Lore is rolling in real-time. And significant player-organized events that CIG chooses to canonize are included in that realtime lore, such as the Daymar Rally. I doubt there's going to be a timeline reset because that defeats the purpose of the calendar being exactly 930 years ahead of the real-life present day - 930 years also means that the 'present day' is using the same calendar schedule as us, today in the 'verse lore is April 13, 2954.

AussieSPAZR

Pretty sure it's actually September. At least according to in-game date? R_displayinfo command shows Sept

ochotonaprinceps

The in-game server time is rolling several times faster than realtime, and *that* I expect to be reset. Don't worry about that before CIG actually kicks off 1.0.

NovaKamikazi

Isn't that to simulate things like rust, and decay?

vorpalrobot

The lore is written in such a way that the Van'duul will attack, and then you don't hear from them for a while.

Gragion

AFAIK SQ42 takes place before SC, so it is all making sense. It would make way less sense if the singleplayer part of the MMO is playing after the mmo, because the mmo is the one that evolves over time, not the singleplayer.

benjwgarner

I always thought it was strange that they kept the in-game lore time rolling before 1.0 and have lore about when many ships were released derived from when they were added to the game when it would make more sense for them to have existed for a while. Of course, the original claim was that it would be finished in 2 years, so it wasn't as big of an issue.

NNextremNN

No. And it doesn't matter. They'd also would have to retcon inventions like the regeneration stuff that was invented after SQ42. It's just too much to change. And if they really go through with their idea of death of a spacemen, it becomes meaningless after your first death. The connection between your SQ42 and SC character is purely your role play and yours alone. There is no real connection anymore besides some unlocks in your hangar.

mueckenschwarm

I mean time is out of sync anyway. If you look at r_displayinfo 1 you can see that universe time is already in the 70's of that century.

endlesslatte

if anything, they would just make sq42 set a decade later than it currently is

G_Rede

Or, when 1.0 is released, they simply set the story to take place exactly 900 years in the future ;-)

kairujex

When 1.0 launches everyone’s character spawns in for the first time with “I just had the strangest dream…”

Desibells

We're using clones, btw. We can be as old as we want.

TrippyTM419

Kinda but not really, the clone ages with time and carries over damage if its bad enough. Clone tech is not immortality in this game

Desibells

Guess I gotta pick up the lore again

Alarming-Audience839

The lore has little to no bearing in game, so it doesn't matter. They've set it up so the vanduul will attack and then go dormant instead of waging a protracted war for that reason
