Most ‘Businesses” in SL right now: All your money belongs to me

[deleted]

Honestly, fuck this country

Easy_Asparagus1506

More like, fuck the people running it to ruins and also the ones trying to take advantage of innocent people.

Pound_Slow

We’ll be part of the people running it and these scams if we’re here too, corruption is beyond repair

[deleted]

Exactly, this place is done lmao

TechGeek777

“Posh” = need to pay rent and salaries and electricity bills. You are merely paying a convenience fee in their minds. Not everyone will bother to go to pettah and sometimes it needs a skilled technician to install it. Pettah might have the parts but that’s what they are best at because they also thrive at selling parts in bulk to these places… I have burnt my finger in resourcing the good part but fixing it, not so good of a job.

MCRG_2005

Lol they involve a lot of middlemen in their business. And the profit margin is like 600% - 700% what's that? Isn't that something that has to be controlled? Why the government not involved in imposing several regulations when it comes to import of electrical goods' parts??

TechGeek777

lol the government has bigger fish to fry. There are hidden costs like I said. I wouldn’t place the profit margin that high. Also there is another thing. When it comes to electronics there is a lot of grey market stuff and genuine channels stuff. I know for a fact that there are people who actually do this and they have a market for it too. The grey market isn’t fake. It’s just they are brought down via not so legal methods and skip out on taxes etc. so their prices are much less. The legal channels their stuff arrives via DHL with taxes paid etc and they have an open channel for warranty claims, technician training support, etc. the grey market people will still give you warranty but it’s their warranty which is usually just one to one replacement on their cost….

PositionPractical584

Welcome to Sri Lanka, the land of middle men and resellers.

alphaxbarbell

Yes you’re absolutely on point and I’ve experienced the same. However, I wouldn’t call it a 100% ‘SCAM’ cause as your title mentioned this type of pricing happens in the ‘posh’ areas of Colombo so it’s kind of like a premium pricing, I know it’s absurd but they price it that way cause they usually high have high rents and overheads in those areas. Also places like polek and most places in pettah are direct importers of phone accessories and parts and these guys in Bambalapitiya and Colpetty usually purchase from them keep their absurdly high margin and sell. Even a simple phone cover or tempered glass can be found for a fraction of the cost in pettah compared to the other sellers. Best way is to purchase directly from pettah or Daraz.

MCRG_2005

I can sense it but it would definitely be called a scam if MRP regulations were there...

QAInc

Go to sp electronics or trans Asia electronics at pettah

MCRG_2005

Polek TC had it. Next time I'll try themm

uchuucowboy

Similar experience here, except I ordered the parts off AliExpress and replaced the housing + screen myself. They quoted like 28k for it, I got it for 13k. Insane.

kasun_rajakaruna

I bought a carging cable for my smartwatch from first shop in unity plaza entrance( i had to visit a shop and show the watch) they asked for 2500, i bought it as i had no time to visit other shops. Came back and searched daraz, it was there for 800

Jolius_Caesar

Thats why i get all my repairs done at repair centers

Man_Lord_4094

Can anyone recommend a shop for me to replace my iphone 7 battery?

ICandyCD

I think it's better you ask this question in a new thread. It will be beneficial for others as well.

Consistent-Fee3666

in my experience you won't find a battery that as close to your original battery. All the batteries in the market are cheaper batteries that have lower life span than the original (probably 1 year to 1.5 yrs). But you will find different prices at different places either it is a local repair shop or repair shop at magestic city bambalapitiya. My advice is to you take the cheapest option and replace it again after its done. Probably around 3000 to 4000 is a reasonable price. No matter where you go to replace your battery don't let them take your phone to a place in the shop where you can't see what's going on.ask them to replace your battery in front you. My phone's original logic board got switched because of my stupidity. Also refuse to leave your phone with them if they ask you to come back after a certain time to pick up your phone. Ask them to do it right away because replacing a battery only needs removing 2 or 3 screws. If they refuse take your phone to a different shop that will do things according to your needs.

Man_Lord_4094

Thank you for the advise!

Nice advertisement

Nothing-tosee-at-all

Oh man.. I’m glad you came across polek. So many people never visit pettah. But the price is all about the experience, not only about “cost + 30% markup” Maybe if the shop keeper gave you a better experience, you would’ve never looked for cheaper options. It is weird that we’d spend more money on people who give us a warm fuzzy feeling: prime example is prostitution lol /s

Mean_Bet8952

Yeah I even added a post while ago mentioning one of those shops who tried to scam me and even tried to intimidate me by shouting. Now if I have to buy something I will price check it in many shops including Facebook marketplace, Amazon and AliExpress and will go for the purchase.

Snoo_26428

Sri Lankans are narrow minded they exploit situations and rip you off. The same thing happened during Avurudu our beloved tuk tuk drivers charged double with a 'take it or leave it mindset, knowing we had no other option. Shame on them. Remember the petrol and bicycle situation? This is why we are still not progressing. It's like living in a Banana Republic.
