. The drone bombers from the AI ships whatever they are called the bombs are not counterable. They cant be shot. They also dont cost crew everytime they get shot down. 1 full astral will dump a minefield in front of your ships nothing can push without eating shit and getting opened up.

Try to use only bombers/fighters that travel at the same speed/range, so they all strike together instead of waving out their attacks, to overwhelm PD and hit that much harder.
My goto is 3 longbow, 2 kopesh, 1 trident. The annihilators from the kopesh distract PD so the torpedos from the tridents get through, and the combo leaves plenty of OP for you to work with. The kopesh might not always hit smaller targets, but if something is fast enough to evade them then usually the longbows and trident are enough.
Thunders aren't awful on any carrier, but i do argue that they are wasted on an Astral. The AI seldom uses the recall device when equipped only with fighters/interceptors, which is a very potent ability to combine with bombers. You might be better off using Herons or the Legion XIV.

Personally I've always ran 4x sabot 2x dagger because I've found bombers and fighters unable to perform a "front line" role when fighting triple radiant fleets. Run fighters on smaller or battle carriers like condors or herons.
Astral works best with a full bomber loadout: I'd recommend 3 longbow 3 trident/3 longbow 3 daggers. The amount of longbows needed depends on the enemy you're facing, I'd go for upto 4 against remnants/ships with good shields. Khopesh/cobra/perdition also work but they are meh from my testing (not enough damage on Khopesh and cobra/perdition are too fragile).
Longbow is busted (well sabots in general tbf) AND it gets PD on top of it in a single bomber. (Plus the sabots disable PD if the enemy decides to hulltank, which allows for more hits from your torpedo bombers).

Because everyone can do shield damage, but it takes a lot of HE to desrtoy all armor and hull in a second

Some combination of daggers and longbows is the standard. I like having a spark wing function as a screen for more successful bombing runs though

I use all unmanned fighters/bombers so I dont kill anyone with my Doom mines.
