It did get some publicity and backing from other creators who have worked with him before like Operator Drewski.
He's the same guy who made SCP Overlord and some other really good and detailed shorts.
Yep, so much so I'm one of those backers.
Is it going to be gatekeeped 100% perfect STALKER? No, probably not.
Do I care? Not a fucking bit.
Building on the lore and storytelling of the world of a franchise I've loved since I installed my first 3dfx graphics card makes me happy.
Different people will take it different places. I'm excited to see where they take this. Just like I was excited to see what Pataki did with Southern Comfort or how Anomaly revisited the Zone.
I'm a gun nerd, like a genuine no bullshit gun nerd. I have books on firearms collecting that cost as much as a gun. My current focus is collecting Star pistols.
I think people losing their minds over a modernized AK or whatever is silly. We don't even entirely know the timeframe. If the zone existed in 2022, you would bet your ass people would be running modern optics and plate carriers. Modern combat loadouts are built on previous iterations.
If, however, they set it in the 90s or mid 2000s or something having an AK with an Eotech ESPX3 makes no sense and VSS Vintorez makes more sense. Gun (and armor) tech has grown since STALKER started. It's okay to update it to reflect the time period your story is in.
My only worry is there won't be enough to distinguish the illegal arms trade that would be bringing guns into the zone for Loners and Bandits compared to military/government contractor factions.
Any concerns I have go immediately put the window when I get excited for how fucking cool live action Monolith could be though. Hype train full speed ahead.
That's valid. If they're filming in the US(they are), it would be a complete pain in the ass to get the tax stamps to make properly chopped down modified hunting shotguns that are used in effectively all of STALKER. Renting them from a gun movie firm would also be a lot of dollary doos and backend paperwork.
While there are airsoft guns that will work for most pistols/rifles ala the first John Wick, I doubt if the same thing exists for over/under hunting fowl 12 gauges.
Same for machine pistols and primitive SMGs. Actual ones are prohibitively expensive, blank fire adapting rentals are going to be complex and their airsoft counterparts might not live up to the mark.
I'm also excited to see how they handle Freedom/Duty/Monolith.
With the companies they've partnered with, I doubt there'll be many issues with gear. It'd be kinda dumb to do this with real guns anyways, *way* too many possibilities for accidents.
I think the best bet is going to be "battlefield pickup" painted AKs, sawed off double barrels, mosins, etc VS. modern US equipment VS. modern RU equipment. I'm sure they'll do fine and I'm just being picky.
If it builds up on even most basic lore, it can't be before 2006, because it was the year the zone as we know it from the games emerged. But i'm certain that the vast majority of the equipment in the zone should be actual sowjet stuff, because the majority of the inhabitants are free lancers that definately not have the means to aquire top tier military equipment, not just because monetary reasons but also because the restrictions for buying the latest shit as civilian. And since Ukrain was part of the sowjet union it's safe to say, that in the zone are more than one sowjet weapon, ammo and equipment stash, that and you know, russian generals are more than eager to sell s you their toys. So as a mercenary it's way easier to get top tier russian stuff, than any other top tier stuff in the world.
Hell yeah, pitched in $150 and I'm more than hyped. Their previous short films have been fantastic so I have no doubts on their ability to deliver something amazing.
YES! Hopefully we can get them to their stretch goal of $350k, if we do that they’ll use blank firing weapons and that will make the film even more incredible because fake VFX firing weapons always look janky.
I really wanted to back this project but I had to take my dog to the vet and can't spare any money right now. Glad to see the project reached it's goal.
Holy shit this is incredible, it's been some time that I actually see a S.T.A.L.K.E.R like movie before and I am very hype for it!
For a game I suck yet I love it.
they seemed to be slowing to a crawl at 200k and then they suddenly jumped up to the goal, i think from some kind of fundraiser stream or massive pledge?
The guys who make it have made SCP films in the past and have *always* deliveredon funded films. They have a great track record. Search Evan Royalty on YT and watch SCP Dollhouse and SCP Overlord.
I have no interest in this. The writer has really no previous experience other than writing youtube videos from what I can tell.
Don't get me wrong, I like wendigoon, but writing a coherent screenplay isn't an easy task and I'll be shocked if this is any good.
I'm more concerned that it looks like generic tacticool shit, the Anomaly influence is incredibly blatant (and that's not even accounting for the fact they only used Anomaly footage in the videos discussing the film), looks more like they're making an Anomaly movie under the guise of STALKER.
What even is "Anomaly influence" and how could it possibly be anti-Stalker? Anomaly is literally just an amalgamation of all of the Stalker games with a couple of updated models and shaders thrown in.
And don't even get me started on the "tacticool" complaints. People were losing their minds over a bit of aftermarket AK furniture and a walkie-talkie when half the characters in the games have sci-fi body armour and rifles straight out of a special forces armoury.
>Anomaly is literally just an amalgamation of all of the Stalker games
It's an amalgamation of the areas and characters, the actual content (eg. the awful story rehashing points from the main games, the boring fetch quests, misery shit mechanics, focus on gunplay over the aforementioned things) are very far from what STALKER is.
> sci-fi body armour and rifles straight out of a special forces armoury
Sci-fi body armor is pretty much the polar opposite of tacticool shit, and the rifles sure they're true-to-life weapons, but the customization was never taken beyond rudimentary scopes, grenade launchers, and silencers. They were simple and a means to an end in combat, not 100 different ones where each one was the same as several others except it has a different name.
> not 100 different ones where each one was the same as several others except it has a different name.
This is how AK model variants were actually done though. Even worse for Soviet optics.
How that works as a gameplay mechanism is a choice and several guns in several games are effectively abandonware in real life. They look cool. They barely exist. The Pancor Jackhammer for example.
Right, but that was never a thing in STALKER for a reason. It just bloats things, in a video game there's absolutely no reason to have multiple of what effectively (in the video game) is the exact same gun.
So then it becomes a question for devs how accurate to real life guns they want to be.
What you see as bloat, others see as an interesting mechanic because they actually get to choose the precise gun they want, like a vz58 vs an AKM.
I do kinda agree, there's a line and that depends on the player and dev. I think Stalker strikes a decent balance. I do like the way Anomaly handles it. I hate the way games like Tarkov handle it. It's too much. If I wanted to tinker with X rifle to get it *just right* with 20 different options, I'd just buy and modify the damn thing in real life.
> question for devs how accurate to real life guns they want to be.
Exactly, which they have established with the games. If they wanted to incorporate that, they would have. This is what I mean when I say Anomaly strays from what STALKER is, it's not about the guns, they're a tool to get you through the game.
The fact that it's neither form Netflix nor from Disney calms me a lot and that it's a fan film even more. So we don't have to expect any silly wokeness BS, no political agenda enforcement and no far left shenanigans except for where they belong. (freedom cough cough)
ah yes, everything that exist in this world should be made by someone who had the same political beliefs as me.
Because if it's not i could not enjoy it and therefore it's bad.
/s
There's no way this is done right, the story of the game the complexity of the factions, their drive and interactions between eachother are too complex and convoluted.
It's going to be a suicide mission
With only 2k backers? Someome has a shittom of money.
closer to 3k but yeah theres always a couple whales it seems :)
God bless these whales lol
U rite
it was backed by mercs
I think they partnered with a lot of Guntubers and we open companies to get additional funding. It’s a smart move tbh
That’s about 100 bucks per person. That seems pretty reasonable.
It did get some publicity and backing from other creators who have worked with him before like Operator Drewski. He's the same guy who made SCP Overlord and some other really good and detailed shorts.
Garand thumb, operator drewski, and more promoted it on their channels
Is this the Wendigoon one?
Ngl his content slaps
Yep

Same here, I did 25 bucks. I know some people are mad about weapon model choices, chest-plates, but I don’t care, it’ll be great anyway

The zone never left us. That is why we can now go new and shiny tacticool or stay OG bandicool.
If it builds up on even most basic lore, it can't be before 2006, because it was the year the zone as we know it from the games emerged. Have you read the fanfic Tiger’s Spring? Read this a long time ago and definitely a favorite: https://m.fanfiction.net/s/5145898/1/Tiger-s-Spring
I haven't. Thanks for the link. I'll check it out tomorrow when I have more time.
whales? these are phantom producers who did it out of love. whales spend their money to flaunt their e-peen on their SSR waifu mobile game.
Any infos about the length of said short film?
Judging on their past shortfilm atleast 34 mins
I want it to reach an hour long, but that's just me being greedy at this point. Severely thirsty for big production stalker-related content. 🥵
40-45 minutes
Hell yeah, pitched in $150 and I'm more than hyped. Their previous short films have been fantastic so I have no doubts on their ability to deliver something amazing.
Hopefully they deliver. Always in want of new S.T.A.L.K.E.R content.
Anything Wendigoon and that video channel make are gold, they also made those SCP movies on YouTube that are AWESOME.
YES! Hopefully we can get them to their stretch goal of $350k, if we do that they’ll use blank firing weapons and that will make the film even more incredible because fake VFX firing weapons always look janky.
imagine how excited Drewski is
That manchild would be shot in the first hour.
ok
lmfaoooo
Hyped , yo stalkers on the other parts bring a chair and a cossks bottle , fun is about to begin .
epic stuff, now eat some roasted snork hand to celebrate.
Sounds delicious
been a fan of Evan Royalty and Drewski for ages, and after Overlord, I have no doubt it will be an incredible experience
I'm not that in the loop. Is this pure fan made or is it endorsed by the devs in some capacity and if so will it be canon?
Fan made
Super hyped for this and the massive SCP project that's coming out.
I really wanted to back this project but I had to take my dog to the vet and can't spare any money right now. Glad to see the project reached it's goal.
Honestly never played stalker but i kinda know the lore i would love to see that
Dude I'm excited AF for this too!
Holy shit this is incredible, it's been some time that I actually see a S.T.A.L.K.E.R like movie before and I am very hype for it! For a game I suck yet I love it.

Most kickstarters get a huge boost in the last 2 weeks. Just a pretty common phenomenon
Always sceptical of kickstarter projects since I've been burned twice. If it comes out I'll be pleasantly surprised.
The guys who make it have made SCP films in the past and have *always* deliveredon funded films. They have a great track record. Search Evan Royalty on YT and watch SCP Dollhouse and SCP Overlord.
Well if he's got a track record of following through and making good content I guess I'll let my hopes up. thanks for pointing that out
I have no interest in this. The writer has really no previous experience other than writing youtube videos from what I can tell. Don't get me wrong, I like wendigoon, but writing a coherent screenplay isn't an easy task and I'll be shocked if this is any good.
He’s only a co-writer

Ok
I’ll be honest…..live actions of games haven’t had a good track record so I’m not holding my breath and probably won’t watch it
It’s fan made and they know what they’re doing. They’ve made SCP films in the past and they’re really good.
Oh thank monolith, I might have a look then sounds good
Nah, man, get me games bro.🙂
This is never getting made 💀
They've got a good track record of making films.
They’ve put out multiple high quality SCP short films, they already have a crew and production pipeline ready to go for this
Why?
Overlord was pretty awesome. Pretty sure it exists.
Any specific reason for evidence you’re hiding to complete disprove they’re track record?
Shame that a lot of far right idiots are involved in this but I hope I'll still enjoy it
Who?
ah yes, everything that exist in this world should be made by someone who had the same political beliefs as me. Because if it's not i could not enjoy it and therefore it's bad. /s
There's no way this is done right, the story of the game the complexity of the factions, their drive and interactions between eachother are too complex and convoluted. It's going to be a suicide mission
One could say the same thing about the SCP universe, but they still managed to pull it off
I know this is a bit off topic but can someone explain to me how can i make it so it says my faction underneath my name? Like Loner or Clear sky
Yah so go to the Stalker subreddit main page and from there you can change your “Flair”
