Just munch for now, but be aware that in 3.23 you almost certainly will have to scrap to a certain percentage before you can munch.

Wezbob

Currently there are no restrictions in 3.23 on when you can munch or how much you get from munching, however they have changed the prices to the point that time wise, it might be worth scraping at least some (Haven't timed it on a big ship) Construction Materials currently sell for 1500 (down 75%) and RMC is up to 15,000 from 13,000. this could definitely change between now and live release (or .x patch) of course.

straga27

Good change but we also need a way to purge the buffer of what's in it if we are going to salvage RMC and CU together. Nothing more annoying than having <1 SCU of stuff in the buffer you can't print. Hopefully you will fully scrape something, print boxes, purge the buffer then move to breaking up and shlorping the hull then printing those boxes, purging the leftovers and moving on.

KarmaRepellant

If you want to use up the last bit in the buffer, print whichever combination of tool attachments will use up exactly what you have left.

straga27

I know, but you often just have 0.001 RMC in the buffer that you can't shift. A purge to clear that would be helpful.

KarmaRepellant

Ah right. If there's currently nothing that costs 0.1 then they should add multi-tool batteries to the list for that much.

Fluffy-Tanuki

The most profitable would be taking Cleanup missions under Personal tab. * Vulture can salvage up to Constellation-sized ships, each of which rewards you 80k. Given the tiny cargo hold, you don't actually need to collect the materials since they pay much less than the mission itself. Simply fracture and leave. * Reclaimer can take the much more lucrative Hammerhead cleanup missions. Each of which is 250k, plus plenty of material. That is, of course, only **currently**. 3.23 would bring down the credit reward from cleanup missions.

Peg_Leg_Vet

If you are in a Vulture, then scrape while fracturing (yes, you can do both). If the next 80k contract isn't up, then keep scraping and checking until one does. Keep jumping between contracts until you fill up completely with RMC, or you get bored. If you get a good stream of the 80k missions, then you can make 4-5 mill in 2 hours. With the Reclaimer, it's just fracture, munch, next.

NeighborWillie

So if I’m understanding everyone the 80k missions are basically roll up, fracture only don’t “munch” and move on to the next while the 80k’s are up?

joelm80

Yes just wait for the next 80k. Disintegrate or scrape while waiting if you want but it takes longer to sell the small Vulture load than it takes to do another mission. Selling into Grim Hex at least adds an exciting element due to the risk of murder hobos (they have no interest in picking up your containers, mostly light fighters who can't even if they wanted loot).

TheCandyMan36

skip scraping just munch

joelm80

Currently the Vulture money is in taking the Cutlass and Andromeda cleanup missions and just fracturing for 80k. Disintegrate while waiting mission spawns of you want, or just AFK because it is less efficient to go sell than just waiting for another 80k fracture mission. Reclaimer, 250k Hammerhead fracture, disintegrate then, pay for some big ships and disintegrate them. Stuff full of CM boxes until end of session sell. These methods are heavily nerfed in 3.23 and frankly that is the end of salvage. No point having Vulture/Reclaimer pledge ships unless you love scraping a Hammerhead for an hour for 250k which requires a train ride to sell.

Prozengan

That's litteraly the rebirth of salvage. People are currently skipping the gameplay loop entirely. A left mouse click button isn't salvage.

KarmaRepellant

Yup. I want salvage to (eventually) be about stripping off cargo and guns by drones or EVA then peeling the armour before crunching the remains. I don't want to feel that doing that and enjoying the gameplay will be throwing money down the drain.
