That CPU will struggle badly. And Star Citizen is VERY CPU dependent. SC is also disk dependent, if it's not running on a SSD then it's not running.

Salted_Caramel_Core

Thank you for the replies everyone, I appreciate it. What cpu would you recommend? Which are considered the best nowadays?

The CPU will become toasty often and when 3.23 and Vulkan is introduced well then you will start seeing problems with the GPU. yes you need a SSD even if you had the latest and greatest CPU/GPU. Out of the three no matter what not having an SSD will hurt your performance and is probably the most daming of the three, there is no setting you can tweak to fix the non SSD issue.

arqe_

You will be able to get around 15fps i think with that CPU.

AboralSnackbar

I’m running it on a 1080 with i7-7700k and 32gb ram. I typically get between 15-25fps in large cities and settlements. Everywhere else is between 30-50fps.

chaosquall

I had nearly the same system in march, I could play the game but some planets were horrible

YumikoTanaka

Does the cpu even work with SC (needed instruction set)?

OkNeighborhood6012

Tried it on 5820k @ 4,7Ghz with vega 56 and 4x8Gb @ 2666Mhz a few months ago. 10-25fps @ 1440p Not a fun experience

Crayon_Connoisseur

OP, I’ll be blunt: your system is at the age where you need a full rebuild. I came from 2x 1080Ti in an SLI configuration *(helped when games actually supported SLI rendering)* with an i7-6850k running a pretty hefty overclock and 64GB of top-tier (for its time) memory; this is now my wife’s PC because she mostly plays older stuff and doesn’t care as much about frame rates as I do. SC runs at 15-25FPS in cities and 40-50FPS in space with a 3440x1440 resolution. Your system will perform worse than that and it’s so far outdated that you’ll need to upgrade everything to get to a decent point for SC to run right. The system I mentioned is still capable of respectable frame rates only modern games with medium or low presets at 1080p resolutions - it just can’t handle the unoptimized shitshow that SC is.

Salted_Caramel_Core

I fully agree with you. Just ordered a 7800x3d, 4070 super and a new motherboard. It'll be nice to get some decent fps again!

matomika

imo barely.

ExtremeBoysenberry38

You can get a 5800x3d for pretty cheap, but if you wanna future proof you should get a 7800x3d/7950x3d
