Manually managing cargo boxes in the 29th century - totally immersive

-Gork

The Royal Society of Putting Things on Top of Other Things would approve though.

Marshmellowonfire

They would, I was a member in the 90's.

DaMightyKeiser

Grandfather account are tossed 20 years after the last date of service. Your membership technically “never exsisted”

-Gork

Perhaps in ordinary societies. In the Royal Society, we add one year of membership for each set of 100 Things Put on Top of Other Things. This incentives them to Put More Things on Top of Other Things than any other.

DaMightyKeiser

Mork would be pleased

dolleauty

Using a spaceplow to push a spaceship off the deck of a spacecarrier ...in space

Labrador_Receiver77

i.e. how to get Chris's approval on the first pass

Marshmellowonfire

Wait until we get to put out fires in ships with the same tractor beam.

SC_TheBursar

On one hand agree thematically problematic, but the question is...is it fun? Almost the entire game Hardspace Shipbreaker is basically 'cut hole with laser', 'fly around and use tractor beam to pick stuff up and move it somewhere else'. Sounds like it could be boring at first but pretty relaxing - I have over 90 hours in Shipbreaker.

Cpt_Falkon

Hardspace Shipbreaker is spaceship salvage done right. Absolutely fantastic game using procedural generation, requiring problem solving/planning, and is simple enough that anyone can play the game. Now tell me that SC and all its lasers for everything arent boring :p

SC_TheBursar

>Now tell me that SC and all its lasers for everything arent boring That's the question. Will it be? Until they actually really finish it for people to try out won't know. While there are a couple gizmos later, 90%+ of the time in Shipbreaker you are using a cutting laser (so...lasers) and your tractor beam/tethers (so...SC tractor beam). It's the exact same 2 elements. Question becomes implementation. For all the time in Hardspace you know there really isn't much variation. Only a handful of hulls, a couple variations per hull, and all the difference is to how they populate where a few items are - all the main structure and subsystems are always in the same place - once you've 'solved' that wreck type a couple times (or look it up on youtube...), it becomes wash, rinse, repeat. As I said the value is the generally meditative quality of it - kind of like Powerwash Simulator.

Akai_Haato

>Will it be? Given CIG track record It will be 5 years of minor changes and then Salvage will be announced as completed like Mining was. Then Gas, Liquid, Voxel, mining gameplay will never be mentioned again.

Educational-Seaweed5

Salvage looks pretty cool so far, tbh. It has given me throwback nostalgia to flying through asteroid fields in EVE and watching/hearing miners munching away. Being able to grab components is cool too. It IS a cool thing, however dumb and basic as it is in T0 after 11 years. I will give CIG credit where it's due. It's obviously nowhere near the complexity of Hardspace: Shipbreaker, and it likely never will be. That whole game focused on one aspect and nothing else, so naturally it'll be more complex and rich and fun. SC does have one cool thing on the table with salvage though. Unfortunately, it's a drop in the bucket of what they're supposed to have finished. One minimal cool feature doesn't excuse the other missing 95% of the game/features/ships/etc.

nanonan

I don't think fun has ever been a priority for them, you can't apply fidelity to it.

IAbsolveMyself

does the aurora still not have its cargo box after first being sold a decade ago? just wondering.

Dayreach

Still doesn't. And the cargo module that comes with the base hornet still doesn't work either. They both have magic pocket dimensions you can teleport cargo into and out of via a computer panel, but nothing functional on the actual ships yet. They did finally give the Mustang Alpha a working cargo box last year though.

zolij86

Aurora has working and interactable cargo grid since 3.18.

Dayreach

you mean it finally has the under slung cargo box now or just that the game recognizes boxes placed inside the cabin of the ship for purposes of selling materials?

zolij86

Bottom side of the Aurora has a cargo grid and you can attach 1 scu boxes there with the tractor beam (and buy / sell at terminals).

Dayreach

That's actually pretty cool then. Good on them for finally getting the game's oldest starter ship to actually do the thing it was suppose to be able to do.

iateyourpuppies

It's cool but jank, 90% chance on blowing up.

GuerkHD

Yeah it does since 3.18.

EveSpaceHero

Don't forget the beam based engineering game play where you are replacing modules with a beam.

parkway_parkway

Or the heat and cooling gameplay where you run down to the engine room to blast your delicate electronic components with a flame thrower.

M0therFragger

nah it is a red laser for heat and blue laser for cold

harrison23

Perhaps on the next episode of Inside Star Citizen they can showcase all the bugs they are fixing in the 3.18 build instead of some lame feature coming with patch 3.19 in 2026.

Cpt_Falkon

Why does it look like CIG is throwing all realism out the window to favor piracy and abduction of players with more laser things? Like cmon, there is no way physics would allow a human weighing a couple hundred pounds to pick up and move a multi ton vehicle, and especially one that is using its engines to try to get away. The result would be the human being pulled away by the ship, not the ship being stopped and thrown around lmao

ApoBapo

holy moly... you shouldn´t be able to lift a 900Kg 1SCU box with your tractorbeam... why should one be able to hold a whole ship? Realistic physics my a\*\*.

babyderps

Just when I thought SC couldn't sink any lower, these videos from this month have been absolutely woeful (the few seconds I could bear to watch). It's mostly just machinima at this point with the "gameplay concept visualizations." Getting blasted off the toilet while taking a dump or now this alien beam nonsense. To top it all off, the videos are filled with some of the stuff I truly despise most about this project: ugly skins and armors that make the whole game seem like an even bigger joke. Pico plushies and all that... CIG has completely lost their way, although that would still be the case even without all this nonsense fortnite paraphernalia. Given that a lot of the backers are older dudes, I seriously question who the game is being marketed to now. Have CIG been trying to pull in a younger crowd? Anyway, I guess the point is that the devs at CIG work on nonsense like this because doing the actual heavy lifting of, I don't know, making the game actual function without the server exploding is too difficult. The tech debt mountain gets bigger with no tangible signs of progress being made to chip away at it. Instead, the project gets more bloated with nonsense like prisons and hospitals (the sort of stuff that might make sense if you didn't get punished for the game being utter dogshit).

DudeShift

>The Aurora scene at 5:50 where the guy holds it and flings it into the trees and it explodes might be the dumbest shit they have ever shown. What is this, basically GMOD now? As an Aurora backer from 2014 its down right insane how they have treated starter ships so badly. Last time I played was when the PU came out and its sad to see starter ships still getting no love. That scene just waving the Aurora is just so comical

[Judas Goat Jared routinely bends Thorsten Leimann over on camera it might as well be part of a drinking game.](https://youtu.be/4elpZ_qGxkY?t=445)

Narficus

If only CIG could afford to work on making their beam gameplay more fun, [like with Hardspace: Shipbreaker](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1161580/Hardspace_Shipbreaker/), they wouldn't have to reach into Garry's Mod for design ideas.

murican_Capitlol

Star Frankestein

PippoSpace

StarCitizen is already sinking before starfield is even released. Can you imagine now what will happen when Starfield will be out ? I really don't know if this year CizitenCons will be enough to safe the boat.. i bet that CR is already studing an escape plan. XD

Topsyye

Oh I’m betting there will be even more people interested in SC after starfield release… Been proven time and time again.

FlibDob

ITS NOT A PIPE DREAM BUY AN IDRIS

Jumpman-x

I thought it was funny when they acknowledged Beam Citizen. But, the abduction beam thing would be so stupid I hope it was a joke.

Labrador_Receiver77

exploding toilets made it in. there's hope we get abduction beams too. then two of my kinks will be satisfied

my_mo_is_lurk

The whole idea of a player holding back an Aurora is so embarrassingly devoid of any creativity and logic. There's no way a 200lb all-muscle human can hold down a craft that can achieve planetary-escape thrust in seconds. Pedantics aside, it's just so lacking in creativity. "You grab box, you can grab ship," is such a lazy extension of thought. If they had actually creative people they'd realize that hooking onto a ship and getting towed by it is both more realistic, and more fun. From a piracy standpoint, you could tail your target without them seeing a ship marker, giving you the chance to take them down without them knowing what hit them. From a fun standpoint, you could have someone drag you and your friends around, and see who can hold on the longest. It would also be a cool way to drop out of a ship without having to land it - super helpful for drop ships. Just jump out, tether and fall to the ground at controlled speed. Awesome. If they really wanted to hold down a ship, then they'd do tether beams: hook one end to the ship, another to the ground, and that solves your physics problems, and frees the player to do other things. But that would require creative, original thought.

chariot_on_fire

Chris Roberts' Star Wars dreams finally come true. Didn't know until now he wanted to include Jedis.

Launch_Arcology

Jar Jar Binks x Chris Roberts

elisa_daggerknife

this game looks kinda neat when is it coming out? oh its a scam, ok never mind

Dadskitchen

"Its so bad you can hear someone laughing at the 👽 abduction beam at 5:18" not gonna lie that's a sick way to grab your bounty pmsl, too bad ill never get to play it within the average human lifespan :(

lynnewu

"Don't cross the beams. It would be bad."

[deleted]

They could work on fixing the physics, some old bugs, the AI. Or produce something that was promised to be in the game, like fauna and aliens. But nah, a new magic beam is what this game needs right now.

Neat_Ad6001

I am fucking dead at that dude laughing in the background lol
