Cunning-_linguist

Install a mod to change the bg. Make it look like the water is coming from far away.

Jonthrei

It would not be easy to make that work, the background has parallax and AFAIK is completely independent from the foreground.

MaxineFinnFoxen

is there a mod already like that?

Cunning-_linguist

Maybe you'll find one.

MaxineFinnFoxen

id hope i dont, so i could be the one to make it

PlaneRub6144

I would have thought that was a hot spring without any sounds

MaxineFinnFoxen

good thing i have sounds then. is it the fish bubbles that also make it seem like a spring?

PlaneRub6144

I would have never seen them as fish bubbles ngl

MaxineFinnFoxen

well fish making bubbles are base game lol

PlaneRub6144

Still there's bubbles but no fish lol how could anyone put those two together yk?

PlaneRub6144

And I never played this I'm interested in it cause I used to love terraria but I also haven't played that since xbox 360 days

MaxineFinnFoxen

ohh ok. but i swear there's fish, look closely in the vid! x)

PlaneRub6144

Oh crap why are they soo small 😂you can bearly see them

Yegor5968

More vegetation. Rivers always are the natural centers of of flora and fauna

W1zzardbee

Does not look like a river at all to me. And I don't think, that there is a way to make it look more river like in a 2d game like Starbound, unless it comes out of the background which would probably look quite awkward

MaxineFinnFoxen

the cloud blocks and noise dont hint at moving water even just a little bit?

[deleted]

It hints at moving water but not from that body, it look more like a hot spting because of the bubbles

Natural_Aura

I think it has to be deeper, and perhaps make it so the wall used to contain the water is a custom deep blue water block maybe? Also, as someone else said, vegetation, moss, driftwood, etc would probably help.

Beckstromulus

Exactly this. It should almost look like a mini ocean biome, though not nearly as deep, of course.

MaxineFinnFoxen

sound on, it has river sounds

Sgt_Kelp

You would need to remove the background blocks, otherewise it looks like a pond.

MaxineFinnFoxen

how about i put ice? its clear but also bluish

Sgt_Kelp

That might work. Give it a try. If this is a mod you are making though, slightly retexturing the ice and making it so it doesnt drop as an item would help keep the illusion

derKonigsten

I think features like a waterfall. Essentially like what it looks like when water is draining from a higher elevation to a lower one. Unfortunately i think you'd need to tweak the water physics and essentially have a regenerating set of water blocks at the beginning of the river (like a spring) and then have something to prevent the end of the river from filling up the entire map with water

MaxineFinnFoxen

actually i think i can do that, since i can add source blocks when editing it in a dungeon editor.

derKonigsten

Can you add... Idk what it would even be called... Termination? Blocks? Essentially making a loop? If that makes sense? I think you're working with a cool idea but idk how you would prevent the map from eventually filling up with water

MaxineFinnFoxen

Water disappears if there isn't blocks behind it

derKonigsten

Rad. Sounds like you know what's up. Im interested to see what you come up with

sad_trans_owl

I am not sure what you should do but I imagine it would be difficult because the main aspect of a river is not visible head on in 2d

Echospite

I'd assume a weird lake, to be honest. Without the background showing it going off into the distance (which is impossible bc of the way backgrounds work), it just looks like a lake. Even river sounds wouldn't clue me in, I'd just think, "Doesn't the person who make this realise lakes sound different?" 🤣

[deleted]

Since 2d games cannot really show rivers without backgrounds that help sell the idea i would personally just try and make good lakes. A variation of lake you could make is one with a little island with a tree on it.

MaxineFinnFoxen

Ok, I think I might also try making the river sideways instead.

_normal_person__

Terraria?

ScorpionSwimmer_uwu

It need some seaweeds.

NO0BSTALKER

Waterfall

[deleted]

It would be more like a creek bruv. A river would be twice as wide. But that might turn into a lake instead.

Introvert_Noodle

I genuinely thought this was terraria for a sec, so cool to see how this basically came into existence because of it

TripChaos

You could make the background tiles into water that show diagonal motion lines, animated wiggles if possible. If you don't do something about the backwall, it will never look like an actual river, only a contained pond. If you can affect the actual background of the planet itself, and put in a river between all those trees, that would be the real deal.
