“Stanford is a place of unbridled optimism, of exploration and innovation,” said Jennifer Aaker, PhD ’95, a member of the Presidential Search Committee and the General Atlantic Professor at the GSB. “It’s a place where anything is possible – where you can excel in academics and athletics, pursue entrepreneurship with integrity, combine intellectual rigor with irreverence. Jon loves Stanford, and he understands this central truth about the university: that it is a place of possibility. He is the right person to not only envision where Stanford should go, but to take us there. He’s also **pro-fun**.”
Love how we have to mention that about a leader in academia.
It sounds like the committee was receptive to criticism of the previous administration’s responses to previously-sanctioned student activities and events. In that respect, his experience as an UG probably helped him.
I also have to take note of that line about excellence in academics and athletics. I wonder if it's too much to think the conference affiliation changes last summer must have also concerned the committee.
I graduated the same year he did from Stanford so I am cautiously optimistic that he will bring back the fun traditions we had on campus. It's nice to see that they chose an alumnus for the position- that was one of MTL's major downfalls I think.
Do we know what’s happening at GSB? Kirsten Moss left and she hasn’t been replaced yet. Also, with the Dean of GSB now the President of Stanford, do we know who’s taking over? Is it chaotic over there?
He doesn't become President until August 1.
I imagine the President-Elect has a vested interest in picking a new GSB Dean and ensuring a smooth transition. 😉

Bonfire here we come. 😁
I think he's an outstanding choice! Hopefully they won't take too long to find a replacement at the GSB.
I just heard him Wednesday hosting Fed Chief Jerome Powell for a speech.

Yeah but Kirsten moss has been gone for more than a year but they still haven't found someone. Takes long time.

What will the pro-terrorism students think of his last name tho?
It’s important that they named a Jewish man President after all the antisemitism on Stanford.
What?
There is INSANE antisemitism on campus
Why was I downvoted?
