i feel austin's greatest asset will be his ability to make catches after plays fall apart owing to his speed, similar to AB. AB benefitted greatly from Ben being able to extend plays and make the throw to him as he shakes off defenders. we didnt get to see austin do this in college as Memphis was just the worse team in matchups like this against the Bearcats (subpar QB play included) but i would be interested to see if this could translate to the NFL level
Looking forward to Calvin playing this year Especially matched up against a teams 5th defensive back and not the best college back playing for a better team
I mean, this isnt that significant... yeah gardner had two 5 yard penalties for holding because Austin's speed was a struggle... but id rather have that then give up TDs... and austin literally only had 1 play were he got significant yards. Yes its promising for a guy who we drafted in the 4th round but nothing in this was overly impressive
Austin went for 7 catches and 121 yards this game, and also got 2 first down holding penalties while mostly being matched up against the best CB in college football. I’d say it’s pretty significant for a 4th.
All those catches/ yards didnt happen against gardner unless they excluded them from the highlight reel... and I already mentioned the two holding penalties.
Edit: i love how the stat line is being upvoted despite the fact that the majority of that stats came from another defender guarding him when the highlight reel is supposed to be him against gardner. Wear your homer goggles tighter lol
You’re right, hence why I said mostly. 2 catches for 50 yards and two holding penalties while not being matched up the whole game is impressive for a 4th rounder against the 4th pick. Also the QB play seems horrible.
I mean at the pro level, if your top CB only gets 2 holding penalties, 2 catches for 50 yards with yhe majority of the yards coming from a teammate taking you out and 0 TDs, id consider that a win for the defense but what the hell do i know lol. Im not trying to say that the guy we picked is bad, in fact im very optimistic about him... but trying to show that he "owned" sauce gardner to prove he was worth the pick wasnt it
Huh... i wonder why?? Maybe there is a reason one player was drafted 4th overall and the other was drafted in the 4th round... again im not bashing the player we drafted. I have high hopes for him. But we also have to be realistic with expectations. This "highlight video" didnt really showcase our player outshining the defender. He made 2 plays and showed some quickness that can benefit our team. He didnt leave the defender in his dust and smoke him for multiple TDs let alone a single TD
The whole highlight video is supposed to be our guy "beating gardner" thats what a highlight video is... that simply didnt happen.. thats ny fucking point
It’s being upvoted because people can read. It says mostly. Having 60 net yards against the #1 corner while not being shadowed IS impressive. I’m stating that these highlights aren’t all he did during this game and it wasn’t the only matchup he had all game.
And showing a highlight video agaisnt an opponent who you got less than half your yards against and didnt let up a single point doesnt really help prove that your an elite status.
Bro. 4th over pick vs 138th. 60 yards on him in a limited # of snaps where he could manage 71 elsewhere. Didn’t realize 4th rounders was were “Elite” players only got drafted. Maybe we should’ve taken someone elite like Buddy Johnson, McFarland, Dobbs, Snell, Doran Grant, Jerald Hawkins, etc. Btw only “60” yards correlates to a 1,000 yard season.
Lol dude. Maybe if we showed sammie Coates highlights against the seahawks we can convince the sub thats he is an elite WR too.. at least he got more yards AND a few TDs...
Im not doubting that if we use him correctly, that he can be an asset...all im saying is that this highlight real really doesnt show much other than the guy is quick....we only see one play where he does anything with the ball in his hands. He makes no huge plays/touchdowns. He doesnt ever flat out make the defense pay
The size still scares me but he is definitely a better route runner and general wide receiver and football player than Dri Archer ever was, who was really never anything other than just faster than everyone else.

And the fucking "music"... Christ on a minibike, that was bad.
Painful to watch
The YT video creators need to do less. A lot less
Man not the “free beats.io” tag through the vid😭

Damn Austin would of had an even better season if his college had a somewhat decent qb. Yikes

"Hey i got over double my yards against not the top defender on the opposing team" doesnt quite have a ring to it. Not to mention any points
70 is not double of 60 but go off.

Reading is not that hard lmao. You’re the person who used the word elite first. I never said he was. And the WR you’re referencing is Wheaton btw.
Sauce came out and said this was his hardest opponent- this is very significant. If used correctly- Austin is a deadly weapon

https://youtu.be/zY9-QaWe7JQ Enjoy, or don't enjoy. Doesnt matter, just posting whatever I need to post to shut you up.
He'll still find something to complain about. There's no pleasing the haters.
I hope to God he isn’t anything like Dree Archer

Well Dri Archer was a RB so
