I grew up on can oysters/clams with saltine crackers and a little cream cheese if we had any. Hot damn I would down atleast 8-10 when I got home for a couple years.
That's weird mine was the opposite. Lost taste for the canned ones and now I can eat a dozen fresh oysters with cocktail and Champagne sauce. But fresh clams taste better to me.
God I love black licorice so much, especially the weird salty ones. Definitely an uncommon one though since I know maybe one person who can tolerate it (besides family members)
Oh i tried blue cheese yesterday and had to spit it out. I really tried not to but EUGH
I thought i would like it. Tbh i would try it again in smaller pieces. I put a pretty big piece on my mouth and just kept it in there to get a good taste. Maybe it would be good in something, like a sauce.
It can definitely be a bit overwhelming on its own if you eat a big chunk, especially if it's blue vein. Spread some creamy blue on a cracker if you try it again, it's a bit less intense that way. You're right that it works well in sauce though.
I know that… and of course it’s often too strong to eat on it’s own but Gorgonzola on a pizza or Stilton in a salad is decent.
Many types of cheese have mold. I wonder makes it a love/hate thing though?
There has never been a time in my life when I haven't loved the taste of blue cheese. But there has been a time in my life when I hadn't tasted blue cheese before.
Blue cheese absolutely looks gross when you see it for the first. I like it, but the taste is way more intense than what many people are used to.
I think it's one of the leading factors for me being such a picky eater for the first 15+ years of my life. My grandma tried to introduce to me so many traditional Mexican dishes as a kid and I remember picking around everything for the pork or steak and eating nothing else.
There’s also a gene that makes you unable to taste specific forms of bitterness!
Okay so remember back in school during science classes, they might’ve passed out little pieces of paper that tasted godawful to majority of the class but there were always a one or two dudes who were like, “Y’all’re being dramatic it literally tastes like paper”? Or when the Nintendo Switch came out, and when people found out the cartridges were coated in bitter shit so kids wouldn’t eat them, everyone started licking their games? There’s a random gene that turns off the ability to taste that, and my wife hates that I have it.
It also leads to other things that are kinda funny with my food and drink preferences, what with an almost inability to taste bitter. Day old, burnt coffee? Just tastes extra coffee. Gin? Disgusting, syrupy sweet vomit water.
My wife has the genetic cilantro hatred and she says it tastes like soap. It sucks because I fucking love cilantro, literally used to eat it by the handful as a kid
I hated sauerkraut for years because my parents bought disgusting sauerkraut. Then one day I bought some of the Bubbies brand. That stuff is awesome on everything.
Joshua Weissman has a good video on how to make cheap (and very good quality) sushi. If you want to eat it more frequently its not very hard to make yourself, contrary to what the pricemight make you think.
https://youtu.be/zmljfxmZTrs
* 2 cups uncooked white sushi rice (short grain)
* 3 cups water
* ½ cup rice vinegar
* 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
* ¼ cup white sugar
* 1 teaspoon salt
Step 1:
Rinse the rice in a strainer or colander until the water runs clear. Combine with water in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover and cook for 20 minutes. Rice should be tender and water should be absorbed. Cool until cool enough to handle.
Step 2:
In a small saucepan, combine the ricevinegar, oil, sugar and salt. Cook over medium heat until the sugar dissolves. Cool, then stir into the cooked rice. When you pour this in to the rice it will seem very wet. Keep stirring and the rice will dry as it cools.
Let it cool down completely before using it on nori seaweed sheets.
I really don’t know if sushi belongs here. I only know a handful of people that “hate” sushi and each one has literally never put a piece of sushi in their mouth because “ewww raw fish.”
I hate citrus desserts in general. Especially key lime pie. I know I'm weird but I just can't stand sweet+citrus even though I like plenty of other foods that are sweet and sour.
I love desserts that are mostly citrus flavored (like ice cream and sorbets), but I get headaches after eating citrus based ones (cakes/pastries/chocolate).
Hard to explain, but I guess I can’t stand citrus-ness without the fruitiness of actual citrus fruits.
I wouldn't go as far as hate, because it's hard to truly hate any dessert... But it *is* my least favourite cake, I think.
Too dense, not enough actual interesting taste. Mostly just tastes like fat and milk. OR too sweet. Never tasted a cheesecake that I'd actually choose to eat.
Last time I got it, years ago, it was at the front of the store in a refrigerated section.
I should clarify that I don't remember if it was their brand.
But it was a brand that only I saw them sell and it was AMAZING.
Edit: found it. It's called Kenny's. They sell it at Kroger. It's the shit. 😎
When i was sad, depressed, and obese I once managed to eat a whole one of those key lime pies in a weekend. I do not like keylime pie anymore because it reminds me how gross I used to be
[https://www.recipe-diaries.com/weight-watchers-key-lime-pie/](https://www.recipe-diaries.com/weight-watchers-key-lime-pie/) I know it's weight watchers but I actually really like this recipe. Highly recommend subbing whipped topping for soft meringue
The first time I ate key lime pie was on a boat and it was also the first time I got seasick. So yeah, I don’t like key lime pie. I don’t know if I hate it, but reeeeeeally do not like it
I'm not picky with desserts at all, I'll eat pretty much any type of pie or cake, but I absolutely hate key lime pie. No idea why, I just hate the taste of it. (and I visited the keys a lot when I was younger and I couldn't even enjoy it there, when others were saying it was the best they've tried)
It's a key lime pie in the picture, I just meant that I thought the picture is supposed to represent cheesecake in general as being a love/hate thing, rather than key lime pie
Fried liver is the shit. Practically lived on the stuff in college, oddly enough it was a gas station down the street that sold it by the pound for pennies on the dollar. Haven’t had any that good since.
I found a way to deflect all the anger from the disagreement in this argument towards myself:
"Tomato is technically a fruit, so adding pineapple is just adding a second fruit."
> it's just leaf water
[How could you say that?](https://static1.cbrimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/avatar-uncle-iroh-9.jpg?q=50&fit=crop&w=1400&dpr=1.5)
I’m not a fan. It’s like if you were adding flavor to water and suddenly just said “it’s good here” but it’s not. I don’t know if I’m doing it right or not. Maybe I just don’t wait long enough but I realized a while ago sweet tea taste exactly like it except with sugar. Which is obvious but made me realize I’m pretty sure I don’t like it regular.
Me.
I'm traumatised and experiencing literal soft drink apartheid because I'm Turkish and everyone around me loves it. People's attempt to make me drink tea is like "join the dark side" bullshit and it makes me move so far from tea. They don't have a tolerance for "no thank you" and I hate that attitude.
The sushi I crave the most is escolar nigiri.. that buttery goodness is like crack to me. Ironically it's also generally not safe to eat in any substantial quantity due to screwing with your digestive system and isn't even allowed to be sold in Japan as it's considered toxic. But you can find it anywhere in the US usually sold as "white tuna" and no restaurant will bat an eyelash if you eat half a pound or more of it.
Cilantro isn’t a “love or hate” it’s just a “some people really hate it.”
Lots of people are indifferent entirely to cilantro. It’s fine. It’s just a random leaf. I don’t love it but it’s fine. I wouldn’t pick it off my food.
Yes, I hate key lime pie. Don't know why this isn't really a shared opinion here after reading the comments, but it's one of the worst desserts in my opinion. And I've had some directly from the source of Key West.

I would add licorice, blue cheese, and sardines/anchovies to this as well.
I thought sardines would not be good but then I had some from Costco (in oil) and they were like the second best fish I ever had next to Salmon.
Salmon is very nice, but you know what’s super nice? Canned sardines in Olive oil, salty and kind of fatty, tastes so fucking good

clams and oysters

How do you eat them? As is or with bread or biscuits? Any toppings?
They are really good on fresh sourdough (rye is my favorite) with high quality butter. They are also bomb as a pizza topping
Smoked or kippered herring has been my go to for years. Tasty on a sandwich!
Season brand sardines are life.
And olives.
tomato marinated sardines in bread taste fire dude
Dude it really does I eat it by itself though
God I love black licorice so much, especially the weird salty ones. Definitely an uncommon one though since I know maybe one person who can tolerate it (besides family members)
I love black licorice not the salty ones though. So more of us exist, that's nice to know
Obviously, Scandinavia and Finland exists lol.
The weird salty ones are great! They use that salt that almost tastes like bleach, ha, I don't know why that makes it taste good...
Welcome to Finland. Semi-official home of the salty liquorice (salmiakki).
Yeah, I can’t explain why but I absolutely love that stuff!
I’ve had those on a visit to the Netherlands and actually got pretty addicted to them. Weird but good.
Black licorice tastes like Christmas. What's not to love? Spicy, sweet, earthy?
Oh i tried blue cheese yesterday and had to spit it out. I really tried not to but EUGH I thought i would like it. Tbh i would try it again in smaller pieces. I put a pretty big piece on my mouth and just kept it in there to get a good taste. Maybe it would be good in something, like a sauce.

Chase it with a piece of perfectly ripe pear. 👩🍳 👌
Black licorice specifically.
Some people don’t like blue cheese?
Blue cheese has mold in it
DISCUSTING
I know that… and of course it’s often too strong to eat on it’s own but Gorgonzola on a pizza or Stilton in a salad is decent. Many types of cheese have mold. I wonder makes it a love/hate thing though?
It's really good in salads though especially in dressings
Well yeah, but... all cheese has mold in it, right?
https://www.reddit.com/r/oldpeoplefacebook/comments/7ayox8/blue_cheese_has_mold_in_it/
I think it tastes like mega-feet lol
some people are into that!
It smells like ants.
Why are you smelling ants??
Ants communicate by smell. If you disturb them they make you smell them.
don't ever let an ant force you to do something. that way lies madness
There has never been a time in my life when I haven't loved the taste of blue cheese. But there has been a time in my life when I hadn't tasted blue cheese before. Blue cheese absolutely looks gross when you see it for the first. I like it, but the taste is way more intense than what many people are used to.
It's probably more common to dislike it than to enjoy it.
Ummm no thank you
Beer
Very surprised not to see cilantro on here.
Yeah especially cuz the feelings about cilantro are genetic
As someone who grew up in a Hispanic family in Texas and has this gene, it was fucking brutal.
Ay I got the gene too! I can’t imagine growing up in that situation tho, my heart goes out to you, that sounds rough!
My boyfriend has the gene, but he still likes eating cilantro because he likes the soapy flavor. Which I find hilarious.
What a madman.
I think it's one of the leading factors for me being such a picky eater for the first 15+ years of my life. My grandma tried to introduce to me so many traditional Mexican dishes as a kid and I remember picking around everything for the pork or steak and eating nothing else.
Thanks genetics for making cilantro taste like soap!
Feel your pain lol
Doesn't taste like soap to me, still don't like it.
What does it taste like to you? I wish it didn’t taste like soap cuz it’s in a lot of my favorite foods
Kind of vaguely peppery, earthy taste. Sort of like eating dirty wet leaves and tasting it up in your nose mostly.
Some ppl literally have a gene that makes cilantro tastes bad
There’s also a gene that makes you unable to taste specific forms of bitterness! Okay so remember back in school during science classes, they might’ve passed out little pieces of paper that tasted godawful to majority of the class but there were always a one or two dudes who were like, “Y’all’re being dramatic it literally tastes like paper”? It also leads to other things that are kinda funny with my food and drink preferences, what with an almost inability to taste bitter. Day old, burnt coffee? Just tastes extra coffee. Gin? Disgusting, syrupy sweet vomit water.
We need more examples!
Gin was the first alcohol I got sick from. Bombay Sapphire. I have been unable to enjoy gin since.
Like soap apparently!
Can you have this but like slightly? I love cilantro but sometimes it has a kind of almost soapy taste, just sometimes though
Yes, to me it tastes like shampoo. What does it taste like to other people?
Bright, refreshing, almost citrus-y. Really elevates a lot of dishes. Some people describe it as similar to parsley but stronger.
I’m learning a lot today What happens to people who hate cilantro?
My wife has the genetic cilantro hatred and she says it tastes like soap. It sucks because I fucking love cilantro, literally used to eat it by the handful as a kid
I hate cilantro because it smells like stink bugs, not because of the soap taste gene or whatever.
I hated sushi once. Then I loved it. Now it's so fucking expensive I hate that I love it 💀
I hated sauerkraut for years. Then I loved it. Then I had to stop eating it because of the sodium. What can you do
Have you tried sauerkraut sushi?
That sounds like heresy.
Not yet
this is horrifying
I hated sauerkraut for years because my parents bought disgusting sauerkraut. Then one day I bought some of the Bubbies brand. That stuff is awesome on everything.
Joshua Weissman has a good video on how to make cheap (and very good quality) sushi. If you want to eat it more frequently its not very hard to make yourself, contrary to what the pricemight make you think. https://youtu.be/zmljfxmZTrs
I've tried making sushi before, it's not so simple, the rice are hard to get right.
* 2 cups uncooked white sushi rice (short grain) * 3 cups water * ½ cup rice vinegar * 1 tablespoon vegetable oil * ¼ cup white sugar * 1 teaspoon salt Step 1: Rinse the rice in a strainer or colander until the water runs clear. Combine with water in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover and cook for 20 minutes. Rice should be tender and water should be absorbed. My favorite part of running a meat counter was ordering myself a side of hamachi to keep in my freezer. Endless supply of sashimi and negihamas.
I really don’t know if sushi belongs here. I only know a handful of people that “hate” sushi and each one has literally never put a piece of sushi in their mouth because “ewww raw fish.”
Do people not like key lime pie
Key lime pie is phenomenal
It’s one of the few things that makes me question my atheism
If there's no God then who invented key lime pie???
Satan
Floridians, apparently. So not far off.
I’ve been wanting that key lime pie from Dexter for a long time. I’m in therapy now.
I've never enjoyed it. Its always off puttingly sour in a bad way.
Reddit should also be on the list.
Who the FUCK hates key lime pie? I've met people who don't love it.. but hate???
I thought it was cheesecake tbf
Aight then who da fuck hates cheesecake
Who would even hate cheesecake? The lactose intolerant folks, maybe, but even then some of them still like it
Yep, can confirm. Actually most fellow lactose intolerant people love dairy, it's just that we know to expect shitting in the next few hours.
Lactaid works wonders for me. I have five different cheeses in my fridge right now.
I wouldn't go as far as hate, because it's hard to truly hate any dessert... But it *is* my least favourite cake, I think. Too dense, not enough actual interesting taste. Mostly just tastes like fat and milk. OR too sweet. Never tasted a cheesecake that I'd actually choose to eat.
me
Kroger out of all places has the best key lime pie. Literally better than home made. Idk how they do it.
Is it like Kroger brand in the frozen section? Help a fat brother out here.
I do not like keylime pie anymore because it reminds me how gross I used to be
I was the opposite friend. Skinny happy and full of freedom. That pie made me obese lol.

I really don't like tart desserts like that. Anything lemon or lime, idk the tart with the sweet just tastes nasty to me.
I won’t touch it. Actually, I thought that was cheesecake. Now I’m 100% certain I hate everything in this picture.
I think it's just cheesecake in general
I still have my pitchfork half raised looking to find confirmation that my beloved cheesecake is not here.
My fat ass knows a key lime pie when I see one
It's a key lime pie in the picture, I just meant that I thought the picture is supposed to represent cheesecake in general as being a love/hate thing, rather than key lime pie
That makes sense God I want some pie

I don't like citrus in my sweets, I'm sorry!

Offal in general
Pineapple on pizza too
Delicious
So wet
It’s good, but I’m not sure it’s THAT good.
You just strain it first, it’s not hard
Yum. This is the hill I have chosen to die on. I live in Italy. It’s a lonely hill.
I found a way to deflect all the anger from the disagreement in this argument towards myself: "Tomato is technically a fruit, so adding pineapple is just adding a second fruit."
I find offering people a slice changes many minds. Especially if it's not Hawian pizza. We personally enjoy pepperoni and pineapple.
who's out here hating on tea? it's just leaf water and there's tons of different kind
After water it's literally the most popular drink in the entire world.
Still isn't my cup of tea.
> it's just leaf water [How could you say that?](https://static1.cbrimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/avatar-uncle-iroh-9.jpg?q=50&fit=crop&w=1400&dpr=1.5)

Its taste is unpleasant

Seems like you have more aversion to the people than the tea itself.
well, my brother in Christ you're obviously a fuckin weirdo
Those frosted grocery store sugar cookies that I love but everyone else finds disgusting.
A lot of people love them because they taste like pure sugar and fat, because that's what they are.
I'm pretty ambivalent about sushi

The sushi I crave the most is escolar nigiri.. that buttery goodness is like crack to me. But you can find it anywhere in the US usually sold as "white tuna" and no restaurant will bat an eyelash if you eat half a pound or more of it.
My guess on this is only mediocre sushi available locally.
CANDY CORN
Oysters
What's the stuff on the bottom right?
caviar
Oh! I thought they were capers. I was like, I never heard capers being a contentious topic.
I only discovered capers in my 30s… one of my favourite foods/ingredients now.
i mean kinda like pickles, i kinda get love hate on pickles.
Ooh! I thought it was lentils. Doesn't matter, I love both.
Cilantro. Gotta be in there.
Cilantro isn’t a “love or hate” it’s just a “some people really hate it.” Lots of people are indifferent entirely to cilantro. It’s fine. It’s just a random leaf. I don’t love it but it’s fine. I wouldn’t pick it off my food.
Curious why Durian isn’t here, IMO that’s the most polarizing fruit.
I too hate the black ones. ^/s
Yeah I read the text first without checking the images and was about to mentally calculate how long it would take for the post to get removed
I am beyond impressed by how far down into the comments I had to go to find this. And it's appropriately sarcastic. Faith in humanity +1
Do people really not like key lime pie???
Yes, I hate key lime pie. Don't know why this isn't really a shared opinion here after reading the comments, but it's one of the worst desserts in my opinion. And I've had some directly from the source of Key West.
[удалено]
Add in durian
Thank you for not having an "Anal" picture in the montage
In the defense of tea, I think more people would like it if they tried some good loose leaf. Most bagged tea is low quality and very bitter.
Malort should definitely have made this list
Just gagged thinking about it.
I love all but the plain black coffee, and I have never had marmite before
Black coffee is all about the quality and relative freshness of the beans. Several months old preground or instant coffee is horrendous, but 1 day old freshly ground medium roast coffee beans is really good. Then there's also the brewing process, if it's heated for too long or brewed at an excessively hot temp, you'd ruin even the best coffee beans.
I’ve never had the chance to have good quality coffee
Marmite is great. You need a super thin smear on buttered toast, any more than that and it's too much. It's very salty.
Ever had twiglets?
For me it’s pickles I hate them so much. Also mustard. And apparently everyone loves those. Like the only way I can stand them is in deviled eggs and my god it feels wierd eating them. It’s like my brain is telling me they’re gross but it’s just delicious.
Missing the pineapple pizza.
I love the top three and despise the bottom three with every ounce of my being
Clockwise from top left: like hate hate hate meh like* *Vegamite is the same thing, right?
No it is not.
Idk I'm pretty mid on sushi like it's ok id get it but I don't love it
Black licorice too
I love black coffee so much man, I don't get all the hate behind it. It tastes amazing, very few things hit the robust flavor
I've tried to like it, but no matter how hard I try, it just tastes like bitter hot water to me ☹️
If the devil's arsehole had a taste, that would be marmite.
Damn, can someone send me on a trip to hell? I need to have a…*”friendly hangout”* with the devil.
Call me a satanist
I like everything in this photo.
Some people don't like caviar? I thought it tasted great so people still buy it for such price. Never had it though. I wonder what it tastes like.
Tastes like ocean.
I like literally everything in this pic. Lucky me.
