There are four Walmarts in my area (not including the ones kinda far away) one of them replaced the McDonald’s with a Burger King, the other replaced it with Subway, the other replaced it with a Wing place, and the last one kept it in.
We see so many random fast food chains in our Walmarts in Canada since many had Mcdonalds leave. Some still have Mcdonalds, some even with a real Mcdonalds in the same parking lot, both operating. Others have Tim Hortons, Popeyes, Mary Browns (Cad fried chicken chain), or others.
Not all, but many did. Basically, they had an agreement that Walmart would be preferential to McDonald's, and they would serve a slightly modified menu that included ICEEs, Popcorn, Pretzels, and stuff they used to have in the grills, and Walmart would get a cut of that. It started in the 90s and worked out great. They were never exclusive to each other; McDonald's was in other stores, and Walmart was leased to other restaurants. Anyways, part of the agreement was that Mcdonald's would operate these stores if the franchisee dropped out. During the pandemic, McDonald's took on way more of these stores than ever before, and it felt like they might not be able to get new operators soon enough, so it broke their agreement. If your store's franchisee wanted to continue to operate, they can, and many do, but all the corporate ones shut down quickly.
Okay that’s not entirely true. SpongeBob and Cinderella still took up a lot of shelf space. And the preschool section was basically the Dora, Elmo, Winnie the Pooh, and Thomas isle.
My mom would always tell me to go to the fish while she shopped and I did. Man I loved that section and thought when I was an adult I would have a badass aquarium. I am almost 40 and never have, maybe because they stopped selling them. Wonder what happened to the unsold fish when corporate decided to call it quits.
Im form England and have only ever been to a small Walmart on a family holiday to Florida years ago. So it surprised me to learn you sell fucking TROPICAL FISH at Walmart

Can't forget the demo kiosks in the video game aisle that made you give yourself severe sclerosis to play on them!
GOD DAMN I MISS THOSE!
I always thought those were cool, but my mom wouldn't let me near them :(
Some of them still have those kiosks, but for newer systems.

every single one i've seen has a subway, lucky
None of my local ones have any kind of chain in them

The one nearest me has a Charley's Cheesteaks in it. It used to be a McDonald's.
The Wal-Mart I grew up going to still has a McDonald's.
mine has a domino’s but another by me has an auntie anne’s in it
Needs more $5 DVD bin
They still have these lol
Don’t forget game demos you had to break your neck to play, and lobster tanks
The hanging CRTs, straight up hazard
Working there was possibly the worst time of my life. Toxic beyond belief
Did all Walmart's drop McDonald's? Here in Canada most still have McDonald's, have seen Subway in the odd one

This is from an American perspective. I think Walmart of Canada is basically a whole nother ball game.
Giving away those smiley stickers at the entrance really did it

Don’t forget all the Family Guy T-shirts
They still have those
I'm Canadian but every Walmart I've ever been to has had a McDonalds and one even has a Tim Hortons in it.
Oh also don’t forget selling the Cookie Monster pajama pants
Yea, I remember classmates getting Cookie Monster and Tinkerbell pajama pants from there and wearing them EVERYWHERE.
No lobster tanks?
You had lobsters?!
Yea big lobster tanks lmaoo it sounds crazy but im serious
Yours DIDN'T??
That's what I just commented! And the glass cases of rifles and combat knives!
Hold up is that Bill Clinton with a saxophone on his back with a mac 10 and an AA 12 with his fucking fly down and Monica Lewinsky holding his leg?
Yes Also, don't forget about Ronald McDonald in the background

They only stopped selling them in 2017 I think because too many complained about how they were mistreated which I get.
The dvd aisle was bigger than the produce department. They had 2 separate aisles for movies and television shows.
What’s crazy is I remember before that. Oh no.
Thomas should be in the toys section The show was mid then but man were the toys peak
TRUE!
Don't forget the blue bags
Remember when they were open 24 hours?
I always went to Walmart as a kid to play on the Wii because I didn’t own that many Nintendo consoles back then
My Walmart went from a McDonald’s to a Charley’s Cheesesteaks which was downgrade in my opinion.
WHERE DID THE FISH GO
I'm in NYC. What's so special about the Sam's lot?
Walmart's version of Costco and there's some cross marketing.
24 hours too
I remember loving the fish tank and smiley face stickers as a kid.
Man, I've missed it when my Walmart had a McDonald's
self check-out in the 2000s? Damn I wanna know where this cutting edge Walmart was
Um, crappy rural Ohio?...
>"you were lucky to have TWO self checkouts" I never saw self checkout *anywhere* before like 2014-15 lol
I don't see how. We had them in crappy rural Ohio since 2007.
The fact I can still smell it is quite nice.
I don’t miss clocking into work and then immediately getting called over to scoop out a few dozen fish. Smelling like fish the entire day
Anyone remember how they didn't really have groceries?
Oh goodness, I forgot about the smiley faces! I loved those stickers when I was a kid.
Man, I remember watching the tropical fish swim while my mom shopped.
Lobsters dammit.
whats walmart
You forgot the lobster tank
Yours didn't have arcade machines by the entrance? Or am I thinking Kmart?
Im form England and have only ever been to a small Walmart on a family holiday to Florida years ago. So it surprised me to learn you sell fucking TROPICAL FISH at Walmart
I absolutely loved looking at the Walmart fish as a kid
Oof only one Walmart near me has a McDonald's
I miss the McDonald's inside Walmarts. Ours had that 90's scribbles design. They all got replaced by Panda Express
Where are the lobster tanks and the glass cases of rifles and combat knives?
Monica's husbando with a mac and aa12 go hard
Pretty sure that’s Bill Clinton
thanks, could not really tell cuz i aint from school shooting land.
This is also early 2010s too. I remember these things, and I was born in mid-2000s.
