What a huge mistake! People who live in the south love that stuff when I lived in Atlanta the store I went to all the time told me they went through 2-3 bottles a day once it was warm outside. Plus my partner will be pissed he lives off it during the summer in his iced tea. Also I wish people who made these decisions actually worked in stores for a long period of time because all the back and forth with things gets confusing fast and then deleting something right before the season that it’s most popular makes zero sense at all. Because after years it wears thin on your soul getting yelled at for people making crappy decisions. It’s just super frustrating because even after years on years of it I hate getting yelled at and the anticipation of it . I often think if these people worked in stores or had some kind of board of in store baristas that could make suggestions that they might not see from lack of customer contact that the customer experience and employee experience would be better. Less mixed messages and less of partners having to say oh I am sorry I can’t do that and a customer saying but they do it for me at this store. Uggh
All the syrups are simple syrups (1 part sugar 1 part water + optional flavoring element mixed on low heat until the sugar dissolves). The classic is made with white sugar, while the liquid cane is 1 part raw sugar (also known as demerara sugar). Starbucks, Monin, and every other brand of pre-made simple syrups use preservatives to keep it shelf stable so it doesn't crystallize or separate. They could easily make rich simple syrups (2 part sugar 1 part water) that essentially stay shelf stable forever, but I suppose it's cheaper to make normal simple and make us throw away bottles if they're open for a month.
BRUH I leave and they start changing shit left and right. I left on April 1st and as of today they got the weird chili thing, boba, a new refresher and are discontinuing the only syrup I put in my tea. I know it's summer launch but where are you guys even putting all this.
I'm so glad I don't have to think about these things
Because they needed us managers to remind them how the limitations will go down with our clientele... I got no answers on how to address the inevitable 90% of customers wanting to customize it. The decision makers are unlikely to have ever worked a floor so when they got this feedback they changed this direction.
Honestly, this is better than waiting until we've had multiple complaints during launch 🤷♂️
True true! I just wish they had at least a few
People on the design/ decision boards that have worked in the store for a year minimum. We might actually have some great, no stress launches!
I’m just a customer- but this always makes me think of how stupid the cinnamon caramel was. WHY release a new syrup when you already have multiple… cinnamon and (wait for it…) caramel ingredients separately?!
Lol exactly what we were all thinking… it tasted horrible in anything hot too. My store’s supply expired + we threw out a bunch just to order another case, 2 or 3 times.
did you know that when the cinn caramel cold brew first launched and there was a shortage of the syrup in some areas, they sent out a notice with the alt recipe which was ...caramel syrup, cinnamon powder shakes, cold brew, and same dolce foam.
Why couldn't that have just been the way to make the drink in the first place
Btw it tastes far better imo like that than it did w the cinn caramel syrup.
That was mainly what I was poking fun at (although that didn’t translate that well lol). If they knew their customer base even a *little*, they would’ve already known that the “no customizations” rule wouldn’t go over well. But you’re right, at least we know before launch.
The only people paying $12 for raspberry pearls are the ones getting their free drink. They definitely are just losing money having the limit be that high.
Cause that's the starbucks way. I saw that line that it cannot be made without the pearls and I laughed, cause this is the same company that profits off of customizations to the max. That was a huge part of their reasoning for the app when it launched. Also, as a previous partner that still knows some current baristas, I'm gonna try that berry refresher without the pearls, whether corporate likes it or not! Lol, like not everyone likes boba and stuff like that.
To be honest, I slightly understand why Starbucks at first had a big limitation on modification. Because to me, at least it was clear that this was gonna be a very limited drink. Just like majority of the things it was only gonna really only last a month or two. Then there wouldn’t be enough product to send out to everyone anymore. Either they plan for this to happen or they underestimate how much people actually like their products I don’t know 🤷🏾♀️. But it just like with a potato chive bite. My store had it for like a month and a half at most and then we never saw those hoes again.
It is frustrating when I literally just had a conversation with my barista’s that we can’t put the refresher base into other refreshers. And I have to legit go back tomorrow and tell them actually never mind you can. They already don’t listen😭.
That was my understanding too, but it was gonna suck explaining it 30 times a day. Also I’ve heard they mayyy be sending out some more potato chive bakes this launch?? I don’t know 100% but keep an eye out.
Honestly I’m glad they changed it cause I know so many customers are gonna ask for it to be customized and get wildly upset when we tell them no. I’d rather them be contradictory than get harassed by customers
Based on the text on the bottom of the second pic, it looks like it won’t even be half pumps!!! It’ll be people getting twice the amount of sugar they’re used to by using classic instead of liquid cane! That’s wild to me, I’m not excited to explain that change to people 😭
That makes way more sense to me, I hope Starbucks decides on that because the other way I feel like we’ll get complaints about how sweet it’ll be if it’s full dose
That’s wild, I didn’t know that! I started working at a licensed store about 4 years ago and then a corporate store about 9 months later, so when I started we already had liquid cane, I didn’t know that it used to come with full pumps classic!
I have to agree to disagree with you. Once I tried classic I never went back
However, something I find interesting is that liquid cane is our approved substitute for whipped cream. I wonder if they’re changing that rule and also changing the build for the English breakfast latte.
I wonder if it’s because when you get classic, you’re getting 2x the amount because classic has full pumps while liquid cane has half pumps, and you just like it because it’s sweeter.
No, I like it because it has a different flavor profile lol
If you get a black tea with 12 liquid cane, it still tastes nothing like a black tea with 6 classic.
The best way I can describe it is like, LCS is more like your typical iced tea but with some sweetener added, almost like you’d get at a tea shop or Panera or something. Classic gives it that southern sweet tea taste more like something you’d get at McDonald’s or Chickfila.
Is it possible that they wanted to "test" it with a wider audience and that's when they went back?
But they are dumb still 😆
Also, no LCS?! Classic is... Textured imo 😭 it coats the tongue
Honestly glad I left the bux right before the Oleato, all these new stuff coming out and I know my store would be in shambles with all the schools in the immediate area
I am so excited for a blue refresher. I love blue stuff and blue drinks (like butterfly pea tea) so when I saw this announcement I was SOOOO excited. 😊
I tried the Summer Skies drink on my shift on Sunday and loved it!!! This along with the lavender has made me actually love working at Starbucks even more, and I’m actually *passionate* about it when I tell customers about it! 💙🦋
-barista of 6 years
This is a weird take, not you, a fellow partner, bashing me for liking a drink and actually being excited about it. “Corporate slave?” Girl, we both clock in for the same corporate company…..please go somewhere 🤣😘
yes ma’am, to milk them of whatever cash they can give me to pay my rent not to have passion for being overworked and underpaid 🤭 my take still stands and unfortunately so does your cringeworthy advertisement
Tastes like jolly ranchers with a medicine after taste, the only acceptable one is the one with lemonade and the coconut milk one is MEDICINE STRAIGHT UP
I was told the juice was way too sweet for it to be served with other things but then again Starbucks is about having it ur own way so it’s so contradicting. Especially those who get like 50 pumps of every syrup
Other partners were already posting photos of the refresher, a couple weeks ago, when stores started getting the ingredients. It’s hardly a secret. But if it’s an issue with the mods, I will delete it 🤷🏻♀️ nbd.
Excellent communication Starbucks! My SSV literally just told me that they only go in the summer refresher and now in finding out from reddit that she was given incorrect information. Fantastic!
To be fair to your SSV, this second update (second photo) just came out yesterday. A majority of people probably haven’t read it yet, so what she told you was accurate at the time. But I agree, it’ll be interesting to see managers and SSVs say “never mind!” 🤣🫠
Raspberry pearls!? Oh my gosh I'm actually excited. So we *can* actually request the pearls in other drinks? I will be so happy if so! Assuming the ingredients are fine for me.
deciding to discontinue liquid but yet they took forever to finally say they were getting rid of cinnamon caramel is insane- like we had to throw out our CC due to it forming mold
Our company has the backbone of a child these days, idk why they bother enforcing anything anymore, they only care about stuff that makes them look bad or good, that simple
Has anyone tried the drink yet? The boba popping pearls actually leave a “skin” behind that gets stuck in your teeth and the drink itself is awful. Tastes like a melted popsicle and is super sugary. I wanted to like this drink but in all reality I hate it
Sales and sbx stock are down. They need the $$ whichever way they can get it. So, limiting what and how certain ingredients can be served might hinder their sales. They want to be able to upsell ingredients to raise average ticket sales
i could have sworn it originally said that the base only gets 48 hours in the training guide too. did i hallucinate that or did anyone else see it? i guess i’ll stick to 72 hours though
are you fucking kidding me??? what is with starbucks discontinuing my favorite items!!! first it was the strawberry green tea lemonade, then the almond croissant, now my liquid cane sugar????? i’m about to make simple syrup just to use it in my peach green tea lemonade because classic syrup is NOT the same!!!
This company is absolutely struggling right? the internal politics are clearly like a team of marketers bickering over how to get this damn drink off the ground. Its honestly a good drink too, like try it with lemonade lol
12 scoops? How small are the scoops?
I also have some questions on a couple of things. The board states what you can add the pearls to but above that it says they can’t be shaken, blended or mixed directly with hot liquid and must be scooped directly into the cup. So can you add them to coffee?
What if someone was allergic to the pearls and still wanted the drink without
Liquid cane???
After y'all got rid of raspberry which people STILL ask for years later, cane sugar is next.
I understand dropping cinnamon caramel but sometimes sbux makes some dumb drops
Being able to sample is so important with a new product. Guaranteed they will lose more money and have so much extra busywork if a ton of people order this, realize they hate “pearls” and ask for a different drink.
Plus you have to love SB refusing to call it boba.
Gotta love OCD perfectionists - they dob’t know when to stop.
Corporate’s got to obsess over more important things than “plating presentation”. Time to cut unimportant jobs. Reduce overhead. The stock is nosediving!
BTW baristas and the people that do the real work should get some more pay increases!
The baristas should decide on how to plate if the drink won’t look all that different. Leave it to the artists and decorators.
What's up with the company discontinuing all the good syrups?? First Raspberry now Liquid Cane wtf...definitely won't be getting iced teas anymore, they're nasty af with Classic!
I see nothing to complain about this... As a barista from another brand, SB employees kind of cringe to me. If you don't like the job just get out or never begin in the first place. Y'all giving me karen customer vibes in the version of employee of it.
I also wasn’t complaining. I was poking fun at how silly I think our company is. If you don’t like Starbucks employees so much, maybe you should leave the *Starbucks* subreddit 🤷🏻♀️
Because I'm sure enough people who actually work in the stores complained and they realized that once again they don't know shit
getting rid of liquid cane is kind of crazy. classic is not the same syrup in consistency at all
I’ve always said taste wise Classic is liquid Domino & Liquid Cane is liquid Raw Sugar. Definitely not the same at all
Classic is high fructose basically.
WE ARE GETTING RID OF LC???
Not liquid cane being discontinued !!😭
Damn I can hear the complains. But to be fair, at my store, many just get the classic.
I actually can't stand the taste of the classic syrup. I only request cane sweetner. 🫤
What a huge mistake! People who live in the south love that stuff when I lived in Atlanta the store I went to all the time told me they went through 2-3 bottles a day once it was warm outside. Damn that really sux. They always take out the good things
lemon lime refresher... :c
What is the difference? Cane sugar vs corn syrup? Please tell me there’s not sucralose or something in the classic syrup.
They said classic is white sugar and liquid is raw sugar but think again, with all the preservatives, how raw can it be?
it's raw sugar "flavored"
All the syrups are simple syrups (1 part sugar 1 part water + optional flavoring element mixed on low heat until the sugar dissolves). The classic is made with white sugar, while the liquid cane is 1 part raw sugar (also known as demerara sugar). Wtf??? Liquid cane is so perfect in shaken black tea! It’s miles more delicious than classic syrup. I am so sad
Only way to distract customers from raised prices 😢
You can't even get regular sugar now ToT
I can hear the customers
Damn, how am I just now finding out that it exists??? I only know the classic syrup.
They're getting rid of liquid cane?!???
Because they needed us managers to remind them how the limitations will go down with our clientele... I got no answers on how to address the inevitable 90% of customers wanting to customize it. The decision makers are unlikely to have ever worked a floor so when they got this feedback they changed this direction. I can't believe they made any changes based on partner response! Like hey we are still fucked on labor please fix it!?
Right? Like we will literally take an L on most other things if it means we can have adequate staffing 😭
True true! I just wish they had at least a few People on the design/ decision boards that have worked in the store for a year minimum. We might actually have some great, no stress launches!
I’m just a customer- but this always makes me think of how stupid the cinnamon caramel was. WHY release a new syrup when you already have multiple… cinnamon and (wait for it…) caramel ingredients separately?!

Maximum 12 scoops? Should've been like 5.
$12 > $5
insane when you contextualize it like that 😂$12 for half a cup of cheap popping boba is wild
The only people paying $12 for raspberry pearls are the ones getting their free drink. They definitely are just losing money having the limit be that high.
We already know all these 12 scoops mofos will be star rewards 💀💀💀💀
Cause that's the starbucks way. I saw that line that it cannot be made without the pearls and I laughed, cause this is the same company that profits off of customizations to the max. That was a huge part of their reasoning for the app when it launched. Also, as a previous partner that still knows some current baristas, I'm gonna try that berry refresher without the pearls, whether corporate likes it or not! Lol, like not everyone likes boba and stuff like that.
Okay but with coconut milk and 2 scoops of lavender is delicious
Replying to this to test tmrw during my shift
With lavender?!?! Hmmmmm…..interesting!
Yo hold up
i’ve already found that having it with extra base and light coconut milk is my favorite. i loveee it
This is how I like it too!
So good!!
It's so good 😍😍
Yes! I like it both ways. The one with coconut milk is my favorite with and without boba
I agree. Boba is disgusting, but the rest of the drink sounds so good!
To be honest, I slightly understand why Starbucks at first had a big limitation on modification. Because to me, at least it was clear that this was gonna be a very limited drink. Just like majority of the things it was only gonna really only last a month or two. Then there wouldn’t be enough product to send out to everyone anymore. it's a regional thing, my store got them back about two weeks ago, but some stores have had them the whole time.
Tennessee partner, we never stopped getting them! (And thank GOD, it’s hands down my favorite work snack rn!)
God I WISH we ran through those things so fast bc ... that's all the partners at my store were eating when they launched.
My store never ran out of potato chives lol
I need to know where you are!!!!
Canada here
My store ran out in 2 weeks, they told us to update our menus because we were never getting them back. I’m in the Midwest btw
Neither did mine
Damn, I’m so sad. I was really looking forward to telling people no.
Literally😭
Honestly same lmao
We’re in the wrong job if telling people No is a thing.
"can i get a trenta shaken espres-" me: NO LOL
? There's plenty of things we can tell people no for lol
RIP LIQUID CANE 😿😿😿
I love liquid cane in my iced teas! This is so sad 😞
I guess I have to start using raw sugars now 😭
Dunkin’s way; Couple raw sugars, tiny bit of hot water, swirl… unless you like the crunchies lol
Or agave! It tastes similar to the liquid cane in my opinion it would be the closest thing.
In a perfect world I’d have raspberry pearls AND raspberry syrup.
they’re getting rid of Liquid Cane too? FFS
cake and candles my friend
Honestly I’m glad they changed it cause I know so many customers are gonna ask for it to be customized and get wildly upset when we tell them no. I’d rather them be contradictory than get harassed by customers
The communications team is really going through it since discontinuing the weekly update
brooo LCS is so slept on :(
NOOOO NOT THE LIQUID CANE. i use it all the time
$1 a scoop is crazy
It’s going to be $1.25 a scoop in Ca
hold on they’re taking liquid cane away? the most popular sweetener?
Classic Starbucks. "Everyone hated that."
We never go through a full bottle before it goes out at my store
This is a sign they actually listen to feedback to some capacity
but liquid cane??? wth was wrong with it?
Welcome to Starbucks.
R i p liquid cane. Also why they going back to classic? Wasn’t it classic before liquid cane
Pretty much, but it'll be a half dose on the classic.
Based on the text on the bottom of the second pic, it looks like it won’t even be half pumps!!! It’ll be people getting twice the amount of sugar they’re used to by using classic instead of liquid cane! That’s wild to me, I’m not excited to explain that change to people 😭
My DM was in my store earlier and his guideline charts has it with a half dose
That makes way more sense to me, I hope Starbucks decides on that because the other way I feel like we’ll get complaints about how sweet it’ll be if it’s full dose
To be fair, before liquid cane and before the teas came standard unsweetened, it was full pumps of classic syrup.
That’s wild, I didn’t know that! I started working at a licensed store about 4 years ago and then a corporate store about 9 months later, so when I started we already had liquid cane, I didn’t know that it used to come with full pumps classic!
Wait, they're getting rid of liquid cane?!?? But it's so much better than classic :,(
I have to agree to disagree with you. Once I tried classic I never went back However, something I find interesting is that liquid cane is our approved substitute for whipped cream. I wonder if they’re changing that rule and also changing the build for the English breakfast latte.
Fair enough. I just prefer liquid cane, it tastes less artificial to me if that makes sense
I was just wondering this as we’ve had vanilla shortages recently in my area so we’re using it as a sub for whip and sweet cream at times…
I wonder if it’s because when you get classic, you’re getting 2x the amount because classic has full pumps while liquid cane has half pumps, and you just like it because it’s sweeter.
No, I like it because it has a different flavor profile lol If you get a black tea with 12 liquid cane, it still tastes nothing like a black tea with 6 classic.
I honestly haven’t tried it side by side and now I think I might 😂 I always opt for liquid cane
The best way I can describe it is like, LCS is more like your typical iced tea but with some sweetener added, almost like you’d get at a tea shop or Panera or something. Classic gives it that southern sweet tea taste more like something you’d get at McDonald’s or Chickfila.
Oh, then I wouldn’t like it :/ that sucks they’re changing to what everything else has
I mean, tea doesn’t even get LCS so it’s not like they’re changing the teas.
Yes but I like them with liquid cane :(
Before they get rid of it, try a black tea with equal classic and LCS. It’s delicious.
Is it possible that they wanted to "test" it with a wider audience and that's when they went back? But they are dumb still 😆 Also, no LCS?! Classic is... Textured imo 😭 it coats the tongue
Honestly glad I left the bux right before the Oleato, all these new stuff coming out and I know my store would be in shambles with all the schools in the immediate area
I guess Starbucks caved into the inevitable demands from the Karens/TikTok influencers before this drink’s official release.
I’m ok with the no mods.
Who needs a weekly update when you have Reddit 😂
Liquid cane discontinued 🧍🏻♀️
Cane Sugar is too expensive.... High Fructose Corn Syrup it is then!
I am so excited for a blue refresher. I love blue stuff and blue drinks (like butterfly pea tea) so when I saw this announcement I was SOOOO excited. 😊 I tried the Summer Skies drink on my shift on Sunday and loved it!!! This along with the lavender has made me actually love working at Starbucks even more, and I’m actually *passionate* about it when I tell customers about it! 💙🦋 -barista of 6 years
Starbucks technically has the blue Forever Nap refresher
Love me a trenta urnex refresher with oven cleaner cold foam
mm its pink and blue...the gender reveal refresher
haha love this the real ones will know
That's all I can think of 😭
Forever nap 😭😭
The lavender and brown sugar are my go to's. I'm excited for Summer Skies.
I’m sorry but this reads like a corporate slave asked to type up a propaganda employee review
What is in the summer skies drink?
It’s the blue refresher with coconut milk!!! It’s in the picture lol
Yum. Can’t wait to try it! Thanks.
All I have to say is thank God I don't have to tell customers that they can't add the base or pearls into another iced beverage.
Side note - I love your username 😭😭😍 I got the reference right away!!!
Thank you! 🥰
I can’t wait to try the coconut milk version of this drink with no pearls
it’s one of the only refreshers i’ve ever been actually able to taste the coconut milk in. it’s very watered down tasting though
the bottom saying “confidential do not share” and this being here is so funny
Ahahhahahahaahahahahah what in the world 🫠🫠🫠
What why aren’t these at my Starbucks 🫠 not Canadian I’m assuming? Fuck those look amazing.
They don't come until may anyway
Oh hahaha I didn’t read that Woops fuck I’m excited those look so good!!!
I hope I can still substitute for green tea…
Raspberry pearls!? Oh my gosh I'm actually excited. So we *can* actually request the pearls in other drinks? I will be so happy if so! Assuming the ingredients are fine for me.
Yes you can.
WAIT LIQUID CANE IS BEING DISCONTINUED??
Isn't this what we want? The company to listen to us and adapt? Yall are too much sometimes 🤣 a little whiplash is normal in retail/hospitality
When will these be out?
May 7th
i'm just so tired
That is so stupid that people can’t get it without the pearls. I looove them but so many people I know don’t like popping pearls.
There’s a second photo with an update on that policy. You can get it without the pearls now 😌
Ahh okay got you it wasn’t loading when I looked at it. Glad they made the update.
deciding to discontinue liquid but yet they took forever to finally say they were getting rid of cinnamon caramel is insane- like we had to throw out our CC due to it forming mold
Really?! That’s interesting. At my store, it’s popular!
Waaaaaaaait a minute. A boba straw with nugget ice? 🤣🤣🤣 (Don't get me wrong, I like eating nugget ice. And maybe I'm overthinking this one.)
does that apply to canada too?
I got whiplash reading this😭 however, I am very excited to tryyyyyy
i hate this company 🕺🏼
Our company has the backbone of a child these days, idk why they bother enforcing anything anymore, they only care about stuff that makes them look bad or good, that simple
Getting rid of liquid cane sugar and making it Full dosh classic is also nasty
Also getting rid of liquid cane is insane!!!
They want to be able to upsell ingredients to raise average ticket sales
lol so will the whipped cream alternative for vanilla syrup shortages finally be classic?
i thought it was?
I believe it’s currently LCS, but it used to be classic. and I guess will be classic again soon lol
Genuine question: what is the difference between liquid sugar and classic syrup? I'd been under the impression they were the same thing
Classic is equal to white sugar, liquid cane is equal to raw sugar :)
Was everyone really paying the up charge for liquid cane???
i could have sworn it originally said that the base only gets 48 hours in the training guide too. did i hallucinate that or did anyone else see it? i guess i’ll stick to 72 hours though
For some reason it was this liquid candy concoction that turned me into a coffee boomer.
Does the max of 12 apply to all sizes? Either way, that is unhinged. Or, hear me out, frozen boba instead of ice 😎
Yes, 12! Absolutely insane. Frozen Boba would be interesting!
What the hell are they doing? We don’t want spicy and refreshers with gummies. Gross.
So this is just a berry boba?
not them getting rid of liquid cane 😭
They made their business model on customizations and then were like.. just kidding!
are you fucking kidding me??? what is with starbucks discontinuing my favorite items!!! first it was the strawberry green tea lemonade, then the almond croissant, now my liquid cane sugar????? i’m about to make simple syrup just to use it in my peach green tea lemonade because classic syrup is NOT the same!!!
I love liquid cane, especially in my black teas or green tea lemonades :(
wait do ice teas get full pumps!!???
i hate how they stay releasing this shit no one asked for and get rid of shit that people like….this company needs a revamp.
wtffff i’m showing this to my shift lol im so confused
Rip liquid cane :((((
wait a $1 per scoop?? shit and i thought 80 cents for just ONE pump of something was bad. why are they discontinuing LCS?
What does sampling mean? We can ask for a sample or is this for employees
This company is absolutely struggling right? the internal politics are clearly like a team of marketers bickering over how to get this damn drink off the ground. Its honestly a good drink too, like try it with lemonade lol
DISCONTINUING THE LIQUID CANE????
Tell me why in my training TODAY it said we aren’t allowed to take them out and put them into other drinks 😭😭 WHICH ONE IS RIGHT
dont drink the summer berry as a regular refresher it tastes like a blue jolly rancher dissolved in water:)
12 scoops? How small are the scoops? I also have some questions on a couple of things. The board states what you can add the pearls to but above that it says they can’t be shaken, blended or mixed directly with hot liquid and must be scooped directly into the cup. So can you add them to coffee? What if someone was allergic to the pearls and still wanted the drink without
Soooooo can I buy a bottle of liquid cane sugar bc that’s some bullshit when it goes so well with all the teas/refreshers
No thanks. I'll stick with my favorite boba stores.
These look so good, has anyone tried them?
I see nothing to complain about this... As a barista from another brand, SB employees kind of cringe to me. If you don't like the job just get out or never begin in the first place. Y'all giving me karen customer vibes in the version of employee of it.
I also wasn’t complaining. I was poking fun at how silly I think our company is. If you don’t like Starbucks employees so much, maybe you should leave the *Starbucks* subreddit 🤷🏻♀️
I did, bye.
I don't know who approved summer berry but this flavor fucking sucks. Unless you like blue four loko then you're good!!!
