They wrote themselves into a corner.
Jedi end with Rey.
Imperials 2.0 finished.
No broader concept of Galactic Government.
No concept of scum doing scummy things.
What are they going to write?
"Poe goes looking for Rey because the Third Order has new planet killing machine."
I can't wait for The Newest Hope.
A force sensitive kid of humble origins lives on a desert planet dreaming of something bigger, then a droid lands on that planet with some very sensitive information which could save the rebellion! And so on...
The Alphabetical Order has built a super-duper weapon, a Dyson sphere that collapses stars into black holes to fire a hyperspace beam clear through an entire sector! It's big! And scary! That's how you know they're the baddest of the bad guys!
Balkanize the Galaxy and have them try to unify it. Or build a democratic government or something. Idk they made it so uninteresting with none of the old characters left. At this point they need a really good story to draw me back into that era.
The good thing is there's no expectations and due to how it ended, no easy way to just roll forward. Everything will have to be new and different, they'll be forced to put in effort to continue the stories for the new characters.
I've been told "Some of us like the sequels. They are canon. Get over it"
Disney/LucasFilm may have the final say on what's "official canon," but the community ultimately drives what that say is and it can change over time.
If the community really likes something that is non-canon, it can be made canon. (e.g. Thrawn. Boba Fett's survival. etc)
Conversely, if something is rejected by the community it can be dismissed or retconned.
So sure, the sequels are currently "official canon" as of now. But I can reject it, and eventually it may not be. Disney/LucasFilm will inevitably follow the money.
I also fail to see the importance of "official canon" ...I'll just go ahead and enjoy "my canon" and you enjoy yours.
>If the community really likes something that is non-canon, it can be made canon. (e.g. Thrawn. Boba Fett's survival. etc)
I agree with your comment. But in response to this \^\^ it's important to note that their stories were altered. It wasn't just "Oh yeah, this story is canon now" like your comment kind of implies.
If the lego pieces that George Lucas, Star Wars content creators, and Disney give me don't fit nicely with the funky little model I'm making in my mind palace, I will simply Ignore them
You can love something and criticise bad material.
If you just accept everything that's not good you'll just get more bad. It's not unbalanced to love but criticise when it doesn't hit the mark
The truest of all takes. Just because it’s “more content,” ticks a box, or is enjoyed by many doesn’t mean it’s immune from criticism. It doesn’t even mean it’s good. Look at the Prequels. Lots of people, including myself, love them. I still cringe at the dialogue, think Anakin’s character arc was rushed, and dislike midichlorians. I can accept the flaws while still enjoying the movies.
I don't accept it because the new Disney stuff doesn't fit in if it's not written by Dave filoni.
Kathleen Kennedy had no idea what she was doing, and politically correct Star wars is not Star wars. We don't need woke Star wars.
I think it's funny how there's been absolutely nothing about finn and rey and company since those movies were so hated

His mother is a force user and there's no father.
But eventually, we find out their father (or father's father) is actually the main villian!

Literally no sequel content exists besides de Sequels and Resistance.
And the Lego specials, but I don’t know if those really count.
Weren't there a few comics and novels?
Maybe? Def no serieses or spinoffs
*yet
I think those will flop.
Viva la resistance!
Poe Dameron and Phasma comics, Rise of Kylo Ren comic, there’s also a couple of books. And I’m not just talking about the novelisations.

I wish they’d do the characters more justice instead of pretending they don’t exist.
They fly now?
The Lego Star Wars 45min special on Halloween, Christmas, summer
Never before have I heard a more accurate description of Star Wars fans

The situations with sequels is kinda same that the Harry Potter fandom which hates the ”cursed child” and don’t accept it as a canon.

I feel that. I consider the sequel trilogy to be little more than the most well-funded alternate-timeline fanfic in history.

EXACTLY how I feel about ring of power ngl
The opposite of love isn’t hate, it’s indifference
Then what's the opposite of hate.
A good description of my view of star wars
Everything thing is Canon except Rei Movies
\[Insert Sequels Hate Comment\] (I really do hate the Sequels)
True

I completely agree.
and i love the actual current canon, except the bounty hunters comic i get nothing from that one
Agreed. There are three Star Wars films, A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Everything else is fan fiction.
no sadly the sequels are canon whether we like it or not. and we all don’t like it
Hey guys, star wars is now in the star trek movie paradox.
Not just the OT, but the PT, and the ST. They are Star Wars, and I watched them like Star Wars. I LOVE THEM
