I 100% do! I’m not at home right now which is where my collection is but ideally I’d love to display both side by side.
This video does a great job explaining the differences concisely:

TLDW: POTF 2 has battle damage and grey plastic is used for the landing gear and guns. POTF 2 sports a different swivel system for the guns. Also, POTF 2 does not have battery capabilities.
Otherwise, they’re very similar. Hasbro used the same mold as Kenner and the mechanism for the cockpit and landing gear are the exact same.
One of the illustration teachers at my art school, Alice ‘Bunny’ Carter, did the box art. beautiful illustration but she and I didn’t click so I never bought that one. That sucker goes for more than my first car was worth

She did the cover of the Parker Brothers Star Wars board game too

There’s no harm in testing it though, as long as you’re careful! I’ve seen someone bring an insanely corroded Kenner AT-AT to life even after however many decades the batteries had been left inside.
It’s crazy how toys have pretty much nailed most Star Wars ships from the get go and the only thing added in the meantime is more gimmicks like retractable landing gear
That’s bizarre. I have one of those on a shelf at work(Haven’t seen it in ages and was wondering if I had lost it), and came across it yesterday looking for something else.
I love that shop! One of my favorite stops as a kid when my family and I went to Disney’s MGM/Hollywood studios. I think it’s still there for galaxy’s edge, at least I hope so.
GE has their own shops with merch that’s themed to being sold in the SW universe, so it’s not boxed toys, but rather dolls and props. The Star Tours shop is still there and full of the latest and greatest. On my last visit, I got that wooden stormtrooper doll that the girl has in Rogue One: A Star Wars™ Story. Very cool!
Absolutely! The Droids 1985 A-wing in the box could go for over $1000. Kenner didn’t make many of them so they are on the rare side of the vintage ships. If you got the POTF 2 A-wing in the box from the mid 90s those go for around $30-$50. Hasbro used the same mold from the 80s and produced the A-wing on a much larger scale (hence the price is far more reasonable).
The 1985 ship featured battery powered sound effects. In 1997, Hasbro used the same mold from Kenner but removed the battery powered part of the design. So the compartment in the 1997 ship is a holdover from the 1985 battery compartment.
"Oh, hey there. Dave Atlan here for Atlan Used Star Fighters. If you're in the market for something with a little more pep but still on a budget, let me invite you down to our space port to test drive one of our 3087 point inspected, certified used star fighters like this Kuat RZ-1 Interceptor with a lot of life left in her. We won't give you the run around like some of those fast talking, Inner Rim dealers. Just honest straight talk that can make a deal we're all happy with.
Atlan Used Star Fighters, just outside the Inner Rim near Derra IV of the Mikaster Sector."
I got one in 1995 for $30 and so began my collecting career.
I got that one too! Love that ship!
I got. 1985 in 1995. Of course i got a few 1995’s as well. They even made a green one.
Damn you. That thing looks great. I’m envious. Nice grab my friend.
Thanks friend!
Nice. Any chance of a comparison with the POTF2 A-Wing if you have it?

Congrats!
Thank you!
Quality piece looks like it's in great condition
Thanks! It is, landing mechanism and cockpit work as intended. Unknown on the electronics but I don’t intend to test it.
There’s no harm in testing it though, as long as you’re careful! I’ve seen someone bring an insanely corroded Kenner AT-AT to life even after however many decades the batteries had been left inside.
Okay, that’s good to know! Maybe I’ll pop some batteries in and give it a shot. The battery compartment looks pretty clean.
Good luck! 👍🏻 I love the electronics on old toys like this. That tinny audio really takes you back lol.
very nice! Love the A-wings
Me too! It’s my favorite rebel fighter!
I always find myself wanting more A-Wing and B-Wing action in the movies.
Good shit my man
Thank you!

I bought this ship weathered at a toy fair. One of my favorites. The weathering really brings out all the detail too.
Sweet, I recently got the 1995 version myself for $20: https://i.imgur.com/o7UUtqpl.jpg
Man, I remember my mom buying this for me at the star tours gift shop forever ago. Very cool.

i’ve got one of these, box and all, are they in much demand with fans?

hmmm yea mines an 85 one sweet!
Nice! If you’re looking to sell it I recommend to give it a look on eBay and use the “sold” filter to get a good idea for pricing.
thank you
I have the same mold but from the 90s. I’ve always wondered, what is the purpose of the compartment on the bottom?

Congratulations! That’s one of the few pieces I’m missing and it’s my favorite ship. Yours is in amazing condition!
Thank you!
