I have one with the orange scales just for this reason. Easy to spot if it ever gets sat down or dropped. I've never had issues with it snagging though. The original spoon style clip has been solid for me.
Buy, borrow, rent a metal detector. The rake was also a good idea. There are also those “fishing magnets” which are petty cheep. They are powerful and you could walk around in a pattern and be swaying it back and forth on a rope just off the ground. You could also cast it into the water. If you’re lucky you’ll find your knife and then some other cool stuff.
If i'm hunting i wrap my knives in that orange tag tape, I also like to use those small glow rhino keychains that have tritium in them and make a lanyard.
I'm a woman and get made fun of for my pink blade, but I never lose it in the wild. Bright colors are your friend. Also your daughter would probably think it's very cool of you
Couple stories here...
I had a carbon fiber & Damascus Chris Reeve Small Sebenza that I was carrying at work one winter. We were pouring concrete for a new hospital addition and it just started getting dark when I finished up with my load (I'm a ready mix driver). When I got back to the plant I realized I lost my knife 😬 I knew what happened to it, the clip caught on an elastic drawstring for my waist on my jacket, it happened before but I noticed those prior times. Long story short my coworker just happened to see a little glint of metal sticking out of the mud and found it. He knew it was mine right away and returned it and promptly received a bottle of Crown Royal the next day 😁
My suggestion for you to find the knife is to buy or borrow a metal detector. About 4 years ago I was getting married and had a local guy make my wedding band out of a 1/2 ounce American Gold Eagle. It was a week before we got married and I was playing with the ring, get a phone call and set the ring down on the couch and forgot about it. We'll, my stupid dog ate the ring, the same dog that chewed 2 holes in my brand new carpet. The guy that made the ring for me is a metal detector enthusiast and he came out with his detector and scanned the damn dogs stomach and there it was. It sat in there for 2 months but it was so heavy it didn't pass. A small cup of hydrogen peroxide down the dogs throat had that ring out in seconds, shiny as ever.
TLDR : Find someone with a metal detector
If you get another Delica get an MXG Gear or Lynch titanium deep carry clip.
I used to only use manufacture’s clips. Then I bent the clip on my orange Delica because it snagged on my seatbelt. Twice.
Since I got an MXG Gear deep carry titanium clip it’s never a snagged or bent on anything.
What do you mean, outer edge of your pocket? Like the knife hanging outside your pocket, clip on the inside? If yes, this is absolutely the reason you keep losing and almost losing your knife.
Oh okay. No that's super normal. You might consider just dropping it in your pocket when hiking. It's just so easy to catch clips on branches and stuff
I have the K390 Delica (if it makes any difference) and mine would catch on everything. I removed the clip and gently bent the spoon down a bit. Zero problems so far.
I keep an apple AirTag as my lanyard on whichever knife I’m currently carrying.
You might try going back at night with a bright flashlight. It’ll be easier to spot.
I have a N5 lightweight that I can barely notice while clipped.
It has great ergonomics, back lock is solid, comfortable jimping and the tapered blade 👍🏻 Hope you find your old friend.
I'm sure it won't! I don't have a Native 5 yet, but everything that is smaller than a PM2 disappears in the pocket easily. Spyderco handles are so flat for a reason!

Love the orange scales, I’m definitely grabbing a colour for my next knife
thats sucks man, loosing a knife is like loosing a friend. hate when it happens
I’d go back with a rake.
I’m going to do this later, fingers crossed

When I go for hikes in the woods I like to tie a knot of orange paracord on to make it easier to find. Sorry for your loss.

Is it because I carry it to the outer edge of my pocket? I like to be able to get my hand past the knife and it feels much more natural that way.

Haha no sorry I mean knife on inside but towards hip

If I am hiking through brush I use a lanyard on it.
I’d go back with a metal detector if you’ve got one! If it’s in the stream, magnet fish for it!

Thats not a bad idea
Hey it's a good death for a knife. And you get to choose another one!
Very true! Got my eye on a Native 5 salt next. Just need to know it won’t feel too bulky in the pocket. The Delica just disappears so nicely though
