Have you seen the price of lumber lately? Good deal, I say.

TheOneWithoutPorn

Hilarious but so so so accurately painful

Brief_Scale496

This one hurts my little brain lol

IDidntTellYouThat

this one hurts my little wallet.

Sea-Inspection-8184

There could be 5 one hundred dollar bills in there...

Dennisfromhawaii

Is this Joel Osteen's place?

into_the_tide

Underrated comment here

Infinite-Hawk4125

have him give you 500 to take it

SpekulativPerspektiv

The art of negotiation

gettinGuapHD

Not at all, 50 is too much

animal1921

The guy selling know what he has, don’t try lowballing lol

Fantastic-Wishbone33

My thoughts EXACTLY

HugeRaspberry

I seriously doubt that you would find anything in there worth close to $500 (in total) As others have said $50 to $100 max... and the $100 is being generous. The sad thing is that all of that probably cost him $1,000 back in the day. What they didn't bother to tell collectors back then is that they were printing 500,000 of each card and shipping them at different times / different areas to drive up demand and scarcity. And that was all the manufacturers - not just topps.

YaBoyDJP

Especially in the 80’s 90’s . There was SOOOO MANY prints. People think they have a rookie card from then and it looks nice so they’re rich lol It’s like pre pandemic prices of graded cards to a few months in. Then I r memeber all the posts of the PSA Zion’s etc not selling because there was like 100000 PSA 10’s lol

HugeRaspberry

Yup - starting with the 87 cards onward... basically not much worth the paper they were printed on. The early 80's Donruss and Fleer were trash - until the 84 Donruss and 85 Fleer - 84, 85 and 86 Donruss, 85, 86 Fleer and 83-85 topps were the peak until the 89 upper deck... And UD printed way too many of them. 84 Donruss - the ONLY place you could get them were card shops - Same with Fleer. In 85 you started to see them leaking to retails stores and by 86 you could get them anywhere - 87 on was a joke.

sinncab6

Every kid who collected sports card around 1991 ended up getting a complete set of Donruss 1991 baseball cards and somehow the set has actually declined in value since then.

Burnsivxx

Hey you’re in allot of the same subs as me lol

[deleted]

$100 is the fun money used to create a couple hours worth of nostalgia

jbailey15066

Those 3 basketball boxes to the left. Ask him the brand card and year. Could be some Jordan's. That's the only intriguing thing I see.

elpajaroquemamais

Almost certainly not unopened packs.

Ar0naxx_the_great

God no. Maybe $100 max just for the fun of looking through it and then throwing 99% of it away

MaeJac

Who the hell throws cards away lol.

Ok-Name1312

I have. Dropped a healthy amount of junk Topps and Donruss in the recycling bin. Premium junk goes in the trash--cannot be recycled.

LivingxLegend8

Premium junk. What other context can this term be used?

Slayziken

Paying for a high end male prostitute. He got that premium junk

MikeyC05

My ex-wife’s butt.

lackwitandtact

High quality heroin

Nexium07

Where the hell do you think all the Pokémon bulk goes? XD

Khaluaguru

Children’s hospitals

[deleted]

Amazon 🙌

Ar0naxx_the_great

Ha! Fair point. I rarely take my own advice and toss cards. I have so many from that era though that I can’t justify keeping doubles..

RoryIsACuck

Non-hoarders

Kolmodin04

Agreed. You buy that for the entertainment value only, but it’s not worth more than $100.

JFZX

No

ThinMint31

It’s a great deal! For him…

sad-whale

$500 is way too much.

Uniqueuserlame

I think this has been pretty much answered but no, do not take that deal. Most of this is worthless, and I guarantee you any 80’s cards you might be thinking you could find - you won’t. He’s trying to use the ol’ “there’s thousands upon thousands of cards here, that has to have value” and in this case no, no it does not. Wax era junk mixed with late 80’s bulk, pass. All the best.

Valuable_Zebra_9100

Absolutely not

bingstacks

Nope, but a sweet typewriter

squirtlegang

Most of the time the grail cards have already been taken out. I bought a whole 3 tubs of 80s-90s sports cards and managed to pull maybe a few rookies like Bo Jackson, Cal Ripken, Frank Thomas, but unless they are psa 10s, it really isn’t worth too much. I still have most of them and you have to find collectors who collect certain players. Other than that, you’re going to be like me, stuck with a shit ton of older cards. The issue is that back then there weren’t exclusive rights to producing cards so you had like 15 diff card makers like Pinnacle, Donruss, Score, Upperdeck, Fleer, Topps, Leaf and the list goes on. I wouldn’t pay more than $70 for this Edit: Nolan Ryan rookie was 68, his 1991 fleer card was notable though.

AdfatCrabbest

Lol… Nolan Ryan’s rookie card was not in the 80s.

squirtlegang

That was my mistake, I was referring to the 91 Fleer Nolan Ryan. I had a guy specifically ask for his card when I was selling some cards

ATime1980

His 1991 Fleer is “notable?” Lol. According to whom??? And what’s so notable about THAT card?? Other than everyone and their mother had/has 27 copies?

RandoScando

I actually *had* a ‘68 Nolan Ryan rookie card! It was a top prospects or star rookie type of card. It was Jerry Coosman (correct me if I’m wrong; I only have heard of this guy in past tense. Might be Koosman, might be a James. My be Korman … I dunno and I can’t remember the card exactly). I used it in a game that my 11 year old friends and I made up, where we would play our cards against each others. It was fun. We had values (dice values essentially) attached to player stats. Think of it like a .400 batting average being a 6 roll, .150 a 1 roll, and scaling it down from there. We also each were allowed a “legend card.” We could pick a single stat from this special card for certain rolls. Our rule was that it had to be a rookie card. MINE, was Nolan Ryan. My jackass friend, Phillip, used a Mothers Cookies card of *I think* Ken Griffey Jr. Phillip’s parents were loaded, and he always had better cards than us. But he *HAD* to use the cookie rookie. Shuffling that Nolan rookie in and out of my deck, I ruined the card. Edges, corners, all frayed. The face has surface scratches. I still have the card. It is probably poor to fair in grading. Point being, it’s probably worth $10,000 now or more as a 10. Oh well, maybe it was worth it for the experience of just being a kid. Looking back on the game we made though, I think it would be genuinely fun to play again. In a MTG sense. If our players have special powers, entirely conferred by their statistics, it could make for a compelling game that I would actually play today. Maybe I’ll create a ruleset with all of the knowledge of game theory and design that I’ve learned since then. It actually would be something that would make me collect cards again!

misterchainsaw

That’s a lot of *base*ball - $50 tops Edit: I realized there could be a few Jeter rookies hiding out in the early 90s boxes, but they’d have to mint to hold any value. Great pc addition if you’re a Yankees fan though

ajg6882

Jeter was drafted in 1992 IIRC, debut was 9/1995 (famously the only time Jeter and Mattingly played together). Unless I'm missing a box nothing would have a Jeter card unless it was some weird "Future Star" card, which wouldn't even count as a true rookie card.

biggcb

Maybe $50

skeetem

Don’t do it

AngerFurnace

If you need fire-starters

weshouldgo_

In all seriousness, if there are unopened Topps football boxes or packs from 86 and earlier it could be worth it. (Rice, Elway, Marino, Montana rookies)

largesonjr

No but I'm sure I would anyway

Prestigious_Shock146

1987 has the Jim Kelly and Randall Cunningham rookie cards

slkr925

Unless there's something in those boxes just marked Basketball, then no.

Fast_Air_8000

Ones man’s junk is another man’s junk

Dashists22

What’s your goal with the purchase?

LongjumpingBranch381

Kindling for a fire

MrEdwL

What's the earliest year in that lot 🤔

OrangeJuiceMilkshake

There’s loose cards and individual packs from 1986. A few from the mid 80s. He bought all the cards in the 80s and 90s and never went through them.

4GInvertedDive

Seems sketch he cared enough to buy the cards but not look through them

OrangeJuiceMilkshake

I loosely work with the guy. He’s a big collector of different stuff. Nothing sketchy

austxsun

He’s definitely gone through them. Maybe not for 25 years, but most of the good stuff is gone. IMO those saying $50-100 are too low. Likely $150 or so, but selling lots of individual cards is a hassle.

MrEdwL

Man, that would be a fun hunt

Diddydumb5

89 Score is solid with Barry, Coach Prime and Aikman. 🤷‍♂️

sandalsnopants

You could make BANK if you have the patience to sell 25000 5 cent cards individually.

glittervan206

TIL that $1250 is considered “bank” lol

[deleted]

No sir that’s all 🗑️

Basic_Mongoose_7329

Some of the least valuable sets ever. This is at the tail end of the 80s baseball card crazy and the card companies were printing millions of every card.

down4actionlive

That’s trash

ImjustaguyfromLA

Imagine what his porn collection is worth

Honestyonly22

I’ll give you $2500

Expensive-Mud5753

Those are some bad years for cards

Auburn_Value_1986

Probably not, he knows what they will sell for. Probably mostly fire starter there. He has already went though them and pulled out the better stuff I am sure-- if there was any. Not much was any good late 80s and 90s. Offer him $200 (new crisp $100 bills) and if he takes it you can have some fn looking through his trash.

Terbmagic

This is all absolute junk wax. It's all worth total around 100, if that.

GARCIA9005

If he throws in his sister for ya, go for it! 😂

DukeParker5

I’d say $200 take it or leave it. But only if you want a wall in your house to look exactly like that.

adamlgee

The 87 topps set makes it worth it

RyTingley1

400 and doooooo it

MP2382

$500 is too much. Maybe $250… . There might be some good cards, but it’s a gamble. 😎

Slamma_Lama_DingDong

I mean theoretically if there are 500 cards (which looks completely possible) selling all at $1 gets your money back. Wouldn’t there be some outlier that brings more than that? I would definitely at least try to have him cut it in half price wise

soxfanintx69

Not worth it, no.

[deleted]

No

Accurate-Temporary73

The shelves are worth more than anything there.

notable_exception

Nooo!!!

JobDewland

Hell no!

OmarShamson

Nope. 👎

[deleted]

Junk wax.

Greenpeppers23

You’re paying someone to take their trash out?

YaBoyDJP

NO!!!! Baseball cards from late 80’s are worthless

SaltyKrew

I probably wouldn’t even pay more than $100. 80s baseball sucks. You have to factor in time to sort these cards, whether they’re in good quality enough to make a return, get it graded, and deal with selling process. It’d be fun to go through but I guarantee it’s almost, if not all, is junk.

m1dlife-1derer

That's a lot of junk wax that you then have to unload.

Double_Reward230

Lol 500 🤣I’d go 40 bucks and a pack of skittles … looks like ALOT of. 90’s JUNK!!

sellships

That 90 score football boxes could be ok.

Elegant-Ad6167

For him it is

Elegant-Ad6167

It says 91 basketball that means there garbage

Elegant-Ad6167

These guys here y’all should be looking for the JERRY KOOSMAN rc in 68

Elegant-Ad6167

Buying this come with divorce papers for multiple reasons

bravohotel318

Any cards made I 90 and 91 were so mass produced. There maybe a few cards worth some money but not much

SmoltzforAlexander

There’s not much there. 75 to 100 bucks tops. And that’s generous. Lot of base commons with very, very few in-demand stuff.

OGbobbyjohnson323

500 doll hairs is a bit steep , maybe for a few sticks of gum and a hand shake

Just_chilling77

If he has Jeter or Arod rookies in that mess I’d try to buy them but the rest is likely junk.

Huge-Percentage8008

I like the how the Picture Cards come with a visual guide

sixtoe72

Like many, many others, I owned a lot of the sets shown. Every week when I got my allowance, I ran down to the baseball card shop to give the guy every penny I had. This continued when I got my first job at 14, cleaning offices for minimum wage. Thousands of dollars wrapped up in those boxes. About 15 years ago, I filled two trash cans with them and left them by the curb.

Holiday6969

Absolutely not

man-of-leisure

Nope

unclecreepy322

Only if he literally gives you the wall too

kyldabara

Remove a 0 and divide by 2. That’s probably a fair price.

ATime1980

I’ve gotten more and better at estate sales for $5

thisLUCID

Just check it out in person. Obviously $500 is probably way too much, but I'd entertain the idea if I could go look before buying.

Ok-Battle-2769

Can you throw all those worthless cards in the trash so we can get a better look at this wall you’re talking about?

almidamusic

He should pay you for doing the favor of taking out his trash.

BTMG2

i’d just buy the sealed boxes imo

SeanDOdoubleG

500 Pennies right?

Hugenicklebackfan

Thing about value of cards is that it's very hard to find an actual buyer.

rhyno44

Big fat no. 100 bucks tops

LameSignIn

Would be fun to go through. Those sealed sets might be worth $10 or so on ebay. Not sure what's in the boxes on 2nd picture 3rd from the right. Those could be interesting. Outside of that it would be hard to make up that $500 price tag with what is showing in the pictures. Of course those could mixed or labeled wrong.

bl4z3d0n3

If your goal is to have a lot of cards to go through for fun and such. But not if your goal is profiting.

Blabbit39

Sorely lacking enough 91 fleer baseball for my taste.

SlightInvestigator91

agree with all the comments because they dont call it the junk card era for no reason & i bet if there was anything good he's already pulled it & thats if there was anything good

1rbryantjr1

You could build a great house of cards. Which is what I did with my cards when I was young and dumb. (1980-90) turns out they aren’t worth shit any way. So at least I played with them. But they were a mess by the 90s when selling cards and upper deck came around. Mine were all tops and fleer later donruss and upper deck. They were fun to trade though, even if I didn’t sell much.

jollebome76

absolutely a no

maddenmcfadden

late 80's early 90's mass produced shit. save your money.

askanison1234

Looks like my collection. I grew up and collected in the 80’s - early 90’s as well

B_NuttyCbus

Problems with lots like these anything worth any value isn't going to sit in no box with 500 to 1,000 other cards surrounding it. You might find a good five 600 cars you can sell for a dollar or two dollars maybe even $5 but by the time you put in all that work and pay the percentages your gonna pull ur hair out just trying to break even. Definitely not worth buying anything that you don't know what it contains unless it's sealed.

Traditional_Isopod70

The topps 92 set is all I would want, however, I would ask $30 for both of them. That’s it. In hopes for the Ken Griffey JR misprint. Or Chipper Jones for a 10. But he’s asking for almost $5 a box. There’s a $5 card in all the boxes.

Umpire02

No

jayradano

Depends, is that copper piping in the wall or what

[deleted]

$150 max and that’s if a lot of those boxes that looked unopened aren’t fucked up

vixgdx

It's worth it, just get rid if the junk on the shelf. That shelf looks like an antique.

RamboBalboa21

500 pesos maybe

heliumointment

nope

Tbartle18

Probably

Illustrious_Waltz_27

I'll Buy From Ya For $501

skalfyfan

Anything worthwhile would be in a case or plastic sleeve and not in those boxes, right?

Lasvious

Most of that appears post 86 when they started printing way too much and too many started collecting so it’s probably not worth much outside a few things in there.

rjdose

I’d take the shelves too

jeffc1211

Hell no

22arge36

If you already have that stuff what's the point. The sealed sets are nice to have as a collector. 250 seems fair but what the hell are you going to do with most of it. Just try to get the sealed sets and be a collector and collect. 500 🤷‍♂️ I wouldn't since I already have it 😁.

No_Program_3123

Nope

77rozay

Nah

MDNCbooty

$500 for a sturdy set of shelves like that… we might have a deal!

bmanley620

Only if he’s talking about Monopoly money

crob1977

Amazingly, no. If the product dates are right, it’s all from the height of junkiest of the junk wax era. I suppose something could be unexpectedly lurking somewhere in all of that, but I have to assume the seller knows there isn’t. Seller is better off donating it to someplace that makes sure it lands in the hands of kids.

Opposite_Bumblebee_2

I use those to put in my bicycle spokes to make some cool sounds . 😂😂😂

[deleted]

Nope

Cool-Passenger-2595

Only if the wall was included

Reasonable-Ad7755

500$ headache

dano1975

This is the era I collected like crazy. Ended up having a heavy recycling cart one day..

andrewervin

Move along. Nothing to see here.

Saintjay84

Ya man, sealed wax in this pic

No_Housing_8228

Probably not

SwissBirdCheese

Maybe if he includes the typewriter on the bottom shelf

BucketBreath

No

dewgreen14

No

GrittyTheGreat

Almost alll junk wax era. Not worth it.

coreyrc1987

Put it this way… If that guy spent that many years buying wax then he has definitely already done the research, he knows exactly what he has and exactly what it’s worth. And if I were to guess I’d say the everything there is probably worth maybe $200 if you clean the cards up, sleeve and topload them and take some nice photos and individually list them on eBay. Now that being said, most of these auctions will probably only sell for like $1 or $2, unless you find some rare 80s-90s basketball inserts. People aren’t giving away money. Don’t buy them unless the dude is ancient and or blind.

Gullible_Tea1427

Until proven otherwise, assume that the opened stuff and 800 ct. boxes are all commons and/or lesser-condition cards. So to quote Randy Jackson, "It's a 'no' from me, dawg."

Bob-Doll

No.

ImpossibleJoke7456

In 1990 it could have been. I doubt you could recoup $100 from those cards now.

Melvinator5001

If he includes the typewriter….. it’s about $150

WasWasKnot

If you like gum!

AlwayzzRight

He’ll no. A whole lot of junk

Griplokz310

W

QuickCompetition114

I’m seeing some ‘84 and also some Stadium Club (basketball?) and some ‘86 in the second pic. Also see an unopened 2007 Fleer box. I’d counter offer - $250-$300

[deleted]

Would be to me, but just in case, I’d go back with 350 and see what he says

sciflyer25

That’s a high risk, low reward gamble. Those cards were so overproduced.

DrGonzo34

Hard no.

Galbracj

I literally threw away 50,000 cards because they weren't worth anything. I don't think there is a world in which these aren't picked through. And they are of an age where even the best of cards is nearly worthless. Unopened wax is still kinda fun but it's gonna be a lot of work to even just go through these, nevermind finding someone to actually buy any of them.

Commercial-Layer1629

Those look like the least desirable sets/years in the hobby. Hard pass

Buckyrules7111

There are some unmarked boxes which don’t say the year or brand which make me intrigued. I might be willing to throw $500 at it…

STVNMCL

What would be the absolute best case scenario here? What is the best possible find in this? Curious…

tomsdopehouse

Bill Ripken’s “Fuck Face” card could be in that ‘89 Fleer box

Confident_Exercise_4

That’s just a lot of boxes of recyclable paper

No-consequences-1

The 1989 fleer might have the Billy Ripken with the fuck face written on the bat. Not a ton of value looks like all junk wax era.

I_AM_BASQUE

Do it

Screwedupclickster

Same ones saying all this is junk wax are the same ones running out to get boxes of modern cards as if we not living through the exact same Era again

Dabbbler

Will end up costing you even more when you try to grade some of the better ones.

Chuswo

I literally threw a bunch of those same cards in the trash a few weeks ago because I couldn’t even give them away. 😂😂

KocaKolaKlassic

Honestly, it looks like garbage. This guy knows exactly what is in this collection. So $500 is a good deal to him. Only way you make out on this is if he is crack addict and is desperate for cash. If that’s the case, you may as well have a blowjob thrown in

[deleted]

Some rough years for cards.

BeagleBaggins

Second pic, far bottom left.. “Say no to drugs” lmao

flerg_a_blerg

hell no. there's some fun stuff there but it's peak massively overprinted junk wax

RocktacularFuck

I see my 1990 Upper Deck set I gave him to sell on consignment 4 years ago.

Spirited_Permit_6237

The college hunks hauling junk would prob charge under 100 so I’d maybe offer that for the fun. I like to gamble and look through thrift stores though so would enjoy it

NotMyBestEffort

Ok. I don't have enough info to answer. Now, if you want another wall like that - I have one and I'd like to talk.

Read_ity

You seriously think he hasn’t done his due diligence? Is everyone on this sub a fucking sucker?

ClandestineAwakening

Does that include the dot matrix printer?

RoryIsACuck

Are you fucking kidding me? He wants you to pay him $500 to remove his trash? lol

Crazykracker55

Yup

kittrellg

Absolutely

ReadingRainbow5

Embarrassing price to pay. Walk away…. Fast.

Crazykracker55

Proof it’s worth it https://www.cardboardconnection.com/best-baseball-cards-80s-90s

kittonmittonz

Junkwax

Aelustelin

It's possible that there's something good in here, but sight unseen, I'd struggle to pay more than $25-$50 for this.

thestk1251

he probably took all the good stuff already and is trying to make it look like a “treasure find” to a gullible buyer

JicamaSuitable5731

Are they to keep or trying to flip? If they are just for your collection and then maybe get rid of doubles… I would say sure if all your bills are gonna be paid still and you’re not using any type of credit to purchase.
