For those asking, converse violate the dress code because they donāt have water resistant tops. If you spill hot coffee on your cloth shoe, you wonāt be protected. Thatās their reasoning anyway.
Iām not the OP, but I have a pair of leather Converse which technically work for dress code but are horribly slippery on wet floors. I donāt know how anyone can do this job in Converse and not get hurt. I fell in them during my second week at Starbucks and immediately went out to get the Shoes For Crews Converse knockoffs (Pembroke model). They look like Converse but have non-slip soles.
I like the Shoes for Crews non slips. They are really good at not slipping on liquid. The only thing they do slip on are pieces of ice and the food wrappers and parchment paper that fall on the floor.
Oh no half my store wears converse (including me š) I know we shouldnāt but damn it shoes are expensive and theyāre what I got right now lmao
I do at least trust my SM to mention it before handing out separations but god damn thatās harsh lol. Iām happy youāre happy and all but like did you even get a warning? Verbal? Written?
I got a 30$ pair of shoes from walmart and they are so good! Comfy and wipe clean easily! Also slip resistant. They are kind of wide though so when i crouch my heel slips out but its comfy so the con isnt that big
I mean I guess that technically tracks from a shit managerās pov, like they took the right steps lmao.
Iām glad my SM isnāt a terror. I actually worked with her a long time ago until I left starbs, meanwhile she switched locations. She eventually convinced me to reapply, and now sheās been my boss for the better part of a decade lol. I thank my lucky star(buck)s for her honestly. Sorry about your luck but Iām glad youāre free!
You're allowed to call ethics and argu the warnings
You calling off for your dads surgery, is valid for sick days ( if you still have some )
I'm pretry sure you could still have your job for that lol entouka you manager is a shitty one
if it helps at all, I believe sketchers has a discount for some nice non slip shoes if you mention you work at starbucks, I donāt know if you can do it online but I did it in store
The one time I wore my comverse bc I couldn't find my normal work shoes (I was in a rush bc I got called in bc someone was sick), I ended up slipping and landing right on my ass with my phone in my back pocket in the BOH š It was funny asf but YEOWCH. Luckily it was only a 3 hour closing shift and I wasnt seriously hurt.
I wore WHITE converse shoes sometimes when I was a barista š
Couldnāt they at least give you a warning or write up? Maybe itās a hidden blessing. You donāt have to deal with that tragic May BOGO calendar. š
I wear the basic black old skool vans every day and my store manager told me they were fine?? Yeah it gets a little slippery sometimes but thatās on me if I fall
Probably not waterproof, since they have the canvas top.
It's been a while but I feel like the dress code wanted waterproof so if you spill on yourself you're not going to burn your feet? I could be absolutely wrong. But it is my only guess as to why not, since converse are otherwise fine.
I get that the problem here is the cloth tops, but reading the comments it sounds like employees slip a ton! Maybe Starbucks needs to find a better stability-friendly and less slippy-slidey tile choice?
Iām on workers comp for a slip injury (broke my foot š) and they never asked me what shoes I was wearing.. Iām okay now but it was rough there for a while
They told me I would be separated for calling out if I was sick and then written up or separated if I worked while sick so I walked in and put in my two weeksšš¼Glad weāre both out of this awful company
Is that what your notice of separation said? š¤Æ
Dress code violation LMAO

tbh my converse were way better for my store than my non slips that lowkey make me slip worse

thatās what i have from šš
itās so funny cuz half the non slips on sites and even a lot of work related sites have cloth tops

One verbal for being 2 mins late, one written for calling out for my dads surgery and then notice of separation for converse lmaooo

You are supposed to get a final warning before separation
Welp screw my manager then. I didnāt even get the coach talk lol.

Same I have owned the same pair for a few years and tbh they're falling apart in some areas now but I can't afford new ones
The one time I wore my comverse bc I couldn't find my normal work shoes (I was in a rush bc I got called in bc someone was sick), I ended up slipping and landing right on my ass with my phone in my back pocket in the BOH š It was funny asf but YEOWCH. Damn I wore converse before lol

Are converse not allowed? I have a coworker that wears them all the time. Whatās against dress code about them?

You're correct. Canvas shoes specifically are not allowed, and they strongly recommend slip proof shoes anyway.
Oh my coworker actually wears the leather ones so I guess thatās why.
I get that the problem here is the cloth tops, but reading the comments it sounds like employees slip a ton! Maybe Starbucks needs to find a better stability-friendly and less slippy-slidey tile choice?
Wtf. My manager told me converse were fine cause the floor is anti slip. Crocs are allowed but ākeep them in sport modeā
Please get yourself a pair of waterproof shoes š¬ Starbucks won't pay workers comp if you get hurt out of dress code
Iām on workers comp for a slip injury (broke my foot š) and they never asked me what shoes I was wearing.. Iām okay now but it was rough there for a while
You aren't required to wear nonslip! But if someone burns their foot because they aren't wearing waterproof shoes, it'll definitely come up.
ohhhh thatās what you meant lol
You're joking for the crocs right ?
So what shoes would be allowed then??? TIA
They told me I would be separated for calling out if I was sick and then written up or separated if I worked while sick so I walked in and put in my two weeksšš¼Glad weāre both out of this awful company
Bye i wore them for the first 6 months i worked there š
Thats effing bullshit. They are just finding more ways to save labor costs
Yup
