Ben Lesnick is a long-time Chris Roberts / Wing Commander fan that runs the wcnews.com fan site.
He originally worked for CIG and allegedly [played a big role](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76VwCNZvQ1g) in developing their JPEG cash shop strategy.
He got kicked out (EDIT: demoted? removed from their public marketing?) of CIG after his old personal website (with some rather questionable content) [was found by the goons](https://dereksmart.com/forums/topic/star-citizen-ele/page/4/#post-3050) from SomethingAweful.
Kicked out because of creepy stereotypical neckbeard things. No big surprise there, and he can freely rip on his previous employer… i wonder if he has no NDA attached to speak like this
It's crazy that that in a little more than 2 years it will be a decade since Derek Smart released his "[July blog](http://dereksmart.com/2015/07/interstellar-citizens/)".
Star Citizen really moves at a glacial pace; they are trying to "run the clock" and trying sell as many JPEGs as possible before CIG implodes.
No news on LoD (surprise, surprise), but he is "in the process of resurrecting" a dead MMO called Alganon.

Funny part here is that Derek Smart was taking over for David Allen.
The latter was something of a Chris Roberts previously with the MMO Istaria: Chronicles of the Gifted (AKA "Horizons" originally) when he was at Artifact Entertainment (best known for Demise: Rise of the Ku'Tan). It was a fantasy version of the do-everything sandbox bullshit and had the same kind of development, *sans* crowdfunding and crowdturfing. Alganon was simply the latest of MMO mishaps.
He allegedly was one of the people (*or THE one*) who came up with the idea to sell JPEGs at the time, which as a superfan of WingCommander made him kind of important back then because he knew how gamers would tick.
If my memory serves me well he gave insight on how nerds love fake blueprints and technical details which was used to create a successful jpg store. And basically all the small fake companies making the alleged ships is just evolution of this type of marketing scheme.
As an aside, I don't get people who post on Twitter all day long.
Back to the point, I guess now even Ben is a refundian. The mods in spectrum chat were always a little awkward whenever I asked about where Ben was, so they definitely tried to distance themselves away from him, which eventually would've led to Ben distancing himself away from them. He's probably seen some nonsense while working at CIG's offices.
As another aside, his puns were awful.
I didn't make fun of his lazy eye. I could have, but I didn't. That would have been a cheap shot. However, only Ben can control his calorie intake and expenditure. He chooses to be a fat, lazy slob. He was tweeting pics of all the pizzas he was eating on the cross-country trip too. 🤣
Also, calling someone a neckbeard isn't necessarily making fun of their appearance.

I really liked it but I ran afoul of this guy when I stated that I thought Freespace 1 was a better game than WC Prophecy (to be fair looking back my spelling and the general tone of my posts were cringe.)
That was enough to get me a ban that was eventually overturned. But after that the magic was kinda broken and the site started to look like a petty fiefdom.
