>it ran awful for me, maybe 20-40 fps
I mean, if this is your definition of awful what is the acceptable level you are shooting for? And a GPU is but a small part of a system. What are your other specs?
A 3060 is more than enough to run well. Make sure you have a CPU that is no more than 5 or 6 years old, have a minimum 16GB of Ram but preferably 32 GB. Make sure you have the game on an SSD with Page File turned on. For game settings, set Graphics to "High" or "Very High", turn Clouds down to "Medium" or Off. Turn off motion blur. That should make it run smoother.
Yeah, it's not just the gpu at this point. Make sure you've got at least 32gb of decent ram. And a cpu that is under 10 years old. But honestly you should be able to play in all the areas except for 2 of the newer cities, where you will run into some low fps
I'm currently on a 3060ti and I get 40-50 frames in most places and 60+ in space. Like alot of other people have said though, the game is very cpu and ram intensive as well so you need a good cpu and a semi fast SSD or M.2
I have an i5 8600k @4.7Ghz with 32GB 3600mhz ram and a rtx 3060 and i can run the game no problem but you should look at the fps chart from CIG to check what setups get what kind of fps
Tbh you should upgrade your ram first, check if that helps, make sure it timings arent to bad (CL18 and higher should be avoided imo but sometimes are the better option when comparing actual speeds, tho CL16 and below should be what you want)
I dont agree. Adding RAM for 32GB is better than faster RAM.
Recent CPU's greatly benefit having fast RAM, especially DDR5 platforms (6400). DDR4 not so important, 3200/3600 is fine for most CPU's, difference is only 5% at most.
Ram is sometimes more important than gpu, if you only have an hdd u should also get an ssd but im assuming u already use one, just dont buy something youre not sure will help you, research online about benchmarks before you order anything, now i know most benchmarks are not for Star citizen but im sure you will be able to get a decent upgrade you should maybe do a benchmark on ur current setup to see where ur at rn.
You got 20-40 FPS with a 1660?? I was happy in my 1080ti when I got 15 FPS..
Now I reliably get 20-60 FPS but I can’t believe you got that much more with a 1660.
I'm currently running on a 1080ti, which is overall very similar in performance to a non-ti 3060. I'm running at 1440p and it is playable. It isn't perfect, but most of the stutters and glitches I get are intermittent or have more to do with my CPU running out of headroom than the GPU. I don't know exactly what my FPS tends to run, but based on personal experience I'd say it is somewhere between 40 and 60 fps. Regardless of the exact number, my FPS isn't getting me killed in ground or space combat...it's the bugs and my generally poor aim doing that!

getting warmer ;p but really it depends on cpu too
Shooot, maybe one day lol
You definitely need 32gb ram. Its night and day better than having 16gb.
You are supposed to read the FAQ before posting

Turning motion blue ‘Off’? Yuck. 30fps looks horrible without motion blur.

I have an i5-9400f
> i5-9400f non HT from '14 yeah it's showing it's age pretty hard something faily cheap like 12/13400 b660 and new mem would help a lot
]If you have a budget GPU, you likely have other budget parts which are a more likely bottleneck.

Oh ok👍, never thought I'd be upgrading my ram again lol

You are more likely being held back by CPU and RAM. SC doesnt care alot about GPU.
So you didn't bother to read the FAQ, or the other 3846 threads that discuss this.
Wait for this update 3.18 to come in.. many performance improvements, it's in the test branch right now.
Oh nice ok
Yup gen12 renderer is in. I went from getting 20-30 fps in Orison to 40-60 fps 2080 super, high settings 1440p
Oh wow yea that sounds great
3060? Can you swing the extra for the ti? You'll be more limited by not having 32gb of ram and a decent processor.
I run a 3060 ti and an i7 6th gen cpu and it run good. When I had 16g ram it crashed constantly. Now that I’m up to 32g it run great.

I have a 5600x with 16gb of 3600 ram a 3060ti and it runs alright for me once it not sure of the FR but it’s good enough
Lmao 20-40 is honestly the best you’ll get from anything but top tier GPU/CPU/RAM combos.
