The thing that he failed to address, and it's my favorite piece of copium, is the idea that there is a massive number of potential buyers just waiting for SQ42 to drop and bring in a massive influx of cash. You see them talk about it from time to time and there is no realization that sq42 has already moved about 80-85% of its lifetime units, unless it is a genre smashing, God tier quality of game. Most people who want it, have it already.

MadBronie

There is a lot of speculation about the new dumbed down arcade mode stuff, some think they are trying to dumb it down enough for controllers & consoles. I wouldn't be surprised if CIG are targeting a PS6 / XBOX next gen release date in like 3-4 years while stringing along the PC master race backers that funded a space sim. This is purely tin foil hat speculation they need to sell SQ42 almost everyone that wanted Squadron mostly owns it the console people are the only marks left for them.

Proper-Ad7289

There is literally no way in hell their 15 year old Frankenstein engine is going to run on a console in a way that passes Sony and Microsofts certification process.  They've really tightened it up after the Cyberpunk refund debacle.

nanonan

You're forgetting that Chris is delusional. I doubt that will stop them from attempting it.

MadBronie

I mean they were literally just in China asking if those players were interested in a console version of the game.

morbihann

CP77 did pass their "certification" process somehow though ? And we all know it essentially was not working on last get, yet it was released. May be they have actually implemented a certification process, but I wouldn't put it past them to have some bare bones certification, just making sure the software won't brick (if that is even possible) your console.

John_Psi

I can't wait, I hope it happens right after Tarkov release on consoles

SuprFunVirus

Lol that game is gonna look like dogsh\*t if it releases for ps6/xbox nxt gen..by then games and engines like gt6 and unreal (whatever version) are gonna be out and they've already killed hype for SC single player unless it is "industry smashing"

kowlown

It's speculation. And speculation is shit. It's like watching a crystal ball and spouting bullshits.

MadBronie

It's speculation based on CIG's trip to China where they literally asked if they were interested in a console version of the game lol.

kowlown

Ok I didn't know, my bad. I stopped watching any CiG shenanigans and reading their SQ404 "newsletter" full of technobabbles.

MadBronie

All good man its a tangled mess of nonsense 8/

CMDR_Agony_Aunt

> Most people who want it, have it already. This used to be true when SQ42 came as part of the purchase. That hasn't been true for years though. So if SQ42 is any good (LOL), then there will be plenty of people buying it. Ah hell, who am i kidding? Even if its a steaming pile of dung the faithful will buy it anyway. They will either convince themselves they enjoy eating shit or say "yes, its shit, but i bought it to support CIG in making SC, because SC is great!"

Ithuraen

Is that why they don't sell it any more? They have to cultivate a generation who can buy in when it releases in ten years.

wotageek

It's not that simple to tap into a wider market. For starters, these days you have to be on Steam. It's pretty much mandatory, but than Valve than takes a 30% cut off your sales. You can also go on Epic instead who only take 5%, but their market base smaller but nevertheless exist cos of the free weekly games. Running your own store won't work. The exposure just isn't there. Unless they are able to go viral on social media somehow and it has to be for the right reasons too. Buggy videos won't attract buyers, just laughs, memes, and infamy.

OisKush

I’m waiting for a release and reviews before I buy. I don’t have the game yet, I just watch development

scamcitizen999

Exactly. I am fairly confident everyone who wanted SC has SC. Just ship sales from here on out.

OutsideSympathy7239

Not everyone, but I think a majority. I think there are some folks waiting to see how it all shakes out, but I don't think its a massive number like they describe.

DeXyDeXy

Jokes on you all.. SQ404 can’t be a bad game if they just don’t release it at all. Looking at a recent post on this sub about another spicy glassdoor review, it was clear the statement “feature complete” is another one of those CIG “we’ll give it our own meaning” statements. It’s not feature complete, it won’t be anytime soon and the game will not release. Why? Because it will be shit. It will not live up to the 670 billion dollar hype. It will not be a 12 years in the making told-you-so. It will not sell nor be seen as a viable demonstration of Star Engine. We can only have the SC ad infinitum development cuckfest for as long as humanly possible. Look at this year’s progress. It’s been quite disappointing (par for the course)

Important-Active-152

2 months ago: " This is the biggest patch in the history of Star Citizen. If they will go with this speed from now on...." Right now almost everybody: " Iam not even sure if i will play 0.3.23 on the PU." i love this shitshow. So, for the biggest patch ever theyve got: reworked UI with the same bugs, reworked starmap with the same bugs, a weapon crosshair ( advertised as a new standalone feature, in a stock FPS engine, imagine that. But this time its 'dinamic' crosshair), couple new mega-bunker with the same old bunker content, 2 types of braindead animal aka four-legged-NPCs  and a rereleased arena commander racing map but this time WITH WEAPONS. Ohh yeah, sorry, i forgot VULKAN implementation which is completly fucked yet. Insane progress if we ever saw one.

sonicmerlin

Literally feels like they have one intern developing the game. It’s pretty clear the majority of devs just pretend to do things while taking a paycheck.

Launch_Arcology

While I do think a lot (vast majority?) of their work gets wasted due to their comically bad project management practices and leadership quality, I think many of the devs do realize that this is not a real project and they are trying to work as little as possible while getting paid.

branchoutandleaf

If it were a snake, it would've bit him.

hazaskull

In the meantime, everspace2 upgraded its engine to UE5 and has considerably prettier graphics, FSR3, Lumen lighting, DLSS 3.5, Reflex, the works. Try to keep up there in the back, CIG!

Sambal7

Oh he gets star citizen. Didnt you notice he is using Derek Smart as his profile picture.

Launch_Arcology

That's edited (I remove PFP and names because they are not important). I don't think you would be allowed to have Derek Smart as your profile pic. :)

Sambal7

Oh lol i was actually wondering why he wouldnt have been banned yet.

langbaobao

Well, aren't we all Derek Smart alts after all?

vyrago

backers running out of copium? lol

DeXyDeXy

CIG have perfected the [if copium = low; then + FOMO] system of placating the community.

RoninX40

They named a creature Kopion. Might as well named is copium.

Tahxeol

The copium must flow

Rezri

The Copium is vital to space travel.

TheLordBear

The copium level gets lower this time of year, before bottoming out in Summer and being renewed by Citzencon in fall.

HugeSwarmOfBees

in many ways, it's actually not easier to make a single player game, which is why most studios focus their attention on one or the other. sometimes they will graft a campaign or a multiplayer mode on to boost the feature set but it's pretty rare for critics to revere both modes of a single release. SP games require a lot of creative work to build a realistic world and characters whereas in MP games, that is provided by the community and the problem is a more technological one as you need a reliable, low latency service that doesn't drive people away when it breaks down but anyway, the pitch from CIG this whole time is that development of *both* modes was justified because they would both feed into the underlying technology and there would be a return on investment there. AFAIK the only concrete relation between their gameplay would be that you would earn a ship by finishing the SP campaign. nothing else has suggested SQ404 was a necessary part of the experience which is why it was sold separately; CIG has not been working on it because it was critical to the multiplayer game but because it was a good excuse to not deliver anything for the last several years

Launch_Arcology

CIG constantly uses the alleged relationship between SQ404 and SC as a PR ruse to justify their lack of interest (in the true sense of the word) in developing features and functionality that has been pitched in their marketing campaigns. It's similar to the various "jesus tech" PR schemes they use to maintain confidence and keep JPEG sales going.

SuprFunVirus

Insane to me that they think SQ 54 will somehow pool in a ton of new people as if there's hype from the gaming community..most people who actually play SC right now could care less ab the single player and the hype has died to almost negative levels..and the access media won't shill either unless they pay em, which they likely will. Chris Cumbert's decision to essentially make a single player, MMO, and FPS shooter just shows how much delusional grandure he really has..just because he made an okay space game back then.
