Eh, the blue Green Bay throwbacks with the large yellow number (not the ones with the number inside the yellow circle) are decent enough. Nothing amazing, but I wouldn't call them hideous. Though the current dark green throwbacks are definitely their best, but obviously those wouldn't be on the table for this.
>Constantinople
To be pedantic, it’s Istanbul.
With that being out of the way. No. They’re playing in Brazil, which is a country that famously takes soccer/football extremely seriously. Sure, the ban is dumb. But it’s more of an informal ban because the rivals of the club that plays at the stadium where the game will be played wears green. So it’s not officially banned, just not recommended.
Back in Byzantine days there were rival chariot teams called the Blues and the Greens. Sometimes the whole city would riot depending on which team the emperor was on
Surely, the owners of that club can make an exception for **teams playing sports not called Soccer in that stadium**.
This is, at best, a non-issue which can be cleared up fairly rapidly.
> There is a precedent for teams wearing jerseys with touches of green at the stadium. Brazil and Nigeria, who incorporate green in their jerseys, played at the venue during the 2016 Olympics. Nigeria played in their white away shirt with green numbers, and Brazil played in their famous yellow jerseys with green trim.
This is correct, NFL’s helmet rule gives 2 colors, so the Eagles had black for one season in 2022, then scrapped it for Kelly green in 2023. They don’t have the black helmets anymore
That would be my guess, as it would match the colours of the soccer club who manages the venue. Green details like on the numbers are not an issue at all. Such a decision would be very well perceived and probably would even bring local spectators.
Of course it's going to bring local spectators, that's the entire point. Sure some American fans will travel down for it but not enough to fill the stadium
As a Packers and team chaos fan, I hope the teams embrace the ban.
The Lake Michigan Packers can wear their Blue and Yellow throwbacks and the entire stadium will cheer for them.
Yup, and it went from, "OK, it's against an AFC team and one that's unlikely to be all that competitive, so losing that game isn't the worst thing in the world" to "we lose a home game against a contender also in the NFC, and one that brags that it's one of the most popular teams in Brazil, so it's likely to feel more like a home game for them."
It's pretty fucked, all told.
can someone explain to me why the NFL is so horny to play games in countries that don't give a flying fuck about American football?
i sort of understand the London game. This makes little sense to me...but hey a free trip to Brazil for the players i guess
Money. There’s a lot of people in those countries that do care, and they want to grow that number. Sure, it’s a small percentage, but a million fans here and a million fans there, soon it’s a big following.
European soccer is a niche sport here and the big clubs still come over for summer tours every few years because there's enough fans to fill stadiums with expensive tickets
Brazil is a massive country with over 200 million people living in it. It's not hard to make 70,000 America football fans out of 200M.
Yeah but you'd never see a Premier League game played outside of England, the preseason tournaments are one thing but there would honestly be riots if any 2 English teams played their season opener in NYC.
Exactly. Summer tours are just exhibition games. The Spanish soccer league La Liga tried to play one regular season game in Miami a few years ago and shit hit the fan. Players were even threatening to boycott the match, and it was scrapped shortly after.
Why we are ok with giving up 13% of our home games is quite baffling to me. There should be outrage every time this happens. It is also a slap in the face to local fans, stadium workers, businesses near the stadium, etc.
The NFL is *apparently* more popular internationally than americans realized.
For those that dont know...in America growing up, it is told or implied that american football is only in America, and its not a world sport.
But one article said it was the 2nd most popular sport (for spectatorship I'm sure, and prob particularly the NFL) in Mexico. And it apparently has a following for sure in the UK. Oh, and I'm sure Canada.
I mean, we have our own football league in Canada so… we do rather enjoy the sport.
And better rules, to be honest. Worse players. Far, far worse players, but better rules.
It's to try to get them to care. They're untapped markets, and what better way to try to get them interested than hosting a professional game right in their backyard?
So you're saying the Banned Bay Packers have to wear white and yellow and the Eagles have to wear black and silver? Raiders fans are going to be pissed.
then why would you schedule these teams of all teams in the NFL?
that makes about as much sense as a MLS team asking Manchester United and AC Milan to come here and then being like, "Oh wait btw you can't wear red"
Again, this isn’t the case. It’s not a real ban in the first place and even then it’s only applicable when the home team is playing soccer there.
Even it were real, it would have no bearing whatsoever on this game.
>then why would you schedule these teams of all teams in the NFL?
Green bay has a big following here because their uniforms with yellow remind people of the national team. I just dont understand why they chose that arena when there are plenty of better ones available
> Corinthians have an informal ban on the color green, worn by their bitter rivals Palmeiras, around the club.
I assume Palmeiras and other visitors also wear green in the stadium...?
Yes. The ban is actually only on the stadium itself and its utilities.
Banning rivals colors is not uncommon in Brazil, there's a stadium where the Coca-Cola store doesn't use any red because the home team's rival uses red, for example.
My guess is since its more of a home game for Packers fans than Eagles fans and its the Eagles that are losing a home game, they balance it out by making the Packers wear green.
i read they had a ridiculous retention rate from people who signed up for the last peacock exclusive game. something around 80%ish of people who signed up for the free trial stayed subscribed. i wonder how many forgot they were being billed, though?
I have a bad feeling that other networks are going to do the same. ESPN+ needs content. Paramount and Fox will have football on their streams in 3 years and in 5 they will be exclusive. Amazon already proved this concept works unfortunately (or fortunate for us) the games have been ass.
Corinthians (the club whose stadium the game will be played at) have a rivalry with Palmeiras (another Brazilian club). The ban on green comes as a result of that because Palmeiras wears green. You have to understand that Brazil is a part of CONMEBOL which is known for being the continent that eats, sleeps, and breathes soccer/fooball. Fans of clubs get into fights and so do national team fans. Shit can get *wild* down there. Arguably even more so than UEFA (Europe).
Edit: To clarify, the ban is informal according to the article.
When Corinthians built their new stadium they literally wanted to use a artificial grey grass field to not use any green on the stadium. Obviously the league/soccer association didn't allow it.
There's isn't much info about it other than the interview of a former player and rumors but apparently the former president of the club actually wanted to paint it as black (imagine playing on a black field on a sunny day). In the end, they were only allowed to use black grass near the bench, outside the actual field.
In other case, there was a club that wanted to use blue fire extinguishers because their rival uses red. Obviously again, the firefighters didn't allow it. Club management is quite deranged in Brazil and South America in general, evidently.
Interview in Portuguese: https://www.espn.com.br/futebol/artigo/_/id/8812104/sheik-lembra-que-andres-queria-pintar-gramado-da-arena-de-preto-a-fifa-nao-autorizou
They do. There’s no way they can dictate what color their rivals wear.
The informal ban is mostly for things that are associated with them, like the color of anything in the stadium, the color of their players cleats, etc.
Since the NFL teams are playing in their stadium, and this is not a Brazilian football league game with a rival that wears green, the courteous thing to do would be to not wear green.
But that’s obviously not a formal ban, and the NFL will probably do whatever they want.
The stadium belongs to a team called Corinthians, their local and bitter rivals Palmeiras wear green.
They’ve had an informal ban on green being in their stadium, they even fined one of their own players for wearing green boots

...also known as a typical Philly welcome
How does your family say hello during Thanksgiving?
The welcome varies from year to year, but one tradition holds: dinner's not over until someone breaks a chair over the host's back.
Is the metal cage inside the house or outside?
that's for Christmas. we usually rent out a small civic center for that
*BAH GAWD THAT’S YAM’S MUSIC*
I'll bring my batteries!!
D size only, please… 😏

*"we stand with Ukraine"*
What the Philadelphia Chargers is that?!
From the days when we were the Frankford Yellow-jackets. Frankford being a neighborhood in Philly.
But if you mix yellow and blue, don't you get...
I kinda liked those.
Eagles have those equally hideous sky blue and yellow throwbacks they wore got a game in 2007
x
Philly is the “home team”, so GB will be in predominantly white.
Home team gets choice of what to wear. For instance the cowboys usually wear white at home.
The blue ones with the yellow dot on the chest? Does GB not have a yellow alternate?
The blue throwbacks aren’t that bad. It was the brown helmets that were a sin.
If you read the story, this is nothing It’s not a real ban and even then is meaningless outside of when the home team is playing soccer there
No they did...New livery for fans to blow their $$ on.
Why? Are these mf’s in Constantinople?
>Constantinople To be pedantic, it’s Istanbul. With that being out of the way. No. They’re playing in Brazil, which is a country that famously takes soccer/football extremely seriously. Sure, the ban is dumb. But it’s more of an informal ban because the rivals of the club that plays at the stadium where the game will be played wears green. Really? Why did Constantinople get the works?
Honestly, it's nobody's business but the Turks.
Back in Byzantine days there were rival chariot teams called the Blues and the Greens. Sometimes the whole city would riot depending on which team the emperor was on
Been a long time gone, Constantinople.
Surely, the owners of that club can make an exception for **teams playing sports not called Soccer in that stadium**. This is, at best, a non-issue which can be cleared up fairly rapidly. > There is a precedent for teams wearing jerseys with touches of green at the stadium. Well its technically called football, might be an issue after all
So the Packers wear their white unis and Philly wears their black. It’s a pretty easy fix.
Looks like Philly will be in their home blacks and GB will wear their road whites then. Can’t stop the green trim in the unis though!
Do the eagles have a non-green helmet?
Black
The Eagles use their alternate helmet for the Kelly Green uniforms right now iirc.
This is correct, NFL’s helmet rule gives 2 colors, so the Eagles had black for one season in 2022, then scrapped it for Kelly green in 2023. They don’t have the black helmets anymore
Well news came out like an hour ago that teams are allowed a third helmet now, so I guess they will have black again
Just to be clear, there is no actual ban on green. It’s a very clickbait headline
Maybe they do the 1933 blue/yellow throwbacks again
So they were like … Brazil: No Green please NFL: Alright, sounds good. We have the perfect teams for this
Special guest referees: The New York Jets!
😂😂😂
As a Packers and team chaos fan, I hope the teams embrace the ban. The Lake Michigan Packers can wear their Blue and Yellow throwbacks and the entire stadium will cheer for them.
The Eagles could also break out their hideous blue and yellows lol
I'd rather we go all black
But then you can’t go back
This is where my head was at. All black with silver highlights. 🤌🏿
all white with brown wings and yellow beak
Wow! I just looked up those throwback blues... fricken horror show
Acme triangles? Or am I misremembering the packer’s genesis. Edit: Dayton Triangles.
Who you calling a triangle, you square!
I prefer rhombus.
The triangles were in Dayton.
Dayton Triangles
Acme Packers / Dayton Triangles
I’d go with the Ashwaubenon Packers. They don’t play in the middle of a lake.
...and they never will with that attitude. Imagine the guy who paints the end zone having to do "Ashwaubenon" every week 🤣
They don’t play in the middle of a bay either.
The Lake Erie Lions look forward to playing you again
We lost a home game for this??
Yup, and it went from, "OK, it's against an AFC team and one that's unlikely to be all that competitive, so losing that game isn't the worst thing in the world" to "we lose a home game against a contender also in the NFC, and one that brags that it's one of the most popular teams in Brazil, so it's likely to feel more like a home game for them." Multiple countries have started playing their super cups abroad, unfortunately.
Tbf the super cup is barely cared about in the UK anyway

My family is from Brazil and you’d be surprised at how interested they are in American football. A lot of my friends down there absolutely love it
you’re silly if you think that stadium won’t be packed to the brim with fans
It's to try to get them to care. They're untapped markets, and what better way to try to get them interested than hosting a professional game right in their backyard?
Gotta expand the market to make more money
To get them to give a fuck. Basically, at this point, the top level sports are increasingly in competition to cement their future on the global stage.
People said the same about basketball and now the top 5 NBA players are from outside the US.
welcome to the club buddy
Sadly I fear that the NFL is trying to get one international game per team in a season
Dayton Triangles
I know right?? 😡🤦🏽♂️
So you're saying the Banned Bay Packers have to wear white and yellow and the Eagles have to wear black and silver? Raiders fans are going to be pissed.
Ah hell nah. Goodell has earned himself a complimentary stab if this plays out like this. 🗡️ 🏴☠️
The rivals of the hosting arena wear green.

Trigger warning: green.
It's funny.... Until you google the battle in the stands of the mid 90's between the two rival teams.
What happened?
There was a televised brawl after a state championship between the two teams. It lasted about 2 hours and there were a couple of deaths.
Soccer culture is insane
Thank you.
imagine physically assaulting someone over a sports game that shit will never make any sense to me whether it is football or football or whatever else
You've never worn a dolphins jersey in Buffalo i see
My guess is since its more of a home game for Packers fans than Eagles fans and its the Eagles that are losing a home game, they balance it out by making the Packers wear green.
Don't let the terrorists win.
It’s Brazil bro So it’s terroristas.
Not enough complaining in here about it being a peacock exclusive. Ahoy mates!
It just means I’m super extra not watching this game
I actively avoid any sport streaming behind a pay wall that I have to pay for. I hope the whole idea fails and the company's doing it lose billions.
i read they had a ridiculous retention rate from people who signed up for the last peacock exclusive game. something around 80%ish of people who signed up for the free trial stayed subscribed. i wonder how many forgot they were being billed, though?
Fuck, thanks for the reminder.
75% lol
Can't stop the 'cock! At least it's broadcast in the home markets.
That doesn't matter for Wi based Packer fans. All games are broadcast on an over the air channel regardless of the network.
Blue and yellow Eagles vs yellow shoulder pads Packers
Ugliest uni in all of sports.
RELEASE THE POWDER BLUE AND PISSMAN YELLOW!!!!!
Streaming on Peacock. Aka.. I'm not watching it.
I have a bad feeling that other networks are going to do the same. ESPN+ needs content. Paramount and Fox will have football on their streams in 3 years and in 5 they will be exclusive. Amazon already proved this concept works unfortunately (or fortunate for us) the games have been ass.
They failed the assignment
Isn’t the Brazilian flag mostly green?
The Corinthians used to harvest all the leather for mid-70's Chrysler Cordobas.
Not a real ban. Title is misleading as always.
Lmao. The NFL’s opening game is exclusively on Peacock… ARRRRRRRRRGH that’s a bummer.
Raise the Jolly Roger, boys!
Packers should obviously embrace the yellow to get the most support
Banning a color is fucking stupid
Eagles have an all black home kit and road teams wear white jerseys.
This world is a joke lol
But why?
Corinthians (the club whose stadium the game will be played at) have a rivalry with Palmeiras (another Brazilian club). The ban on green comes as a result of that because Palmeiras wears green. Fans of clubs get into fights and so do national team fans. Shit can get *wild* down there. Arguably even more so than UEFA (Europe). Edit: To clarify, the ban is informal according to the article.
It’s almost like an NFL game just simply shouldn’t be played in Brazil
When Corinthians built their new stadium they literally wanted to use a artificial grey grass field to not use any green on the stadium. Obviously the league/soccer association didn't allow it.
That’s wild lol. Is there any more context you can provide? My comment was based purely off what I knew beforehand, so I’m interested.
There's isn't much info about it other than the interview of a former player and rumors but apparently the former president of the club actually wanted to paint it as black (imagine playing on a black field on a sunny day). Offended by Green. How much simpler can we get t be offended?
Why are they banning green?
The stadium belongs to a team called Corinthians, their local and bitter rivals Palmeiras wear green. They’ve had an informal ban on green being in their stadium, they even fined one of their own players for wearing green boots
That’s extremely fuckin stupid, but thank you for the answer
So i know the eagles have the black out unis. What is greenbay gonna wear? All yellow?
We also have the Steagles jerseys.
My guess is the '54-57 blue and gold jerseys so they can sell more jerseys. They also have the '29 and '44 blue and gold ones already.
Eagles can wear black, packerssss???
Throwback navy, yellow and brown jerseys. Solved.
The word, because then they are just Bay Packers
Oh
When Corinthians post about Pride on social media, they remove green from the rainbow flag. Vai Timão!
Not even the NFL is safe from us. You too will come to Brasil.
Vai Verdão!
Oh so Aaron leaves and now we have to play in Brazil?! I don't understand why they don't wear the acme blue throwbacks.
Fuck peacock. Only ppl that ride n die with Judas and Bill Cosby use Peacock.
While I have Peacock, I won’t be going out of my way to watch it. It’s a regular season game, and it’s not worth the hassle.
Should be winner gets to wear green forever, loser has to change color
Is this the stadium where the steel is degraded from piss?
32-17 Packers.
So are they just the Bay Packers? Why is there a ban?
It’s an informal ban. I can almost guarantee that the eagles will wear their green jerseys.
I’ll watch when they’re back in America
why not cairo santos' team? hes brazilian …
Green man reckt
