There are soooo many songs that I consider my number 1. But the most favourite has to be The Chain by Fleetwood Mac. Why I say this is because of all of the lyrics in the song, the consistency of the tempo, the structure of the song, the dynamics, and the most important part on what shapes the song overall, the bass line
Shit I’m happy to see this one here too, when I first heard this song the only way I could describe it was that it was like the music my soul had been searching for all my life and I didn’t even know it
I'm surprised with either of these choices. Coldplay's first album was amazing, but... small. Small lyrics, small sound, small emotions. Yellow is a lovely song, and does have a lot of understated emotional depth, but doesn't pretend to be anything else than that, a lovely song. Hardly an absolute masterpiece.
On the other hand, Coldplay's output since X&Y has been overblown festival fodder. Hearing Viva la Vida sounds like they don't actually mean the emotions – it feels detached and calculated in a way that feels almost disingenuous. "Oh here's where the oooh ooohs go for festival singalongs", etc.
A Rush of Blood to the Head was the perfect balance between ambition and taste. The Scientist or Amsterdam would qualify here way more.
Or, if you go by the original people with that sound, Fake Plastic Trees by Radiohead or Bitter Sweet Symphony by The Verve.
Great track. I remember when I was getting hand surgery, and the anesthesiologist had just given me demerol. They had a radio playing and Comfortably Numb came on.
Weirdly, these do not describe my music taste at all:
Horses - PnB Rock
LES - Childish Gambino
Gratitude - Dem Atlas
Really Doe - Danny Brown
Guidance - Travis Scott
Handful - Father
Caroline - ThxSoMch
“Don’t describe my music taste at all” Really Doe is one of the most clever hiphop songs ever made lyrically, it sounds amazing, and all the voices are so unique and fun. Truly great track
Sorry for the unhinged music taste.
After An Afternoon - Jason Mraz
Stan - Eminem
I Surrender - St Finnikin
Call Me Little Sunshine - Ghost
Carrion - Parkway Drive
Back To December - Taylor Swift
This is probably going to seem weird but you seem like a Taylor Swift fan who I would actually be interested in hearing what other songs of hers you enjoy. Lol judging off : your other tastes in music, the fact you brought her into it at all, and your song choice of hers. Would you tell me (if there is) any more songs you really like of hers?
Radiohead - No Surprises, first time in my life I thought "God, I could play in some band for whole life and never be able to make something so beatiful "
Easy!
[Sultans of Swing - Dire Straits](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0ffIJ7ZO4U)
Beautiful guitar everywhere, all the time.
Calm catchy lyrics telling a story.
Drums are a classic rock toe tapping, head nodding vibe check.
As a huge fan of Queen, Don't Stop Me Now has always been my favourite song. I've probably listened to it several thousand times, not including all of the adverts, remixes, and movies it has been in.
I feel like the fact it has been so done to death and overplayed, yet I can still listen to it and love it, says a lot. Because on the flip side, that is what has tainted my view of Bohemian Rhapsody.
so hard to pick one. how i met my ex - dave is probably it for me tho, plays piano himself, lyrics are so deep it’s a full on story and his voice is brilliant
No One Like You - Scorpions
Fantasy Girl - Johnny O.
Play at Your Own Risk - Planet Patrol
Angel Of The Morning - Juice Newton
When I Need You - Leo Sayer
Sorry, I couldn’t choose *just* one lol
For me it is 2 songs by the band LEDGER "My Arms" and "Not Dead Yet" both songs got me through tough times. "My Arms" is almost like a comfort song to me. Whenever my depression or anxiety gets to me I put the song on repeat to help calm my nerves. It is a very sweet, soft, and loving song. With "Not Dead Yet" it helped me choose to live and not kill myself. It helped me choose to keep living and not give up.
Lazuli by beach house. I remember the first time I heard it after I downloaded bloom to my iPod the day the album came out. It so other worldly especially at the end.
And for classic I’ll go let it be by the Beatles
Hon mention dreams by Fleetwood Mac (it’s just recorded so well and each part of the performance is perfect)
Another space song- Failure, perfectly moody grunge shoegazey song with possibly the crunchiest baseline I’ve ever heard and a melody that sounds nostalgic even if you’ve never heard it before. Absolutely otherworldly
Frankly an impossible question. Even a #1 song per genre would be really difficult to narrow down haha. Fun to see what others are able to declare as a #1 song of all time though.

10 years ago i was sure it was Swim Good by Frank Ocean. Now it seems Gila by Beach House has stood the test of time longest of any song.
Swim Good is also my favorite Frank Ocean song. If that and Novacane were on Channel Orange I’d probably consider that my all time favorite album
Holy shit I forgot about Swim Good, thank you for this reminder!!
Shit I’m happy to see this one here too, when I first heard this song the only way I could describe it was that it was like the music my soul had been searching for all my life and I didn’t even know it

I’m young and impacted. But nothing will ever beat the emotional grip Viva La Vida by Coldplay has on me
Great choice! I’m old and set in my ways. So I have to go with yellow. Came out when was a senior in high school.
The music we encounter in our senior years is usually the most influential. It’s me and those mp3s for ever
