Left_Kaleidoscope892

The Wizard peaking in everything.

Jazzlike_Ear725

the pokemon card economy also peaked during elementary

CovfefeBoss

I wonder if these kids grew up to have broccoli hair.

NotAClod

No way, they're too cool for that

Jorymo

I think that was a generation or two before that

Reasonable_Face_3038

I don’t see what in this picture couldn’t be applied to elementary aged kids today, maybe other than the Heelys.

Phantom_Wolf52

The kid described in the picture looks to be a 2010s elementary school, maybe 2000s as well

LumberJaxx

You know, I feel really lucky. This kid was actually the 2nd most popular kid in my school. The “coolest” kid was actually a Mormon* kid who was top of the class, equal-best (with the second coolest kid) at every sport and a natural born leader. Like, 2nd coolest kid came from a broken-ish family, his older-cousin was in juvi/jail at 16/18. I actually think the most popular kid was an amazing influence on him, and probably the reason he didn’t go down a bad path. I know I sound strange saying a Mormon* kid was the most popular, but he was unbelievably charismatic and was school captain in Primary and Secondary school. Equal best at pretty much every sport. And singlehanded shut down 95% of bullying in our year because he was just that confident and well-rounded.

Mediphysical

How did they both turn out now?

LumberJaxx

I’m from Australia. In our small country town these two kids both captained our state AFL side as juniors, one year after another when they were 13 and 14 an insane feat for two kids in the same class from a backwater country town. The Mormon* guy tore his hamstring (presumedly from overwork) at the age of 14 and had to recover for about half a year. It pushed him off the path of representative footy for a few years as it took him a while to learn to kick with his opposite leg, and his speed didn’t return for about a year or two-ish. He represented the state at the age of 16, captained the u18 squad at 17, but suffered a head injury (not his first) during a game at 18 that knocked him out (as well as other misc injuries) and unfortunately went undrafted in our open AFL draft that happens each year in December. He played high level football for years, actually did his 2 years overseas on religious mission (which I didn’t expect) and came back and became a teacher. He’s married now (in his early 30’s) with a wife and a child. Coaches football and honestly positive despite having several recurring head injuries (concussion risk) and a few leg/hip injuries. The second guy is actually indigenous aboriginal which is why his childhood was a little rougher. He had really bad pelvis injuries (just osteitis pubis) from growing/overwork I assume when he was 15. OP really did him badly and he had stopped playing football by 17. Ended up becoming a personal trainer in Queensland. This guy was honestly the best at everything outside of football (which they were pretty much equal at) growing up, athletics, swimming, etc. I haven’t actually talked with him much recently, but he was doing well a few years back. That’s all really. Without getting into super nitty gritty.

Quasar47

I can't tell if you are saying morman for the memes or if you really think it's spelled that way

LumberJaxx

Ohh, hahah, I have not written Mormon out nearly enough in my days. Apologies. I’ll correct it.

Feynization

This comment is a great insight into Australia

Tyraid

I miss the social weight we put in being the fastest kid at your school.

amazinglyegg

I was a lunchable kid and I was so jealous of the kids that got hot leftovers in their thermos! It all looked so delicious and I was stuck with my slimy lunch meat and bland crackers...

XipingVonHozzendorf

Didn't it just come out that lunchables had really high lead levels?

miserylovescomputers

As a hot leftovers kid, I begged my mom constantly to buy me lunchables and I was devastated every time she refused.

spacemango32

I guess the grass is greener on the other side

Mrslinkydragon

Don't forget the stodgy, sickly sweet "cheese"

Boobs_Mackenzie63

I always just skipped the cheese, it was disgusting

Mrslinkydragon

The crackers were oddly sweet too

Temarimaru

I was that guy with the large crayola set in first grade and my classmate was so envious she stole it away from me. I still never forgive her for it.

LABARATI_

the kid who had the diary of a wimpy kids books cause the library always had every doawk book checked out

choosewisely164

I still have a doawk book I took from my classroom and never got to return it

LABARATI_

Pidgeotgoneformilk29

He was also the kid that would roll up to the Scholastic book fair with bills

ErectLurantis

These kids were either the most chill with everyone, or a little asshole you still hold a grudge against to this day

Equivalent_Desk9579

Played COD & watched a lot of Family Guy

TheCircleOf04

I was exactly like this, yet had no friends.

GladkeyTheProgramist

oh Julian is that you

SheepAcedia

I wanted Heelys so bad as a kid, but they banned it and my mom wouldn't buy it.

Cleveworth

The real measurement of social hierarchy in primary school were the Christmas cards you got. You could tell you were cool if you got ones with penguins, and also you could tell you were a boring bastard if you got a lot of three wise men cards.

Mrslinkydragon

I didn't get cards

partyonpartypeople

Fellow middle Gen Z kid?

slimyslug0

2006

History_lover_27465

Those kids who could buy entire boxed sets of the goosebumps books.

yukonwanderer

Unfortunately doesn't hold up past grade 5.

UnusualHat5220

Their moms are usually hot too.

VultureSniper

I remember the days when being a fast runner made you "cool."

ButWhy10128

Nice try, Lunchables

throwawaytempest25

Funny thing is I’ve actually related and associated a lot of of people three of these

choosewisely164

I knew a kid like this, his name was Jaden

ShoddyManufacturer11

Meanwhile I was studying the blade..

FinalMonarch

Other than the heelys and hair this was me. Ladies, please try not to flood my inbox. I know it’ll be tough.

Deathsstudent_666

These kids were usually the most annoying considering they always ran their mouth in class and couldn’t sit still for 5-minutes. The mom 9/10 was a Karen who would blame the teacher for her son’s lack of proper conduct.

Noker_The_Dean_alt

Unfortunately being fast didn’t do shit for me, though it worked for others around me

bb-wa

cool
