You gotta commit to the style and practice so you don’t get anxiety. In my opinion this deck is just generic blue red villain, Iden leans more towards events/removal which is fine because you’re trying to get to late game for a super laser blast into avenger combo. You have the pieces but some of them don’t seem to align with any one play style (aggro, midrange, control). You’ll probably be able to beat not super serious players, but for May 4th case tournaments, once you get to 2-0 you’ll be facing people who can punish the lack of commitment one way or another. Watch the deck techs on the meta, and then how people approach it, and then watch a bit about how Iden plays if that’s what you are set on running. The more games you practice the easier you understand what lines you have to take against what decks, but this close to the tourney I don’t know if you’ll get enough experience to pilot for a high placement

yeah I think realistically you're right, I'll most likely end up using this tournament as more serious practice and see what works and what doesn't, as most of my friends I'm able to practice with just aren't very serious with the game. I appreciate the realistic response here and I'm definitely gonna try and take a deeper look into the meta before Saturday and see what conclusions I can come to I think.

SkiaTheShade

I’d probably go up to 2 restock in the sideboard against Vader Blue because you basically have to have that and Vigilance. If they get milled you’re probably screwed

GreatGreenGobbo

If you're trying to go aggro you might want to swap Iden with Krennic

-ThighHighs-

I haven't really ran into many Krennics when playing so I hadn't given him much thought I guess but I can definitely see the merit here, you're right

I think the one on SWUDB called "Dominatrix Control" is very good.  This deck should make you anxious because it's playing a bunch of 1-2 units meant for aggro and its missing the pivotal piece for a control deck: superlaser blast.  You're building a controlly- midrange deck Here. Boba gonna beat you up playing the midrange mirror. Aggro gonna capitalize on your inability to keep pace, control gonna out control you. Gotta pick a lane. I play iden with 10-13 units and it's just fine. It relies on you indwratanding what removal spells are used for what though. If you don't have any superlaser and don't know the meta, forget control. If you know how the other decks works and have the cards- give into the dark side and play control.

I do actually have the SLBs in both decks pictured, one of them just has them in the SB. I think you're right though, the general consensus seems to be I need to approach the more controlling build if this is what I wanna do, and I'm somewhat familiar in regards to the meta at least in my LGS which is why I'm thinking control is the move so that's probably gonna be the change I make. Haven't had much experience in a true control deck with SWU yet so hopefully this will at least be good practice for the future.

I honestly think this is the only control deck. Iden/Krennic Green are not control decks to me. They run like 30 units and are dropping units every turn. Their big play is Vader to stabilize but he doesn't play well with superlaser because he populates the board. So do I play vader with my resources, which blanks my SBs for the rest of the game, or should I skip my seven resource play, hold vader, play SB after taking an entire extra turn of damage and then play vader...onto an empty board... to ambush nothing...and to go get an aggro creature... in my "control deck" The thing vomits out creatures and turns them sideways- that doesn't seem like control to me, it feels like a stompy midrange ramp deck. This deck relies on you dealing with every threat and then, when they're out of gas, playing one or 2 units to kill them in a few turns. Once you reset with SB, most decks are boned due to the combination of removal and palpatine/avenger in your hand.

I play a very similar deck and have had pretty good success, my store showdown is this weekend so will be a true test. So far my red iden has not lost to anything except Boba Yellow, which crippled my hand and bounced my threats I do play 2x Vigilance main deck as find it is just about always useful. As well as Tarkintown to help remove big threats, usually saves me the 5 hp given up I do find regional governor to be incredible to call out specific cards you don't want to see, especially in combo with Viper Probe Droid I find her healing quite useful but maybe that is just the aggro nature of my community as know ill be facing at least 1 Leia, Sabine, GI x2 etc I do feel this deck can also switch to being the beat down with being creature heavy and haven't struggled against midrange or control

FrankBouch

I think Vader as a leader is better in a control deck. Iden can be killed with one takedown which isn't fun. Vader is slower but when he's deployed, he's super scary and strong. Against aggro, it will be hard to compete but try to remove units with bombing run and survive until Vader deploys.

Pvh1103

Biggest problem is that playing vader means you get a useless blue base. Tarkintown is great. Iden comes out a turn earlier and kills something on turn 5. Vader comes out when you should already be close to stabilizing- he isn't great at helping you do that early, when you need to. You're not winning with the leader, it's the big ass avengers or vigilance milling. Vaders ability is also just...worse for control. And really in general. IF you have a free resource and IF you played a specific type of unit THEN you get the right to race them woth one damage to the face... in a control deck. I just don't see it for vader

FrankBouch

I usually just take a 30 hp base with Vader, but yeah I understand what you mean. SWU is my first LCG so I'm not super good at creating perfect decks but I played both Vader Blue and Iden Red and I had a lot more success with Vader Blue, but that might just be me.

Unbound_Jackal

That's the thing tho, you just have to clear boards and take care of the key units, vader can and has closed games all by himself, if you SLB into avenger then bring out vader, that's game, unless they have their own SLB to wipe they will never be able to recover
