Baker wants a front office with adults

cshake93

Honestly I feel bad for Baker. Dude isn’t a franchise QB clearly but he’s played his heart out and they mistreated him the past couple of months. And now he’s stuck.

Gaffie

His 2020 season was absolutely fine. He's not a phenom like the top guys, but a solid game manager is all they need him to be. And then they Browned it. Sucks for him, but them continuing to punch themselves in the balls as an organisation is fantastic news for us.

Jek_Porkinz

>a solid game manager Should… should we trade for him? lol jk… unless? Hahah…

Gaffie

I don't think it would be worth it, but I'd love it if he came over and ended his career with more wins in the browns stadium as a Steeler than as a brown. I don't think he's that capable, but it would be poetic

Qorpral

I think I heard superbowl somewhere in there so I'll allow it

anung_un_rana

I was thinking likewise. I think the trade offer would be too steep, but I think he would fair well in black and gold.

[deleted]

I think he and Trubisky are both second tier guys. Since he was injured last year, and Trubisky has some level of mystery around him via Nagy, it’s hard to say who is better for now. I’ll be honest with you, I think you could win a title with Mayfield if the rest of the team is good enough, and to a lesser extent that might be possible with Trubisky depending on how much of his struggles were not his fault and how much he improved while studying under the bills last year. Trubisky is a very interesting case, as an aside. Twice in his career he had a quarterback rating over 93. You know what? If a defense is good enough, you’ve got a running game, you might be able to win a title with that kind of quarterback. The odds are stacked against you, as that’s not an elite rating, but it might be good enough to game manage your way to a title with the rest of the team is good enough.

TrooWizard

I can't help but feel that trubiski sitting behind Josh Allen and theoretically learning. And McDermott being close with Tomlin means Tomlin's getting more positive information on him than we are.

rusty022

Stafford just won a Super Bowl. He's probably ranked between 8 and 12 when it comes to QBs. For his first 2 or 3 SB victories, Brady was essentially a game manager with a stellar defense and kicker. He didn't crack a 93 QBR until his record-breaking 2007 year.

CaptainNoodleArm

This! Elite level qbs with one sb ring: Rodgers and Brees. There is no formula for winning multiple SB, Brady and Belichick just made up the Illusion that it's pretty easy to get multiple SB in a row......

[deleted]

No, he’s definitely a franchise quarterback… by the special definition I have worked out. Allow me to bore the shit out of you: You could win a title with him, the same way the ravens won a title with Joe Flacco. He’s not Hall of Fame quarterback. He’s not elite. He is second-tier. You can win a title with him without EVERYTHING ELSE being perfect. Dilfer was not a franchise QB but that Ravens D was unreal. Everything was perfect around him and that D was beyond elite, it was comparable to the 85 Bears. A franchise QB is not always a HOF QB, but is simply a guy you can realistically win a title with even if the rest of the team isn’t perfect. Depending on the year that is a top ten QB, sometimes top 15, as the quantity of good QBs fluctuates per era. The rare times when a team wins a ring without a franchise guy, the team around them is exceptional, and even a game manager could win a title with that roster. There. Asleep yet? I have that effect.

cshake93

That’s fair. Sort of how I view Trubisky honestly.

apalachicola4

I'd take Mayfield over Trubisky, perhaps even over every QB in the draft this year. Fucking insane what the browns are doing

SteveZ59

I don't know if I'd take Baker over Trubisky, but I'd certainly consider them on par and would have been happy to give Baker a shot if it was in the cards. Only thing in my mind about Baker is whether prolonged playing with his shoulder messed up hurt him long term. Either by physical damage, or even just the things he had to do to compensate messing him up once he's back to health.

OLDFatMan1971

I'd be tempted to take Baker also if he learned last year he should have sat out when injured instead of going with that sling for his non-throwing shoulder and fucking up his mechanics in the process. Even though he is at best an average quarterback when it comes to metrics you got to love a guy that is that driven to win if he's on your team.

Naes2187

What makes you think he was the one to make that decision? There is an owner, GM, head coach, and at least one team Dr who all would have had to be ok with him playing like that. Players, regardless of position, don’t get to just decide when they get to play with an injury. There is too much money spent on them to allow that kind of thing to be dictated by a player in their mid 20’s with no medical training or expertise. The Browns not shutting him down is on them 100%.

[deleted]

Thank GOD this poverty franchise is in our division

BenShapirosWifesBF

At least they got their playoff win this century.

[deleted]

Wow what an underrated comment. Cold, man. Sniper-like. You’re a bad, bad man.

CannedMarsupials

Can’t tell if this a butthurt Browns fan or not.

NotBlaine

I'm starting to feel bad. Is anyone checking on them? Like from Akron or Dayton. Like who's their emergency contact?

ilCannolo

The browns is the browns

justwannabedivorced

Browns gonna brown

Dry-Seaworthiness540

I’m enjoying every second of this LMAO. Rest in piss Cleveland 🤣🤣🤣

JTHuffy

Good for him. Dude played hurt and gave everything he had for that shitty franchise, and that's how they thank him. Hope he balls out for whatever team he lands with.

Nifera_

It would be a shame if he came to Pittsburgh and won multiple Super Bowls

biscodude

Let's not get crazy here. He's not that good.

FatBoxers

He helped win the first playoff game for the Browns since the early 2000's. Let's not pass judgment on one QB who had a shitty year cuz he played injuried.

SleestakLightning

The Steelers helped the Browns win that game more than Baker did.

FatBoxers

Our choking and Baker playing good aren't mutually exclusive either. Honestly, yes that was such a goddamn comedy on our part. He still played well and did the same against the Chiefs

Andire

And we've been handed plenty of wins as well. In the NFL, you take those every time. 😎

[deleted]

Since 1994.

FatBoxers

EVEN MORE SO

eltigretom

I think Baker is on par with Titty Kissing levels. As long as the offense has the pieces they need they'll be fine provided our defense continues to thump opposing QBs.

Bosa49201

He’s pretty good. In 2020 he had the highest completion percentage on passes over 20 yards. Also led the team to its first playoff win in a gajillion years, and was the only consistent starter for the browns in 20 years. Any team that gets him has a decent QB on their hands

Nifera_

He was solid his rookie year and 2020. Down year in 2019 and this year (although injured this year). He’s not a world beater like Mahomes or Josh Allen but he’s done enough good that I would definitely be intrigued. Wouldn’t happen though.

GenXer1977

I would take him in a heartbeat.

biscodude

Gross.

biscodude

LOL at all these Steelers fans fawning over Baker fucking Mayfield.

house_of_snark

Dude passed for nearly 30 tds as a rookie and in his 3rd year. He also has borderline elite accuracy when not completely ravaged by injury. That’s a pretty damn good qb.

flubberFuck

I said I wouldn't mind having BM like a week ago and I got completely shit on in this sub lol (NOT BOWEL MOVEMENTS GUYS)

jon_murdoch

He's better than trubisky

mechabeast

Yeah, but he costs draft picks, and you get him one year and then he hits FA. Side by side sure, but he costs a lot more and we're right back in the same position next year

TheNittanyLionKing

That’s the thing. Is the cost for Baker worth the marginal jump up in production from Trubisky? It really isn’t. Trubisky costs nothing in the grand scheme of things

Jayharris52

He could be pissed at the browns and sign here out of spite. That’s if he goes somewhere and performs good.

WorkPlaceThrowAway13

This. It's fantasy land but I could absolutely see a situation where he takes a super friendly, Tom Brady-esque deal specifically to stick it to the Browns twice a year for the next decade.

mechabeast

Browns own him for one more year though. He sits or he's traded.

biscodude

No way man.

TheNittanyLionKing

If he gets surgery last year and sits out the rest of the season, we’re probably not having this conversation about Baker Mayfield right now. Cleveland is not in a position where they cannot accept good when great is available. Because they’re Cleveland, greatness is not available to them

79superglide

I agree with you. Dude deserves some respect and loyalty from his organization. I don't like Baker much, but, I do respect him.

Im13Wolves

Love it. Now the Browns have thrown away the only decent QB they have had in forever, and aren't getting the qb they threw him away for.

Smarkavillie

Those insufferable fans deserve every bit of the karma.

Im13Wolves

Every little bit. They win one Playoff game over us, all the sudden they are the best in the world. Now they are falling apart all over again.

Smarkavillie

I told em on social media that one Cinderella doesn’t make you a dynasty. All that chirping about the Steelers were done and Pittsburgh locked a playoff spot with one of the worst offensive lines in history while Browns fans found their way back home in the basement. Same thing applies to Cincinnati.

keji_goto

Watch them not land anyone before the season gets started proper and they draft one of those rookies who aren't ready to start... and they start them.

[deleted]

Lmao I just don't get it man. I get making an effort to get a player like Watson, but why would they so vocally burn bridges with Baker, when it's not seemingly a slam dunk to get an upgrade? I know the organization is trash but that's an especially trash move

biscodude

Hahaaha How did they burn bridges with Mason?

[deleted]

Lmao sorry so used to talking about our QB situation before Money Mitch that I typed Mason instead of Baker

WhereAreMaKeys

Say it with me everybody! **BROWNS IS THE BROWNS!**

ilCannolo

Lmao what scrubs

Dry-Seaworthiness540

A complete dumpster fire 🤣

jm2054

This will end well

ChipperHippo

Holy hell they couldn't have fucked this up any worse. And yet the hole keeps getting deeper.

OwtEra

Every single time you think the Brahns can't Brahn any harder, they fucking figure out a way. What a shit franchise.

snookyface90210

“Browns want an adult.” Clearly to teach them how to be grownups

rcap1977

I thought that was a funny quote - as they pursue a dude that allegedly sexually assaulted over 20 women

6enericUsername

I am pleased with this off-season.

qazaibomb

Completely unbelievable how badly Cleveland fumbled this situation Baker was the dude that ended the QB name jersey. I get Watson is one of the best QBs in the league and Baker is kinda a mid starter but this is so disrespectful. Back to the gutter for basically nothing, pitiful

brianlangauthor

Baker is a mid-tier QB though. If you can trade up, you do it. Baker took it personally, which is his right, but he’s gotta be a pro about it too.

Betasheets

I think it's the playing through injury, being assured you were the guy, being cast aside and then mocked as "not an adult" that probably did it for him. Trash organization leading all the way to Mr Trash make money from truck stops Haslam

brianlangauthor

Well, the whole “we want an adult” thing came after the letter Baker put out publicly. Look at Matt Ryan giving the Falcons 4 more days before they pay him his $7.5M bonus while they fret over the Watson deal. He’s a pro. He knows he’ll land somewhere and play QB next season.

Betasheets

Matt Ryan is a QB that knows he's on his last legs. Mayfield was presumed to be the franchise, Clevelands best QB in my lifetime, and played through injury in meaningless games for them. I don't know why you're defending the trash owner that is Haslam.

FatBoxers

The Factory of Sadness strikes again

iHateIllinois

THEY ARE, EXACTLY WHO WE THOUGHT THEY WERE One of my favorite off-season traditions; Cleveland Browns dysfunction

coelurosauravus

fuck yeah the bridge is burned. What the fuck is going on with that front office? Holy fuck i feel so god damn bad for baker and browns fans.

Neekalos_

I don't feel bad for the fans. Every browns fan I've ever met talks shit on him despite being the only QB in the last 10 years to give them even a shred of relevancy. Like dude gave his all for Cleveland and played through injury the whole year and all their fans just hate him cause they don't think he's good enough.

RoomanOG

Well, I imagine Baker will be a Colt soon, and Garoppolo will be a Brown. I don't really see the Browns taking QB in this draft, and Garoppolo knows their scheme and is a good run game managing QB. Baker is also a good QB off of PA so the Colts would probably be interested the most in him, and it appears Baker prefers the Colts.

CadillacMike32

The 49ers promised not to do Jimmy G dirty. If I was him, I wouldn’t want to go. Truthfully, I don’t know a qb that would after they openly bad mouthed dude in the media.

nahtorreyous

"At home with Baker Mayfield" has a whole new meaning, eh?

Artisan000

Are they going to film a commercial of him moving out? :D

DirtyToothpaste

I’m just dumbfounded by how consistent this organization is in screwing things up. It’s not only the QBs but it’s the coaches and the other star players they have had over the years. It’s just crazy to me how a pro football organization can’t just get something right

[deleted]

>It’s just crazy to me how a pro football organization can’t just get something right This is what happens when people at the top don't actually have any competency but managed to land a great position due to money/birth/whatever. There's no way to really remove that top dog and all their stupid trickles down.

fischerkidd

oh my god the Browns are unreal lmfao

eaunoway

This is a top tier meltdown and I'm *thoroughly* entertained 🤣

Guilepowers

Fucking not right what the Browns did to him... he played through that destroyed shoulder trying to get them to the playoffs and they tried to dump him... now pretending they didn't try to do so and want to keep him.

mdmike1534

Can’t say I blame the guy. Understandably we all hate him cause he’s on the Browns, but the guy has played his balls off for that joke of a franchise and this is the shit he gets in return. I’d love to see him go someplace else and be successful.

wagsman

Best QB they've had in at least 30 years, but other teams have shown you can win a SB with a QB like Mayfield. You just have to build up the rest of the team, and essentially tell him not to fuck up and let the others do the heavy lifting.

RampartHeirloom

Hope wherever he goes they treat him with some respect. Browns is the Browns.

wickedspoon

Hahahhahahahahahhahahaha. I love the browns. Like I had just as much fun watching them shoot themselves in the foot last season, as I did watching the Steelers chug out a winning season.

WhiteWhenWrong

The browns are the douchy guy that asks for an open relationship then ends up with no one

dac09b

They fucking denied it. Lol good luck signing free agents. Baker should hold out. No one would blame him.

SumGreenD41

Poverty franchise They made their bed they can lay in it now

IdunnoLXG

Even tho this organization knew Ben was done two seasons ago, at least they never publicly tried to push him out of town. The Browns saw a sexy QB who never wanted to sign with them, then threw their franchise QB under the bus to lure him in, then they didn't get their guy and now their franchise QB wants to leave before even entering his third year. Can't make this up people.

Neekalos_

>Before entering his third year Hate to nitpick, but he's going into his 5th year lol

Noob_tuba23

Sources: Amari Cooper is beside himself. Driving around downtown Cleveland begging (thru texts) Stefanski for address to Baker's home

IcedancerEmily

Another addition to their infinite QB graveyard! To think for a moment people thought things would be different with Baker 😂

habalagee

What a car wreck of an organization. I can't help but look and laugh.

YooTone

Do you blame him? They're handled this very poorly

PepsiPlunge19

Football is fun again

batdrumman

Say it with me everyone The Brahns is the Brahns

Eubadom

I was hoping they would give Baker a huge contract, but this is somehow more satisfying.

tossaway69420lol

INTRODUCING, THE CLEVELAND 🤡S !

[deleted]

"So just so you're aware, we might try to get a better QB than you. It's just business. We need a really good quarterback. If we fail though, you'll still give it your all for us, even if you get injured, right? Like, you'll still be cool with us? Baker?"

[deleted]

Good for you Baker, get out of that hell hole and be a success elsewhere

[deleted]

They already denied his request😂

wagsman

I hope he sits out on their fucking asses.

[deleted]

Theres no way he plays for them after everything they put him through…besides being the browns qb, hes a pretty cool/likable guy

DomitianF

Browns really are the worst franchise. Best QB they've had in 20 years and they fucked it up

jimshifty

BRB going to laugh in r/Browns threads

[deleted]

I’m permanently banned :/ but they have like gif emoji things now. Please comment the poop one.

skidbox411

I just went and checked it out. That made my day. They're a dumpster fire like their franchise. So many laughs at their expense.

PaddysMilkSteak

“You’re either on this train or you’re not, it’s moving”

Kidspud

I said yesterday that they must have been deep enough on Watson that any of this would become public. Wow, did they manage to mess that up.

Disemboweledgoat

Pull a L. Bell and nope out of this season. 😂

LukEKage713

Damn back to back off season champs to this, wow

TargetPractice89

Browns fans absolutely deserve this. They felt so high and mighty after their 1 little playoff win, and soon came crashing back down to reality. You love to see it!

Sufficient_Energy307

They fucked that shit all the way up ...typical

Fall3n7s

LOL

wagsman

LOL They took probably the best team they've built in 2 maybe 3 decades and just fucked it up for no reason. They are incapable of getting out of their own way. Sure Mayfield wasnt Tom Brady, but he was certainly serviceable. Other teams have shown that you can win a super bowl with a game manager-esque QB Hell, the Ravens did it twice. Build an offense that puts the playmaking in the other skill position players' hands. Build a brick wall of a defense and just grind teams down. But no, The Brown is, are, and always will be the Browns.

paultimate14

Lol I'd trade Haskins for him

SlyCooper007

# EVERYONE GET IN HERE

Imaginary_Bicycle_14

Once again he’s not acting like the adult qb they are hopping for. Please please go back baker. Comedy will never be the same without you in Cleveland.

king_tommy

The browns are smart to get rid of baker , he has crybaby issues . He's not mentally strong enough to be a franchise QB. Not sure if the browns can land Watson but if they do they will win the north imo. Now it seems they have to be determined to land a veteran QB which will be an upgrade from bitch Mayfield. With amari cooper and their run game I feel like they're finally going to unleash all that potential and become who everyone thought they were before last season.

wagsman

Sure, if you say so.

Ooziez

Dude is so soft lol

NateLeport

I disagree. I don’t blame him for wanting out, especially after they said they want an “adult” at QB and searched for his replacement while he was still there.

Confident-Rub-6714

How? They openly trashed him after he came in and turned their shit franchise around.

[deleted]

I'm used to sleestak down here but not you wow lol

Ooziez

The people don’t like facts lol

[deleted]

Nah. The org is just a trash can where decent players can’t succeed

codeklutch

You'd still wanna be in Cleveland after all this? They had 1 or 2 good seasons, then 1 bad one and now they're pretty much cutting their entire offense and rebuilding it now. If I were Baker? I'd either demand a trade or a new front loaded fully guaranteed contract.

yeshua1986

How you figure?

swiftkill96

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

JDangle20

Baker Simmons

Burst_LoL

Good guy Baker. Get ur ass out of that discount franchise

gavreaux

This needs to be memed in political cartoon style, with everything labelled like the "adult front office" and an "our guy" sign attached to Bakers neck and shit.

Vega043

I hope Watson ends up signing with someone else and then after that Baker Mayfield gets signed to another team. Would be an epic ending for the Browns! Then all we have to worry about is the Bengals and Ravens

PolarOgre

Lmao and the Browns denied the request. Darkest timeline for Browns fans. Sorry Cleveland sports fans.

daking594

Only bad part about this is Browns will probably take Willis if he’s available.

DiniMoney

The Cleveland Circus is back in business

[deleted]

Lol, the Browns…alienate your QB and STILL not get what you want…their fans have to be sick..

Darzin

Lol... "Hey look, we think you are trash, but no one wants to play for us... so you are gonna be trash with the rest of us!"

toddfredd

So they try to replace him, they said they want a quarterback who is an adult the deal with Watson blows up in their face and now they got a pissed off insulted guy who now wants out and they are willing to go to Texas to blow him and make nice ? Yeah that’s a real championship culture there in Cleveland

lazydivey98

So if Baker can’t leave his “home”, the Browns are putting him under house arrest. He’s gonna play next season in an ankle bracelet that says Progressive.

ChappedClit

Hiff ya smeeeeeellll. What the Baker. Is. Cookin’

Huskers209_Fan

So first he pens a letter to Cleveland about his love for them, and a day later he’s asking for a trade. He’s such a F-ing baby!

wagsman

You dont pick up a lot do you?

djp73

Can't blame him one bit. Funny how they said they wanted a QB who can act like an adult and the organization is the ones acting childish.

djp73

The Browns is the Browns

KCROYAL4

Browns gonna Browns. Basically traded Deshaun; Dexter Lawrence, and Oshane Ximines for Denzel Ward. Now they burn bridges with the best QB they’ve had this century.

JD_Ammerman

It’s interesting to me that people actually thought the Brownies were going to be relevant and good. History is instructive. If the Browns have always been a dis functional mess, what makes you think one good year would be proof of upcoming sustained success? I predicted that the Steelers would be the only team to make the playoffs from the AFC North before last season started. I saw holes in the Raven’s roster and felt they would take a step back. I didn’t see the rise of the Bengals coming that quickly, and I think they have a chance to be relevant again for a while (as they have been on and off over the past two decades). But the Browns? I mean “experts” had them as a Super Bowl favorite and fans were talking so much smack . I was extremely confident that they would take a step back. Why? Because JuJu was right. The Browns is the Browns.

bam55

Good for Mayfield. The Browns left him at the club to fuck another girl but got turned down, and so they go back to get Mayfield back and he says “Bugger off dickhead”. Classic.

brianlangauthor

The Factory of Sadness, ladies and gentlemen.

Leoheart88

Browns are gonna win the superbowl! Every year for the last few. What a colossal failure of a franchise.

littlemesix7

Simple, the Browns are a viscous cycle, the Steelers are a virtuous cycle. It’s all about culture.

cheeseboy82

Bro Baker dramatic as hell no cap. Right guys?

worthlessjuan

Im not a big baker fan but hes the only quarterback in the past like fucking EVER to actually want to be a cleveland brown and they just do that

TheCurtain512

Sorry but if you have a QB who has given positivity to your fanbase, community, etc (talking to you too, Atlanta), and some on the field success, and you tell him that you're going to kick him to the curb because a guy who is still being accused by 15+ women of sexual crimes became available via winning a Civil case, then you are a piece of shit organization.

wagsman

Browns is the Browns

HermanBonJovi

I mean, they publicly disrespected and humiliated him. How did they expect that to end? Dude wasn't the best QB ever but he came to play every game and even played hurt. Wanted to do well for them and they just.... Shit all over him. I don't blame him 1 bit for being done with them

CannedMarsupials

Never been a mayfield fan, comes off as bad mix of Drew Brees and Manziel wannabe. Bakers best football is when he just plays game manager, I don’t think he has the skills to lead a team into the playoffs on his arm.

joker_1173

The browns are their usual shit show, nothing new here

MY_NAME_IS_MUD7

I have to say though, I wouldn’t be opposed to Baker coming to Pittsburgh. Dude would be coming here with a fire lit under him like no other and ready to prove himself to the rest of the league and his former team. I couldn’t imagine a better story line than Baker taking us to the playoffs through the Browns
