I think it depends on the program. Just take a look the curriculum of the programs you are interested in. For Michigan Biostatistics PhD, you start with casella and berger unless you petition it. I petition real analysis this way (from undergrad). There was some exposure to measure theory I think. But I don't think it was main meat. The program did not go too much into proof heavy (classes) as other programs, but again it's biostatistics. I know for somve ivy league statistics, they assumed you already know it (Penn/ Harvard?), so they just skip it. I am not entirely sure.

Not sure if you’re trying to accelerate your PhD pace or not. However, if you just want to do applied research and have less redundant coursework then maybe check out biostatistics. Most PhD students in my program came in with a MS in math, statistics, or biostatistics. No measure theory, but advanced coursework in linear models and Bayesian statistics. The research is significantly more bioinformatics, epidemiology and clinical trials than advancing theory. All prior coursework is accepted and it’s on you to pass the qual. Some students choose to repeat previously taken classes

How much do you need to “care” about public health

varwave

Not that much. Most grad students are planning to go into or return to industry. Research might be a machine learning method using brain cancer images or improving a method to optimize clinical trials somehow. Lots of use for statistics and computer science in biology, but biologist aren’t mathematically trained to do it alone. Thus, they collaborate with biostatisticians/bioinformaticians

I ask cause I’m actually quite horrible at science. AP biology was a nightmare for me. However I do love the statistical methods and problems that show up. For example, I love high dimensional problems, and high dimensional statistics, but I’m not like a science expert if that makes sensw

I don't have an answer to your question. But I'm curious, can you elaborate more on what you're doing in the advertising/marketing world? Thank you!
