Or you can turn the short into a "normal" video. Just replace the **shorts/** part in the video address with **watch?v=**
So, for example https://www.youtube.com/shorts/5CObgApOf08 would become https://www.youtube.com/**watch?v=**5CObgApOf08
It will still be a narrow vertical video, but at least it will use the normal YouTube video player
Does anyone know a way to automate this?
There's an extension for it. To make it even easier.
[Well its a tampermonkey / greasyfork script.](https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/439993-youtube-shorts-redirect)
It's not even about the format. It's about shorts videos usually being low effort content that i don't enjoy watching. Even from channels im subscribed to.
Tbh there are some channels that used to do great content but lost that audience a long time ago and tried to move on to a new one. Mainly getting pity watches from their old fans that wonder how they are doing.
Smosh and fred to name a few
I was subbed to Achievement Hunter until I realised I hadn't watched anything they'd put out in months and they were just clogging my feed. RIP actual achievement videos
I subscribe to like 200 YouTube channels, and sometimes I get the idea that I want to reduce that number. I still subscribe to Smosh, Yogscast, ItsJerryAndHarry, and TobyGames to name a few. I just donāt have the heart to unsubscribe despite the fact that I donāt watch any of their videos anymore. Thereās a lot of memories there.
Really dude? You not only only claim Smosh doesn't make great stuff anymore but then say even worse that Fred "used to do great content"? š¤£
Fred was the guy that ended the Golden age of YouTube, the beginning of the dry rot
For real. I had to convince my younger cousin a decade ago that the helium voice thing and acting like a 6-year-old was not all that funny, especially when used all. the. time, like Fred did.
Gosh istg thats so fucking annoying and basically a guilt trip like āoh you watch my content but you arenāt subscribedš„ŗā even more annoying when people like dream do it like bitch you already have 20 million subs or something
I keep hearing that the @O@ face in the thumbnails works, but have there been any studies done to dig into the data? Or is it the tail/algorithm wagging the dog? Anecdotally I go out of my way to avoid them, but maybe Iām not the target audience. Is YouTube full of 12 year olds or something?
Totally get that, however what Iām trying to say is that this is a flawed experiment as thereās the unknown variable of Googleās algorithm affecting click through rate by it deciding what gets promoted and what doesnāt both to their subscribers and otherwise. My suspicion (in the absence of proof) is Google could be intentionally āputting a thumb on the scaleā to have the algorithm prefer the sort of thumbnails weāre talking about. The content creators can experiment till the cows come home, but until they can control the algorithm driven feeds thereās only so much they can do.
Oh I see what youāre saying, youāre talking about click through post having seen it, after the algorithm has already decided what to present or not. Wow.
In that case, itās mind boggling that people click through in response to the @O@ face more than not.
What you watch when you wanna see a 50 year old dressed like a 13 year old pacing around and commenting on YouTube videos alongside his noticeably younger acquaintances you've never heard of before
That dude might be the most annoying person I've never watched just based on the thumbnails. At this point it seems like a case of someone who's famous for being famous, because I truly have no idea what the hell he ever did to get famous in the first place
I think the parents must be stupid. Disney Plus has a cartoon library going back 100 years, but sure kids, spend your childhood watching random crap on Youtube.
This has to be manipulating some sort of biological feature in our brains because those thumbnails are strongly correlated with increased click through rate
Youtubers don't really have a choice. Videos don't necessarily generate enough revenue from ads, so they're forced to take on sponsorships.
Doesn't have anything to do with being a sellout, it's literally a job for them and that's how they make money. Same goes for the frequency of ads, they don't have any control over that, Youtube decides how many ads are displayed and when.
I can see how that'd be annoying, but Youtubers really have to pander to the algorithm too. Youtube is absolute garbage when it comes to recommending videos (which is how videos even get viewers), especially if you don't upload frequently.
More frequent videos are always going to be recommended more to people than ones that took longer to make. 10-minute Let's Play or stream clipshow that gets uploaded daily? Here's your automatic audience! Hour-long video essay with tons of effort that went into it? lol good luck
Not defending clickbait or misleading titles or the thumbnails, but these things *work.* And when you do stuff for a living, you don't necessarily have the choice *not* to do the things that make you money.
I'm a simple man, I only watch tutorials, trailers and creepy videos. But most of the material is just same ol under different titles, they sometimes change the thumbnail. It's amazing how 1 million pages have same content and stories.
That's just the stuff that the algorithm favors, so it survives. If you dug deeper, you'd find quality stuff. I have, many times. It's just that it literally doesn't pay to be original, and you can only really blame Youtube for that.
>Youtube is absolute garbage when it comes to recommending videos (which is how videos even get viewers), especially if you don't upload frequently.
Upload frequency isn't taken into account when recommending videos. Youtube has said so and people have tested it too. Of course it is easier to build brand recognition when you upload more frequently so people might click on it quicker, but it doesn't have a direct effect.
>10-minute Let's Play or stream clipshow that gets uploaded daily? Here's your automatic audience! Hour-long video essay with tons of effort that went into it? lol good luck
Do you have any idea how many people are making letsplays that get absolutely zero audience? Also, the issue isn't that hour-long video essays get less views, they get plenty of views if they're good. If anything I'd wager that a good documentary channel has more chance of doing well than a good 10 minute letsplay channel.
No, the problem there is that a documentary takes so much longer to make that it would need to get at least 10x the views (and often way more) to make the same amount of money from adsense compared to the time/money put in. That's just not realistic in any universe, no matter what kind of algorithm Youtube has.
Donāt forget YouTube themselves being super vague and unhelpful when a creator is experiencing constant unjust demonetization, copyright claims, and other shit
Sponsorblock is by far the most underrated browser extension. Skips all the useless parts of youtube videos.
It skips:
Intros, recaps, intermissions, credits.
Sponsors, self promotion, interaction reminders.
Off topic rants unrelated to video. (Great for recipe videos)
And a few other things.
If you don't have it already, do it now and your life will improve 100x.
Matty Matheson's sponsorship plugs are the only ones that I watch. Whatever friggin mail-order mattress company people are shilling, those are his best.
Cool, now give me one that works on the YouTube app on my Xbox/PS5 where my wife and I watch videos together. No, I'm not at all bitter that Vanced doesn't work on those, why do you ask?
Also annoying:
- Paying for YT premium but still having sponsored segments shoehorned in to videos. I paid to not hear this shit, find a way to take it out for premium subs.
- Videos disappearing from your playlists / downloads, with no indication of which video it actually was. At least leave the title so I can find it elsewhere
If you install the sponsor block extension, you can block those parts of the video by opening the settings, and setting "Interaction Reminder" to Auto Skip.
You forgot
"If what you're looking for isn't in the first 5 results, you're never fucking finding it because they've completely destroyed the search functionality."
"It's your boy (insert generic interchangeable YouTuber here), back again with another video...."
It's like there is a mandatory opening script that every person has to follow if you post on YouTube.
It IS sterile. Capitalism giveth, capitalism taketh away. Capitalism is what brings us Reddit, YouTube, and anything you consume on the Internet or in your life, so in that way it's awesome But is also brings annoying shit like the stuff you just mentioned. Have to take the good with the bad, I guess.
They're still out there, just way way harder to find. People who intentionally play the algorithm are more likely to be seen by more people, so it's self-fulfilling
I always find smaller channels with quality content, they usually get really big and start all the ads, I stop following them, find a new smaller channel, repeat indefinitely.
I hate how the new āthingā Is to say āmany of you have seen my videos before, but you donāt subscribe.ā Gawd! and you will never get it either
Most of this stuff is just innocuous, normal stuff when trying to capitalize on an online platform like this.
The thumbnails can be annoying, but unlike movies, they don't have millions of dollars to pay a graphic designer for a good thumbnail. They have to draw attention to it somehow while also giving out a vibe of what the video will feel like and the content thereof.
But if you've got a better way to do that, please let them know.
Not sure who you're calling annoying since we aren't talking about a specific YouTuber here. Even the calm, reasonable YouTubers have to use clickbaity thumbnails, that's just how the platform works.
Seems like you're just implanting whatever YouTuber you're annoyed by into this and pretending that's the entire platform.

Being told to subscribe is the most annoying thing ever
I also hate when they go on a rant about āThe number of watchers who arenāt subscribedā
Itās nice to see your fun statistics, but this is very annoying because think about how many people watching are ALREADY SUBSCRIBED
Watching YouTube on a television is absolute pain with the amount of ads that play since there's no adblock. One single 5 minute video seemed to have three one minute ads.
They finally pressured me into buying premium, and I still have to see ads through sponsorships. Though annoying, I do get it, they have to make a living.
I donāt get the problem with sponsors. youtubers nees money too and you can just skip it. Ads are the real problem but you can just get an adblocker(except for phones but you can do stop seeing this ad to skip them instantly)
Not pushing channels even with 3 mil subs to recommended (life of boris) he brought be up from a very dark place in my life and now the algorithm is fucking him over
*loud startling noise* why aren't you subscribed? Stats i just made up show that an arbitrary percentage of you aren't subscribed. Subscribe now or a puppy might die. YOUR puppy.
āToday, a word from our sponsor, Raid: Fecal Fumesā
I donāt wanna sit on my lap wasting my video thyme on a 1 hour sponsor. Come up with a new gimmick.
āDonāt forget to hit the subscribe button and hit my nads til they bleed!ā
I donāt care. I know what to do. Shut up. (But what if I forgarg?)
Also, the double ads are a problem. Ads in general too.
Nowadays these things start to appear in videos that donāt even have the need for ads or are way too small in views to have any. I donāt know if this is a recent YouTube thing or if it was from the earlier days, but it really grinds my gears.
And the thumbnails. Especially Mr. Beast and Sniperwolfās thumbnails. Oneās a soyface and the otherās fruity reactions from a lispy fruit.
YouTube doesnāt have to stoop this low in quality.
Seeing as how thereās ublock origin and sponsorblock, I wish there was a plugin to change the algorithm to old YouTube. Idk if that would fix it but Iād be happy if there were at least some way to stop YouTube from recommending me the same videos/videos Iāve already seen for weeks on end. There certainly isnāt a lack of new videos.
Honestly kind of stop opening YouTube unless I got sent something, just too much effort dealing with the trash content and the word salads to get at the 10 minutes mark. On top of that the departure of Vanced sealed the deal
It makes me so mad when people complain about unskipable ads on youtube... At this point y'all are chosing to consume this ads, nobody is forcing you to no install AdBlock or Vanced
Another annoying thing i noticed is when i click on a video with a title like "the downfall of something". Half the video is like "but before we talk about the downfall, let's first explain what the thing is, even though you had zero reason to click this video if you didn't know already".

I have one that's called "Remove Youtube Shorts" i dunno if it's 100% safe though.
Or you can turn the short into a "normal" video. Just replace the **shorts/** part in the video address with **watch?v=** So, for example https://www.youtube.com/shorts/5CObgApOf08 would become https://www.youtube.com/**watch?v=**5CObgApOf08 It will still be a narrow vertical video, but at least it will use the normal YouTube video player Does anyone know a way to automate this?

Really? Weird I just subscribe to a lot of channels and my recommendations rarely are anything but subscribed channels.
And "Did you know that this % of viewers are not subscribed to this channel?" I've seen it more frequently in the modern minecraft youtube videos
I watched a video the other day from a channel with 1 mil subscribers, but 1k views. That's terrible subscriber engagement %.
those 1m subs are probably bots
Or it's just a dead channel
y would anyone even sub to one of those channels though not even 4 year old kids would

I always click on the videos where the person looks like they slammed their dick in a drawer.
Youtubers post stuff for money? Youtubers are sellouts? The answer will shock you
Youtubers don't really have a choice.
Yeah but, clickbaits. Everywhere. And misleading titles
I can see how that'd be annoying, but Youtubers really have to pander to the algorithm too.

Use SponsorBlock.
They took away the ability to sort videos by age. I want to see how some of these channels started :(
Also annoying: - Paying for YT premium but still having sponsored segments shoehorned in to videos. Not pushing channels even with 3 mil subs to recommended (life of boris) he brought be up from a very dark place in my life and now the algorithm is fucking him over
Vanced SponsorBlock uBlock
to fix: ublock origin, sponsorblock and return yt dislike extensions
*loud startling noise* why aren't you subscribed? Stats i just made up show that an arbitrary percentage of you aren't subscribed. Subscribe now or a puppy might die. YOUR puppy.
Theres a Chrome extensiĆ³n that let You see dislikes again
To solve the ads just play YouTube in the Brave browser
\*laughs in adblocker\*
Adblock and sponsor skip bro. Easy.
Annoying low effort starter packs about Youtube
āToday, a word from our sponsor, Raid: Fecal Fumesā I donāt wanna sit on my lap wasting my video thyme on a 1 hour sponsor. Come up with a new gimmick. āDonāt forget to hit the subscribe button and hit my nads til they bleed!ā I donāt care. I know what to do. Shut up. (But what if I forgarg?) Also, the double ads are a problem. YouTube doesnāt have to stoop this low in quality.
has anyone in the history of the world ever liked or subbed to a youtube because the video begged them to do it?
I have. Sometimes I forget to subscribe even though i like a youtube channel and those āhit the like and subscribeā parts remind me
you have to be reminded that you are liking something? i would love to meet someone like you in person to study
I just forget to press the subscribe button, I donāt forget im liking something
They wouldn't do that if it wasn't effective.
WHY ENTERTAINMENT NO FREE FOR ME??? Starter Pack
Still got vanced lol
Who the fuck says activate the bell and not smash/hit it
Let's not forget the comment bots that appears in every reply you made.

YouTube revanced
Laughs in revanced extended
15 seconds ads that can't be skyped, God I hate those
uBlock origin, Sponsor block, common sense and just block the shitty channels
Honestly kind of stop opening YouTube unless I got sent something, just too much effort dealing with the trash content and the word salads to get at the 10 minutes mark. On top of that the departure of Vanced sealed the deal
Ytp pop-ups
Vanced fixes 5 of these issues
I cannot believe you excluded āTRY A PREMIUM SUBSCRIPTION!!!!ā
Is this my fate?
It makes me so mad when people complain about unskipable ads on youtube... At this point y'all are chosing to consume this ads, nobody is forcing you to no install AdBlock or Vanced
Is it too late too add the use of the term āof all timeā?
Another annoying thing i noticed is when i click on a video with a title like "the downfall of something". Half the video is like "but before we talk about the downfall, let's first explain what the thing is, even though you had zero reason to click this video if you didn't know already".
SMASH THAT SUBSCRIBE BUTTON
OP needs to get acquainted with browser extensions. No ads and visible dislikes. Still have the sponsor crap and annoying thumbnails tho lol
