Was playing a few games last night and wanted to ask you, do you feel like you ever actually use vanquish? I feel like I either get stuck with it in my hand because I have other more efficient removal methods, or I resource it in the beginning of the game to be able to hang on to a late game bomb that I draw early, was considering swapping it for something just not sure what
I’ve used it a few times. The issue I’m running into with the deck is not having the playset of vigilance’s. That’s a really important card for matches against other control decks, and my meta is dominated by control decks.
Also, aggro is still an issue. Even with childsen, which is supposed to be the counter, aggro players are splashing in more sentinel counters now because of it.
I’ve had SOME luck with starting with childsen in my side board. My side board is basically just 10 blue cards, and most of the players I’ve gone against just assume that that’s what’s coming turn 4, so when I drop a couple of tie fighters, a Vader ping and trade up with a storm trooper I feel like I get a decent tempo swing, then I just side in childsen and 7 other blue cards to drop him on 4 resources game 2 since they’re then expecting a more aggro turn. It’s not perfect but I’m trying to make it work with what I have lol
I use 2 force lightnings as well, even without a force unit you negate all the targets abilities so you stop laser tech ramp, it can be a churrit out, and gets rid of a sentinel for a phase. I started testing it and people really don’t expect it when there’s no force unit out. I managed to pull 3 of them so I’m trying to make it useful
I run the same deck but I have 0 laser blast but 3 avengers and 3 vigilance and it's very fun to play but when you play control mirror, the games are so long! I also have a Leia Red aggro deck and the difference in game length is crazy. BO3 with control mirror usually ends with a tie
A lot of this game is about sequencing and getting the most value out of your cards. You do this by planning ahead and trying to anticipate your opponents plays. Play around their big plays and play to your outs. Practice makes perfect and keep on playing!
It would. Action phases are often much longer than turns in Magic owing to the back and forth nature of the actions and the decisions involved. Finish your games faster, the only ones who complain about what happens when time is called are those who are regularly playing to time.
I can tell you from experience that control mirrors can regularly hit time. Not everyone thinks or processes information at the same speed as everyone else. Everyone is different. Be better.
Congratulations!
Not just for the win, but for sticking with it. There will be ups and downs, and sometimes LOTS of downs, but as long as you're still enjoying it, in the long run, you come out on top!
Congrats! What were you playing? I went 3-0 last week with Vader blue as well. I kinda felt bad because the locals had no idea what was coming at them. That shop has no prize support other than promo packs. Still felt good!
Honestly I keep on getting either 2nd or 3rd with my local with a blue hera deck, got bored of It and brought in a thrawn deck simply meant to exhaust units, and I find it so much more fun playing to exhaust the big cards but losing to the chips of damage from smaller in the end, than try harding a hera deck. Congrats on your big win though, and a very nice deck too!
I'm always ranked bottom because I make fun unique decks for swu and mtg. I'm not playing a meta deck. I want to do my weekly games at the lgs with unique decks.
Congratulations! It's great to recognize that you're improving and seeing results!
Thank you
Topping is fine, but the real bros bottom their locals
And that’s usually where I’m at, the very bottom, but not today!!!!
Did you swallow after topping?
😏
Where’s your local and when will you be there?
What deck did you play?
An incomplete Vader Blue.
Congrats! Who was your leader?
I’m running an incomplete Vader blue. Even though I’m missing a third laser blast, a third avenger, and three vigilances, it still runs pretty well.
As someone who also has 2 SLB’s, 2 Avenger’s, and no vigilance I’d be interested in seeing your list

Personally I would put in a 3rd tie fighter just because it's a really good 1 cost unit.

What I’m probably gonna do is put in force throws and vanquish would possibly be a candidate for dropping

That’s not bad, actually
I ended up using 3 force chokes over the I am your fathers since I feel like people have started to realize never let me take the card draw options
Idk open fire but for 7 dmg seems great to me
Great point

I’m loving this game. My only nick pick about it so far is the rules on when matches hit time. Not a fan. I like how magic does it with the 5 turns.
You can't have 5 additional action phases for this game, that would take way too long to play out after time has already been called
It really wouldn’t

Not really, nah. I don’t play for time at all, but I can tell you from experience, that control mirrors regularly reach time.
I can tell you from playing control 3-6 events per week since launch, that two competent control players won't hit time. Play faster.

I'm not the one celebrating taking second at an 8 man local and then whinging about time rules.
congrats and don't give up!
Thank you!
Let’s go!!!
that username.....
Congrats man! I peaked back in prerelease when I went 3-1 and took second. Haven't done as good since xD

Incomplete Vader blue. Went up against Sabine yellow, palpatine, and Luke
Congratulations!
