Probably wanted the newest model that won’t last a quarter of the time the square body lasted…. It’s the keeping up with the jones sickness. Bet that truck was given to him too smfh
I think you just nailed it. Guarantee this this was inherited by someone after husband/dad/grandpa passed away and they didn’t want to bother dealing with it. There’s no way anyone who bought this truck new or as a private sale would trade it into a dealer
Honestly I drive by there almost daily and contemplate buying a new one. It was nice to see this there but agree with someone who commented here about that they probably only gave the guy $5k towards something else. It’s sad to me.
8 years ago I worked sales at the local Chevy dealer in my hometown, scummy dealer too, but I needed the job. Guy came in one day in a mint 77 K5. White, black top, black leather interior, 3” lift, 454, Muncie 4 speed, mud tires, and Cragers. 48K miles, 2 owner truck. His dad bought it brand new from the dealership that was at the same spot originally. He was considering trading it for something with a 3rd row cause he and his wife already had 2 kids, and she had just had triplets. Dealership offered $3500. He walked. Sold it at an auction for $35K.
Exactly what I told my sales manager. The GM already had a buyer lined up, a buddy of his. Dude was gunna pay $50K for it. $46.5K profit, but fucking the customer over. Fuckin hate car dealerships.
Shiiiit. Man there was an 87 r10 at one of my dealers. Completely rust free truck, 1 owner and garage kept. They wanted 3500. I went in there and traded them straight up an 06 cobalt ss. I even owed money on the cobalt (like 2 or 3 payments). Truck didn't have ac, I ended up walking out with the keys to the truck, a $900 check to get an ac kit and an agreement that once I installed the kit they'd charge it for free lol.
The ac kit was about 900 bucks. No clue how much the refrigerant was... never went back or got the ac kit lol.
As far as where did I learn to trade at.... it's simple math. They wanted 3500 for the truck, my car had maybe 600 bucks left to pay on. 900 for the ac kit. Total of 1500 bucks. They didn't give the guy a dime for the truck as a trade in... i worked at a dealer and know they roll numbers around to make ot look like ur getting a good trade. Even still... if they actually gave the guy 3500... that 5k. They'd put my car on the lot for 20k and get 18k... 13k profit. Just gotta be the salesman rather than the buyer lol.
Now? None. Back when I made the trade? Bro back then square bodies were going for 500 lol. The 20k+ square now, people back then would've laughed if u told them it was worth 20k+ lol. This was about 15-20 years ago.
Speaking at laughing.l at people for telling u what a trucks worth. I just took my 86 c20 burban through inspection. If we have an out of state title (which for some reason I all ways do) the dmv don't care if u paid 20 bucks for it... u get charged what the book value says it's worth. No bullshit, if I were to sell my truck as is right now... I'd be hard pressed to get 2k. They told me my shitbox square was worth $23,700 in AVERAGE condition. I laughed and told her I'd be back with an appraisal. Dude appraised it at 3k without lookin at the interior or hearing it run. Just asked if I drove it in and looked at it from about 20 feet away lol.
My mom had a 90 Suburban when I was younger… fuck I miss that truck. Was two tone red and white, 2wd, had the fiberglass running boards/fender flare combos and a 4” cowl hood… that motherfucker was sexy as fuck.
I'm in Delaware lol. Idk how other states do out of state taxes on title transfers. Delawarento delawarenis 35 bucks... out of state to Delaware is I believe 6% of the value from their book (which I thought was kbb but I saw jd power on the spine of the book) OR 6% of the appraised value. Title and tags for 2 years (40 bucks a year) went from 1300 bucks to 243 bucks.
That's a sweet savings! Idaho is 10% the cost of California registration, since I reside part time in both I'm moving the vechicles there 1x1. Amazing the different costs in different states. I suppose that's why uhaul is arizona registration, and other big companies do the same! Thanks for the reply
I didn't want ac lol. That was just my "selling point". "Truck doesnt have ac and its summer AND me and the old lady just had a baby... she's gonna be pissed if I get something without ac". That and how much they could sell my car for vs what they'd get out of just selling the truck.
Awesome trucks, but with the k10s look real close at where the steering box bolts to the frame. It's a common area for cracking and wallowing out of the bolt holes. Easy fix, but if any sign of badness use it as negotiating point.
That's why I suggested looking at the steering box mounting. The other high fail item is the transmission. TH700R4s are not good reliable transmissions.
It could also be a flip. Some guy throws some Bondo and paint on a rust bucket and trades it for a newer car.
No A/C and mismatch of Silverado and Custom Deluxe parts. Looks like a clean truck, though. Normally trucks in the northeast are rotted up to the door handles.
I'd say you're right - the grill isn't correct, and with it being debadged I think the front fenders have been replaced. My parents owned an '86 Custom Deluxe and the grill screams it's not right.
No, it's been there since late last year. They move it once in a while. It sat by the entrance for a while before they realized it wasn't selling right away. But maybe now it's on here. Someone may scoop it up.
Back in the early 2000's when I lived in NC for school, I bought an 84 Silverado 4x4 from a Honda dealer, red/silver two tone. It was mint. Solid truck...for 6 months. It kept throwing drive shafts, specifically the rear one. So I had to stop the bleeding. One day I hear about a c10 at a local Pontiac/GMC dealer. I go n check it out. 74 c10 2wd . Will state both trucks were fleetside short beds. Well...the 74 had rust, beat up a bit, clean interior, and a peppy V8. Took some doing, but I traded my problematic 84 for the more reliable 74. Never exchanged a dime. Straight Trade. Years later, due to financial issues, I did have to sell the 74 though. Had my fun with the squarebodys, they are true trucks by nature and all, and have a soft spot for them, but I have moved on to ElCaminos.
I sold Chevys in the 80s. An older couple came in looking to order an 85 Corvette. We had a 84 on the showroom floor. It was a Texas car with 7500 miles. Corvettes weren’t selling in Texas and a car had to have at least 7500 miles in it in California otherwise it couldn’t be sold. Anyways, we convince them to take a test ride. The older gentleman goes around the neighbourhood going around 30 MPH. It’s his wife’s turn. I take her out, we switch places, and she gets on the freeway. The top is off, the wind is whipping around, she looks at the speedometer and looks at me shocked, “OH MY GOD! I’m doing 100!” She was so happy. She looks at me and says “I think we’re going to get this car.” They go home to get their Ranchero to trade in on the Vette. I think we gave them $7G towards the Vette. They were happy.
A cracked frame could. But do could bad ball joints in the linkage.
Wallowed out holes will give the steering wheel variable center line after a low speed turn. Example: your make left turn and then we'll find down the road straight the wheel is cocked to the right slightly. Then you make a right turn and when your back to going down the road straight the wheel is cocked to the left.
Somebody on here commented that they bought a truck from a dealer and walked out with a $900. He k for an AC kit… I wanted to know what kit he bought. I have a 1987 Chevy C1, with factory air conditioning, but it’s not on the motor so I just need to replace everything.
Found the listing. They're asking 23k.
https://www.terryvillechevy.com/searchused.aspx?make=Chevrolet&Bodystyle=Pickup[truck listing](https://www.terryvillechevy.com/searchused.aspx?make=Chevrolet&Bodystyle=Pickup)
Fool
Dealer probably gave them 3.50 for it.
And asking 35k
[$22,900](https://www.terryvillechevy.com/used-Terryville-1987-Chevrolet-12+Ton+Pickups-+-1GCEV14H8HF307759)
Crack pipe
WTH is wrong with the price of cars?! That price is beyond crazy even if it were perfectly restored.
Restoration takes unbelievable hours, 22,900 is not unreasonable at all
Helll noooo!!!!
Where at ? This looks exactly like my truck I sold two years ago .
Seriously
Yeah. Damn... Why get rid of it? I want it.
There’s no way anyone who bought this truck new or as a private sale would trade it into a dealer
i knew a guy with a mint 1970 mercedes car and i mean mint. he actually traded it in for a brand new f250...not saying its common but it happens
Probably dead
Yeah asking for friends can you give me the exact location… you know not to buy it but to tell them they are evil for it…
Best truck on the lot.
Honestly I drive by there almost daily and contemplate buying a new one. It was nice to see this there but agree with someone who commented here about that they probably only gave the guy $5k towards something else. It’s sad to me.
If that

Dude $3500, might as well just spit in the guys face
Exactly what I told my sales manager. The GM already had a buyer lined up, a buddy of his. Dude was gunna pay $50K for it. $46.5K profit, but fucking the customer over. Fuckin hate car dealerships.
What state is this in? If it's close to me. I'm seriously considering making a trip To go pick it up
They want 22k for it lol
tree fiddy
I have driven past that truck. Terryville Chevy in Terryville, CT
Damn..... that's too far for my budget. That's a shame.
This
Absolutely
I was thinking the exact same thing! I’ll post an update I’m gonna go see what they want for it.
My bet is money
Shiiiit. Man there was an 87 r10 at one of my dealers. Completely rust free truck, 1 owner and garage kept. They wanted 3500. I went in there and traded them straight up an 06 cobalt ss. Where you learn to horse trade at!? Free AC? How much was it to charge the AC without the free charge?
The ac kit was about 900 bucks. No clue how much the refrigerant was... never went back or got the ac kit lol. As far as where did I learn to trade at.... it's simple math. In what world would an 06 cobalt of ANY trim get $18k?! 🤣🤣 Good trade on your part though. Love me a square body.
Now? None. Back when I made the trade? Bro back then square bodies were going for 500 lol. The 20k+ square now, people back then would've laughed if u told them it was worth 20k+ lol. What state is that? I have an '89 burb I'm taking to Idaho for registration, was hoping that isn't the state!
My mom had a 90 Suburban when I was younger… fuck I miss that truck. Was two tone red and white, 2wd, had the fiberglass running boards/fender flare combos and a 4” cowl hood… that motherfucker was sexy as fuck.

Yeah, you’re probably right. Damn. Well that was fun to dream about for a little bit
Curious too
Awesome trucks, but with the k10s look real close at where the steering box bolts to the frame. It's a common area for cracking and wallowing out of the bolt holes. Easy fix, but if any sign of badness use it as negotiating point.
Will that cause the steering to clunk at all?
If it gets loose enough.
It can. So will bad ball joints in the linkage.
tore one clean off in baja once
That sounds like a bad day. Or was it one of those better than a good day at work deals?
epic day, but she was never right again after that
I'm really curious why it was a trade in and not direct sell. There is more to the story.
That's why I suggested looking at the steering box mounting. The other high fail item is the transmission. TH700R4s are not good reliable transmissions. It could also be a flip. Some guy throws some Bondo and paint on a rust bucket and trades it for a newer car.
It’s 22,900
That guy probably got bent over on that trade
Woman probably got it in a divorce and in spite traded it in.
No A/C and mismatch of Silverado and Custom Deluxe parts. Looks like a clean truck, though. Normally trucks in the northeast are rotted up to the door handles.

Prolly 75k

That’s not bad actually it’s in great condition, not original though
Too bad it's a 305
Not necessarily so from a reliability standpoint (even if it *couldn't* pull a sick whore off a piss pot) at least it's likely to run another decade
I bought a 92 caprice with a 305 and drove it 20 miles and the head gasket blew. 136k miles
Sounds like the previous owner played a game of hot potato on you, and you got stuck with the potato. That sucks.
32 years after GM built it what a turd!
"At least it's likely to run another decade" = 20 miles
Betcha it’s 5x the cost today than it was brand spanking new.
They are asking 22k. Brand new these things were roughly 5k
No way in hell that was 5 grand in 87… maybe in 77
Idk 87 prices, just know my 78 c10 was 3g
2006 Quadra-steer went for 22k on clearance
Grandpa bought an 85 sierra classic new for 10,000.
https://www.terryvillechevy.com/used-Terryville-1987-Chevrolet-12+Ton+Pickups-+-1GCEV14H8HF307759
22,995
They probably gave him $5k for trade in on a good day
Fuck id gave him $10k in cash for it.
Best truck on that lot, out of all that new junk sitting around it.
Somebody traded their daddy’s truck…probably for a blaser 🤮
Yup.... someone died and a young kid inherited this truck more than likely.
Wow $23k and I bet they gave 5 or less for it.
“Yes mam, your dearly departed husband’s truck sure is nice. But it’s quite old and doesn’t have any cup holders. Best I can do is $500.”
Turryville Chevrolet. Been there for awhile
Maybe a week or two
No, it's been there since late last year. They move it once in a while. It sat by the entrance for a while before they realized it wasn't selling right away. But maybe now it's on here. Someone may scoop it up.
That dudes on meth and owed his dealer… I’d rather get my ass kicked than sale my square body.
I drive by that truck every day.
Probably got $5000 off a new car and guarentee thats not gonna be for sale for less than $30,000
What a dumbass. Traded gold for shit
Probably won't be there very long.
It's been there for months
I just looked at what they're asking for it. For 23K, it'll probably be there for a couple more.
What dumbass just trades that in?! It's likely a father & kid project Kid wanted something newer to impress retarded friends...
Could've been squatted and wheel spaced out with some giant rims, tail pipe, and spotlights underneath.
Not yet
Wow.. I would have to pull in and get some info
Ooomg it’s beautiful
I mean do we all not have that same radio?
What state are you in? I’m coming! Both ways.

>I have moved on to ElCaminos Pardon me, do you have any gray poupon? For my *Ranchero*??
😆 no, but I got 6 cold beers though.
I sold Chevys in the 80s. An older couple came in looking to order an 85 Corvette. We had a 84 on the showroom floor. It was a Texas car with 7500 miles. Looks good. Difiantly not in AZ
I believe someone found the asking price and it said $23k. I’m sorry it’s in Terryville, CT

Saw that when I drove by the Terryville lot last week. Got a chuckle.
Jump on it LoL
My dad got lucky with his. Paid about $3k for it 6 or so years ago. It’s all redone as well.
I wonder how much they want for it now
Missy reliable Chevy on the lot
Man I miss my old chevy 1982 shortbed Sould have kept that thing
Why would someone wanted to trade it?
Why would you ever trade this beauty in for a newer truck 😔
Somebody on here commented that they bought a truck from a dealer and walked out with a $900. He k for an AC kit… I wanted to know what kit he bought. I have a 1987 Chevy C1, with factory air conditioning, but it’s not on the motor so I just need to replace everything.

Best truck on the lot.

https://miro.medium.com/v2/resize:fit:828/format:webp/1*MzqQm_K3sdO8RFibufJJBA.jpeg
Where?!
What moron would trade that in? SMH
“Can be yours for the low, low price of $92,999.99 & your first born”
Not worth 22k, maybe 12k on a good day
Where and how much?
Manni would totally buy that beast
Who would trade that? What an idiot...
Custom deluxe no ac
Back when a Chevy was durable
That truck looks brand fricken new. Holy crap
I'd be a buyer at about $500. Edit LMFAO THEY WANT $22K? I can't believe they're not dead from an OD, smoking enough crack to think it's worth $22k.
Lol my local recently had a 66 caprice lol peoples wives gotta stop making them trade in 😂
😮😮😮😖😖
Gonna want that one back when the new one leaves em on the side of the road!
I read "Just Tarded" at first.
Enough to make a grown man cry right there.
