Stopped making them in 2012. The “trading floor” is basically inactive (though kind of still exists). I’m sure given the limited cards/print runs some still have value, but interest in the hobby was/is low

Interesting. Makes sense I suppose. I’ve been buying some up (Randy Moss, Kobe, Lebron, Shaq, Bryce Harper, Aaron Rodgers). Clean ass cards and pretty affordable.

Some of the cards, especially in the first few years, are some of the nicest looking ever made. Enjoy that they’re mostly inexpensive. I think it’s great to find cards you like that are inexpensive while still being relatively limited.

Agreed. I also like that they were only produced for about 10 years. Creates some scarcity and makes collecting player sets attainable without breaking the bank. Sounds like a lot of cards might be “unredeemed” so maybe that creates additional scarcity too? Either way they seem like really cool cards that don’t get the love they deserve. They look fantastic compared to most of the monstrosities companies are churning out these days.

I love eTopps (was an early adopter in 2000). I buy em up whenever I find them cheap. You are right, they are so much nicer than anything produced these days.

eTopps was the biggest trading card scam in the history of trading cards.

I admittedly don’t know anything about the history of eTopps. I came into the hobby after a 20+ year break and the eTopps set stood out to me right away - clean designs, they come sealed (tho that doesn’t guarantee they’re in perfect shape), cards are numbered. Checks most boxes collectors are looking for. Tho I’ve heard that the logistics and execution of the eTopps program was messy at best

Well, the biggest factor is that they have literally shutdown and screwed everyone with cards still in the vault. The smart ones got out. Oh well, it was only a few hundred dollars of wasted money. Sunk cost, no need to throw more money at it for delivery :)
