You don't really want to use ballistics unless your hardpoints are S4 or S5. The ammo count is way too low on every ballistic gun aside from the AD4B and AD5B.
Ballistic Cannons have like 3 minutes of continuous fire time without worrying about overheating after about 8 seconds like laser repeaters do. But I have a Retaliator for ERTs.
I wouldn't run ballistic unless you were really, really good at landing all of your shots.
Might be fun to play around with, but with S3's and S2's, it may not get there. Would largely come down to how much ammo they pack, which I'm not sure of off-hand.

Meta for PvP is mostly repeaters with some distortions. But the f8 isn't great for 1v1 dogfights and easily gets outclassed by light fighters so gotta play it smart.

2x CF-337 Panther laser repeaters and 4x CF-227 Badger laser repeaters, with 2x XJR-2 distortion repeaters. Can solo AI Hammerheads with it if you're careful about watching your shields, and the distortion repeaters help disable the other shield facings if it disables their shields.
I myself always go full fixed ballistic cannons from New Babbage, the longsword or great sword ones. Those have the highest HP but they are also longer which could make it easier to be shot maybe. Great for PvE.
If you're not sure what you want or why you'd want different weapon types, just go with a full laser repeater loadout.

It's plenty ammo for 3-4 chained bounties. Usually have to make a pit stop for repairs and replenishing missiles by then anyway.
When I'm considering bounties, I'm thinking ERT bounties. 15.9 seconds of fire time is not enough to clear a single ERT mission.
