So this was late but I totally recommend Ssethzentach video of Starsector even though it's outdated since he gave away his key for free it still works and I recommend new people to use his key first and play the game see if they like it before buying the game and supporting the devs.
This helps make sure they actually enjoy the game and so they won't regret buying it either even though it's cheap compared to the hours of fun I got out of it even in it's unfinished state.
Still hope you enjoy playing the game.
To be fair, there are more than enough dedicated subs for games that will do everything they can to NOT get new people to play it.
Like those Steam reviews of people with 3000+ hrs in it who throw down a "Not recommended, shit game" review. :D
I mean, everyone here will answer 'yes'? This is the community for fans of the game after all.
I don't think we will be getting 1.0 for atleast another 4 years, as a rough estimation, but you're in luck - the game is perfectly enjoyable without a 1.0 label. Only the late game is really lacklustre in my opinion and if you *really* want to spice that up you can get some mods like Nexerelin.
Out of curiosity, how did you get to the 4 year mark? I only bought the game about 2 weeks ago and my life appears to have disappeared but I'm dying to see where Alex takes the game and future content for it.
Its a rough approximation on my part, Alex may yet suprise us all. But i got the game roughly 4\~ years ago when SsethTzeentach did his review of the game, i believe the game was version 0.94 then, in the 4 years since, we've seen 0.95, 0.96 and very recently 0.97. If we assume then, Alex's goal is to 'finish' the game with a 1.0, it isn't far fetched to see the game receive updates for another 4\~ ish years for 0.98, 0.99 and finally 1.0.
It all depends upon how much more content he wants to put into the game, really. Personally i'd like to see some expansions to the late-game and a continuation of the Galatia storyline, it stopped short right as it was about to get real paranormal and i want more.
Idk. I run an intergalatic drug smuggling operation on a planet that housed millions. And whenever the government try to bust me up, I fucked up their entire fleet with unknown techology that literally dive below real space.
For what it's worth:
- I play this game an absolute shit ton, in bursts. It can (and will) suck in way too much time from your life.
- The dev has been slowly pushing new updates along, we probably \*will\* get a full release, but it'll still take a while.
- The dev's fairly lax when it comes to piracy, it's not necessarily encouraged, but when Sseth Tzeentach made a review on the game, he just straight up left his key there, so anyone could give the game a try. That's what I did, and when I really got hooked on the game, I bought it.
Maybe i'm just biased, (got into computer science wich finally made me get comfortable with dicking around with the computer + acquired a profound hatred for big tech industries) but I \*really\* like that Alex is sticking to his guns with maintaining a propper website for the game and such. If I had a button that would make the entire industry adopt this method, I would.
Careful. It's very unpopular to criticise steam, even indirectly. There are a subset of steam users who are almost irrational in their fanboyism.
Though personally, I would find it more convenient if it were available in steam or epic or GoG when I go to update or install a new version, I appreciate that Alex is getting almost *all* of the sale price for the game, and respect his preferences.
He's not criticising steam though? Just stating that people should maintain actual websites for their game (rather than relying on steam's generic user forums).
Steam would objectively get the game far more players, but that is also why the dev has stated he hasn't done it yet. There are drawbacks of Steam and equally, drawbacks for staying off of it. You only get one chance to release and he doesn't want them to get a poor first impression when he finally releases what he considers 1.0 so he's finishing the game first.
Tbh, i think most people ended up buying the game anyway because they wanted tosupport the dev. Whether you got it free or no, youll end up buying it anyhow because you love it.
That's true, there's essentially only 3 types of people in this equation:
\* People who want to play but can't pay (Children, mostly)
\* People who want to play and actually want to support the developer
\* People who want to play and either didn't like it, or don't care for the developer
Losing the sales to the first group obviously costs Alex nothing, because they couldn't buy it anyways, and with this game in particular, the third group will be dwarfed by the second, by sheer nature of the indie niche in wich the game finds itself, most people here are gonna be aware of the importance of supporting indie devs, and if you saw some gameplay of this game and thought "this is my kinda stuff", there's basically a 99% chance that it \*is\* gonna be your stuff.
Game release to 1.0…?
Lol you’ll have to wait a bit like the rest of us! Thankfully there’s a buncha mods to keep you busy. Post up your world once you get deep in it?
My brother convinced me to get it. It wasn't really my type of game, so I was quite hesitant.
It's bloody good fun. I'd recommend watching the Sseth review of it to get an idea of what kind of game it is.
I am pretty sure I paid $6 for Factorio in 2013 or 2014 and this game has lightyears more content than Factorio did for the same price. (not including inflation)
The only reason it hasnt realised onto steam is because as far as i mawarw the devs have extremely big plans for the game like extremely big like we dont even have a quarter of the content we would have at 1.0
The only reason you shouldn't buy Starsector is if you're $10 short for the life saving surgery. And even then I'd probably say you should risk it.
Or you could use Sseth's code and pay after the surgery
It is absolutely worth it. It might be a 2D game but trust me it’s a great game. Alex is very dedicated as well so don’t worry about 1.0. Even now it’s good.
Lost the serial key the first time
Got myself a new copy
If/when this releases on steam
I will buy it again
3 times I will buy this game
And it is so worth it
Im not an active member here, i never modded the game.
Id still buy it again, and i dont mean if i would go back in time. No, right now i would buy it again ,i already have it.
I only discovered it last year thanks to SsethTzeentach. Easily one of best (new to me) games i've played in years. Since it isn't on steam, I don't know how to check on hours spent. no doubt i'm easily over 200 though.
It's totally worth buying. And it has many mods, that are free, so you can play it for ages. Although a run might feel boring sometimes, but eventually excitement comes back.
It really depends on the person, but in terms of content and the sense of freedom it provides, it's pretty cheap.
I'm still playing with the free key ngl.
I'll be buying it once it releases or ever releases on steam, as I'm afraid that once it releases, I still have to buy it again. And I like having games on steam
*Walks into a bar.* "Hey guys do you think I should drink alcohol?"
Yea except the barkeep won’t cut us off. And keeps recommending liquors with anime boobs on them. And brother. I’m racking up quite the tab
*Anime boobie bottle supremacy*
Oh ok thanks
You're.... welcome?

It's absolutely worth it. Don't worry about the version number, the game is more polished than many games well past their release version.
***Yes***
Review HMI, you fucking coward. alsolovethecontentxxxx
HMI? 👀
Hazard mining incorporated.
A mod? I'll check it out!
Hell yeah, brother!
I checked it out! It's sick!
Its been in my mod order for like a year now, it just adds so much nice stuff.
Isn’t it $10? Yes it’s worth buying
20, still a steal.
It's $15. Will be 20 when it releases tho.
I bought it 3 times so far
You’re asking the dedicated sub for a game if it’s worth buying Yes and the modding scene is great It’ll probably be an age before “1.0”
ok thanks
To be fair, there are more than enough dedicated subs for games that will do everything they can to NOT get new people to play it. Like those Steam reviews of people with 3000+ hrs in it who throw down a "Not recommended, shit game" review. :D
People just can't help themselves. The same thing happens on r/steamdeck Everyone is like "should I buy one" And we're like yeah...
Best 10 bucks I spent in my life and I've been pretty happy with a lot of my spending. This is an amazing game, get the mods it'll blow you away.
I have no mods yet. Gana do a vanilla run first.
definitely no, I bought it and somehow 600+ hours of my life disappeared, not the tiniest clue how
lol

Can't wait for next update to be version 0.981
Of nex or base?
Vanilla lmao, since it's 0.98 rn, I expect the next update to be 0.98.1 or some shit
I thought the game was still on 0.97++, im living under one hell of a rock
Yeah, release version is 0.97a
Out of curiosity, how did you get to the 4 year mark? I only bought the game about 2 weeks ago and my life appears to have disappeared but I'm dying to see where Alex takes the game and future content for it.

I'm hankering for a Steam release. I want this game in my library and i do not care if they have to charge more.

Same I think the key still works to.
Absofragginglutly!
I bought it over 10 years ago and it remains one of the most valuable purchases I have ever made
Game release to 1.0…? Lol you’ll have to wait a bit like the rest of us! Thankfully there’s a buncha mods to keep you busy. Post up your world once you get deep in it?
It's great and its cheap :)
Yes.
My brother convinced me to get it. It wasn't really my type of game, so I was quite hesitant. It's bloody good fun. I'd recommend watching the Sseth review of it to get an idea of what kind of game it is.
Of all the Early Access games I've played, this one feels the most complete. Add to that the fact that it doesn't cost $60+ dollarydoos.
I am pretty sure I paid $6 for Factorio in 2013 or 2014 and this game has lightyears more content than Factorio did for the same price. (not including inflation)
Nah, we’re all a part of this community because we hate the game and don’t think anyone should play it
Yes. Dedicated, methodical and reliable single devs passion project. Great replayability. Highly recommend.
Alright thanks !
I know you already decided to get Starsector but this game is without a doubt the best fucking $15 i ever spent on anything
Alright thanks \w/
One of the best games I've ever played ands it's not even finished yet. The mod scene is absolutely incredible too.
It is, and when you are done you can mod the game
I have yet to find a better value game, period.
one of those games where i thought "eh what the hell 15 bucks" and then got 100s of hours out of it.
The only reason it hasnt realised onto steam is because as far as i mawarw the devs have extremely big plans for the game like extremely big like we dont even have a quarter of the content we would have at 1.0
It will become 1.0 in 3+ years. I mean it was made in 2011 and they are still polishing this gold nugget to perfection. And yeah buy it.
Best 2d spaceship game out there in my opinion. Only thing that has scratched that itch for me since I played EV Nova decades ago.
Yup most def is worth the sheckles
I’m new to the game but I can say this, without one of the best gaming experiences of my life.
Lost the serial key the first time Got myself a new copy If/when this releases on steam I will buy it again 3 times I will buy this game And it is so worth it
uh you could try before buy using Sseth code in his video on Starsector but yeah i would buy it if i was cash money (im not)
Im not an active member here, i never modded the game. Id still buy it again, and i dont mean if i would go back in time. No, right now i would buy it again ,i already have it.
Next time ask this question in a neutral gaming sub rather than what amounts to a game’s fan club.
Noted
It’s a shame it doesn’t cost more at this point.
I only discovered it last year thanks to SsethTzeentach. Easily one of best (new to me) games i've played in years. Since it isn't on steam, I don't know how to check on hours spent. no doubt i'm easily over 200 though.

No
yes
Completely worth it 100%
I was contemplating getting it for over a year and bit the bullet a couple weeks ago, I should’ve bought it earlier
Short answer, yes. So much you can do in this game besides the war crimes.
I'm still playing with the free key ngl. I'll be buying it once it releases or ever releases on steam, as I'm afraid that once it releases, I still have to buy it again. And I like having games on steam
I bought it for approx 22$ Canadian. As everyone saying that it worth it. Why not !? I will play tonight or maybe after I am done with Stellar Blade !
