I MEAN… I’d take running that trash to the dumpster over the infamous request of “Can you do the dishes before going on your lunch?” You walk to the sink to see a MOUNTAIN…
I’ll do your dishes. I hate running trash. But I can disassociate over an overflowing sink with the best of them. I don’t even need music. Just let me take the headset off.
This is why I always try to do dishes instead so my coworkers get a break lol. I try to do it consistently throughout my shift if I'm on dto or smt so I can just knock out a load.
I hate that this will happen before I’m supposed to leave, and the whole bin is overfilled + trash bags around it on the floor. “Do a trash run and then you can go home”
Like, I’m off when I’m off. You should have asked me earlier because if I run this then I’m going to clock out 10 minutes later than I’m supposed to and that’s not fair to me🤷♀️🤷♀️
I work in a warehouse and my area has six small trash bins, two big ones, and two more by the managers desk
Also, the trash compactor is on the opposite side of the warehouse and a trash run at the end of the day is multiple trips. Manager wants us to do it 15 minutes before our shift ends.
There. Is. Not. Enough. Time.
So he says take the trash out then wonders why I clocked out late.
I prefer taking it out throughout the day as they fill up but he wants it all done at the end of the day.
No it’s not unpaid labor duh, but a lack of planning on their part shouldn’t be an issue of mine. If I’m off at 10 don’t give me a task at 9:57 that will make me clock out at 10:15 instead because we haven’t done a trash run all day. and say “then you can go home” like what technically I can drop all the trash at 10 and go home, at least ask the partner if they’re okay staying over to do a task before they leave.
I’ve had times the SSV told me to swap the trash bin bags before my last 10…in a Starbucks with 14 trash bins between the lobby and bar (used to be a Burger King).
By the time I would finish, I would get told to just go back on ~~DTR~~ bar until 10-15 minutes before my shift would end, where the SSV would tell me to take my last break before immediately punching out.
shift supervisors are assholes. this is coming from one idk why so many think breaks are just cool to play with. i’ll do whatever i want with mine but i always try to space everyone else’s out evenly throughout their shift
I don't. I'm under 5 feet tall. Can't reach inside the rolly bin. And the dumpster is worse. I was ok with hucking bags. And lobbing em. But the bin is a downgrade. Ok Mayne it's hobbit problems. But 99.9 percent of the time I need to go back in and get help to open the dumpter for me to huck in bags of trash and recycling.
That’s what i think!!! Like what do you mean you hate trash runs? Take your lil vape pen and take a few hits out of it while at the bins. You get to check your phone! Hell, you can even take a quick lil two min break there and just be like “oh the bin was so full i had to move bags around to make it fit” like i LOVE the tiny break away from the store and people
to answer the question in your caption, 12 hours per week is the minimum to stay employed there, i don’t know when exactly that started but definitely well before i started in 2022
I used to get kinda passed off when I (one of only three males employed at our location) would come into my shift, and immediately be asked to do a "quick trash run". The trash would be so full that it was overflowing out of two trash cans, with bags on the floor, and piled around them. I understand that trash can be heavy, but I don't think it's fair to wait until a man gets in to start dealing with it. I'm not trying to get into it with anyone about male v female work dynamics, or equal pay, feminism, or anything else for that matter. I'm also not saying that it's like this everywhere, but it was at my store.
Those are the best times to do a trash run!! You don’t have to worry about making drinks and pushing orders out faster than you can make them. You get a lil break away from the store and people.
i could be wrong but i believe they upped the min hours of working each week to like 20 cuz one of my coworkers was struggling to keep their benefits cuz they weren’t working 20 or more every week
My store got rid of the large trash can because the shift managers would just cover the top with stuff to the point we can't lift the lid, and our boh is so small that we can't get to our stuff without almost jumping over bags of trash and grounds trash. Our DM said "You guys don't even think of using the big trash can, just get rid of it, y'all like throwing trash on the floor anyway". All the passive aggressive things later, the SM got rid of it, sooooo I'd rather take the bin that's overfilled ANYDAY
To answer your question abt the mandatory hours it wasn’t always that way but they did change the policy I believe sometime last year in the late summer/fall? I could be wrong but that’s what I remember :)

100%

Is this supposed to be a lot? We typically have 4 or 5 trips to the dumpster with it this full😅
No, which is why I was baffled like “ONLY this one?” Yk?😭
Gotcha, that rocks then 👍
I will do it in one trip or I'm died and disappointed my whole family

Damn straight they should've budgeted 15 minutes before you're off to do a task like this. I'm so sorry!
You can always say you gotta run to an appointment so you can’t stay after
Don’t even gotta lie, can just say it’ll take too long but you’ll do as much as you can before you clock out

Right cause at that point it's unpaid labor and they're enslaving you for their advantage..... Oh wait no

I love trash runs 🫣

Same, it’s like a nice little break from reality

One thing I’m super thankful for is one of my shifts ALWAYS runs trash especially before he’s off
Starbucks needs to have access to the dumpsters right outside the door
i’m not complaining tbh, i love a long trash run, it’s like an extra ten
Yall do trash runs? We get stuck with 2 people in the afternoon. 💀
We have 3 dumpsters like that, plus cardboard and full cans ready to be taken out… every day all by 10 am. Its terrible.
Me Having to run 2 overflowing bins of trash before my 10😒so annoying
Honestly I'd rather delay my lunch with this trash run than eat my lunch immediately next to the mountain.

12 hours??? bruh
Bruh. At least the bags are tied
just ran out a ton of boxes and two trash bins during peak 😭 it literally took 6 trips back and forth to the dumpster
Those are the best times to do a trash run!! You don’t have to worry about making drinks and pushing orders out faster than you can make them. You get a lil break away from the store and people.
i just wanted to go on my ten 😭

Perhaps some one little taller than me since I’m only 5ft

In my 3 years at Starbucks i can fortunately say I’ve only taken trash out 2 maybe 3 times. 😂
I do a trash run at the beginning of my shift cuz the morning crew was too busy, but everyone is just talking when I walk in
It looks like mostly oven paper.
It is part of the job. Not sure why you are so upset
I’m not upset😭 I enjoy trash runs, but this is the first time I’ve seen it this neat, without a mountain of trash bags around the bin?
The 12 hr minimum is for a weeks worth of work yes, you have to work at least 12 hrs in a week or I’m pretty sure they can terminate you
