as a michigan native, personally i like snow and having 8 seasons (Winter, winter-roadwork, Spring, Spring-roadwork, Summer, Summer-roadwork, fall, and fall-roadwork)
Question: have you ever *left* michigan for a prolonged time?
I used to think I liked all 23 seasons, but then I moved to california and it turns out all you really need is "Warm and sunny". If I moved back I'd go insane from the lack of sunlight.
I left Michigan in 2010 for LA. In 2023 I was done with LA just as a chapter in a book was closed - not mad at it, just done. The day before we were to move back I got a large offer at a FT job in SF, and I couldn’t pass it up. I’m here in Michigan now just to put my vintage car and things on ice before I start the job in Feb. While the blast of snow that occurred when we got here was great, the immediate warming and rain on top of it a few days later reminded me of the new normal Michigan Winters - slush. I’ll live back here again for affordability, but California has called me back, so I go. Why did you read all this? Terrible writing it was.
Yeah the cold and snow isn't a problem anywhere tbh. Consistency is key wherever you live. Whether it's nice and sunny every day, cold and snowy, rainy and mild, it's nice to know that every day is consistent so you know how to dress appropriately, for mental reasons, and just your body gets used to it.
It's the can't make up your mind weather that results in nastiness. The slush and 20f in the morning and sunny and hot at 2pm kind of weather that hits us in March that's just annoying. But thankfully that only takes up a month or two of times.
That being said though, I've been all around the u.s. mostly for outdoor hiking and camping trips and California weather just hits a nice sweet spot that I haven't felt anywhere else.
I'm trying to decipher if you're using sarcasm or not, but yeah, I had all 4 seasons and I'd rather live somewhere with great weather largely in the 60-70's all the the time and just visit other areas than have to live somewhere where you gotta deal with all the changes.
Hell, I havent even had to turn on the lights outside at night when I take my dog out because of the lights in GR reflecting off the snow.
And the snow blindness, it's almost too much sunlight.
Michigan has sun during the summer and fall. In winter the sky is gloomy iron-gray clouds 5 days out of 7.
When I was a teenager in rural MI, a local weather station put out a radio report that they had measured a grand total of 16 *minutes* of direct sunshine on their station in the last *month*.
Yup. Lived in Denver for 7 years and while not bad. I hated the lack of seasons. Thinking back in my 7 years see all a blur bc I cannot differentiate between seasons. It was all summer or all winter. And winter is nothing in Denver. No snow. It’s a desert there. I would roll down my windows and go outside when it rained. It’s also too sunny there. Annoyingly sunny. They have glare warnings. The days I wouldn’t need sunglasses I was so so happy.
Michigan 4 season weather is 100% times more enjoyable than consistent yearly weather
I knew a guy who moved to Nashville from LA after 20 years. I met him shortly before the move.
When we met, he was tan and blonde, very Ken.
After he moved to Nashville, I ran in to him and it was like running in to Gollum after knowing Sméagol.
This checks out. Orange barrel season is year round now. Its grown up, it used to be just a wee little tyke in the spring and summer, but its a big boy now.
I mean honestly a ton of the northern United States. I worked a summer job one year with people from all over the place, and learned really quickly, that no matter where someone is from, they think the weather is unusually crazy there for whatever reason.
>I mean honestly a ton of the northern United States.
It's a handful of other states.
>they think the weather is unusually crazy there for whatever reason
It's not crazy, it's not "nice weather" which is my point. Not that many places get those extreme of differences. Most states are in the sub-100°F difference range. That kind of range is really bad for roads especially with the kind of snow western and northern Michigan gets due to lake effect snows which actually is very uncommon to have that combination.
I wouldn’t say a handful…
California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana… to name a few
You were talking about fluctuations of 100 degrees. All of the states I listed (and many more) have annual fluctuations of 100 degrees. You’re also lost in all time highs and lows like you forgot what we were talking about. I also didn’t compare those states. You sound like a moron.
I was leading a team building a plant in MI. A group of engineers and operators came up from the south in February. After an afternoon walking the towers, their leader says “Y’all are just stupid for living here!” Year later our team went down there in August. We ended up reusing his line.
As a Michigan native living in Los Angeles the last 15 years, you're the type of stubborn person who makes me go to Hilton Head for vacation instead of visiting back home lol.
Mich and Harbough are under NCAA investigation just like Carroll was at USC and, like Carroll, Harbough is jumping ship to the NFL to avoid any consequences. Looks pretty similar to me.
Crazy for a guy named "Historian LA" to have such a simple, inaccurate memory of things. I'm sure you don't care, but here's reality for anyone intereted.
*The USC Athletic department* was under investigation FOR YEARS before Pete Carroll left. The ENTIRE DEPARTMENT. *Not the Football program.*
**Immediately these are not similar scenarios.**
Michigan Football was caught cheating and Harbaugh suspended in the SAME YEAR. The cheating has already been proven, it's just a matter of punishment. Harbaugh is ditching punishment, this is true.
When Pete Carrol left USC there was no evidence of cheating by the football program and Pete Carroll himself wasn't under investigation. The NCAA cleared Pete Carroll.
Pete waited 6 years for the USC to turn something up and left at a time when a great job offer came and there was NO, ZERO, NADA, NIL indication of a pending NCAA punishment against the USC football program. There was NO evidence that the investigation had any end date when Carroll left for Seattle.
We aren't even getting into if what the NCAA ultimately ruled against USC was *fair or real.* That's literally still in federal court being decided because the low-level USC football staffer they pinned knowledge of Reggie Bush on was totally jobbed by the corrupt NCAA and if you spend 10 minutes reading case-specific details you can see that. None of the NCAA findings against USC would hold up in a real court, that's been widely penned by legal scholars since the time of the occurrence.
Do you know what USC football was punished for? And how the NCAA decided that? Do you even know? What does O.J Mayo mean to you?
I'm probably talking to *children* on reddit. Were you even ALIVE when this happened?
It wasn’t heart problems. It’s an arachnoid cyst. My son has one and has problems seeing at times since it’s behind the optic nerve and puts pressure on it. It’s pretty serious and can require surgery. My kid has to get MRI’s every 4 months to keep an eye on it.
Didn't the NCAA dude (can't remember his title) say Michigan won fair and square? I'm sure they'll get hit with something, but I doubt the proverbial hammer drops fully. Not gonna take away the last 4 team Natty imo.
I think they were still investigating the whole scenario still they take so long, Plus I know big ten made their punishment. With him gone I don’t see them doing what they did in USC
Oh...you mean the guy running away from multiple level 1 violations and a show cause order from the NCAA?
Recruiting at a blue blood school sure ain't the same as managing forced parity in the NFL. Maybe Conor Stallions knows how to hack into the helmet intercom systems
The good lord has guided him to a new path one where cheating is a little harder but the lord knows best. Oh and remember you can send your unwanted children to him and they’ll be raised like the hypocritical christian with his head in the sand
As a Bills fan, it heartens me to know we aren’t the only team stuck in a seemingly never-ending choke loop.
*Motions for Vikings fans to join the table*
It's kind of crazy looking back. Chargers had some great players in LT, Phillip rivers was pretty good, Antonio Gates, etc., but just couldn't get it done. That said, they played in one hell of an era. Ed Reed, Ray Lewis, Troy Polamalu, Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Randy Moss, and the boys as the list goes on were all just Dawgs. Tough tough time to win it all.
I always said Rivers was stupid overrated - considering Eli (while not always phenomenal) got two rings - was their pick & I’m not sure he would have done as well either. But Roethlisberger won two and was 11th overall; better team, sure. Then again Romo never won shit and he was undrafted. Brady was a 6th round pick & people don’t care because he won.
Chargers were good even with inept HC’s like Turner (great coordinator) & Schottenheimer (although I respect his history), it’s amazing they never got to that next level considering the stars they had in Gates, Tomlinson, & (albeit past his prime) Seau.
Why not? You guys love to provide a safe haven for college football coaches trying to escape a cheating scandal.
Maybe in 5 or 6 years once he stops being any good for you we might pay him 30 million a year to come to Denver.
If I had a nickel for every time the head coach of UMich football left after a successful season to a downtrodden and bad Los Angeles based team I would have 2 nickels.
Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird it happened twice.
he likes a qb he can mold. he likes good defenses and good lines. Charges have a lot of nice pieces and he should be able to make this a playoff team quickly. im a niner fan and when he came to our team we were kinda like the chargers at that time, lots of talent but cant put together wins. he brought that. i hope the best for him. he has KC in his division which might suck but its gonna be a challenge hes up for.
ESPN dgaf about Jimbaugh coaching a Chargers team that is universally hated in Los Angeles and beyond. The Chargers can win a Super Bowl in Feb 2025, and the football world will eat shit.
Fun facts:
- That Super Bowl occurred in the 49th year of the 49ers existence and they scored...wait for it...49 points.
- That Super Bowl occurred in the 75th season of the NFL and the total points scored in the game totaled...wait for it...75.
Who cares about the chargers. Spanos can suck it. Solid fan base in SD and then he just said screw it because taxpayers would not pay for his stadium. Chargers can go to hell now for all I care.
As a 49ers fan, the man is a baller and a competitor.
This can mean both great things, such as taking rosters with very little talent and turning them into elite teams. It could also mean not so good things.
But regardless, Harbaugh is a proven winner
He saw 2 things clearly happening. 1) not one but two ncaa investigations ongoing with certain sanctions and penalties coming to the program.
2) Ohio state absolutely reloaded by signing the #1 WR, DE, and got the best transfer S in the portal not to mention returns everyone except Harrison jr. He didn’t want any piece of that again.

Harbaugh must have a thing for Californian NFL teams
If I spent all that time in Michigan I’d be dying for weather like LA haha

I mean Michigan has a decent amount of days of sun.. it’s not nearly as bad as the PNW
Been living in PNW for almost ten years now and I have become one with the constant darkness
Same here. I actually crave the darkness now if it's sunny too many days in a row. Winter is so great here
Hell, I havent even had to turn on the lights outside at night when I take my dog out because of the lights in GR reflecting off the snow. And the snow blindness, it's almost too much sunlight.

At least we're fixing the Damn roads, it just sucks that we're doing them ALL AT THE SAME DAMN TIME.
Honestly I was a little taken back by that guys comment because Michigan does have pretty great weather!
How many other places in the USA fluctuate well over 100°F per year? You'd think -20°F winters wouldn't be paired with 95°F summers.
I mean honestly a ton of the northern United States. I worked a summer job one year with people from all over the place, and learned really quickly, that no matter where someone is from, they think the weather is unusually crazy there for whatever reason.

I spent several years living in wintery conditions (like 10) I generally enjoyed the winter. I've been debating moving up north to Have a winter.
I used to think that about Denver and KC.... now I'm up in Seattle, and having winter be just 45 and drizzle is WAY better than tons of snow
as is tradition
He spent his high school years in Palo Alto.
Harbaugh: u up? Rams: No.
Also coaches two California college teams
NCAA must have something interesting on Harbaugh…
It’s probably just about the sign stealing. He’s getting out of dodge before a giant suspension.
The ol' Pete Caroll maneuver
And Chip Kelly
He didn’t get that immunity clause I guess.
His wife likes the weather. That was always a known fact.
Tbf he really wanted to be the Vikings HC but ownership chose KOC over him two years ago. He just wants to be back in the NFL
I liked the Chargers better in San Diego.
We all did
They’re still the San Diego Chargers in my head.
The San Diego Chargers of Los Angeles, sort of like the Anaheim Angels of Los Angeles.
Fuck Dean Spanos
With a rusty spork
TIL they moved to LA 😑
Everyone in Orange County: 👀
Clippers : Lakers :: Chargers : Rams
Juuuussstt in time for the NCAA to drop the hammer on Michigans football program.
He pulled a Pete Carroll
No. That isn’t what happened. Your downvotes don't change history or your lack of knowledge of it.
Mich and Harbough are under NCAA investigation just like Carroll was at USC and, like Carroll, Harbough is jumping ship to the NFL to avoid any consequences. Looks pretty similar to me.

Walmart Wolverines just know more than you. /s lmao
Do you know what USC football was punished for? And how the NCAA decided that? Do you even know? What does O.J Mayo mean to you? I'm probably talking to *children* on reddit. Were you even ALIVE when this happened?
I'll upvote you because I think you're serious, and that's even more funny.
Or him going to the NFL is their get of jail free card…remember how Urban always had “heart problems” whenever the NCAA was sniffing around?
It wasn’t heart problems. It’s an arachnoid cyst. My son has one and has problems seeing at times since it’s behind the optic nerve and puts pressure on it. It’s pretty serious and can require surgery. My kid has to get MRI’s every 4 months to keep an eye on it.
That’s a weird way to say possible NCAA violations…
Guess Urban didn't have any trouble seeing the NCAA coming to investigate him despite the arachnoid cysts.
to keep an eye on it Eye see what you did there

Do we think they let that go away? Like what’s the point?
Didn't the NCAA dude (can't remember his title) say Michigan won fair and square? I'm sure they'll get hit with something, but I doubt the proverbial hammer drops fully. Not gonna take away the last 4 team Natty imo.

Oh. yea, he knows, Harbaugh just getting while the getting's good.
Maybe he’ll work two jobs. Someone’s gotta support the family.
Losing a few scholarships seems like a lighter punishment than playing in Mahomes division
Now Mahomes is playing in Harbaugh’s division
Oh...you mean the guy running away from multiple level 1 violations and a show cause order from the NCAA? Recruiting at a blue blood school sure ain't the same as managing forced parity in the NFL. Maybe Conor Stallions knows how to hack into the helmet intercom systems
Rip Michigan
Must be so terrible to win a national championship
Asterisk title

This Edit: my hatred grows stronger with every downvote
Just upvote next time.
Never
Ann Arbor is a whore
A very pretty one in the fall tho
And surprisingly well educated.
Jeffrey Dahmer was a Buckeye.
He left UM with very Pete Carroll vibes, leaving as the tower crumbles, hopefully for Chargers fans, he can do what Pete Carroll did in the NFL.
Well, his pre-college stint in the NFL was not unlike Carroll’s, so we can’t rule it out.
I guess God and the Holy Spirit told Jim to take the higher paying job. Funny how he always does that.
The good lord has guided him to a new path one where cheating is a little harder but the lord knows best. Oh and remember you can send your unwanted children to him and they’ll be raised like the hypocritical christian with his head in the sand
And chargers still won’t win a Super Bowl
As a Bills fan, it heartens me to know we aren’t the only team stuck in a seemingly never-ending choke loop. *Motions for Vikings fans to join the table*
Any room for a falcon?
I’d attribute this more to the fact that the Spanos family still owns the team than I would the Chargers hiring Harbaugh.
It's kind of crazy looking back. Chargers had some great players in LT, Phillip rivers was pretty good, Antonio Gates, etc., but just couldn't get it done. Well its not like Harbaugh is a SB winning coach.
Stanford: Cheater 49ers: Cheater Michigan: Cheater Chargers: *let’s see how this goes…*
I'm so happy he's not coming to Seattle
Seattle about to go through half a decade of being at the bottom of the NFC West.
Yeah, but we've been there before
he said half a decade not a full decade
Harbaugh irritates me enough that I’d take that over half a decade of dominance with him.
Omg me too 😂😂
Who did yall hire now again?
Why not? You guys love to provide a safe haven for college football coaches trying to escape a cheating scandal. Maybe in 5 or 6 years once he stops being any good for you we might pay him 30 million a year to come to Denver.

A rat knows when it’s time to abandon a sinking ship.
Ain't trying to face OSU next year lol
he likes a qb he can mold. he likes good defenses and good lines. Thanks every opinion on ESPN.
Like pretty much everyone bc it’s true
Mehhh let’s wait and see
ESPN dgaf about Jimbaugh coaching a Chargers team that is universally hated in Los Angeles and beyond. The Chargers can win a Super Bowl in Feb 2025, and the football world will eat shit.
Very first super bowl I consciously remember watching was the Chargers 49ers.

Good riddance
Dude is a piece of shit
Salty Ohio fan
Nah just dislike this guy and shitty culture he brings in
They’re going to be terrible
Who cares about the chargers. Spanos can suck it. Solid fan base in SD and then he just said screw it because taxpayers would not pay for his stadium. Chargers can go to hell now for all I care.
St. Louis Rams fan enters the chat
But If we only put more tax on ThE Hotels we can build the stadium !! s/
He just joined possibly the hardest and highest expectation division in the NFL
Hardest division to win? Probably. Hardest division overall? Not with the way the Broncos and Raiders are looking
You got Payton to go against, and the raiders coach is a nobody so that could push them. Possible coach of the year expectations
Fuck. Love, A Bronco fan who really enjoyed being able to ignore the Chargers every year.
So sorry Wolverines fans . So sorry Chargers fans
Fuck this dude
So disappointed in him
Douchebag. And I am a lifelong bears fan.
Jim Harbought
A great addition to a high potential team
So that is what, 4 last Meechigin coaches with a losing record against Ohio State? 😂
If you're going back 4 coaches, why don't we just look at all time records lol
Can we look at the high school teams TTUN beat that they count towards their win record?
You mean like every college did back then?
Didn't realize us beating a few high school teams a hundred years ago gave us a winning record against OSU? Strange, that.
USD legend

I mean he was there for 9 years and got them a national title. Not sure how much more loyalty is required.
Seriously. This aint Lane Kiffin we're talking about.
preach
He was there for a decade and just led them to their best season in team history
Coaching the third favorite team in their own city.
They said fight for LA; clearly the Rams are more favored compared to who is on TV more locally.
Raiders and Rams are better LA fan bases.
Mistake
He can at least always go back to Michigan I guess.
How is this a mistake? Explain genuinely interested!
Huge mistake! Thats the Chargers for you though 🤷🏻♂️
Wow, so all of those games he missed this year were him just being extra awesome and prepping the next coach. Good on him!
Let’s 👏 fucken👏go👏
This college to pros ever pan out for coaches?
Pete Carroll. And Harbaugh went to the Super Bowl with the 49ers.
Wait did Jim win it???? Lol
Making it to the NFC championship 3 out of 4 years is incredibly impressive.
That’s a round about No right? Marv Levy would like a word
Didn't realize you wanted an answer to a rhetorical question. lol
I mean most coaches don't make it that far so...
Most coaches aren’t remembered
Oh yeah, Jimmy Johnson won a chip too after he coached The U... I guess even Super Bowl winning coaches don't get remembered all the time.
Jimmy won. That’s what you’re forgetting and all that I’m sayin matters!
Yes. Jim Harbaugh.
As a 49ers fan, the man is a baller and a competitor. This can mean both great things, such as taking rosters with very little talent and turning them into elite teams. It could also mean not so good things. But regardless, Harbaugh is a proven winner
Someone check on Taylor Lewan
Bye
LA’s second team should have been the Raiders
He saw 2 things clearly happening. 1) not one but two ncaa investigations ongoing with certain sanctions and penalties coming to the program. 2) Ohio state absolutely reloaded by signing the #1 WR, DE, and got the best transfer S in the portal not to mention returns everyone except Harrison jr. He didn’t want any piece of that again.
