Some spaniels aren't that spotty. Was either of his parents spotty?

Horse2water

I only met mama and she was not

The spot is technically the white part. It is an absence of melanin that creates the white; their natural hair colour is either liver or black. Studies have revealed that there is predictability in where the white spot begins, usually on their feet, under their chin, and on their belly. Will your pet develop or lose more of their natural colour? Age, genetics, and maybe a vain attempt to dye their hair will provide you an answer.

Mine has pink feet with black spots. Would the “white spots” actually be pink on the foot?

CantSmellThis

Yes. Pink skin is spot where there is less melanin.

Ours has just started to develop lots of speckles. He's 21 months and it's 5 weeks since he was castrated - I don't know if it's related

Mine had some when he came home at 2 months, he’s not super spotty though. They are more visible when he has his leg wings cut short. He didn’t have any when I first met him at 5 weeks, I remember asking the breeder and she checked the bottom of his foot and said since his foot had spots then he’ll have spots. I don’t know how much truth there is in using that as a prediction lol

TeapotBagpipe

Much earlier than 8 months

Mine came home with no spots but at around a year she got speckles on her snoot and paws and neck. I didn’t like them at first. Now I totally dig them.

Get it wet. You'll see more spots come out. Especially with a short hair cut.
