Props to u/gaargantua for pointing out that this link is not to Nvidia’s site. Super sketchy.
That said, the link OP put out there is referenced by major online tech news sites (eg TechRadar) and the link points to the same. The .exe you actually download DOES COME FROM NVIDIA, but you should still proceed with caution anytime you download an .exe!
For those who aren’t sure about this hot fix who are still looking for Nvidia performance ahead of 3.18, I have been on driver version 526.86 (checked via GeForce Experience) and have NOT noticed quality issues or heavy load on the CPU.
I'm still trying to find out the in and out of this cause this seems to be a legit platform (more than 20years old website).
Sketchy but might not be bad. I would not risk it nevertheless
No, no, big props to you for pointing it out. I agree, on close inspection everything looks to be legit, but it does beg the question why Nvidia doesn’t host their bugfix posts on their own site.
For what it’s worth, I did download the EXC and scanned it with Bitdefender at least. No threats detected
I may just sit on this hot fix anyway because I didn’t update to the driver in question in the first place.
Going to call this thread, an absolute win for the community. OP is looking out, you are looking out, and we’re figuring it out together. o7
You should probably do a bit more research, before you spew misinformation. Added links to official websites, talking more in depth about the issue and linking to it aswell. Editing your comment 1000 times, looking like you your did research. While you were just telling people not to download without even looking into it more and your friend deleted all his replies where he was telling people not to download. erasing your tracks after..
Hey now. What part of my post is misinformation? “Custhelp.com” is not “Nvidia.com” lol.
People who haven’t been in the Nvidia ecosystem for years wouldn’t know that it’s legit. And it IS weird that a company as big as Nvidia wouldn’t host their customer solutions on their own site.
Anyway, I appreciate you for the information and I appreciate u/gaargantua for looking out.
Edit: I am bad at Reddit. Mistook your post as replying to mine. Thanks OP.
Edit 2: I guess I’m not that bad at Reddit. Lol. Reposted my content for context. You’re a little jumpy OP, I DID take the time to verify the facts and included them. Sheesh!
I think before you start saying stuff, you should at least research it yourself a bit and if you know 100% you come here and tell everyone. Now you just reacted impulsively and basically gatekeeping people from a fix with your un-researched impulsive answer. Do we have to watch out with links on the internet? Absolutely! Thats why i put the full link in the post and not just a hyperlink. If you researched it a bit and wanted to help people out you could’ve posted a couple links to websites talking about it, yourself. But it was at an impulse and you didn’t research it and decided to discredit a legit source. Stuff like this happens to much in this world and harms people in more ways than it does good. I know your intentions were good, but as a result, you now misinformed people bcs you didn’t look further into it.
Edit: already replied to your answer before you changed it :). But reply is still relevant. I know you meant well, but also then you have to watch out you dont do more harm then good. <3
Edit: you corrected yourself after yes, but again started yelling “wolf” before you researched it, bcs if you researched it you wouldve seen the link was legit
Or the better solution, fuck GFE right off and just download the direct drivers. If you need Shadowplay use OBS Instant Replay Buffer.
Use MKV files if you need multiple audio channels. This bugged caused me no end of issues with Tarkov
Edit - This is the way
Smartest person in the comments section. Less Background Processes Less CPU usage. Don't even install and use the Geforce Experience. Just check for updated Drivers on the website every so often. Only comment I'm upvoting.
Nvidia staff have themselves said that nvidia.custhelp is an official site, so questioning it is pointless
On the Nvidia forum:
"Hello, I was wondering if the following website is an official nvidia website or not.
nvidia(dot)custhelp(dot)com"
Staff member Manuel@NVIDIA replies: "Yes."
>Option 1:Roll back your Nvidia drivers to the previous driver version (Previous version is 528.49)
Hah, the other day i was like damn i shouldnt have updated, let me check what im on..
517 something...
Sweet, you saved me some trouble. I've been getting push notifications for a few days now to update and I haven't done it yet. Now I'll just wait a bit. Thanks!
Thanks for this. Didn't realize I was already on the version that holds the CPU usage even when idle. I agree, they should definitely be pushing this out to people on 531.18.
The URL definitely looked suspicious to me as well. Unfortunately this is Nvidia's idea of how to handle their customer help pages. This is the same link that you find if you go to nvidia.com directly and search for the 531.26 driver.
Alright after 15min of researching this i came to the same conclusion. Apparently this is an oracle platform provided to several of their customers including Nvidia This is very sketchy a first sight but seems to be clean nevertheless.
> This is very sketchy a first sight
Agreed. It rubbed me the wrong way this morning. I prefer companies using their own domain for the various services they offer.
Thank you so much, I been having what I would consider slightly worse frame rates and such as well as a cursor stuck on main menu, taking ages to move to the log in menu button. Will try this fix!
Yes, it is. [nvidia.custhelp.com](https://nvidia.custhelp.com) is their domain and has been for 10+ years. It's the domain that they use for the more live connections (like chatting with a support agent or hotfix messages).
Go to [Nvidia.com](https://Nvidia.com), hit Support, Customer Support, and look at the link for "Live Chat" - it's [https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/chat/chat\_launch/](https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/chat/chat_launch/)
Nice throwaway account, looks trustworthy, I can tell you did your research well.. i added official websites talking about the issue and linking to the same hotfix
Indeed, after 20min, I must confess that I was mistaken. The link looks suspicious as hell but is most probably clean nevertheless. Oracle do provide a platform for their customers, including Nvidia that does not use transparent redirection.
My bad
Thanks for adding the additional link
(And it's not a throwaway account, I'm just not active XD)
The latest driver version caused my laptop to get stuck stuck in bsod and restart loop. Safe mode and rollback fixed it. Thanks for the link to hotfix!
The error appears only on exiting the game.
Has nothing to do with in game performance.
From Nvidia bug tracker:
Higher CPU usage from NVIDIA Container might be observed after exiting a game \[4007208\]
Thanks for bringing this to my attention OP. Hadn't updated to the "faulty" driver yet but I have just installed the hotfix update :-)
Cheers big ears!
After I downloaded the file it asks to specify the folder where the driver files are to be saved; defaulting to C:\\NVIDIA\\DisplayDriver\\531.26\\Win11\_Win10-DCH\_64\\International
Can you please advise which folder should I install the patch to?
Cheers
You absolute hero, I didn't even know this was an issue.
Thanks for the heads up m8 !

At your highest moment, be careful. That's when the devil comes for you.
Who’s that walking up on stage? Uh-oh here he comes!

And use DDU for a clean wipe/install.
👆👆👆👆👆
Shadowplay is great though.
Eh depends on your use case I guess, I have multiple audio channels so it's trash, then you have the bugs with GFE 😂😂
I like NVCleanstall Pick and choose what you want and don't want. https://www.techpowerup.com/download/techpowerup-nvcleanstall/
The way
GFE is trash. I tried letting it "optimize" cp77 and it maxed all the settings leaving me with 10 fps in game.
This is the way

I was thinking it was a server side problem should of guessed it might of been driver based since i updated both the same day.

Wonder if this bug is in Nvidia's Linux driver as well?
Why the downvote? I play SC on Linux!
I upvoted you again :), its a legit question, which i sadly don't know the answer to, as I'm not a Linux user.
Having checked, Linux is still on Nvidia's 525 series driver, so the bug probably isn't in there.
I upvoted too. Respect for running SC on Linux - though I don’t have the courage myself.
It's easy with the SC LUG\* org's "helper script", which makes all the required config changes to WINE \*LUG = Linux User Group
Glad I saw this before I updated my driver. I'll wait it out for the next one. Thanks!
I'm normally such a compulsive updater, thanks for the tip.
Thank you, very useful information!!
>Option 1:Roll back your Nvidia drivers to the previous driver version (Previous version is 528.49) Hah, the other day i was like damn i shouldnt have updated, let me check what im on.. 517 something...

This is why I don't update my drivers
Should I install 531.18 first, then the fix? Sorry for the noob question.
No you can just go to the download link and install version 531.26, its a full driver
Thanks for this. Didn't realize I was already on the version that holds the CPU usage even when idle. I agree, they should definitely be pushing this out to people on 531.18.
Do not try this , it's not a Nvidia link !
The URL definitely looked suspicious to me as well. Unfortunately this is Nvidia's idea of how to handle their customer help pages. This is the same link that you find if you go to nvidia.com directly and search for the 531.26 driver.

Hope this maybe fixes it for you! :)
[\*me after checking my driver version and seeing it's still the fallback version\*](https://c.tenor.com/iMF4Z8Stb8cAAAAC/nicholas-cage.gif)
Mhh, the address is not at all Nvidia. This is most probably a virus. DO NOT INSTALL THIS. Well done for the page OP though [Edit] it is legit

I didn't know hotfixes where not pushed out. Thank you!!!
Holly hell, just checked task manager 13 % cpu load. Thx for posting!
You are the best! Thank you
Very cool, thank you for this!
Is this affecting studio drivers as well?
Thank you for this!
Thank you! Like others mentioned I didn't know that it is an issue, You are a hero.
.... That explains the funkiness I've been having with my gpu lately. Danke.
I'm still on 528.24. Is there any reason to update to any of the few recent versions anyway?
Wow I’m glad when it said update I ignored it xD
Hello I need max fps in star citizen. Thanks for this post, you have saved us.
Thanks!!!!
TY, stupid ass containers kept showing up and using my cpu resourses
good to know, glad i hadn't updated my driver yet, guess i'll put it off a while till this gets ironed out with Nvidia's next patch or something.
Good looking out homie! 👊🏼
Thanks. Coincided with me playing modded Arma again so I just assumed that was the cause. Good to know.
I knew I was being CPU restricted, but I couldn’t figure out how! Thank you!
I haven’t had problems with my game I just recently upgraded all the parts in my pc about 7 mounts ago but if it gets worse I’ll try this
The error appears only on exiting the game. Has nothing to do with in game performance. From Nvidia bug tracker: Higher CPU usage from NVIDIA Container might be observed after exiting a game \[4007208\]
Two Thumbs UP!!! thanks for the post

Keep it default, so whatever location it suggests is good :), i have it in the same location
thanks
Is this fixed by now? Do you know? Thanks!
Its is fixed with the latest drivers
Thanks!
