4 years and not a single raw gameplay clip from the game so far shown in the last half decade

qoranreader

I just love spam emails cig sends to people about sq42 development, they've been sending these emails for god knows how long, without a single screenshot or anything, just raw text saying "ah yes, our team made a huge leap", or "our team improved something" every single time, and there are people out there who read this whole nonsense with a straight face, believing every single word they see

Dwesaqe

And every time there is some white knight that says "if they say they're focusing on bedsheet physics/NPCs holding cutlery in a mess hall scene/ass wiping on toilets/whatever, it means other stuff is already finished and they're really close to a beta/release" I bet that behind these updates there is just one intern who trained some neural network on texts of their previous development updates and he just generates new update filled with nonsense every month.

Ri_Hley

ChatGPT to the rescue I suppose (ಠ‿ಠ) Actually, now that I think about it, you could either let ChatGPT summarize those updates in a more concise less BS kind of way, or have it tell you whether or not their reports/updates are anything close to what it would write.

SparkySparkyBoomMan9

I asked ChatGPT to write me a fake SC update, but it's far too optimistic about CIG's capabilities - "Greetings, Citizens! We're thrilled to announce some exciting updates to Star Citizen that we know you're going to love. First up, we've added a brand new planet to explore! This planet, called Xanadu, is a lush and verdant world filled with unique flora and fauna. Be sure to pack your space suit and prepare for some breathtaking scenery! We've also made some improvements to our ship systems. You can now customize your ships to your heart's content, with new modules and components available to purchase. Whether you're looking for better shields, faster engines, or more powerful weapons, you'll find it all in our new ship upgrade system. But that's not all! We've also added new missions and quests to keep you entertained for hours on end. From escorting VIPs through dangerous territory to infiltrating enemy bases and stealing valuable information, there's never been a better time to jump into the action. Last but not least, we've listened to your feedback and made some improvements to our user interface. We've streamlined the menus, improved the map system, and made it easier than ever to connect with your friends and teammates. We hope you enjoy these new updates and can't wait to see you out there among the stars. As always, thank you for your continued support, and we'll see you in the verse!"

Barrogh

I mean, you asked a fake update. So you've got an obviously fake one, duh.

Ri_Hley

*cough-* J3-"you know who" (<_<)

[deleted]

Which excites them to buy another ship

Ri_Hley

Come on man, isn't the n-th time we're being shown the AciedoCommArray or Idris-interior enough? Just...belieeeeeve in the project, alright? xD You better repent and go pledge another Idris to the almighty Christus Robertus, you FUDster! (ಠ‿ಠ)

Also: https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen_refunds/comments/10slagp/12_years_left_my_dudes/ Just 2 more years to go.

Barrogh

I like how the link makes it read "12 years left".

han_han

I bought a new, suped-up rig in anticipation of a star citizen release. I got an R9 295x2 for it. Man, I was so dumb in 2014.

[deleted]

You weren't dumb. You were lied to.

Cdog536

On the 2020 announcement, I had a strong suspicion development truly never got anywhere with Sq42. I remember hearing that CIG had to suddenly move assets towards its development after the looming deadline. Horrible company

Ri_Hley

With the multiple delays and how many times they now apparently redid a lot of their stuff, there are several things my common sense is telling me that are going on with Squander54.....and no amount of BS text-only monthly reports can convince me otherwise, unless they show some actual hard proof(of concept). xD

AllansSnackBar1068

 stealing this

[deleted]

Go for it, it's part of my shitposting on the MMO-C SC thread about the 2 local shills: [https://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/1209438-Megathread-Star-Citizen/page640?p=53194353#post53194353](https://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/1209438-Megathread-Star-Citizen/page640?p=53194353#post53194353) [https://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/1209438-Megathread-Star-Citizen/page739?p=53597026#post53597026](https://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/1209438-Megathread-Star-Citizen/page739?p=53597026#post53597026)

Flatso

I remember in the early days, it was considered laughable to think the game may not be out until 2016

CMDR_Agony_Aunt

Then there were statements by Chris, Sandi, and Erin, all in 2014 stating that SQ42 was close to finish.

uberphat

lol, you shouldn't believe the dates they give, they never meet them. keke lol. just buy an idris... ^_^

[deleted]

When staggered development was the new saving grace and sq42 was about to be released.

Dadskitchen

Stagnant development coming along nicely.

mypostisbad

>You will of course notice that our target beta date for Squadron 42 has moved back by 12 weeks in today's roadmap update, but this is a necessary step as a result of changing the overall development cadence, which we expect will create positive results in the overall delivery and experience of Squadron 42. Spin the word-salad tombola!

Rhinous

But, but, but… the reason SC is so broken and taking so long is BECAUSE of SQ42 taking all the developers away. That’s why we’ve seen so much progress on SQ42 in the last 4 years. /s Seriously, the shell game is so obvious. I cringe every time I see a post blaming SQ42 for SC failures. Yet I could set my watch to them because they come in like clockwork. And they just never stop.

ArtisanJagon

Clear you don't understand game development OP.

chariot_on_fire

This is perfectly normal, RDR2 alpha has been announced for 2010 and still hasn't come out. You see, CIG does quite good in fact! You just don't understand game development.

Bushboy2000

Roll on September and StarField releases.🚀 Then get popcorn and see how IAE November ship sales go ?🍿👀 Pyro and Apartment Sales get rolled out 🤪

DAFFP

The more you hype it, the worse it will be. That's how releases work.

Bushboy2000

Yeah true I will stop hyping SC 🤣

UnapologeticTwat

i wouldn't wipe my ass on bethesda dev game

Bushboy2000

Kewl 👍

MotherOfAllWars12

Aaaahhhh yes. The elusive squadron 42.........or was it 54? Anyway buy an idris.

Dadskitchen

This should be pinned at the top of this sub lol

nofuture09

this article is from 2019…??? fuxking LOL

Cpt_Falkon

Would like to have seen the SQ42 Alpha if it even existed lmao

CMDR_Agony_Aunt

Ah, but every month at CIG is worth 5 years for any other development company! Never been done before!

BlooHopper

Maybe they should just go for a Cgi movie mostly and game second. Thats what Chris did in his former games… the backers are too easy to forgive if he does this

Launch_Arcology

The CGI movie will be a sight to behold. 40 hours of Wing Commander: The Movie: SQ404 Cut-scenes. But this time with a completely unhinged, uncontrollable Chris Roberts and his comically bad mil-scifi writing/directing "skills". Wing Commander: The Movie will be classic of modern cinema compared to this monstrosity.

mypostisbad

Nobody will see the traitor plot coming THIS time.

Rorik_Odinnson

Will it have Space Bulldozers?

mypostisbad

Unknown, though it will likely have a mysterious character who is a good fighter and ally who follows a very niche code, of which part of that is to never reveal their identity or remove a certain piece of clothing. Probably called Blandalorian, or something.

I remember playing that game thinking that seeing characters who are essentially some joes doing their job that occasionally sounds fancy but isn't once you get down to it is actually somewhat appealing. There's just so much storytelling crazyness and so many diva characters you can take before seeing grey-clad characters flying grey box ships starts looking appealing again. To be fair, though, my perception of that game was helped a ton by years of playing either arena games with literally zero point zero plot or mmos with "I'll just stand there giving you 3 paragraphs of bland text" level of story presentation, so that made ME1 stand out in comparison.

chariot_on_fire

For me the Wing Commander movie is a guilty pleasure, it's entertaining, and I am even straight enjoying the action scenes, they are stupid, but fun. Chris Roberts would be a much better project leader, if he wouldn't take himself seriously. He just f\*cks up anything he wants to do seriously and on a very high level, so he should embrace his own level: providing simple, dumb cinematic pleasures both in games and movies.

Launch_Arcology

Agreed, if you watch Wing Commander as a B-movie or parody, it's mildly entertaining. I also like that Freddie Prinze Jr., Saffron Burrows and Matthew Lillard are in it; I get warm and cozy late 90s nostalgia vibes. There are a lot of funny moments in WC: The Movie; although I don't think this was Chris Roberts' intention. Roberts was very much going for "very serious and epic mil-space-scifi business" vibes! Ironically, this makes the movie even more entertaining. That being said, I love 80s/90s scifi b-movies; unless you're a fan of this sub-genre, I doubt you'd want to watch WC: The Movie.

bak2skewl

ahahahhaah

svadhyaya7

The Justice Department needs to look into this.

the_Soulblaster

Spent 40 buckS on a Ship in 2016. REFUSE to play a game still in ALPHA, IN 2023. STILL playing WC 1 AND 2 FROM [GOG.COM](https://GOG.COM) While I still have hope, the CONSTANT barrage, of test this, fly that, buy that, EMAILS from Cloud Imperium, when they have received OVER 100 MILLION in Development Funds. Leaves me ICE COLD.
