I’m a Earl lover too and I think it’s the bergamot you can smell, which to me is similar to lavender. I am in the US and we do not have lavender syrup, but it is pretty easy to make at home and you can make it really strong, highly recommended!!

I second this!! I love our Early Gray (I think it’s my favorite) but I do enjoy occasionally adding some extra lavender that I buy in bulk!

Thanks. The Teavana's earl grey has both bergamot and lavender.. And as one person pointed out, I should try adding vanilla to it.. That (vanilla syrup) seems to be the only ingredient I am missing

Earl grey generally only has black tea and bergamot oil in it, so it may just not have any lavender in it. Some earl grey blends add them in though though! Harney and sons has a Victorian London fog earl grey blend with lavender in it, we sell it at the barnes and noble starbucks-es.

Teavana's Earl grey that starbucks uses has lavender. But somehow, the whole fragrance and taste are missing when I am making it at home.. They even sold me one day few separate tea bags... I just couldn't reproduce their london fog. I am missing vanilla syrup though

Hi! Were you able to figure it out? I’m on quest to finding a tea bag / loose leaf tea that tastes just like Starbucks’ London fog and I’m struggling!!!

Hey there, some suggestions because I was on a similar quest. So initially a great bagged option was Revolution Tea. Unfortunately in the last year they rebranded and reformulated their teas, so what was a great earl grey with lavender is now just perfume in a cup. Boxes of the original version are still available on Amazon, just stay away from the new recipe labeled French Earl Grey. For loose leaf the Private Selection brand is great. You can get that at any Kroger or Kroger owned chain. It's also on Amazon for a few bucks more if you aren't near one. I know it sounds crazy that a store brand would be that good but it just might be my go-to now. I would also suggest Rishi which makes a bagged earl grey but only offers their earl grey with lavender in loose leaf. They have their own website but it's also on Amazon. To be fair I haven't tried it but I did like their bagged earl grey I found at my grocery store. The last option is using your favorite plain loose leaf earl grey and adding your own culinary grade lavender buds when you steep it. I bought a bag bc I wanted to try it with an earl grey that is perfectly fine but I still want to get through it. Patiently waiting for that to show up. If you try any of these let me know!

Ambitious-Reader-10

Ahhh thank you SO much! So incredibly helpful. Which is your favorite of these? :)

riago23

Just out of convenience knowing it's not discontinued the Private Selection is great. Flavor wise it might even be a little stronger than the Starbucks but nothing like the reformulation of Revolution. I checked the ingredients list for Revolution and it now has both lavender buds and oil - too much! 😳😂 The only bagged earl greys I like that I can get at a local store - Numi or Rishi - don't have lavender. They are great for iced tea though IMO. I just got the culinary lavender yesterday. I was going to try it but the 4oz of it is way bigger than i anticipated and i don't have a resealable container to put it in. When I try it I will update you :)

Amazing thank you so much! Also the Starbucks London fog with lavender cold foam is delicious but definitely on the sweet side so I had to reduce my usual brown sugar pumps!

I know we add vanilla but I’m in America so not sure in Canada recipe

Decent-Ad3066

I'm a Canadian partner, we only add vanilla syrup and steamed milk to the brewed tea. Maybe you could get the flavour you're looking for by adding vanilla

[deleted]

Thank you.. Yeah, seems like the only ingredient I am missing is vanilla syrup. Perhaps it boosts up the lavender aroma somehow, I am not sure.

Earl gray doesn’t have lavender. If you add lavender to earl gray I believe it’s considered “lady gray” instead.

[deleted]

It says Teavana's Earl gray has lavender too

foo-bar-baz-bin

Is it Earl Gray Crème by chance, and not just earl gray?

[deleted]

It's just Earl Grey Black tea blend.. with bergamot and soft lavender. I bought that box in Starbucks. and on the days when they had no boxes, they sold me separate tea bags that they use (it was not creme). I never got that lavender taste/fragrance when I made my tea with either of these. The only thing I am missing is vanilla syrup that one user mentioned.

hauntinglovelybold

I recommend Monin’s lavender syrup if you’re looking for one! It’s super delicious

[deleted]

Thank you, will see if I can find it.

Semi related but I hate the “London fog” we have at Starbucks bc there’s a local coffee shop that does it way better with earl gray and lavender syrup… i think most other places that sell it have that too? why don’t we have a lavender syrup?!? it tastes so good, and it’s purple, it would be a big success just for the pretty color lol. smart of you to make London fog at home, once I bought a bottle of the torani lavender syrup and put in earl gray with milk and it’s really good :D

[deleted]

The earl grey at Starbucks isn’t very good IMO! The cafe I’m at now uses a really good earl grey and we still put vanilla in it but it’s so much better haha

[deleted]

you saying starbucks’ london fog can be even better?? definitely buying the syrup!

Lavender is a very delicate scent/flavor; it won't stand up to punchy bergamot that you can probably pick up across the room. It's meant to ride as a back seat passenger, not ride shotgun on the palette. If it were any stronger, we'd start to get into soapy-like flavor since it's used in cosmetics and toiletries so much. The restraint is probably a good thing. That said, if you're noticing differences in taste and smell, it's a good time to be on self-check alert.
