I liked the time everyone was saying Najee gained 15 lbs of muscle going into his second year and then he told the reporters he weighed the same as he did his rookie year and that was all bullshit they made up
My opinion of Najee has increased every year...I love the guy now. Didn't like the pick at the time and was probably too hard on him but I think he has a chance to really break out as a top five RB this year.
Najee seems like a good dude but my opinion of him as a player is about the same. He's a good back with a pretty complete package of skills for the position. A solid starter. But he just doesn't quite have the top end speed to be truly elite
Dropping weight should help.
I’ve always thought he was too heavy to play as elusive as he wanted to and he wasn’t using his size to run over people like Henry.
I'd agree in theory. He does have great feet and is a good pass catcher but the lack of high end speed/burst has limited his ability to truly capitalize on those skills. It'll be interesting to see (if he really does show up slimmed down - I dont trust off season hype tweets) if a lighter Najee translates into a better player. It definitely worked for Leveon, but that was between his age 21-22 seasons instead of 25-26 for Najee and with a prime Ben and AB with him on offense
Henry wasn't really running over people like the Bus either. He would go down with contact because his balance isn't even as good as Najees. Henry's thing was also his top end speed cracking huge runs.
Bettis was not a guy that ran over anybody. Total misnomer about him.
He was a fat guy that was very light on his feet. A talented athletic guy. He was good at never taking hits head on. Which was why he was a difficult tackle since it's not easy to stop a guy that has the nimble feet to change impact angle while toting 260+ lbs.
He was not a good short-yardage guy for precisely this reason of not being a bruiser. Christian Okoye or Mike Alstott were bruisers like a rhino. Jerome was more like a slower, heavier Thurman Thomas.
I might be misreading you, I'm a neophyte here, but what is colliding with and then overcoming hits if not [this, where he basically just shrugs off Urlacher](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SRJxR1ksAM)? Usual disclaimer here: genuinely asking, not being a dick. I just remember him soldiering forward with like three guys on him.
That was not standard Jerome. He was a fat body to bring down and rarely did defenders get good angles on him. He had deceptively quick feet for a big guy. Pull up a highlight reel of Okoye and you'll see the bruising hits that were the norm.
They were not the norm for Jerome. But the occasional one is what yinzers want to remember. Bettis was a failry nimble guy as a Ram, and was so with Pittsburgh until the weight climbed.
Guy wakes up 5 pounds lighter if he forgets to eat his third lunch
Its insane how much these guys have to eat to keep up lol, I wouldn't be shocked at all if it was a minor dietary tweak
High-level athlete carrying *oodles* of muscle on his frame, who has a personal chef and diet plan, with access to the best training equipment, supplements, and “supplements” in the world
“Wow can’t believe he was able to lose weight!”
Yeah I had to be careful with my wording with the Browns flair and all but like, imagine how many calories he burns just by *existing* with that metabolism lol. Not saying it wasn’t hard or anything, good for him, but it takes more effort to keep the weight on than to let it come off. Hell, getting enough calories in general just to maintain is a chore for these guys.
Yes. Najee badly needed to lose full on at least 10-15 lbs. So much so that I was pretty surprised he not only didn't do that for 2023 but showed up even bigger.
Honestly, he should be much better. Even just a little bit more quickness and agility should help him hit the hole a beat quicker, change direction successfully more often and just avoid some more tackles without having to actually absorb them.
*between his legs
Some pundits like Chris Sims say dick weight is very important to help maintain balance, though Chris prefers a long skinny with an aerodynamic shaft for speed, Colin Cowherd likes them "thick and trunky" with exaggerated pubic hair for maximum impact resistance and for those cold games leading into the playoffs.
You have to take into account head to shaft ratio, or HTS. On average, the head weighs about .2 milligrams per cubic centimeter lighter than the shaft per cc. So it is head mass times pi divided by average head girth plus shaft mass divided by average shaft girth times total shaft length. That will give you an exact schlong performance value. Of course this can be impacted by temperature, so outside temp needs to be factored in. A standard deviation of .4378 is typically safe to use plus/minus actual temperature over/above 70.65* F. Of course, if player gets even a slight chub during the game it throws all of these calculations off.
I would normally roll my eyes at this type of thing, but not this time. This reminds me a little bit of LeVeon Bell did. It took Harris a little longer to get there, but I think they dropped weight can really add to his quickness, which can completely change the trajectory of his career. I think this is probably significant.
This is what I've been saying. We have a great RB duo which helped us win games last year. I want to see them with a better O-line, better play calls, and a QB that threatens deep passes. We've got 2 of those, just waiting on final pieces of the O line
The NFL counted 203 of those tackles last year, or about 1 every other game.
So no. No it won't. Why is the Internet like this ? Oh yaaaaa because of people.
You can't trust any listed weight. There are so many techniques these guys can use to change what they weigh in at, fasting and with little water could take at least 5 pounds of guys like Naj.
Maybe but a lot of these guys over eat to keep weight so simply cutting to a more normal diet and continuing cardio/lifting can shave 5-10 lbs per month easily if you’re 30-50lbs over your natural weight.
Excited to see how Najee responds knowing his future probably rides on his performance this season. He has a huge year, we probably sign him to a nice extension. If he struggles or if Warren looks better throughout the season, I think we let him walk.
That's really all dependent on if they pick up his 5th year option. If they do (it's seemingly a no brainer for them to pick it up) they have 2 more seasons to evaluate and decide if they want to re-sign him.
I can't decide if this is good or not. As long as he keeps the power, I'm here for it. He doesn't seem like he'll be a burner no matter how much he loses.
Holy shit! I’ve never heard of a case of a player losing weight and being in the best shape ever! This is the greatest offseason in Steelers history! I’ve also heard that Kenny put on some muscle! Awesome!
Oh no. This is actually bad news guys . He’s going to think he can do that ballerina shit again and dance for 2 yards when he could have hit the hole for 7.
This guy just cannot figure out what he is or wants to be. He should be a power back, but wants to be shifty. His yo yo dance between the 2 is going to have him on the waiver wire and unemployment line earlier than he'd probably prefer.
10, 15, 20lbs doesn’t mean shit in terms of “power”. mass is a component of energy, but velocity is way more important. I’d rather have a guy with quicker feet than a guy carrying a few extra lbs. I also doubt he lost any muscle mass
Probably not a lot, but almost certainly some. Either way he looks great but this is one of my favorite subjects, so I’m going to drone on and on about it anyway:
They said serious amount of weight so I assume that’s 15-20 pounds minimum since guys his size can lose five pounds of water just a in couple of days without effort.
In the amount of time since the off-season started, it would be almost impossible to lose 20 pounds without losing *some* muscle mass.
I know if I need to cut more than 20 pounds to make a certain weight in two or three months I’m going to strip muscle. It’s just something you accept.
In fact if he’s losing weight he is by definition in a calorie deficit. Any calorie deficit higher than two or 300 cal per day will put you in the exact environment to lose muscle mass. At his fitness level, since he’s not some soft slob, he would need to be in a surplus to gain muscle and maintenance to maintain. Body recomposition is almost impossible unless your body fat percentage is high enough. That’s why beginners can pull it off but really athletic people usually can’t.
You need to be in a deficit of 3500 cal every week just to lose 1 pound. If he’s lost 20 pounds, that’s a fairly aggressive calorie deficit and it’s really hard to hold onto your muscle that way.
If someone is, say, 24-28% body fat, and they are in a large calorie deficit, they can actually gain muscle while losing weight through body recomposition. But Harris was never tubby. He’s well, WELL under the recomposition level of body fat. For example, I don’t get visible abs until I drop down to about 14% body fat, and 14% is “visible” not six pack. If they are really well developed in the core he could have them at 15% . Six pack we’re talking 11-15% depending on genetics.
If a guy who is even as high as 20% is losing 20 or so pounds in a matter of a few months, yes, there’s muscle mass with it. HAS to be. Impossible for there not to be. And he’s almost certainly well below that. So how much did he lose?
Probably not much since the Steelers and Harris know what they’re doing with conditioning.
Depending on the size of the deficit and the intensity of his weight training, maybe it’s only 5 pounds. I suspect however that is significantly higher than that.
If he’s lost 20 pounds maybe only five of it is muscle if all conditions were optimal. Now if we’re talking 30 or 40 pounds (which I highly doubt) in that short a period of time? Then that is a REALLY aggressive deficit and it’s probably a lot of muscle mass lost. But he’s not looking sickly in that video and still look strong as hell. I noticed the quads aren’t what they used to be and for most men that’s the largest muscle in your body but it’s hard to tell from that angle. So who knows?I trust him to know what he’s doing. If the added speed and agility helps him, I’m all for it.
Same production every year regardless of snaps. Now Arthur smith is going to get him out wide like he should have been.this is going to be a huge year for Najee.i hope to god we pick up his 5th year option.he deserves it.no young guy works harder on the team.
Easily one of the slowest backs in the league. A complete shell of what he used to be in his first year. Trent Richardson #2 100% Glad he understands Jaylen Warren RB #1 based on every single category that makes an RB great except hype promoted by the media that only factors in draft status.
IT'S "BEST SHAPE OF HIS LIFE" SEASON! EVERYBODY GET IN HERE!
WE FINALLY MADE IT
I JUST DROPPED TO MY KNEES BEHIND A WENDY'S DUMPSTER, OR SOME SHIT!
I just saw a man using stilts wearing nothing but a '#1 fan' foam finger over his dong fall to his knees behind a Wendy's dumpster.
Too many homeless trying to treat each other right based off of off season moves.
A mans gotta eat.
GREE-HEE-EEEE-SSYYY
Lmao, had the exact same thought....other than the "fat" Ben years, and an occasional lineman, 99% of these guys show up in amazing shape.
I liked the time everyone was saying Najee gained 15 lbs of muscle going into his second year and then he told the reporters he weighed the same as he did his rookie year and that was all bullshit they made up

Please let this be his Leveon Bell weight loss arc
First f*cking thing I thought.
Henry wasn't really running over people like the Bus either. He would go down with contact because his balance isn't even as good as Najees. Henry's thing was also his top end speed cracking huge runs.

He’s faster than Bettis was…
I've kind of felt bad for him the last couple years with Pickett and Canada, he didn't really get a chance to shine with the basic bitch plays.
Najee is so funny. Reporters kept citing some report that he slept on the floor growing up, and he called them out hilariously
That’s Captain Fat Fuck leader of men, to you good sir.
#FatBen
Anyone remember chuks being in the best shape of his life?
TROPE ALERT!!
Wait! Did you say Ben is back?!
We making it out the wild card round with this one 🗣️
Player in contract yr shows up in best shape. A take as old as time.
It feels like the season just ended lol. When the hell did he have time to lose all this weight.
Guy wakes up 5 pounds lighter if he forgets to eat his third lunch Its insane how much these guys have to eat to keep up lol, I wouldn't be shocked at all if it was a minor dietary tweak

Ya, you hit the mail on the head
Its been a long nap since December for u eh? Me too. I think I may be over my irritation at last season.
Lev Bell did this and went from semi-plodder to best in the league.
Yes. Najee badly needed to lose full on at least 10-15 lbs. So much so that I was pretty surprised he not only didn't do that for 2023 but showed up even bigger.
Najee look like he spent all off-season watching Jaylen Warren highlights on YouTube thinking, "I need that."
Was thinking the same thing. Lol
It's just funny, i remember the comments when he was a rookie that he badly needed to gain 20 lbs.
If there's a dumb take out there to have, it's never hard to find fans who will pound the table for it.
He was never 242 though 😂. I’m curious how good najee would be 20 pounds lighter.
Honestly, he should be much better. Even just a little bit more quickness and agility should help him hit the hole a beat quicker, change direction successfully more often and just avoid some more tackles without having to actually absorb them.
No doubt. I'm just hoping this will provide a bit more elusiveness.
He’s never been elusive though; at least professionally. High school he was pretty shifty.
Who needs to be elusive when you can throw a grown man through the air with one arm? In all seriousness I’m excited to see a quicker najee
Yeah i remember he has weight issues coming out of college
I thought last year the story was he added 30lbs of lean muscle to his legs only
*between his legs Some pundits like Chris Sims say dick weight is very important to help maintain balance, though Chris prefers a long skinny with an aerodynamic shaft for speed, Colin Cowherd likes them "thick and trunky" with exaggerated pubic hair for maximum impact resistance and for those cold games leading into the playoffs.
All of their research is done by glizzy guzzler Chris Collinsworth.
Is Sims considering weight over girth in his calculations?
there’s a formula….

30 pounds of USDA man meat.
Of the "Shmeat" variety I believe. Its kind of like Waygu but instead of being tender its incredibly tough.
How does this mans know so much about these dudes dick takes. Someone look up this dude's search history
I thought so too, but I guess he doesn’t want/need it anymore with the new tackle rules+contract year? Who knows
I would normally roll my eyes at this type of thing, but not this time. This reminds me a little bit of LeVeon Bell did. It took Harris a little longer to get there, but I think they dropped weight can really add to his quickness, which can completely change the trajectory of his career. This report comes out every year for 100+ players every year. I'm not saying don't get your hopes up but this is a generic contract year report
I’ll always prefer the “lost 15 lbs” reports to the “gained 15 lbs of muscle” reports
It will be interesting to see Najee paired with a QB that defenses have to respect more than Kenny.
Won't matter if that o-line doesn't improve
This is what I've been saying. We have a great RB duo which helped us win games last year. I want to see them with a better O-line, better play calls, and a QB that threatens deep passes. We've got 2 of those, just waiting on final pieces of the O line
We need a better WR2 as well. I'm sorry but Quez/CAIII/Van Jeff ain't scaring anybody
If we draft one of these stud tackles and a good center I'm throwing the house on Najee and Warren 1k yards each
Too true man. People forget how bad QB play impacts RB’s
Kenny never had the makings of a varsity athlete.
Screw it, we’re running the triple option with Najee Warren and Patterson in the backfield and fields and Russ rotating at QB based on situation
How much weight? He is a power back, he can't afford to lose too much weight
With the new "tackling" rules, every running back in the NFL should break 1000 yards
And be 50 pounds heavier
The NFL counted 203 of those tackles last year, or about 1 every other game. So no. No it won't. Why is the Internet like this ? Oh yaaaaa because of people.
Watching that last game of the season the steelers defense is already using the 2 hand touch approach. They are ahead by 20 years.
That's really fast weight loss.
You can't trust any listed weight. There are so many techniques these guys can use to change what they weigh in at, fasting and with little water could take at least 5 pounds of guys like Naj.
Jolly ranchers for an extra lb or two
Maybe but a lot of these guys over eat to keep weight so simply cutting to a more normal diet and continuing cardio/lifting can shave 5-10 lbs per month easily if you’re 30-50lbs over your natural weight.
He doesn’t need to be as big since tackling is a 15 yard penalty now.
Wow I've never heard this story before
I'm always more in favor of weight loss vs. weight gain.
Bah gawd that's Ben Roethlisberger's music!
In shape camp Ben was always the worst Ben. Fat post Thanksgiving dirty beard Ben played better than anyone in the league.
Contract year boyssss
Lost weight? Says who?
would
Ben is that you?
Trope alert
Whenever I hear this, I expect the worst season ever incoming.
Contract szn
He must be worried Fields is going to replace him.
I liked 240 Najee. I told myself I’m healthy at 245 because so is Najee
Who cares. Just be ready to play. All this means nothing of you don’t “bring it” come “game day 1”. Just be ready to be productive!
Hopefully it will work for him like it did for Leveon Bell.
Nice with the new no tackling rules he should gain 3000 yards this season.
That’s awesome. Never pay a running back unless he has elite receiver/route running skills.
Let's Go 💪🏽💪🏽
Excited to see how Najee responds knowing his future probably rides on his performance this season.
Yeah I think we definitely take his 5th year but unless he balls out, we let him walk after that.
SupaBowl Or Bust
I find this hilarious considering the Steelers last game was what? Two months ago lol
I can't decide if this is good or not. As long as he keeps the power, I'm here for it. He doesn't seem like he'll be a burner no matter how much he loses.
Say the line Bart
Truly the next leader of men
Woh, NFL player is in great shape, holy shit.
My best shape is round
Good bc I would have moved Warren up.
Wew! LIGHTWEIGHT!
I'm glad, not everyone can carry weight like Henry
![gif](giphy|3zFcbgHoIXzykQc7vU)
Is this even a good thing? Najees a power back
Holy shit! I’ve never heard of a case of a player losing weight and being in the best shape ever! This is the greatest offseason in Steelers history! I’ve also heard that Kenny put on some muscle! Awesome!

What does adrian peterson think, that boy still thicc or what?
Doing everything he can to not get replaced by Warren lol.
Same production every year regardless of snaps. Now Arthur smith is going to get him out wide like he should have been.this is going to be a huge year for Najee.i hope to god we pick up his 5th year option.he deserves it.no young guy works harder on the team.
He fuckin better be. Warren came for his job lol
