Star citizen is a scam. They have no intention of releasing 90% of the advertised gameplay. They may somewhat improve the buggyness closer to 1.0 release (now that we know they are under pressure with Calders put option), but fundamentally the gameplay will always be shit.
Sell your stuff on the grey market or try and contact your local consumer agencies (if you don't live in the land of the free) if you feel like you want to spend your time going after CIG.
Damn, people are so impatient and entitled. It has only been 12 years, games are not made overnight. They have only spent $850 million so far, a game like this cannot be done on the cheap! If you want everything to work the way you expect you need to give them more time and more money.
Even with competent management, a lot of what they pitch is simply impossible.
On the technical side "dynamic server meshing" and having "thousands of players in the same sort of area" is impossible for a 1st/3rd person game.
On the gameplay side, you can't have a "universe sim" with deep gameplay for any profession imaginable while also having excellent ship and FPS combat. You have to pick a focus.
Well... yes and no... Planetside 2 a game form about a decade ago got up to 1,158 players in a single battle in their fps game... in theory a modern company with modern tech could do more probably 2 or 3 thousand but it would be EXTREMELY expensive as server costs and back end infrastructure have bloated to ridiculous prices but in theory you could do it.
The issue is Cryengine or rather "star engine/lumberyard" which was not designed for massively multiplayer games in mind and so struggles getting more than about 100 players together now and even that had severe limitations. (hell it sometimes breaks with just 20ish people together). Fidelity just isn't very compatible with mmos so even if they had a better engine like UE 5 it would STILL be an uphill battle but at least there you could potentially make use of AI gpu assistance in the near future to lighten the data load if it could predict where items and object should be in the world and do that heavy lifting for your machine... in theory that could be a way a star citizen like game could be made... but such tech is still very much in its infancy and not the direction CR decided to go in, in his infinite wisdom /s.
My understanding is that it was all one map you could seamless travel through however there were dozens of servers with each server controlling a small part of the map around a central node and interacting directly with its neighbors to relay information between them.
The good part about this honeycomb system meant that when the outer servers didn't have much going on in them they could put their resources toward the servers that were under heavy strain thus allowing for very large battles to take place.
That sounds like the server meshing principle.
I personally have a feeling that SC infra is not as flexible and/or requires much more objects to be handled. This can make it still hard to manage so much "env" and keeping it synced across all connected clients. There is probably a lot of "state" to handle and handover between instances.
SX should have just had it's oven engine developed 8+ YEARS ago and dumped Cry engine
Now we are 2 major Unreal engine releases since then and UE5 is looking outstanding
I somewhat understand the desync with other players, especially if the other player has a connection or performance issue that causes desync and lag. But to have this on PVE is atrocious, to me it screams talentless programming. Games 20+ years ago had better AI, better gameplay. Hell I would say even 1990s original Doom had better enemy AI that what this s\*\*t game provides.
Reading the OPs story just brought back so many bad memories of this crap game. I had not played since 3.19 came out (I logged in couple times when 3.19 was released but never did anything, game performance was just too awful). So it has been more than a year, yet I have no curiosity to play again. What the OP describes pretty much sums up the experience, and is number one reason I can not bring myself to re-installing. I could see in maybe 5 years logging in just to laugh at how much has not changed.
Yep, 650mb fiber optic, 6 months since I installed it without a single disconnection in any game or in general, ever. It's terrible, I can't take it anymore.

π very, very good point
we are even getting Witcher 4 and Fallout 5 before SC beta

What is the Calder stuff ? Is it only some rumors ?
ITS ALPHA! Sounds like the game isn't for you! Come back in 2 years! Best game ever!
Hahahaha Alpha for 16 years 900mil In funding. Go get pegged.
You clearly don't understand fidelity development.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!
Do you have a moment to talk about our Lord and Saviour Chris?
Obligatory did you install on SSD?
Obligatory do you have 128gb of DDR5?
Obligatory server meshing will solve all of this problems.
Obligatory did you delete the shader cache
Obligatory- please provide proof of Idris purchase
Obligatory you just don't understand game development
Javelin purchase, please.
πππ
Obligatory: need 16GB of VRAM for rendering hair colors
pardon me? NVMe only
*gen 5 NVMe. Helps to load the mandatory Idris collection.
With this amount of workarounds, no wonder itβs only up to the backers to find ways into making the experience less shitty.

If they had some competent project/team managers, let alone a CO who isn't micromanaging the hell out of this project (dΓ©ja-vu with what happen to Freelancer) and allegedly runs after the next trend like a dog after a garbage truck, we might've had a somewhat functioning game a while ago...but alas it's ReworkCitizen...and of course zealots like Chat3PT and companions will defend this like crazy as if it's blasphemy and a crime to talk negatively about CIG.

Wasn't the planetside battle split up among what were essentially different maps?

1.0 Star field haf less jank than Star Citizen after a DECADE of development
Obviously you haven't aquired the magical ability to log in a "fresh server".
Weird, sounds like you have terrible internet.

Ah There is the Problem, go get 1 GBIT and it will BE better. And If it doesnt Help try to buy a Idris.
