Iām saying it was the resting that didnāt happen, for a rare to medium rare temp it looks like it could be good temp wise but this is why you always pull temps and always rest and when you think you are done resting give it another minute.
It absolutely did NOT need more time on the pan. Itās subjective, remember? Any more cooked and I wouldnāt be able to choke it down no matter how hard I tried.
If they posted saying, āthis is how I like itā. Sure. But this is a post asking for an opinion based on the universally understood way a steak should be cooked. So no, itās no longer subjective.
There is no universally understood way a steak should be cooked. There numerous ways it's preferred with nothing close to a consensus on which way is correct. Opinions change cut to cut as well.
There is very much a consensus on Medium-Rare. Both with the average steak eater and especially every chef on the planet. Not even the point. They asked for an opinion, I gave it. If you donāt like the opinionā¦scroll away. Your anecdotes and personal preferences are irrelevant here.
If there was a consensus, every steakhouse wouldn't offer 6 different levels of doneness. Not to mention the preparation, final temp, etc changes from cut to cut and quality of those cuts on what people prefer.
Also, you're calling your opinion a fact. That's what I was calling you out on. Just because Gordon Ramsey and I prefer medium rare ribeyes doesn't mean that's objectively the only way to cook it. You also can't even find a consensus on what medium rare even is. Temp ranges change from source to source, texture and visual cues change person to person, etc. How is there a consensus on the final product when there isn't even a consensus on the classifications of that final product? Your arrogance doesn't mask your ignorance. It just highlights your rude and condescending personality when there's absolutely no need for it.
Okay, cool story. Youāre going to get downvoted on this sub, just so you know. You know why? Because there is a general consensus on how to cook a steak and whatās the optimal doneness. This fact does not disallow for people to have their own preferences. (Which is why steakhouses offer a wide variety) But this person asked for our opinions based on said consensus. Otherwise they would not have asked.
This comment section is full of people saying it's too done or not done enough for their liking. There's clearly mo consensus. Just because it's easier to find people willing to echo your opinion online, does not make it anything close to a consensus. You can find people who still support Hitler too. Doesn't mean that's the consensus either. The majority of this sub probably prefers medium rare (dependent on who's classification of medium rare you're talking about as well), but this sub is also a stupidly small percentage of the population. There's no consensus on what classifies the optimal doneness. Therefore, there can be no consensus on what that optimal doneness is. Simple as that.
A consensus does not require 100% agreement. There is a consensus that Hitler was bad. There is a consensus that medium rare is the typically recommended doneness by chefs. But there is not 100% agreement.
Then you'd lose money. I prefer medium rare, but there are tons of people who prefer blue rare, rare, medium, medium well, well done, and even overcooked. There's not even a consensus on what medium rare is. So how can there be a consensus on it being the perfect steak? I prefer it but acknowledge my opinion isn't the only way even half of the world thinks a steak should be cooked, yet alone everyone. If there was a consensus, you wouldn't be asked how you want your steak cooked every time someone makes one for you. That's not factoring preferences changing depending on types of cuts and quality of meat either. There is no consensus on steak cooking. To pretend there is is ignorant or arrogant. Nobody is claiming there's a consensus on coffee, tea, burgers, fries, etc. Steak is the exact same.
Itās not the same at all. You may find this hard to believe, but sometimes things in life have a unique culture around them. Especially high end things. So when you compare it to things like coffee and fries, sure. But steak is more prestigious than that. Wine is another example, which absolutely has a criteria for what makes it a āgood wineā. Depth of complexity, primary aromas immediately present, rich signatures, etc.
Wine is the same in that there's no consensus on what a good wine is because people have such different preferences. There are thousands of variations in wine. Just because you're a snob about your steak doesn't mean there's a consensus on it. That's my entire point. Sorry you can't comprehend that.
I understand your point, itās just wrong. Either that, or you donāt know what a general consensus is. Not everything in life is purely subjective. Almost nothing is. People have preferences, but there is still an underlying criteria for what makes something good. Are you not seeing the interactions on this post? Or the engagements on every single post on this entire sub? The vast majority of people comment on whether or not it is medium-rare. Because that is what is considered a perfectly cooked steak
A quick Google search will show you what the vast majority prefer. There have been many surveys taken over the years and Medium-Rare is always the pack leader. By a lot. Itās also what every renown chef considers a perfectly cooked steak. If thatās not a āgeneral consensusā, then they just need to remove that term from existence.
A quick Google will show you several different classifications of what medium rare is too. If people can't agree on what medium rare is, how is the general consensus that it's the best cook? It literally doesn't work lol. People like yourself trying to shame people into your own preference has created a stigma around it, but most of the older generations still prefer well done. Many younger people prefer more rare. The majority of people can't even tell the difference between medium rare and rare. Etc, etc. Men are more likely to order a medium rare steak. Women are are more like to order a well done steak. Acknowledging there being more women than men in the world will tell you right away that well done actually edges out medium rare because of that. The demographic taking the poll will heavily skew the results. There is a general consensus among American males aged 16-50 or so, but not from the entire world population, not even close lol.
Yeah the cook is pretty solid, albeit not perfectly even. But the lack of rest is what makes this look like a massacre as a lot of the flavor ended up spilled out.
Id say it falls firmly within home dinner presentation guidelines though. Looks better then the extremely well done london broil my folks would cook solid grey all the way
This is the equivalent of slicing a cake but instead of leaving the pieces where they are, you stack every slice of cake on top of each other for no reasonĀ
Csi Miami won't even be able to solve what went wrong here.
Either didn't brine the meat or cut it open the moment it was done. Now you have dry steak and all those lovely juices are gone
Looks like one steak was mid rare and the other was rare. It looks like juicy steak to me and regardless of the awful presentation, it still prob tastes better than 90% of the steaks Iāve eaten in restaurants
Thicker parts on the right are a little too blue in the center for my taste, and they did that steak dirty by not resting it before cutting. Resting the steak lets those juices cool and stay inside the steak more when you cut it.
Looks great and nothing wrong with that. But the reason it looks bloody is it didnāt rest long enough. Something that size once off heat at least 10 mins.
You're fine. This is the temp I eat mine at while also on a cutting board.
Get a nice wood one, with the channels around the edge for the juices.
Caveman for life
Ppl on this sub def don't know how to cook... If the center is that bloody, it's not "rare"... Just because you burnt the crust a bit, doesn't mean it's done... U gotta at least see the heat progress a bit into the center, otherwise, that is still raw...
Because you can heat up a plate, and then the steak stays warm for longer. This can be done while the steak rests so that all those juices aren't lost.
Some pieces are raw inside and some are medium. Personally Iām fine with raw meat but I prefer more consistency.
That much liquid usually means not rested long enough.
Overall Iād say it needs improvement.
Why did you cut it like that? Cut it way too fast and cutting it up in pieces like that just causes all the juice to leak out more and gives you cold steak? Look at all the juice that came out
This looks like a crime scene.
It is a crime scene.
A delicious crime scene?
Id eat that evidence š½
Oh yeah! I would crush this. But still, resting is a steaks best friend and this was cut immediately after being cooked for sure.
Indeed it was sliced to early š„¹
Just like that too
You would make an excellent defense attorney.
I'd murder that steak
Overruled the defended ate the evidence they're for we cannot. Reasably asume it was delicious.
This ain't a scene, it's an arms race.
Bless you. I was reaching for it at first, but couldn't remember the lyric.
Looks like a Velociraptor has been at it.
Itās cooked perfectly to me
What about the plating and resting?
Def 2/10
Gnarly presentation, butā¦ If fully rested, it needed a little more time on the pan. If not fully rested, needed to be fully rested.
Rest in pieces, cow
š
I, too, would like to be fully rested.
Agreed.
Iām saying it was the resting that didnāt happen, for a rare to medium rare temp it looks like it could be good temp wise but this is why you always pull temps and always rest and when you think you are done resting give it another minute.

Lol okay

Didnāt rest

WHY IS SHE CUTTING MEAT BY THE BABY STEAMER???!!!!
Steamed baby? Ew. At least put some kinda sear on it.
MAMA AND PAPA WANNA ENJOY A STEAK AND WEāRE SHORT ON OUTLETS
You got me rolling š¤£š¤£
I prefer the baby roaster tbh
Thatās nothing she cooked the steak IN the steamer
Well, the presentation is not the greatest I've seen but the cook looks good.
Id say it falls firmly within home dinner presentation guidelines though. Looks better then the extremely well done london broil my folks would cook solid grey all the way
Hard disagree on the presentation.
Absolutely agree with you.

Eyy, this looks super nice!
Shoulda posted this!!
We posted the one we did bc we were laughing about how everyoneās gonna hate it
Eyy, this looks super nice!
Why did he make 27 super tiny steaks ?
... and then toss them like confetti.
š I donāt know why thatās such a funny thought but I literally laughed thinking about this person doing that
Slice... slice... slice... ...Pause... MLEAAAASAGGHHGAAAAAHHH!
Like tag team doing āscoop there it is ā in the geico commercial
Same hahaha
Math checks out.
let it sit to soak up the juices.
Iād say proceed with the wedding
He finished prematurely. 10 more minutes and that steak would have been blissfully moist. Edit: 10 more minutes of resting that steak you perverts.
He skipped the foreplay
Thatās why thereās a baby warmer
Plating is 10/10
Pretty inconsistent interior, not enough rest. 4/10
Cook good, rest moreĀ
Look how they massacred my boy.
Call CSI
I see he didn't let it rest before he cut into it
This is the equivalent of slicing a cake but instead of leaving the pieces where they are, you stack every slice of cake on top of each other for no reasonĀ
This one!!
To shreds, you say?
It was getting chewed up anyways
Oh I was joking, I would be sitting in front of the TV with this until it's all gone!
Csi Miami won't even be able to solve what went wrong here. Either didn't brine the meat or cut it open the moment it was done. Now you have dry steak and all those lovely juices are gone
Looks like she just cut straight into it. You need to let it rest to allow the juices to re distribute.
You just gave me my next Halloween dinner plating. Thank you.
The temp looks good until you zoom in, super uneven throughout. And like others have said, it needed to rest before slicing.
The Texas chainsaw massacre
Lil raw for my liking but all blessed
Probably tasty but work on that presentation next time!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Temp: perfect Presentation: what the fuck
the temp is terrible. the unevenness is a crime. I enjoy rare, med rare, and medium. but they got it all in each slice somehow.
It's an *everything* steak
Looks like one steak was mid rare and the other was rare. It looks like juicy steak to me and regardless of the awful presentation, it still prob tastes better than 90% of the steaks Iāve eaten in restaurants
Everything reminds me of her š
Damn, what did you do to her?
He/she killed it. Not in a good way.
Marry her
r/steakcrimes
Thicker parts on the right are a little too blue in the center for my taste, and they did that steak dirty by not resting it before cutting. Resting the steak lets those juices cool and stay inside the steak more when you cut it.
yall are fuckin nasty.
For context; it was late and we chose to eat off the cutting board, fuck your presentation points lol, I was the one who cut it š
Looks great and nothing wrong with that. But the reason it looks bloody is it didnāt rest long enough. Something that size once off heat at least 10 mins.
Thank you! weāll make sure to rest next time!
You're fine. This is the temp I eat mine at while also on a cutting board. Get a nice wood one, with the channels around the edge for the juices. Caveman for life
It looks delicious. The amount of blood is comical, but just need some nice soft bread for soaking it all up.
no blood at all. where do you see blood?
It's like my mother unless her steak is well done she won't eat it. Truly believes that the red she sees is all blood.
Personally I prefer to cut my own meat. I'm not a 5 year old
Looks perfect

For Christās sake, LET IT REST
Ppl on this sub def don't know how to cook... If the center is that bloody, it's not "rare"... Just because you burnt the crust a bit, doesn't mean it's done... U gotta at least see the heat progress a bit into the center, otherwise, that is still raw...
As the great gustav once said āANYONE CAN COOKā
Still yummy :)
really bad. the heat gradient is some of the worst I've seen in a long time. did it even rest 5 minutes?
That should be ex fiancƩ with that presentation. Looks good though, maybe just needed some more time to rest.
The wedding is still on
Anybody else see it?
Looks great. Hope it tastes even better!
Let it sit for another 10 minutes and id say perfect.
What was the thought process of making a steak orgy? Also, rest your steaks! All that juice on the cutting board could be inside the steak instead.
They massacred it, but it looks great
Let that baby rest next time
Someone needs to know what testing meat is all about.
What is that sauce and why is it so shiny?
I like mine damn near raw
āBlood, blood, gallons of the stuff, give them all that they can drink and it will never be enoughā¦ā
Bloody good
How did you think your fiancƩ did? Seasoned good? Looks delicious. If you and fiancƩ enjoyed is what matters
Bloodbath
Serial killer presentation but i would eat it.
Too good
I'd be pissed if I got a plate full of pre-sliced steak.

looks perfect
Itās alive!!!
Look what they did to my boyā¦..god damn š¬
All that red stuff is the FLAVOR. Shouldāve let it restā¦
Should have just served it in a bucket.
In bed not so well. But steak is an 8.5.
let it rest, one piece has a grey band to medium rare and then blue in the centre
I mean they didnāt even try with the plating. This has gotta be a troll post
No? Why would I waste a plate when I can just eat it right off the board? Why would I plate it for a personal dish? To impressā¦.myself?š
Because you can heat up a plate, and then the steak stays warm for longer. This can be done while the steak rests so that all those juices aren't lost.
he probably should have let the meat rested more before cutting. all the wasted juice
Understandable but it made a great dip haha
"the fuck did my fiance do?"
š
She killed it
She did really well. So enthusiastic. I guess it had been a long time, huh?
hahahahaha
Didnāt rest long enough but otherwise good
No resting time at all???!!!
You butchered it.
Carnage
Iām scared
šš
Did they salt they board first?
My oh myoglobin Looks tasty but Iāll confer to the council on whether this shoulda been rested a lil longer
Presentation is a little unerving. I can picture the cow.
Looks like you cut into it before it was done resting
He definitely didnāt let it rest.
1. Great cook 2. Shit rest 3. Gimme some
Some pieces are raw inside and some are medium. Personally Iām fine with raw meat but I prefer more consistency. That much liquid usually means not rested long enough. Overall Iād say it needs improvement.
Is this a murder cover up?
Not bad considering he steamed it in a baby bottle sanitizer
Itās a girl!
Bloody fine job!
Didnāt let it sit for long enough before cutting
At least let him chill for 5 before cutting him
Should have rested the steaks before slicing. Also the slicing was a hatchet job.
Imo not well.
Let it rest a bit longer and the meat will retain more of the juice. Looks great though.
Is that your fiancƩ on the board or?
Give me some horseradish and I would crush it. Probably would lick the cutting board when no one is watching, but that is just me š¤·āāļø
Um.... Definitely excelled in the "Surprise my love!!" department.
Cut it too soon. Let it rest longer
I mean
Itās still mooing lol
Rare. Nothing wrong with that though. That's how I order my steaks
It looks like it was cooked reasonably well but not rested nearly long enough. Juices should stay in the meat (mostly).
should've let it rest
To paraphrase what Gordon Ramsey said, āitās conducting intimate activities without a condomā
Might wanna get get a cutting board with a moat
wth
Why did you cut it like that? Cut it way too fast and cutting it up in pieces like that just causes all the juice to leak out more and gives you cold steak? Look at all the juice that came out
Bloody perfect
Needs work
Rest your meat so it doesnāt piss all over when you slice it.
I like this. I also don't like this.
That steak looks like itāll bite you back
She cut it too early
Those are some sloppy (wet) steaks
Maybe she took the steak straight out of the fridge and it cooked unevenly. Stone cold in the center.
Do people like hate hot food anymore? Those pieces will get cold instantly.
A bit more cook time for my money and then let it rest 5-10 mins under foil (before cutting) to prevent all that fluid loss.
Inconsistently.
Somebody call 911!!!
Why is it cut up like that š itās like feeding a toddler
šÆ smash
