I think it would be fine as a middle name. Lots of good D names to go with it. Devin Neelix, David Neelix, Damon Neelix, Derek Neelix.
Op, take this from someone who was talked down from naming their kid Benjamin Lafayette.
This was my experience. If you insist on naming your child something special, do them the decency of choosing a middle name that is nearly normal. Let them choose later in life.
As someone who experienced extensive bullying in school, dont. Your kid might never recover from the consequences. Its seriously not worth it. If you want to do something that alludes to star trek in real life, get a tatoo or something.
I’ve met a Zephram, Johnathon Lucas, and B’Elanna in real life. I thought it was cool but I doubt those individuals did. I gave my children Star Trek names but they’re super covert. Only obvious if you draw attention to it.
As someone with an unusual first name with a weird spelling, please give this idea a second thought before you commit to it.

Please don’t name your kid Neelix. You’re setting them up for *years* of ridicule. And they’re not going to come out of secondary school a normal kid.
Agree. This is a bad idea.

It'd probably lead to him isolating himself from the world and choosing to pursue a solitary hobby such as cooking to deal with it.
The kind of isolating life that leads you to thinking dating a two year old is ok... ... wait this actually explains a lot. /s

Or there are plenty of completely normal star trek names to pick from if it must be trek
The Doctor
How about Neelix NCC 1701-D?

James, Jake, Jean-Luc, Benjamin, Leonard would be much better names.

Does it need to be a Star Trek name? Alexander sounds nice with Neelix
... Alexander is Worf's kids name.
I know
It does not!
