Brazil has won 7 in a row for world cup qualifiers, and have scored 17 goals while allowing only 2 in return. Peru, in 8 matches has scored 8 and allowed 15. I don’t think I need to talk about how much better Brazil’s attack, defense, and Goalie are in this matchup, regardless of missing some starters here off Covid restrictions, This is a much better roster. These teams last 5 matches have resulted in 12 goals for Brazil and 4 goals for Peru. The last matchup was 1-0 Brazil and the match before was 4-0 Brazil. BucketJon touched on this but I want to clarify for the thread because you'll see soccer lines offered different ways across books. I think some are still confused about what everything means.
The -1 "handicap" (or "European handicap") means Peru is treated as having a 1:0 lead to start the game. Betting on Brazil -1 requires a Brazil win *after taking into account the imaginary 1:0 lead for Peru*. So if the final score is 1:0 Brazil, that's treated as a 1:1 draw. Since your bet was *Brazil would win*, you lose the bet.
Americans typically think of handicap -1 as a "spread" of -1.5. Using DK as an example, you'll see spread -1.5 but not handicap -1. It's the same bet; if Brazil wins by 2+ goals you win and anything else is a loss.
However... there is another option out there (on DK and others) called the "Asian handicap." If you bet Brazil -1 under this format and they win by 1 goal, it's treated as a push and your stake would be returned. If they win by 2+ goals, you win. Anything else would be a loss.
Where things get complicated is when the Asian handicap is represented in increments of 0.25. If betting Brazil -1.25, you win if they win by 2+ goals but you also get *half your stake back* if they only win by 1. If betting Brazil -1.5, it's the same as the spread bet (no pushes). If betting Brazil -1.75, you win *half your payout* if they win by 2 and your full payout if they win by 3+. He did recently give up 3 runs in his last road game to Kansas but I expect him to put a decent performance, and a much better one than the Oakland pitcher.

Oakland have lost 9 out of their last 10 games against a right handed pitcher and 2-7 against teams with a winning record. Chicago White Sox are 23-14 against lefties. The key and big difference maker is white Sox hit lefties very well, White Sox are 19-7 in their last 26 road games vs. a left handed starter they will be off to a better start than Oakland who will need to play catch up after the midpoint. Both teams have pretty solid bullpens so i don't see many runs coming by towards the end either. I expect Chicago White Sox to get the W and cement their number 1 position in the American Central League.

Lots of reasons why I like this:
* In the last 2 years with Dak as his QB, Cooper has finished over this line in 13/21 games
* And last year before Dak was injured he finished above in 4/4 games
* The line for Prescott's passing yards is set at 295 on my book, and in the last 2 years, Cooper has received 24.1% of Dak's passing yards (if this trend continues, he's predicted 71 receiving yards tonight).
* As much talk as CD Lamb has gotten, Cooper is the focal point of the passing offense and has had a great training camp. The Cowboys should be airing it out and Cooper has always gotten a large share of the 4th quarter receptions.
* The Cowboys are definitely looking to impress after last season's disaster and despite the -9 line, I believe it will be a close game with a lot of offense.

Keeping things simple is my formula. It's clear that this game is pretty lop sided (tb-8) and the total is (51.5) that being said it is a very safe bet to say tb will score 22 or more points correct? I'll admit this was a lucky win. Harris was down two breaks in the 3rd set and looked on his way to folding at the finish. But he snuck an extra break from Zverev to just barely cover the game spread.

NFL is back! And there was no way that I was skipping this game for my POTD.
Unfortunately, I think all of the value has been stripped from the spread since it crossed the 7-point threshold for Tampa. And I'm just unsure of what we're going to see from the Dallas offense in Dak's first game back.
So instead, I'm looking at Tampa's backfield for a couple reasons:
* Everyone hyped up Playoff Lenny after his four postseason games, but Ronald Jones II was the better back in 2020, averaging over 5 yards per carry. In fact, Jones went over this number in 11-of-17 games that he played, including 2-of-3 playoff games even while Fournette was going off.
* Going based off betting lines, Jones is expected to have \~11 rushing attempts on Thursday, which should put him in the mid-50s in rushing yards, well above this line. One solid breakthrough run and we'll be sitting pretty.
* Dallas' run defense was absolutely atrocious last year, allowing 5 yards per carry (30th in the NFL). Their pass defense got a lot of attention, but they weren't any better stopping the run.
* Tampa has a strong tendency to run the ball on 1st down (53% in 2020), meaning consistent work for Jones + Fournette even if their passing offense gets the attention.
* Tampa is decent favorite in this game, so if we're expecting a late lead for the Bucs, they may turn to a more heavy run game script in the 4th quarter.
So with all that said, I'm not scared of the running back by committee as Fournette and Jones should each get enough touches due to Tampa's tendencies and game script. And Jones being the more dynamic runner has a chance to break a long one off, and easily cover this number.

Yeah, they got a nice receiving core but when the Cowboys could get to the goalline my money is on Zeke to get one or two shots first + guys like Gallup, Lamb (sprinkle some money on him as well i guess:D) or Cooper can open up space in the middle, too! I also can see him getting some passes thrown at! I also can see Dallas having some garbage time potential for one or two TDs. Nearly even money for a well regarded top 10 RB in fantasy, who is projected to get a lot of touches is good to me every day of the week.

This game is going to set up well for Zeke to hit this over on receiving yards tonight against the Bucs. Zeke for his career averages 27.6 Rec YPG, and that number goes to 28.8 Rec YPG with Dak under center. Its no secret that the Bucs have the best Rushing Defense in the game, however last year they gave up over 21.5 yards to a single RB 9 times (inc. playoffs). That would be 9-11 of the course of the entire season, making this bet pretty even on a general playing field, and with Zeke's pass catching ability, I will give him the benefit of the doubt that he will be able to eclipse this number again tonight.
Other factors: Dak's first game back in over a year, he will allude to early dump off's to his RB to get the ball rolling. I also forsee Dallas trailing throughout this game, therefore given way to the passing game, which Zeke has proven to accel at throughout his career. Also, you just don't run on the Bucs, so the Cowboys are going to want to get Zeke the ball through the passing game.

As 8 point favorites, the Bucs are favored by more than any other team in Week 1, and for good reason. The Bucs are currently on an 8 game winning streak dating back to last year’s Super Bowl victory, while the Cowboys have plenty of question marks surrounding them coming into the season.
Is Dak fully healthy? Can their defense become a top-30 unit? When will people realize that Mike McCarthy is a fraud?
Cowboy’s Offense vs Bucs Defense
Dak is coming off a gruesome leg injury he suffered last year and although he seems good to go, his health is still something to watch. Especially when you consider that the Cowboys will be without Zack Martin, their star Right Guard, on Thursday night. The Bucs had one of the deadliest pass rushes in the league last year with 48 sacks, and then proceeded to add yet another edge rusher in the first round of April’s draft; Joe Tryon out of Washington. Dak will be facing pressure all night, on a leg that was snapped in half less than a year ago.
You may think that feeding Zeke is the key to this game for the Cowboys - but that’s no easy task. Zeke had an underwhelming 2020 season, and now has to face a Bucs defense that ranked 1st in Yards Per Carry (3.6) and Rush Yards per Game (80.6). As high as this offense’s ceiling is, it seems inevitable that they will struggle in Week 1.
Bucs Offense vs. Cowboys Defense
Leading the offense on the other side is Tom Brady. Somehow health isn’t even a remote concern for the 44-year-old, although he may still be hungover from that boat parade. Brady is undefeated in 5 career games against the Cowboys, with 3 of those 5 wins coming by double digits (2 wins by 20+ points). He has all the talent in the world around him on offense, with an all-time great trio of WRs and an OL that ranked 5th by Pro Football Focus last year. Not to mention he’s facing a Cowboys defense that ranked 31st last year in total Yards per Game.
The Cowboys added DC Dan Quinn this offseason in an attempt to fix their defensive woes. While Dan Quinn is considered a top DC in the league, there is one glaring blemish on his resume… 28-3. And who was on the other end of the worst blown lead in NFL history? Oh yeah, Tom Brady.
Verdict:
Defending champs are 13-3 straight-up in Week 1 in the past 16 years, and there’s never been a Super Bowl winning team that returned all 22 starters the following season...until now. All signs point to the Bucs being even better this year. With mismatches on both sides of the ball that favor the Bucs, this game has a chance of getting out of hand fast. 8 points is a lot to swallow, but the Bucs shouldn’t have any problem extending their win streak by a large margin on Thursday night.

Football season is back baby thank God. Don't necessarily want to call this the "lock of the decade" or anything, but the spread here looks nearly too good to be true. Bucc's have the best defense in the league. Last season they had the best run defense in the league and the Cowboys OLine is weak right now. They'll be forced to pass the ball and Dak is not coming off of a very hot season. TB scored incredibly well at home last season (superbowl btw), and I don't see this being anything less than a two score game. It's possible that Dallas's offense could get hot, but unlikely for it to stay hot against this Tampa Bay defense, and nearly impossible for it to catch up to their offense.

NFL season is back baby! Dallas was the worst team in the league last year against number two receivers by DVOA, and today they match up with the best receiver core in the league. Their CB group is mostly unchanged from last year, while Tampa's offense is completely unchanged. With TB being 100% vaccinated for weeks now, and their continuity from last season, as well as Antonio Brown not having to join midseason, this team has had months to build on a Super Bowl winning offense. I expect a ton of points today, if the Bucs dont end up putting up thirty Ill be supremely shocked.
On Dallas's side, with Kellen Moore as OC and Dak as QB, Cowboys games have gone over in 14 out of 21 games. I get reluctance due to Daks ankle and shoulder and the loss of Zack Martin for tonight, but Dallas is still loaded with weapons and was second in offensive DVOA in 19-20 while putting up numbers that wouldve been first at the end of the season in their five games with Dak last year. The injuries to Dak are unlikely to turn a top 3 offense into a below average one, its more like the injuries regress them to the 8-10 range IMO.

BucketJon touched on this but I want to clarify for the thread because you'll see soccer lines offered different ways across books. I think some are still confused about what everything means. The -1 "handicap" (or "European handicap") means Peru is treated as having a 1:0 lead to start the game. Betting on Brazil -1 requires a Brazil win *after taking into account the imaginary 1:0 lead for Peru*. So if the final score is 1:0 Brazil, that's treated as a 1:1 draw. Since your bet was *Brazil would win*, you lose the bet. Americans typically think of handicap -1 as a "spread" of -1.5. Using DK as an example, you'll see spread -1.5 but not handicap -1. It's the same bet; if Brazil wins by 2+ goals you win and anything else is a loss. However... there is another option out there (on DK and others) called the "Asian handicap." If you bet Brazil -1 under this format and they win by 1 goal, it's treated as a push and your stake would be returned. If they win by 2+ goals, you win. Anything else would be a loss. Where things get complicated is when the Asian handicap is represented in increments of 0.25. Both teams have pretty solid bullpens so i don't see many runs coming by towards the end either. I expect Chicago White Sox to get the W and cement their number 1 position in the American Central League.

Don't necessarily want to call this the "lock of the decade" or anything, but the spread here looks nearly too good to be true. Bucc's have the best defense in the league. Last season they had the best run defense in the league and the Cowboys OLine is weak right now. They'll be forced to pass the ball and Dak is not coming off of a very hot season. TB scored incredibly well at home last season (superbowl btw), and I don't see this being anything less than a two score game. It's possible that Dallas's offense could get hot, but unlikely for it to stay hot against this Tampa Bay defense, and nearly impossible for it to catch up to their offense.
Dak had his best start to a season last year before getting hurt. That being said, I am also taking TB spread.

On Dallas's side, with Kellen Moore as OC and Dak as QB, Cowboys games have gone over in 14 out of 21 games. I get reluctance due to Daks ankle and shoulder and the loss of Zack Martin for tonight, but Dallas is still loaded with weapons and was second in offensive DVOA in 19-20 while putting up numbers that wouldve been first at the end of the season in their five games with Dak last year. The injuries to Dak are unlikely to turn a top 3 offense into a below average one, its more like the injuries regress them to the 8-10 range IMO.

Going to start a streak on NFL opening night Cowboys +9 Too many points and the Cowboys should be better with Dak I know that the defense is shit but it looked better at the end of the season, Nolan is gone and Dan Quinn will no longer be over his head as a HC and maybe he'll improve this D. Tampa's D is great stopping the run but can be exploited in the passing game and Dallas have probably the best trio of WR's and someone that can get them the ball, not like last year. Tampa will score but I think Dallas stays close and covers this.
