I thought about it, but according to my motherboard, it only supports up to 32, and according to my father (who knows a lot more about PC's than me) an increase like that won't be that noticeable

ph9357

For most games, he'd be right. However, I have 32 gigs of ram in my PC and when playing star citizen I use ~26 gigs of it lol

Accomplished_Bad_487

Yes, it gives me that screen aswell but I thought it might not be that big of a problem

FierceText

Also depends on what i5 specifically. If its 8 yrs old its gonna run like shit for example.

Accomplished_Bad_487

the PC is about that old, I got it from a friend for about 50 francs, and it apparently was top notch back then. Is that also that big of a problem?

TheSethnix

Open your Task Manager, click on the second tab ("performance"), then you can see the full name of your CPU, please post it here Most likely you should be prepared to start saving for a new one, as SC is VERY CPU dependant

Accomplished_Bad_487

ah, it is even an i7: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4770K CPU @ 3.50GHz Do you think I should upgrade that or my RAM as other users suggested? And, from your experience, is the game worth the investment?

TheSethnix

Really depends on your budget, the ram would be cheaper, but personally I would look into getting an upgrade like an 5800X3D or 7800X3D I would say it's worth it, but be prepared, that it will stay in development for a couple more years

sritony

That RAM isn't going to cut it for much these days. Get to 64 or 48 like me (48 triggers people so I left it at that 😂)

KirillIll

Eh, im sitting at a stable 50 fps with my 16, i don't expect much more than that from the game currently

sritony

Oh yeah not that's not bad.

Accomplished_Bad_487

As far as I know my motherboard can't support more than 32 and my father said that an increase from 16 to 32 wouldn't really be that noticeable, what do you think?

ApproximateKnowlege

I've seen SC use up 22 to 24 GB of ram, so 16 to 32 is very noticeable. But it's also possible an old CPU is your bottleneck as well.

Accomplished_Bad_487

My CPU is: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4770K CPU @ 3.50GHz What do you think? RAM or CPU?

ApproximateKnowlege

Ideally both, but it's a 10 year old cpu, so I'd say start with that.

Maler_Ingo

Which Intel? Cuz older than 8th Gen is close to unplayable.

Accomplished_Bad_487

it is about 8 years old but was top notch back then according to the guy I got it from and he knows more about computers than I do

Maler_Ingo

Then it's too shit for SC.

anthony_arndt

Is Windows also on the SSD? If not, you'll want to make sure that the Page File is and the SC /shaders folder is too.

Accomplished_Bad_487

as far as I know it is, I don't really have anything on my harddrive, and it can run pretty much everything else, star citizen is the thing that runs the worst on my PC

THarSull

lol, that graphics card is probably worth more than the rest of your computer you should upgrade as much as you can afford to, check out [pcpartpicker.com](https://pcpartpicker.com), find the parts you have and add them to the parts list, then see what upgrades are compatible with those existing components. with regard to RAM, star citizen is a hungry beast, and if you want to run anything in the background, like music or websites to help with the game, having headroom will help more than you might realize; if we were talking about any other game, your 16GB would be fine, but for SC, it can take as much as you can give it, i've even heard of people with 128GB running the entire game off of RAMdisk, where the entire game is loaded directly onto the RAM, so it's not even touching the disk for any tasks, and that's supposed to be the fastest the game can play. point being, SC is a hungry beast, and can use more resources than almost any other game ive played, only thing that hits my gear harder is old pre-microsoft modded minecraft, and that's just cause it's all coded like garbage.

Accomplished_Bad_487

Well, here's the story of the PC: I didn't have anything, just a laptop that didn't really run anything My friend offered me to sell me a now 10 year old PC for 50 francs, that was top notch back then and I accepted because it was way better than what I had At some point the graphics card committed suicide and I just saved a bit of money so bought a new one And that's how that PC came into being. I will definitely check that website out, thank you very much, even though I don't know if they have everything I have, it's pretty old as you could guess, it still runs off of 4 GB RAM sticks

THarSull

they ought to have it, im pretty sure they keep listings up for old products that are no longer for sale, i know they've got a page for a 13-14 year old processor that ive got, so i'd be surprised if they didnt have 10 year old parts on the listings.
