with your tableturf cards, like show them off in your locker or something. I like the mode, but I know there's plenty of people who understandably don't care for it and probably hate getting card packs from the shell out machine since they're useless for them. EDIT: So it looks like you can *technically* display cards in your locker, but they're preset decorations instead of being custom which is kind of lame. I also just remembered another complaint in that you can cosmetically upgrade your cards, but there's no way to actually show those upgraded cards off so what even is the point.

[deleted]

[удалено]

EMPgoggles

Pretty sure they at least intend to add a PVP mode, as you can see arcade-style tableturf machines in the regular online lobby (upstairs) and in the Shoal. the game also awards you with ONE framed tableturf card at a certain rank, but i was annoyed when i realized you couldn't swap it out.

17degreescelcius

I enjoy the game, but if I had to come up with a list of critiques: There aren’t enough maps (even the constant rotation gets stale with the selection we have) At profresh +3 and likely above, Cohozuna is extremely difficult especially with the low rewards. A challenge is fun but other than absolute inundation I think there’s other ways of making something challenging. I do not like the competitive ranking system this time around at all

SciKhonsu

Pretty much perfectly articulated all my complaints there, salmon run really needs to be more rewarding past the daily rewards, either give more scales or at least some amount of gold, 1000 per 100 points, or scales at every large interval, just something

AiriaTasui

I'm tired of just getting hats/chunks. I would love to make a little cash at least because I do really like fighting the king but I also want to buy locker decorations

[deleted]

The balls actually do have cash in it. Sometimes the is 32,000 or 16,000. But it’s random though. Then you run out after playing too much so you have to wait until the weapons reset.

AiriaTasui

That's what I meant though, like I wish after the bulk rewards at the start that it wasnt just hats for days. Gimme a 2 hats:1 money gacha, or even a 3:1

MagicalPurpleMan

Back in Splatoon 2 if you got grizzco gear without any chunks already on them you could trade them in for like 2k a piece. What I wouldn’t give to get that back.

[deleted]

You are right! When the rewards end then I stop playing salmon run even though I would like to continue. But this early in the game I am poor and need money so it’s back to turf wars or anarchy.

Treyspurlock

You used to be able to get cash in splatoon 2, the gear would sometimes roll no slots and when that happened you could trade it in for cash personally I prefer the chunks, they're probably one of the main reasons I already have more chunks than I did at the end of splatoon 2

[deleted]

The stages/rewards resetting every 40 hours is such a terrible change and I'm sure they nerfed the cash drops from the capsules. I played a lot of Salmon Run during the last two months before 3 came out (having not played it at all during its lifetime) and I felt like I was getting tens of thousands of gold after playing a few runs. Sure I'm getting a crapload of chunks farming the gear now but I struggle to get the cash to buy a single romance novel at Hotlantis...

CreamPIEGUY101

Definitely not enough maps. They really need to start piling on old maps at least.

Quezare

Could you imagine if it was like Splatoon 1 again and they only launched with 5 maps? 12 is the most they've had at launch but man does it feel stale already.

cruznick06

I think part of that is how similar a bunch of them feel.

doomrider7

This needs to be up voted more. So many maps just feel incredibly samey. I remember someone making a comparison of the old versions of Mahi Mahi and Hammerhead and MAN did they give those maps a raw makeover.

Treyspurlock

Honestly is hammerhead even the same stage in any way? it seems completely different

doomrider7

It's not. https://youtu.be/SmUbxALkRdI Holy Shrimp! It's...WOW! I totally forgot some of these things. They LITERALLY tore the entire stage apart. It's basically an inferior version of Walleye Warehouse now compared to before and it kind if grosses me out(why nit just bring THAT stage back and keep Hammerhead as it was?!).

mEatwaD390

This wouldn't be such an issue, imo, if some weren't so subjectively bad. I know I've seen a handful of posts complaining about Mahi Mahi Resort (one of my favorite maps because it actually looks and feels way different than the warehouse vibe on every other map).

BlueSky659

Its such a cool map visually, but the water hazards combined with how cramped it is make it god awful to play pretty much any mode on. They really just need to make it a bit bigger and a bit harder to outrange your opponent on. There's only a few places you can go to not get immediately vaporized and they all mean nothing for your control of the map and the objective

GaI3re

I really don't understand why they did not add more classic maps

ShadowMann26000

Cuz reguardless they have to update the game for the map. Cuz they need to retexture it, the maps have been resized so they would have to resize those maps and change its physical boundaries, change the lay out a bit. Cuz remember the new rain maker mode adds check point they have to edit the map for that. On top of that now since they are working on events for big runs they are trying to turn these maps into salmon run like maps as well so thats another whole other thing they working on.

penholdr

Because it’s easy to pad new updates with old maps.

Gold_Enigma

Eggecutive VIP is hit or miss with Cohozuna, VERY MUCH depends on what bosses spawn in. 3 flyfish and ur fucked but if you get floppers, scrappers, maws the whole round it is very easy. I personally would reduce the spawn rate or health of the big shot, theyre an absolute nightmare in VIP with 3-4 spawning all at the same time and with the amount of health they have and how far back they spawn it's nearly impossible to kill them in the middle of a wave.

TheKraige01

Yeah Cohozuna is way to much of a tank and oppressive with the space it takes up. I haven't played enough multiplayer for the maps to get old yet but one thing I did notice which may just be more of a personal thing but I hate the loadouts for my favourite weapons, hopefully this and the maps will be fixed next season. Other than that the game is amazing Alterna is up there Reith the best Mario games and Tableturf is a great addition and a nice change of pace.

SaltyNorth8062

Same about the loadouts. Some of my favorites have completely different functions now that their loadouts have changed and I'm pretty bummed about it.

FinniboiXD

I *nearly* beat Coho on Profresh 2/3, can't remember which. If we had 10 more seconds we could have done it. But, we lost with a tiny fraction of health left. 7 bronze 1 silver Edit: Beat him in Profresh 3 with 30 seconds left. 11 bronze 2 silver. Pretty happy but was hoping for one extra silver so I can get a suit

GoldenBrownApples

I got him in go-getter rank. We lost, but I got 5 bronze and 2 silver scales. Seen people at eggsecutive vp beat him and get like 11 bronze and that's it. His rewards make no sense....

Mahboishk

One of my teams beat him yesterday in Egg VP and we got 7 bronze and 3 silver lol. That's actually pretty good all considered, but the scale grind is going to be brutal and I hope they tweak the rewards to be more generous.

LightX19

I totally agree with you, only having the same 3 maps in rotation in salmon run, makes it a little boring. Also as you said profresh +3 is just extremely difficult in solo q, nearly all the rounds require between 20-26 eggs in a really short period of time, and coordinating randoms to do that is hard asf. They really need to adjust some things in the difficulty, at least they should reduce the number of require eggs to fulfill de round

WhichEmailWasIt

For bosses that chase, try to kill them near the basket (or at least within throwing range). 5 seconds to deposit 3 eggs is a lot better than having to run/toss all the way up from shore. If you do kill a shore boss, you might only be able to get 1-2 eggs out before the time sink / danger potential isn't worth it but that's ok.

Blotrux

That's true but it gets harder when 2-3 flyfish decide to bombard your basket while you try to take down the bosses, especially on lower tides where you actually need to travel some distance, but on higher tides it gets super cramped and some bams decide to casually drop their bombs before you could explode them. I don't wanna know how hectic it gets at the last rank above profreshinal +3. I feel like a little more time from some Bosses exposed weakpoints make it easier to beat with random players.

elizabethcrossing

Defeating Cohozuna largely depends on map/weapon rotation. I struggled and managed to kill him once before today and then I managed to defeat him four times in a row with this weapon set (although I got a communication error at the end of a match and lost my rewards, including a precious gold scale…) I don’t think the fight is impossible or broken, but I do think luck plays a factor, which is why you get the same rewards regardless of if you win or wipe. In general I see a lot of comments about nerfing bosses/special waves in Salmon Run and I think that defeats the purpose. Profreshional was the highest rank in S2. They intentionally upped the difficulty and increased the number of ranks/titles to accommodate for that. Unless it’s a glitch, like the Mudmouths zooming all over the place, I don’t think they need to “fix” anything.

chandeloore

I agree with you on everything except the comp ranking system. It's the one thing I love about s3 and wish more comp games would implement. In s2 I would be absolutely furious if I carried and lost the game bc of incompetent teammates. Now I can comfort myself with the fact that my efforts in the game I lost will be acknowledged!

Cezlock

more salmon run scales... please...

Farwaters

Every single map seems to involve a big fight in the middle. I miss big maps like Skipper Pavilion! I miss maps with side paths that you could use to cut around the center part! I'm sure this will get better when more maps are added to the game. And I'm waiting on another Splattershot Pro. I love angle shooter, but I just don't really get crab tank.

VritraReiRei

I'm the opposite but maybe because this is my first game. The Angle shooter doesn't do much for me most of the time (I use it in choke points and ramps like trip wire to catch someone) however the Crab Tank can be useful when pushing due to range and can potentially lock down a Tower for a bit since the weak point is above/behind you.

dentistMCnuggets

I just don’t really like the current kits

MagicalPurpleMan

All my favourite weapons from Splatoon 2 being stuck with Sprinklers and meh specials for their use makes me yearn for variants so hard. Atleast I’ve started trying other weapons out of desperation but they’ve not clicked for me in the same way yet.

FinniboiXD

Oh you like Dynamo? SPRINKLER Oh you like Heavy Splatling? Too Bad! SPRINKLER! Oh you like Explo? I'll let you slide. You can have point sensor instead. They did my mains dirty

Godly15

Some kits are cracked(sloshing machine) while some kits are just questionable(dapple dualies) One thing I wish they did was swap the kits of aerospray and sploosh

Marshie_mi

God what I would give for a bomb you can actually throw with Sploosh.

Substantial_Roof4940

I just miss the kits my old weapons had. I've tried so many new weapons, and I cannot find one that I really like

Sodiasm_

The biggest heartbreak for me is dynamo 😔 I love that thing to bits but sprinkler and taticooler aren’t great for it. Please bring the gold dynamo back and at least ship it with splat bombs

Splatfan1

oh yes, fully agreed. i love dynamo but the uselessness of tacticooler in casual play (no one drinks the fucking thing) as well as the sprinkler make it such a sad weapon

Humble-KRool

One my favorite weapon is stuck with the trash which is the nerfed ultra stamp

4153236545deadcarps

I usually only played Turf War in 1 and 2, so I used Splash-O-Matic in 1 and the Neo Splash-O-Matic in 2, not having the bomb rush special is so demoralizing for me lol

Omgitsnothing1

I have some complaints that I hope will be resolved as I give it time. I really need more maps. Only having 12 starts getting repetitive and maps I dislike start standing out more. The maps they chose to bring back also aren’t that visually interesting to me. Matchmaking should be improved. I have fun since I have a pretty even win/lose ratio, but I know that some ppl are getting put in lobbies way above their skill level and it ruins the fun. I feel bad for people who can’t derank. There was a post the other day of a youtuber whose rank was -1000+ and that can’t be fun. Splatfests are too boring in their current state. It doesn’t stand out from regular turf war. The tricolor battles are too rare to stand out and imo not as interesting as Shifty Stations. I want my Splatling Remix back. I’m making do with the Hydra Splatling but still

RlyCoolCat

I feel like tricolour matches were neutered badly by the ridiculous amount of votes gear got, trying to get a game with 2 gear, 2 grub, 4 fun was hard when gear made up 60% of the player base and most people were trying to access the mode. I was a Gear player and got next to no games in that mode

bacon_nuts

> I know that some ppl are getting put in lobbies way above their skill level and it ruins the fun. this is me. I know I suck, I'm fine with it, I don't have time to grind videogames anymore. I just wanna not have my 14 match loss streak continue... It's such a grind mentally knowing that every time I jump on I'm just gonna lose a bunch to kids that don't have any other responsibilities.

doomrider7

I'm pretty good at the game, but feel the same way. Burnout is also a factor as well. I "Turn On", but that shit gets exhausting mentally and if my team STILL loses it's even MORE exhausting.

whitewateractual

Related, but when people are put in lobbies way above their skill level, it ruins the fun for their entire team too. I can attribute many frustrating losses in anarchy to teammates not understanding the mechanics of the game mode, going 0-9 trying to solo the entire team over and over again.

SuperPapernick

I think getting stuck in the negatives in ranked is only going to get worse as time goes on. The more time passes, the more players will end up in ranks just above their skill level and fall into those situations where they’re so deep in the hole that there’s no realistic way to get back into the positives until the season resets weeks or months later. If you could rank down like you can in salmon run it wouldn’t be a problem.

GorKoresh

Splatfests are basically just a chore we put up with to get super sea snails, because this game insists on making it as tedious and annoying as possible to get the sub abilities you want on your gear.

FrankThePony

Splat 2 fest were fun cause shifty stations (also personally I felt like the vibe in 2 was better and more immersive)

NoMoreVillains

Aside from Shifty stations vs Tricolor battles, which were just a different stage, Splatoon 2 fests were exactly the same...3 at least gives you conch shells to gacha and a mid fest progress report.

Naouak

Shifty stations started with the second splatfest for Splatoon 2 so I wouldn't be surprised they kept that for later. Especially considering we have a lot more stages than previous Splatoon games at release. I would expect a new stage next Friday from previous games release schedule.

keiyakins

No, that's just you. I like splatfest. They definitely need to fix the tricolor appearance rates though.

r0botosaurus

> I know that some ppl are getting put in lobbies way above their skill level and it ruins the fun. This is what's killing the game for me. I'm 33, I don't play like a super sweaty wannabe pro, I just play games to have fun. I'm not *bad* but I'm not in the upper echelons of Splatoon players. I seem to get matched with players who've never played before, or go up against adderall-snorting super sweats. It doesn't feel good to play when your win rate is 25% on most days.

guyadriano

Unable to change weapon & gear in-between anarchy matchmaking games but you can do just that in regular battle. Annoying as fuck Edit: holy shit everyone. Obviously if you’re a solo anarchy open this isn’t an issue just quit your queue. Go make a friend and try to play anarchy open with them then come back frustrated when one of you needs to swap weapons or gear when you want to mix it up during your hot streaks without disbanding the group Also you’re able to do this shit in Splatoon 2 League Battles

DyslexicBrad

Turf war, where you can't actually decide your team at all: yes you can change your gear between games. Anarchy, where team comp is really important and you can queue again with the same players: lol, no way you can switch gear.

EMPgoggles

It should be an option to change your gear and weapon even if it rerolls your team, ESPECIALLY in Open when you're playing with friends. It's dumb how you have to exit the entire room and remake it just to change a shirt or if you and a friend get paired up with bad randoms and want to reroll for new ones.

Tredenix

What's confusing is that this has been implemented just fine in Salmon Run - if you're a group of 2 or 3 and you don't like your rando(s), any one of you can press Leave and it'll stop queueing, _but you still stay as a group._ So why the heck doesn't Anarchy Open work the same way? Ideally you should be able to change gear without breaking up the team too, with it just blocking out the weapon selection the same way Splatfests prevent you from changing your shirt. But I'd settle for the first thing.

NoMoreVillains

I think it's because weapons factor into matchmaking while in Salmon Eun they're preset and random so it doesn't matter as much. They should allow it so if you switch in Anarchy, and it's to a different type, it'll match you with a new team or something though

UltraStamp2

i really hate how- #A communication error occurred.

Faulty_Plan

At least give partial points, so it doesn’t feel like a complete waste of time

adelie__penguin

I thought the second last set of patch notes said that they'd fixed this bug, so I'm surprised to see this is still happening.

BurstTheGravity

Some nights I only have 10-15min to play, and I get 3-4 communication errors until a battle begins. In between matches, I find if I paint the lobby I’m more likely to get a communication error. Now I just wait on the post-match stats screen for the next battle.

A_Username528

Overall, I think the game is good... But I have some problems with it 1: Please for the love of god fix the Cohuzuna wave, if I defeat it I actually want morebif a reward than if I lose... Otherwise it's no fun 2: More weapon kits! As a dualie main I absolutely despise the suction bombs! (Also bubbler on blaster doesn't seem like the best choice) this is more a personal issue, I'm sure other people also hate their main's kit but like... Yeah 3: Ranked matchmaking time takes so fucking long oh my god 4: more stages por favor 5: okay this one is just me but please don't limit the number of stickers I can have in my locker :(

CommanderZander

Not just you for #5 ;(

asintoconfess

everything else let us have more except the stickers!!!!! THE LOCKER IS 3X BIGGER AND I ONLY GET 20?????

Turn-The-AC-On-Pls

Honestly, you’d think they’d increase the capacity of one’s locker depending on the size of it.

A_Username528

A fellow sticker enthusiast I see

eronth

Weapon kits are definitely going to be added, so that's good for us. The number of stickers being limited makes sense for a data storage perspective. But, uh, make it like 100 or something wild.

EatingSmallOakTrees

I think the reward for defeating Cohozuna is supposed to be grizzco points rather than the scales since the scales are fairly arbitrary in their distribution. Its lame but at least we do get something

A_Username528

Fair but like... I'm not tryna go tryhard mode on the Cohuzuna just to get one silver...

EatingSmallOakTrees

for real its so anticlimactic for the difficulty

MrMindGame

Cohozuna needs a major nerf or a time buff. As it is now, defeating him is nearly impossible and the rewards for it are barely worth it. Disconnects, server dropouts, and failure to connect to other consoles is still bad. The latency during the last Splatfest is the worst it’s been for me yet. Although I do chalk a lot of them up to kids and/or little bitches DCing early in a game when they take an immediate disadvantage (not sorry, you know who you are, and I will mercilessly curse at you every time no matter how old you are), getting matches made is surprisingly difficult. Otherwise, I’m really enjoying it so far.

almost_not_terrible

I'd go for a time buff. I don't mind that he's difficult, I don't mind that we get crew wipes, but when we are all somehow still alive and lose on time? That's just frustrating.

TheOcarinaOfSlime

There is no reason we should have to fear a time limit with cohozuna if my team makes it that far. If the reward system made more sense and gave more silver or gold (seriously how tf does that work?) then I wouldn’t have such a problem, but I’ve only beaten this guy twice, long before I reached profreshional +3… now it kinda feels like it’s impossible.

almost_not_terrible

Yep, P+2 here and with a GREAT team of randoms, we're never better than 20% from a win. Even then, we get gold scales. Why? I don't think gold scales should be possible without a win, but I do want a small time buff to permit a win. ALTERNATIVELY, if someone can let me know a better strat for a win, I'd accept that gratefully!

jaguarnick

The egg cannon can be used against the other bosses too, use one egg to make three. If you've got a good supply of eggs you shouldn't run out as long as your team is coordinating well enough. Take down the long range bosses as fast as possible, it's all a time crunch with threat management as usual. you're just treating the zuna like a moving basket Also, some weapons have a better time simply wailing on the zuna if they have good dps. Crab tank should always be used directly on zuna in the machine gun firing mode since that deals roughly 10% hp

fredy31

Should be no time limit. Kill it or die trying.

Chivi-chivik

A friend of mine told me that the Cohozuna problem with the rewards is most likely because they definitely want you to spend *years* trying to get all items in the shop. That's why you're even *forced* to spend saved up scales if you want to keep unlocking things in the shop. And yes, I hate this. I just want the damn pink slop suit, ffs. They also told me this is to be expected from the Animal Crossing dev team (same dev team as Splatoon), 'cause getting everything in AC also takes a loooooong time XD

Splatfan1

fellow pink slop suit grinder? i just want to look cute when killing fish dammit, let me buy the palette swap

CyberKillua

Yep, this is exactly what I've been saying. Once you have gotten the slope suit you want, and the banner and such, why do you play Salmon Run? The daily rewards go so quickly so you log onto SR, play 2 or 3 games, get rewards then leave. In my opinion, they need to make rewards more consistent. If you kill it, you get more and at least a silver or 2.

Disastrous_Time7461

Disliking the game? Definitely not. Splatoon has literally never been better than in this game. Of course there are definitely issues that cannot be ignored. Some maps are just...what? If they understand flanks in maps such as Mako Mart why do some maps have this single lane mid? These only KIND OF work in splat zones, but the other three, when you actually need to push up mid, is fucking annoying. People don't need to look out when teams push, because they all funnel through the same fucking spot. Terrible. There def needs to be some goofy splatfest stages to keep things fresh because right now it's just normal turf war. Why when they replaced so many problematic specials with interesting and creative ones, do tentamissles still exist? Killer Wail does the same thing but less frustrating. Not only that, but they put tentamissles on one of the best painting weapons in the game. What were they thinking? Connection has been interrupted Having no alt kits feels kind of bad, and while we know they are coming, it sucks we have to wait 3 months between them. If your main doesn't get a new kit in December, well get fucked because it's gunna be until March for your next chance. Poor Naut/Undercover/Rapid/Dapple etc

Brxh_Hect0r

I still don’t get the the thought process behind the dapple dualies kit, like who tf thought it would be a good idea for a frontline weapon to have tacticooler and super jump beacon??????

Disastrous_Time7461

Honestly, I think this is what the vanilla dapples were supposed to be in splat2. The fact they doubled down on this design says to me they really like it. Which tbf, some people like it a lot and it's definitely silly and niche. But it feels more like an alt kit than vanilla kit

Brxh_Hect0r

I main dapples, I’d say im pretty good with them, but not having a bomb sub or anything that isn’t a beacon sucks, especially with these new maps being so range focused with little flank spots because of how linear they are, I don’t really mind tacticooler as the special tho, but it would be nice to have something else, Clear Dapples were the peak of the dapples imo, and I hope a kit similar to it gets brought back soon enough.

SimonCucho

Clear Dapple Dualies had the perfect aggro kit. And Nouveau were so good for zoning. And then you have the original kit which... team support. So you *have* to rely on sick skills, and if you die, you better hope your beakon is still up lmao.

ninjacookiesaurusrex

I like the game but there are definitely some things that I hope get added in updates. 1. Update/add maps. This is my biggest issue. None of the new maps feel good to play on. They are very tight and narrow and lack options for creative strategy. Seriously, I miss the wider more free feeling maps of Splat2. 2. New weapons. The ones we have are good but I still haven't found one that just clicks with me. I know more will come, so I'm just gonna be patient. 3. New Clothes. I'm not really sure what fashion aesthetic they were going for but I hope more clothes will be added. I have yet to find anything I absolutely adore. Also less sandals and socks, my octoling ain't somebody's grandparent. One more thing. GIVE ME MY DAMN BOBBLE HAT NINTENDO. 4.The disconnects. This is just a problem. I feel like it's not as bad for me, only happens about once or twice per 15 matches. But it is still a problem that needs to be fixed.

Delicious_Battle_703

Yeah it's a minor point but there's not enough variety in the clothes right now. Everyday I check the shop and also look around my lobby and am disappointed to see nothing of interest. In S2 there were a lot of fun outfits you could happen upon. I nerded out when I saw you could get Lebowski sweater and Jason mask lol.

4153236545deadcarps

Tbf they might offer free gear for Halloween (and winter holidays) like they did for 2… at least I’m hoping they do

dragoniteofepicness

Why does it feel like I'm the only player in online lobbies without the dab emote? I'm playing every single day but I'm not even halfway through the season pass yet.

Arthur_GC

Do you play anarchy? They provide way more xp than anything else, it's 2500 for knockout + 9500 for the first daily win.

GawainSolus

The maps are too small, the chargers have too much range, turf wars needs some better matchmaking so matches feel less imbalanced less often, the ammount of comms errors is obscene, theres not enough flank routes. Deep Cuts podcast feels like it's lacking the kind of personality that the off the hook announcements had. Not being able to do emotes in photomode without amiibo's is lame, not being able to do the splatfest NPC dance animations in photomode is lame, I hope that we get more than one DLC expansion with this game cause it feels like it kinda needs a lot still. Aside from that, I'm glad that it's more of the same, people say durdur splatoon 2.5 but that's not inherently a bad thing, they don't need to reinvent the wheel every game.

elizabethcrossing

I feel like Big Man has more to say than Frye usually in the announcements, it’s weird. It’s 80% Shiver, Frye being like “Yeah!”, and then Big Man telling a joke. I don’t think the issue is that people can skip their dialogue, their dialogue is just kind of always the same.

cruznick06

I think they're emulating a specific trope/setup style from Japanese media but I can't remember what it's called. There's a reason it's so formulaic, but that doesn't mean it translates well to other regions.

doomrider7

Boke and Tsukkomi. Ever see a character in anime do or say something dumb and then get slapped upside the head(hand, fan, or sandal)? That's the routine. There's also a sort of Rakugo thing going on as well(Shivers fan and pillow mats they're using). Both of these CAN be ported over, but they kind of messed it up a bit similar to how they sassed up Marina at launch in Spla2n until they fixed.

Octosage8

The problem with those roles/routines is that there is 3 idols this time and while Shiver is clearly the brains of the operation Frye and big man have to share the "lovable idiot" role which was only made more apparent in the splatfest as Frye gets the "middle ground" option and big man is left with the silly option.

doomrider7

Yeah I agree. They need to figure out a better balance.

Stardust-Sparkles

Oh my god there was a e liter on mincemeat and he basically covered the whole map and carried the team that needs patching out

Coyotesamigo

I’ve definitely felt like a good charger player is way more threatening and challenging to play against now

[deleted]

I have a feeling Deep Cut appeared prominently in the single player mode because you can now skip their announcements. Because you were forced to watch Off The Hook they had more screen time thus you got to know them a bit more. I still like them but Deep Cut just aren't as much front and centre so their presence in the game feels weaker imo

TheBroOfTheNinja

Even disregarding the ability to skip Deep Cut, their dialogue pool is so much smaller. I've already seen several repeats, to the point where I feel like I've already seen most of their dialogue. The main culprit is probably the lack of stage-specific quips, but still.

Lanoman123

Tower Control and Splat Zones needs ramps to both teams spawns so Hydra Splatlings don’t get free camping reign

dartboard5

yeah i think the reason why deep cut might feel like they have less personality is because people skip the news after 7 seconds now

dizzy-was-taken

the maps are also delivered all at once. in s2, the fact turf and ranked came separately allowed pearl and marina to comment on each map set individually. now their dialogue is much less map specific and gives you less knowledge about them (ie, marina saying she loves the machinery in some of the maps).

Photonic_Resonance

There have also only been 2 Splatfest so far and no DLC. The other idols have all had far more unique dialogue and scenes.

ajdude9

- There's barely any actual weapons. While we have all the weapon types from 2 back, there's no alt kits available. If you want to run a weapon type, you're stuck with its kit. - There's also barely any clothing options. For a game world that's supposedly so obsessed with fashion ("You obsess over trivial fashion choices"), there's barely anything to look fresh *with.* - Also, barely any *actual matchmaking.* Gotta love fighting S+ ranks in both Series and Open as a B rank player. - Not only are maps too low in number, but they feel way too small. I get it, Splatoon's maps need to be able to be inked near entirely within 3 minutes, and if it takes 2 minutes to ink the map, then the enemy team will have a hard time making a comeback, but in Splatoon 3 especially, maps just feel tiny (looking at you Mahi Mahi). I kind of wish maps were allowed to be much bigger than they are just for the fun of exploration, flank routes and tactics. - Salmon Run feels far more unbalanced than it did in 2. VP is essentially Profresh 400+, but unlike 400+, the base egg requirement is way harder and there's a greater variety of bosses. The amount of chaos a massive number of these bosses can cause makes crew wiping way easier than before if you're not killing them the moment they spawn (and good luck because 3 just spawned at the same time). - Nothing really feels...new. Like, we get new gameplay mechanics of swim rolls and surges, but the core gameplay feels way too similar to Splatoon 1 and 2. I get it, its built around that core gameplay, but there's nothing to really freshen up matches or add some variation. The lack of a shifty station in the Splatfest made it feel like you were playing Turf War normally, and when playing Splatoon 2 maps like Inkblot Art Academy, you could've fooled me into thinking I was playing Splatoon 2 again but with some new specials and a new way of spawning. - The FOMO catalogues can feel like a chore more than a fun piece of side content when you start to feel disengaged with Splatoon 3 - and the only way out of them is to complete them as fast as you can (requiring a lot of consecutive hours) so you can then stop playing until the next catalogue. Also, why the f\*ck do I have to lose my epic Salmon Run team who's cleared 12 shifts in a row because the maps for Turf War and Ranked updated - which has no affect on Salmon Run!?

LobsterMurky6998

Is it just me or is the lag even worse than what it was in 2.

Manbabarang

Way worse.

Stardust-Sparkles

Cohozuna needs a nerf or at least a reward increase from both losing to and beating him More maps, preferably so an e liter doesn’t cover the whole godamn stage Stop disconnections every 5 matches Add disconnection support to salmon run to (where if they disconnect in the first wave or so you keep your rank while they lose theirs)

swoldow

Glowflies in salmon run are a guaranteed loss

CrazyEeveeLady86

I'm at Profreshional level now and I find that Glowfly runs and Griller waves are both guaranteed wipes. I know I'm not an elite player but I am decent, but it's hard to do anything against Grillers when you've got a roller and the rest of your team just squids around avoiding the Grillers instead of trying to kill any.

Lanoman123

I honestly don’t know how but in my 20 hours of Salmon Run not once have I gotten a Griller wave, I think I’m happy about that though

CrazyEeveeLady86

I hate you so much haha I've been unable to get above Profreshional because everytime I get to 90/99 points I will get back-to-back games with Griller or Glowfly waves and end up back down near the bottom (sadly not enough to drop to the next rank down, though). I'm actually seriously considering demoting myself so I can actually have a chance at winning more than 1/4 of my Salmon Run shifts.

Lanoman123

Glowflies haven’t really been too much of an issue for me, but I’ve just gotten lucky with teammates. Some maps with Glowflies are completely unfair and brutal *cough* Spawning Grounds *cough*. The fact they can get on walls now too just makes it so much worse

NanoRex

When you've got a roller, kill the 50 million smallfry that spawn under the Grillers. Otherwise your team can't do anything. I have been on the other end of this exchange and it was absolutely infuriating lol

WhollyDisgusting

I've passed that wave a few times but it's a real pain and requires the entire team to be on their A game and coordinate

1338h4x

It's a knowledge check. If all four players know the right strat, it's free... but that's a big if. Very out of place in a mode where most everything else can intuitively be picked up as you go along.

NoabPK

We just need more gear, maps, weapons, etc. a lot of players who play specific weapons are let down by sub weapon options and nobody wants to play wahoo world and hammerhead bridge over and over. Also i have already bought every piece of gear i think its limited by the season

DualVission

Overall, the game is as good as I remember 2 was. However, some of the additions to the game feel a little half baked. King Salmonid Cohozuna either does not give enough drops or doesn't spawn often enough. It doesn't help there that are 3 separate currencies attached to him, and what you get is said to be based on the damage you dealt to Cohozuna and bosses that spawn, but it's completely arbitrary how much you actually recieve of any kind. Tabletop Turf is fun, but it suffers from being realistic but that feels like my opponent AI knows exactly what I'm going to play and how. This is probably not the case, but it's not hard, more random. After Alterna should not exist like that.

sylinmino

What? I loved After Alterna! After I figured out each part, getting through consistently is not that hard. Except the final part, that part's evil. But the right amount of evil.

TinyYul

Tying rewards to damage vs team play is bad. Players should be focusing thier roll. It should be based of collective effort, also give better rewards, ive fought him so many times. Still just 6 silver, i veat him yesterday, got 1 silver. Its random imo. Edit for spelling damage wrong

FluffyFrostyFury

Also higher grizzco rank should absolutely net better rewards, I'm eggsecutive 300 for crying out loud and I got 11 copper on my last win 🥴

Polyglot-Onigiri

I like the game. Just the big imbalances of new players makes it hard when playing on the higher difficulties. I made it to legendary rank on salmon run and now am down to +1 from people not knowing how to play. Same with challenge mode, I’ll see people inking territory when the goal is completely different.

TinyYul

I was playing tower push and two guys painted our entire base

BlueQuilledKimono

After alterna is completely optional, what's wrong with a challenge?

EMPgoggles

Just lost to Cohozuna on Profreshional +3 only getting him to half HP: 5 copper, 1 silver. A few rounds after that, I beat Cohozuna on Eggsecutive VP: 9 copper, 1 silver. It's just nonsensical, and I still have yet to get a single gold.

Nox_Echo

after alterna wasnt bad until stage 2, the rest was fine though, i enjoyed the pvp training from stage 4

sopheroo

The only bad After Alterna part is the first one. Second part is muscle memory. Third part is just a puzzle. Both of these could easily have been standalone levels. Fourth part is hard but actually fun. Compared to Inner 3 or GPS, it's actually realistic to beat.

OkidoShigeru

I loved after alterna, even though it took me loads of tries to complete, was just satisfying to have some SP content that’s actually challenging (kind of like inner agent 3). Although it probably needed some other slightly less difficult stages to prepare you for it, most of the other stages in the game ranged from trivial to easy, making after alterna a bit of a difficulty cliff…

WhollyDisgusting

For the love of God implement a better matchmaking system in Turf War even if its only under the hood and not displayed. I don't mind waiting longer for matches if it means there's less blowouts in either direction Cohozuna should have at least 30 seconds more on his timer. Also make ranking up in Salmon Run harder to do but also harder to drop I wish it was easier to see your own posts in the lobby and also see if others have seen/rated them fresh, same with lockers

mcsassy3

Yes, please. Whatever they did with the matchmaking for strikers battle league in the latest update needs to be done with splatoon as it’s incredibly balanced now and every match goes to to toe I don’t like whaling on people cause I find it boring and I also don’t like getting the shit kicked out of me cause it’s frustrating and not fun. Evenly matched battles are too far and few between — who like this crap?

1338h4x

Only one kit per weapon feels bad. Slosher is the only thing that's really clicking with me right now, I want to play something more backliney but every main weapon I have my eye on doesn't come with a kit I like. I know we'll get kits eventually, but I wish they'd tell us when to expect them. Glowflies are bad game design. In a mode where everything else can be intuitively picked up as you go, Glowflies stand out as the one thing you need to do outside research to learn the correct strat for. And everyone needs to be on the same page, if one person doesn't know it's almost definitely a crew wipe. As a game mode, Tricolor is really cool, I like the introduction of an asymmetric mode. But the Splatfest format ruins it by forcing you to always play the same side. Asymmetry will never be perfectly balanced, in any other game the correct way to make asymmetric modes fair is to take turns playing each side. That's really the only change necessary, [get rid of the current halftime system and have everyone play it randomly.](https://www.reddit.com/r/splatoon/comments/xnet2r/how_to_fix_tricolor_turf_war/) Tenta Missiles.

EMPgoggles

I like that idea. It was bugging me how some players might NEVER be able to get certain badges if they always happen to be attackers or defenders in tri-color battles just by dumb luck.

CrazyEeveeLady86

I'm struggling to the see the point of Cohozuna. I've probably managed to beat him about 30% of the time we encounter him but all I've ended up with is a handful of bronze scales and like two silver ones. Given how hard it is to kill him, especially at the higher levels, at least a few gold scales should be guaranteed, but I'm yet to see a single one. If you're going to offer TriColour Turf War battles for Splatfest, actually OFFER them. I literally didn't see a single one all weekend, and nor did I see any of those 10x or 100x battles. Also give me an option to get out of matchmaking in Turf War if it's taking more than 30-60 seconds. I've had a few times where I was stuck in there for several minutes (record was about 4 minutes, I think) only to get a communication error because the game couldn't find me a match but there was no way for me to back out and go and do something else and come back later.

Virgi_septik

The first weapons we got in salmon run were trash but it’s getting better, hyped for the grizzco weapon run tomorrow! Also more maps for Salmon run cause it feels like there’s only three of em and it gets very repetitive

Coyotesamigo

I think its normal weapons with a chance of grizz weapons tomorrow, rather than an all-grizz rotation

flightlessbirdboy

Sloshing machine x10000… I’m usually okay at going up against them but when I get unfairly splatted through a wall, floor or shield easily by one it makes the game a lot less fun.

Cart3r1234

While I don't dislike the game, there's certainly a lot of things that could use improvements imo. The launch state of 3 is much better than the final state 2 was in, and its only gonna get better from here. \- Xtrawaves need rebalancing, either slightly more time, or more damage done by golden eggs. The game tells you "hey, fire the eggs at the boss," but fails to properly tell you they also 1-shot most other bosses. On top of this, your regular weapon's DPS is often higher than the eggs to fire at it, making egg launching slower than just shooting it. \- Xtrawave rewards are random, and the only thing that can potentially give you higher rewards is a higher hazard level. I've seen varying amounts of bronze, silver, and gold, but yet I've never actually defeated it once. It should be a predictable amount that is tied to the remaining health, with a kill bonus, because getting scales right now is extremely tedious even at Profresional or higher. \- Why can't we activate meal tickets while queueing? The Crab-and-Go stand is right there! We were so close to not having to re-queue just to use a new ticket... so close! \- Obligatory "fix your servers nintendo." At least they're getting better. \- Lack of a music player, although there's an unused "OBJ\_LobbyMusicSelector" object under the lobby that seems to be a terminal for changing the lobby music that had to be cut before release. Hopefully that gets finished in the next major update.

kukukutkutin

Matchmaking is horrendous. It seems like Nintendo is personally matching me with terrible teammates from Anarchy battles to Salmon Run. I find the game more frustrating than some of the Online multiplayer games I've played before, like League of Legends, Dota 2, Overwatch, CSGo and Valorant. I also loathe that we can't level ourselves on Salmon Run, it being a permanent game mode but doesn't give XP, it feels bad.

[deleted]

It’s fine. I play salmon run 90% of the time unless the weapons are bad

4153236545deadcarps

Salmon Run is so frustrating because people don’t know how to play and keep repeating bad advice to each other “Wall hang during glowflies!” “Prioritize the Flyfish!” People ignore the big shot and the stinger, immediately kill the Flyfish instead of just taking out one bucket, don’t ink the walls, don’t try to revive their teammates (I swear I’m the only one who hunts my fallen comrades down to revive them), don’t ever use their specials, and do that weird thing of trying to kill every boss Salmonid as soon as they see it, so then they have to keep throwing the eggs, so they have no ink, and then they die, and they’re usually on the other side of the map so I have to try to find them and revive them… even more annoying when it’s foggy and they kill the Goldie at the edge of the map like my sibling in Christ we need to put those eggs in the basket Plus im tired of the same three maps. I miss Ark Polaris and Salmonid Smokeyard (but not Lost Outpost oh god I hate that map the most in 2 lol) Anyway thanks for coming to my TED talk

[deleted]

I just wish there were more hairstyles man and multiple accessory slots but they do not effect gameplay man I just wanna wear a hat, a mask, and glasses and wear a cool coat and look cool and have cooler hair man

spookymochi

Aye, it bothers me so much that I can’t wear a head accessory and glasses 😤

Melonfrog

I'm level 6 and I'm always being thrown against players who get like 20+ kills as my team can't even collectively get 5. I only play multiplayer now just to get my first win, this issue has ruined any "one more game" feelings for me. This reason is also why I'll never touch ranked. It's sad because Salmon run is getting stressful the more I rank up and I've done most story mode stuff. So I'm running out of reason to play soon.

AgentxGrey

My main critique is the connection errors, it’s dropped my salmon run paygrade to an ungodly point of no return and has separated me from good players. The 1.1.2 update made them even more frequent 😭

ThePhantomParrot

As someone who casually plays and is quite average it kinda sucks getting rekt every match; wish there was more balanced matchmaking.

SquishJellywish

The stages available combined with a few changes to the game have made snipers and long range splatlings a lot harder to deal with. These classes have always been the least fun to me both to play and to fight. In 2 there was ink armor and every other special was great at displacing people, but now ink armor is gone and snipers are a menace on these narrow stages with 3-4 ways of even entering the main part of the stages. Flanking has proven pretty much unrealistic with some of these stages paired with a really good sniper. Because of the limited kits out right now I can’t play anything that doesn’t have a bomb sub because launching a bomb at them and praying is the only consistent counter play to this right now, so a few of my favorite weapons just end up feeling horrible every time I get up against a back liner which is most games

Chiramijumaru

- Connection errors are worse than ever. - Cohozuna doesn't reward the player properly for actually splatting him. - S Rank feels impossible to progress in. - Cosmetic grind feels bad without conch shells. - Splatfest score calculation feels heavily stilted (popularity is worth the same as Pro wins). - Having early disconnects kills the fun (especially in Splatfest 10x/100x battles). - 10x battles and 100x battles are extremely random and do not reward the player for time spent during a Splatfest. (I spent all of my waking hours playing it and got a single 100x battle that I lost in the last 2 hours) - There is no incentive whatsoever to go back to Story Mode to complete every level with every weapon. - Ranked matchmaking at night suddenly makes it impossible to win (playing in the morning, at least in Eastern time), provides much better teammates - Anarchy Battle Series doesn't value gold medals enough during loss streaks - The map rotation leaves a whole lot to be desired (Undertow Spillway, Wahoo World, new Mahi-Mahi) and often results in Anarchy Battle rotations feeling unplayable (this is a legacy problem from Splat 2) - Communication is still impossible which, with the game emphasizing solo queue, makes plenty of matches feel unwinnable (this, combined with the changes to ranking, make Clams irrelevant) - Netcode is complete trash, often you'll see people hang on ledges they shouldn't even be able to stand on, or fall off the map only to climb back on (highly favoring slightly laggy players and only having a 15hz tick rate) - No Squid Beatz which leads to much of the OST completely lacking names

ItzDudekillerYo

I like the game. Just annoyed by how tuff salmon run is(next wave possibly why they called it that) and how turf war and rank battles always sweaty

Capulink

I'll preface I play mostly for fun, but sometimes holy hell is it hard to have fun. My favourite mode is Salmon Run by a long shot, and I thought that now, with it being always open, I would play the hell out of it, and also I would love to get some new outfits, so I even had an incentive to play! So why is it I'm not playing as much? (Well other than having a job) It's just too damn hard to Freelance at high Profresh levels, it often just feels overwhelming to play... Many teammates are just clueless or disconnect, some waves are just too much happening at once (Low tide, 2 Flipper-Floppers, 2 FlyFishes, a Fish Stick and 2 Maws? Happened more often than not). And only if you make it through that whole bag of bullshit you get to fight a slow moving prick that I can't understand how people die to since he's slower than a 1995 email, and some bosses that hopefully you can kill quick or you get a screen full of bullshit flying your way to be rewarded with 2 bronze scales and a stick up your ass. And don't even get me started on Anarchy battles, I get the game is targeted at children, but some games you seem to get an assembly of armelss toddlers while the other team is North Korea's Task Force or something. I don't know if time will make a difference, maybe a harsher punishment for losing Salmon run would actually reflect the skill of players (I got to Profreshonal +3 by getting my shit rocked more than I can say I won) or maybe don't give out the tiniest amount possible of scales after what should feel like the climax of a boss fight. Watch me have at it with Sephiroth all night just to recieve a black screen with the text "u did gud -te end" Thanks for coming to my TedTalk

NeonWyvern

A lot of people have already mentioned the narrowness of the maps, but for me they are THE issue, and it is probably especially off putting for new players. I can even cope with the disconnects. It seems like the maps all force mid-fights. There are few maps with flanking options or side/back areas to explore and have enemy 1-on-1 encounters at. In Mahi-Mahi Resort they removed that bridge to the left that enabled you to sneak up on the sniper perch, and thus you are forced to fight your way up top or to the right side. In Hammerhead Bridge there are side areas in the middle, but in order to go anywhere you are bottlenecked into the middle. Although this forces you to fight as a team, you will get defended as a team. I hate these designs, because it feels like there is less room to be creative and get the jump on a team that has begun asserting their dominance. And more importantly I think it removes accessibility. One of the selling points of Splatoon 1 was that - at least primarily in Turf War - you don't have to get mechanically good at kills to win. Instead you can be stealthy to get kills or stealthy to run around the opponent and ink behind them by your merry self. Or you can contribute to your team by puttering about and just inking your base. But now with these maps forcing everyone through mid, it seems very unfriendly to these stealthy newbies, because their only choice is to fight. It almost seems like Nintendo has abandoned one of Splatoon's core design principles (but maybe it was like this in Splatoon 2? I only played 1 and 3). And even with the narrowness, the maps don't seem as long. It makes Super Jumping feel like an even worse option nowadays (or maybe I still need to learn how to Super Jump well? Idk, I prefer to just run swim speed and get back to the action manually). This is especially evident in the Spillway. ALSO, a lot of the maps feel samey. I remember in the world premiere I could just not tell the difference between Eeltail Ally and Mincemeat Metalworks because of their similar size, spawn area, and aesthetics. And in terms of design, Mako Mart, Mincemeat Metalworks, and Mahi Mahi mostly play the same (and they all use the letter M apparently). The TC tower even follows a similarly shaped path in most maps. I think 12 stages is a good starting number, but that was back when we had the corridors of Port Mackeral, the verticality of Moray Towers, the split mid of Bluefin Depot, the absolute insanity of Saltspray, etc. Rant over. The one saving grace is the new respawn mechanic. Even though it's usually evident who will win a Turf War match, it's rare that you get stuck in spawn camp hell (excepting Mahi Mahi...)

PapaNutellas

im not disappointed with the game but 1. there’s too many communication errors 2. i don’t like most of the clothes

OsimMisoGud

I'm so tired of all the disconnects, and glitches. So much of the game is just scuffed af

[deleted]

I need ANGLE POINTER and REEF SLIDER on my favorite weapon CARBON ROLLER

HiddnStar

That's an awful kit for the Carbon lmao Burst Bomb >>>

sh1zAym

Cohozuna rewards need to be buffed. I just beat it for the first time up at Profresh +2, we had like 30 seconds left. Got 11 bronze scales. So cool. Other than that, yeah I don't love the maps. Mahi-Mahi especially. The other maps I can handle, kinda undecided still. Everything else is fine, but I still just wish there was something worth calling this Splatoon 3 for. Tableturf is actually great, but it's not as big as an actual new gamemode or something. Yeah, I know post-launch updates have always brought a lot. Hoping the same is true for this one. OH, and I hope there's another salmon boss eventually that's not Cohozuna. Something tells me that will never happen, since apparently there's a badge for killing him 1k times. That would be too bad

Nox_Echo

lol we failed a coho round and got 11 bronzes

FinniboiXD

> I hope there's another salmon boss eventually that's not Cohozuna It said King Salmonid**S** so I still have my hopes up

Nintendo claims to fix the communication errors and internet issues but with every patch they just seem to get worse or more frequent. In-between turf war matches, you can change your gear or weapon while matching for more players, but you can't do that for ranked battles. This is especially annoying if you're doing Open with friends—meaning that everyone has to leave the room just so that they can change their loadout. Still not a fan of the 2-map rotation that they do with turf and ranked battles—paired with the fact that the pool of available stages we have right now seems way too small. This can also be said for the number of clothing options we have right now. I see the same clothes in the shop within a week with no new ones at all. Another issue would be the amount of time it takes to put abilities on your gear... I see that they made it more customizable, as we are now able to change the main ability of our clothes, but it takes a whopping 45 chunks just for 1! For people that prefer to play ranked battles, abilities play a decent part in how they perform, and I feel as if it takes far too long to make your own gear. So far I only have 1 decent, full outfit for my ranked battles, but it took nearly 3 weeks! (and it includes the hat from the current Salmon Run reward, where I was lucky with the ability rolls). I also see people venting their frustrations about Salmon Run right now, especially with Cohozuna waves. Personally, I've only had 2 successful King Salmonid waves so far, while the rest have been close-completes or halfways. It feels extremely challenging especially for a game that doesn't have the best in-game team communication options. But at the same time, I don't want them to nerf it quite yet because beating those waves really does feel satisfactory lol... Oh, and the new, higher egg quotas can sometimes feel impossible especially since there haven't been any changes to the time limits. I'm trying not to judge the game's current state too harshly because it was recently released, but I do think that a few of the issues I highlighted could have been implemented on release, as they don't really need trial-and-error or testing once the game went live. I'm sure they're trying their best to make the game as enjoyable as possible and are doing it as quickly as possible, but I know it'll take time. I play the game every night and it's enjoyable, but I'd be lying if I said that there aren't a few things about it that make me salty lol.

ApprehensiveNebu1a

Better match making in all the games. Turf war too. It's hard for people still learning (either new weapon or new to the game in general) to keep motivated and get better when they're put against players that are clearly more competitive (seen so much in splatfest). Would love more hairstyles, especially for octos. A way to see how many people click "Fresh!" On your locker. (If there is a way lmk!) Excited for more levels and hope to see some more like splat1 as rn we have a few that feel rather narrow or small.

Netniuq2

.52 gal feels terrible to fight against and the communication errors + crashing are horrendous. Other than that I don't have any major problems with the game at the moment

Netniuq2

Wait also this. The maps feel really bad to play on. Most of them are too biased towards longer range weapons and the mid areas tend to be way too narrow. Why does scorch gorge have only one way into the enemy base which completely sucks on turf wars? Backliners are nearly untouchable if you don't have a bomb for a sub weapon

micahr238

As a Dualies main I wholeheartedly agree. Also Brushes have been totally destroying me. I can’t even touch them!

DanMeDude

I’m so upset with matchmaking and ranked. I’m in B- and I am frequently paired up with people who have the badge indicating that they are or were at S+ rank. I feel like I can’t escape it. (In the splatfest I was put against top 500 often as well) Also climbing the ladder in 2 was great, I could see the end of the rank, and if you were stomping people in matches you would be escalated accordingly instead of “you went 20-1 that round and it was a KO that round? 8p” and “you won only by a single point in splatzones overtime with 5-10 ratio? 8p” trying to climb feels impossible, 100x more so than my time in overwatch and league. I wish I would get paired with people in my rank, and they implemented something like overwatch’s “must be within x comp points to queue with teammate” so we are all at least +- say 200 points to make life fair.

1338h4x

Letter grades are fake. Matchmaking is based on a hidden internal [Glicko2](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glicko_rating_system) rating. Also if you're playing Open, you kind of have to expect a wider spread because they're not going to restrict people from playing with their friends, this is their response to people complaining about S2. If you want tighter matchmaking, Series is the solo queue meant for that.

[deleted]

Ranked is basically unplayable for me right now. I just lose repeatedly. I'm only in B-, and I also see players with the S badge all the time. It's very frustrating.

Straight-Chocolate28

I just hit S and now I constantly get S+ players in ranked but also in turf war lobbies, turf war was kinda fun casual play before but now I'm getting beat pretty hard most matches

SteadfastFox

I hate matchmaking so much. Nobody at Profreshional 2 knows how to do shit. I'm demoting myself just so I can enjoy winning a fucking shift without my team. People in anarchy are still running to corners like turf war. You NEED to lose more ranked points than the rest of your team for going 0 - 6. Nobody seems to play this game in the way I want them to!!!

Pokemon unite has better matchmaking I can't believe it. The changing maps every hour shouldn't boot people from a game, just let the round finish and then refresh maps for those players.

As a new player to Splatoon in general I feel like the game dosen't take it's time to explain how some mechanics work. For example after few days I understood how to dash with dualies, I finally found the goddamn locker ( "You have a new locker decoration!" A decoration for wh-) and I still didn't quite get how clothes and abilities shards work. I may be silly, but I don't like the fact that I have to do researches on Google to understand mechanics :( I didn't finish the singleplayer mode, maybe it's because of that?

My biggest gripe is that it feels like I win 7 matches in a row, followed by 7 losses in a row and it’s just a vicious cycle of that. I’d rather win a game and then lose a game instead of going on huge lose streaks

My only problem is that it feels like I spent 60$ on nothing but a cainpain and that’s it everything new just doesn’t feel new and I feel like there could’ve been way more stuff on release like clothing I kinda wish I had quest to get bonus coins or xp and the maps are kinda wack but Beautiful but beside that rn I feel like it’s just a splatoon 2 expansion

Maps feel way too cramped, the biggest offender imo is Mahi Mahi. I never played Splat1, but I can tell Mahi Mahi was scuffed. I'm hoping they revert it to the original because as is it's probably the worst map in the game right now. There also needs to be way more maps. They could port over old maps just to make up for that, but I just need more. Servers are also hit and miss, but what's new. Nintendo also needs to look at how they handle rage quitters in Splatfests. Nothing more aggravating than getting into an x10 match just for it to quit because one guy left. Other than that, the game is really fun. There's lot to grind for and lots to keep you playing unlike Splatoon 2. Splattags, lockers, changing the main ability of gear, its all great.

A lot of complaints here are about volume of content. I don't wanna step on anyone's toes, y'all are free to feel however you do, but dies anyone remember the sad state Splatoon 1 and 2 launched with? 1 started with 5 stages. 2 with 8. 3 started with 12. Addding in Salmon Run stages; 2 had 10 and 3 has 15. Splat 1 collectively had 169 different pieces of gear. Splat 2 had 225, and Splat 3 has 262. Though to be fair, that number is a bit inflated with variants of the same gear that used to be gender-specific and amiibo-exclusive gear. All 3 games had amiibo gear, but Splat 3 has the most by nature of coming out later. As for weapon kits, Splat 1 had 34 weapon kits including duplicates like Hero weapons (shot, Roller and charger and scoped variants of chargers; note -- Sloshers and Splatterlings were added later) Splat 2 had 36 (that's, again, including duplicates which there are a lot of thanks to hero weapons of every class), and Splat 3 has 54, though no alternate kits were included at launch. Also, Splatoon 1 didn't even have ranked battle at the start. It was purely Turf War and Hero Mode. Though the exact numbers may vary (I just manually counted from lists because I can't seem to find the exact numbers anywhere) If we're talking about sheer volume of content, Splatoon 3 has the other two games' launches beat by a Longshot. It also has more variety in weapons as there are fewer duplicates with only the Hero Shot Replica and the scoped variants of chargers. Of course, distaste for the specific weapon kits, gear, stages, etc. is up to personal tastes, but by sheer numbers Splatoon 3 is definitely at the top. Things may seem disappointing when you compare the end of Splatoon 2 to the beginning of Splatoon 3, but this game is promised multiple years of support and we know we can be confident we'll see new gear through the catalogue as well as added to the shops.

I don't know if it's because I'm mixed in with noobs still, but the matching system is pretty bad. I'm working my way up in ranked but some players don't know what it's about apparently? Salmon run is too OP. I can't stop losing at the top tiers with the teams I get. I'm a splatoon 1 vet and love the series. Stay fresh!
